    The article compares combined systems in naval applications. The object of the analysis is the combined gas turbine/steam turbine system which is compared to the combined marine low-speed Diesel engine/steam turbine system. The comparison refers to the additional power and efficiency increase resulting from the use of the heat in the exhaust gas leaving the piston engine or the gas turbine. In the analysis a number of types of gas turbines with different exhaust gas temperatures and two large-power low-speed piston engines have been taken into account. The comparison bases on the assumption about comparable power ranges of the main engine.

    This paper devoted to ship combustion engine diagnostics, presents short characteristics of experimental test techniques applicable to state assessment of piston and gas turbine engines presently being in use in Polish Navy. Some metrological and organizational aspects of realization of necessary diagnostic tests as well as measurements of control parameters of engines of low susceptibility to control, were highlighted. Such engines are installed a.o. on board American origin frigates of Oliver Hazard Perry type as well as Norwegian origin submarines of Kobben type which have been recently incorporated into Polish Navy (i.e.General Electric turbine engines, Detroit Diesel and Mercedes Benz piston engines), as well as older engines of Russian production (Zorya turbine engines, Zvezda piston engines). Applicability of particular diagnostic methods was also assessed from the point of view of their effectiveness in identifying engine failures in conditions of its operation in ship power plant. Recently realized tests have made it possible to conduct operation of all piston and turbine engines used on board Polish Navy ships in accordance with their current technical state. On the average 120-130 diagnostic expertises are yearly issued, and the carried-out tests cover main functional systems of engines together with their control and safety subsystems.

    In the process of operation of naval gas turbine is necessary to know their parameters depending on their load, resulting from the swimming speed of the ship. The above equation is the operating characteristics. Classify them into: static (rotating, full-load, collaboration engine power with the receiver), dynamic (starting, acceleration and deceleration) and the universal. The paper presents the results of preliminary tests concern develop rotating characteristics an object of investigations work in the stationary states. The object of investigations was the main propulsion engines frigate type Oliver Hazard Perry which is supplied with the Polish Navy. The propulsion system consists of two naval gas turbine LM2500, reduction gear, shaft line and adjustable screw propeller. Preliminary tests were carried out during the departure of the ship to sea in a marine power plant. The measurements recorded in the engine load range from the minimum to the nominal used to develop characteristics. During the test engines have been simultaneous and the balanced load. In order to allow comparison of operating characteristics of engines tested, as well as references to the various weather conditions, the results of measurements on which it was set, brought to so-called "regulated by weather conditions". For these characteristics, using statistical analysis, were determined dependence of approximation. The received relationships can be used on need of technical diagnostics as well as the more far investigations of considered object of investigations.

    The process of exploitations naval gas turbines bases on their characteristics, in this on characteristic of co-operation of engine with power receiver. In particular, if a controllable pitch propeller is it. The ship’s documentation does not often contain that kind of characteristic. There is need the study of method her determine therefore. It undertaking the test of determination the characteristic of co-operation of chosen naval gas turbines with power receiver, it was decided to execute in analytic way, using the technique of planning experiment which also allows for efficient and effective testing. Taking preliminary character of examinations into account they decided to carry them out on the laboratory position with the gas turbine engine GTD-350 and single-stage reduction gearing H-564 co-operating with Froude HWZ-3 water brake. In the article theoretical bases of planning experience, a manner of preliminary implementations of studies as well as their results were presented. It the investigation of adequacy for received results of investigations was conducted, in this statistical and technical analysis. The conclusions on basis of received results of investigations of adequacy were expressed.

    This article presents examples of results of energetic state parameters measurements of LM 2500 naval gas turbines operated by the Polish Navy. Currently in operation there are four LM 2500-type engines. In the near future, another LM 2500 engine will commence operations, along with a project 661M patrol ship. The energetic state parameters measurements covers the engine start-up process, their operation in idle mode and within the whole range of load variations, as well as stoppage of engine process. The article presents examples of characteristics specific to the above processes, determined based on the results of studies of this kind of engines. The results of these studies will be used to verify the modeling and simulation results of the internal energy processes occurring in this kind of engine.

    The article presents a possible method of detecting failures in the flow section and supply system of a naval gas turbine engine based on the exhaust gas temperature measured behind the gas generator. This temperature is a basic diagnostic parameter use for evaluating the technical state of the turbine engine in operation, and is monitored during engine start-ups, accelerations and decelerations of rotor units, and steady-load states. ABSTRACT The first part of the article is limited to the presentation of the results of diagnostic examination of a threeshaft engine with a separate power turbine, operating in steady-load states. The here presented diagnostic analyses and syntheses based on a simplified mathematical model of thermal and flow processes taking place in the combustion chamber, which was used for deriving the equation describing the average steadystate temperature of the exhaust gas flow at the outlet cross-section of the chamber.

