Opis:
The present work concerns analysis of the possibilities of synthesis of Ni-TiO2 composite coatings from electrolytes containing formate nickel complexes. A magnetic field was applied as an additional factor enabling modification of properties of the synthesized coatings through its influence on electrode processes. The presented data describes the effect of electrode potential, TiO2 concentration in the electrolyte as well as the value of the magnetic field induction vector on the deposition rate, composition, current efficiency, structure, surface states and morphology of synthesized coatings. The studies were preceded by thermodynamic analysis of the electrolyte. The obtained results indicated possibilities of synthesis of composites containing up to 0.97wt.% of TiO2. Depending on applied electrolysis conditions current efficiency amounted to from 61.2 to 75.1%.

Opis:
Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection is problematic in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). P. aeruginosa secretes a diversity of pigments, such as pyocyanin and pyoverdine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of complexes of nickel(II) ([Ni(iaa)2(H2O)2]·H2O (iaa = imidazole-4-acetate anion), [Ni(1-allim)6](NO3)2 (1-allim = 1-allylimidazole) and NiCl2 on pyocyanin and pyoverdine production by 23 strains of P. aeruginosa isolated from cystic fibrosis under growth conditions specific for the CF respiratory system. The antibacterial effects and biophysical properties of the tested substances were measured by spectrofluorometric techniques, as well as by laser interferometry, confocal and atomic force microscopy. The cytotoxic properties of all compounds were measured by Annexin/IP assay against A549 cells. All tested compounds have no effect on pyocyanin production and decrease the pyoverdine secretion in about 40% of tested P. aeruginosa strains at non-cytotoxic range of concentrations. Imidazole-4-acetate anion and 1-allylimidazole have good diffusion properties in the mature P. aeruginosa PAO1 biofilm. In conclusion, the tested nickel(II) complexes do not have clinical implications in P. aeruginosa eradication in cystic fibrosis. The diffusion properties of 1-allylimidazole and imidazole-4-acetate and their lack of effect on A549 cells suggest that they might be considered for chemical synthesis with other transition metals.

Opis:
The main interest now is the development of metallic or inorganic-organic compounds to prepare nanoparticle materials. The use of new compounds could be beneficial and open a new method for preparing nanomaterials to control the size, shape, and size of the nanocrystals. In this article, the thermal decomposition of [M2(o-tol)2(H2O)8]Cl4 (where o-tol is ortho-tolidine compound, M = Ni2+, Co2+, Cu2+) new precursor complex was discussed in solid-state conditions. The thermal decomposition route showed that the synthesized three complexes were easily decomposed into NiO, Co3O4 and CuO nanoparticles. This decomposition was performed at low temperatures (~600°C) in atmospheric air without using any expensive and toxic solvent or complicated equipment. The obtained product was identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). FT-IR, XRD and EDX analyses revealed that the NiO nanoparticles exhibit a face-centered-cubic lattice structure with a crystallite size of 9–12 nm. The formation of a highly pure spinel-type Co3O4 phase with cubic structure showed that the Co3O4 nanoparticles have a sphere-like morphology with an average size of 8–10 nm. The XRD patterns of the CuO confirmed that the monoclinic phase with the average diameter of the spherical nanoparticles was approximately 9–15 nm.

Opis:
Cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and oxidovanadium(IV) cations are coordination centers in many polycarboxylate complexes [1‒16]. A number of coordination compounds of transition metal ions with such ligands as polycarboxylate anions and heterocyclic organic ligands, e.g. 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) or 2,2’-bipyridine (bipy) have been examined for their biological properties [3‒16]. Their selected structures and physicochemical properties have been described in the first chapter. The polycarboxylate coordination compounds of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and oxidovanadium(IV) have interesting antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activities. The antioxidant properties of polycarboxylate complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and VO(IV) with 4-picoline, 1,10-phenanhroline and 2,2’-bipyridine have been investigated towards the superoxide anion radical using the nitro blue tetrazolium chloride (NBT) test and the cyclic voltammetry (CV). Their antibacterial and antifungal activities have been tested against bacteria and fungus strains that are antagonistic to the human. The determined biological properties of the oxydiacetate Co(II), Ni(II), VO(IV) complexes with bipy/phen, the thiodiacetate VO(IV) and the iminodiacetate Cu(II) complexes have been compared with these of L-ascorbic acid, which is chemical compounds commonly used as the reference antioxidant substance. Consequently, the comparison of antioxidant properties of selected cobalt( II), nickel(II), copper(II) and oxidovanadium(IV) polycarboxylate compounds is described in this work (Section 3, Tab. 1‒4). The kinetics of substitution reactions of selected copper(II) polycarboxylate complex compounds were monitored using the stopped-flow method in various reaction conditions (concentration of complex, temperature, solvent) (Rys. 5‒6) [5, 6]. The obtained results of the kinetic studies of the substitution reactions of [Cu(tda)]n with 2,2’-bipyridine in aqueous surfactants solvents: sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDSaq) and hexadecyl trimethyl- ammonium bromide (CTABaq) at 298.15 K (25 °C) are presented.