    The second part of the article presents the results of operating diagnostic tests of a two- and three-shaft engine with a separate power turbine during the start-up and acceleration of the rotor units. Attention was paid to key importance of the correctness of operation of the automatic engine load control system, the input for which, among other signals, is the rate of increase of the exhaust gas flow temperature. The article presents sample damages of the engine flow section which resulted from disturbed functioning of this system. The unsteady operation of the compressor during engine acceleration was the source of excessive increase of the exhaust gas temperature behind the combustion chamber and partial burning of the turbine blade tips.

    The third part of the article presents a method for detecting failures of the automatic engine control system with the aid of an exhaust gas temperature setter, specially designed and machined for this purpose. It also presents a procedure of identifying the operating tolerances and determining the diagnostic tolerances for the exhaust gas temperature recorded in the naval turbine engine during the start-up and acceleration processes. The diagnostic tolerances were determined using the statistic inference, based on the hypothesis about the normal distribution of the starting exhaust gas temperature dispersion at the initial time of engine operation. The above hypothesis was verified using the non-parametric statistic test ÷2 for examining the consistency of the empirical distribution with the assumed normal distribution. As a result of the examination, satisfactory convergence of the compared distributions was obtained which made the basis for assuming the three-sigma limits of the diagnostic tolerance for the analysed engine control parameter.

    The article presents overall energy research conducted by the Polish Naval Academy for the purpose of operational diagnostics of the naval gas turbines operated by the Polish Navy. In this article are presented the purpose and methodology of research, identification of the object of research and test equipment used for research. The research results will be presented in another article Analysis operational parameters of the naval gas turbines. As far as the Polish Navy vessels are concerned, there were four types of the naval gas turbines operated in the years 1983–2003: DE 59, DR 76, DR 77 and LM 2500. Currently, since 2013, there are four LM 2500 engines in service, which drive ‘Oliver Hazard Perry’ type missile frigates. In the near term, an another LM 2500 engine along with a 661M type patrol boat will become operational. Within the framework of energy research, the engine starting process, running on idle and in the whole range of variation of load as well as the process of stopping the engines will be placed under systematic operational surveillance.
    W artykule przedstawiono całokształt badań energetycznych realizowanych przez Akademię Marynarki Wojennej na potrzeby diagnostyki eksploatacyjnej okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych eksploatowanych w Marynarce Wojennej RP. Przedstawiono cel i metodykę badań, identyfikację obiektu badań oraz aparaturę badawczą, wyniki będą zaprezentowane w kolejnym artykule Analiza parametrów eksploatacyjnych okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych. Na okrętach MW RP w latach 1983−2003 eksploatowane były cztery typy okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych: DE 59, DR 76, DR 77 i LM 2500. Obecnie, od 2013 roku, w bieżącej eksploatacji znajdują się cztery silniki typu LM 2500 występujące na fregatach rakietowych typu ‘Oliver Hazard Perry’. W najbliższej perspektywie czasowej do eksploatacji wejdzie kolejny silnik typu LM 2500 wraz z okrętem patrolowym projektu 661M. Systematycznym nadzorem eksploatacyjnym, w ramach badań energetycznych, objęty jest proces rozruchu silników, ich pracy na biegu jałowym oraz w całym zakresie zmienności obciążeń, jak również proces zatrzymania silników.

    This article is a continuation to the theme of the article Operational diagnostics synthesis of the naval gas turbines operated by the Polish Navy published in SJ of PNA No. 1/2017. This article presents examples of results of energy research carried out by the Polish Naval Academy in the years 1985–2016, for the purpose of operational diagnostics of this type of engine, operated by the Polish Navy. The research conducted since 1985 covered four types of naval gas turbines (DE 59, DR 76, DR 77 and LM 2500), with a total of 24 engines. Currently in operation there are four LM 2500 type engines. In the near future, another LM 2500 engine will commence operations, along with a project 661M patrol ship. The energy research covers the engine start-up process, their operation in idle mode and within the whole range of load variations, as well as the process of engine stopping. The article presents examples of characteristics specific to the above processes, determined based on the results of studies of individual types of engines. Currently ongoing studies allow for constructing strategies for naval gas turbines, operated in the Polish Navy, according to technical condition.
    Artykuł jest kontynuacją tematyki przedstawionej w artykule Operational diagnostics synthesis of the naval gas turbines operated by the Polish Navy opublikowanym w SJ of PNA No. 1/2017. Zaprezentowano w nim przykłady wyników badań energetycznych wykonywanych przez Akademię Marynarki Wojennej w latach 1985–2016 na potrzeby diagnostyki eksploatacyjnej tego typu silników użytkowanych w MW RP. Badaniami prowadzonymi od 1985 roku objęte były cztery typy okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych (DE 59, DR 76, DR 77 i LM 2500), o łącznej liczbie 24 sztuk. Obecnie w eksploatacji znajdują się cztery silniki typu LM 2500. W najbliższej perspektywie do eksploatacji wejdzie kolejny silnik typu LM 2500 wraz z okrętem patrolowym projektu 661M. W ramach badań energetycznych nadzorem eksploatacyjnym objęty jest proces rozruchu silników, ich praca na biegu jałowym oraz w całym zakresie zmienności obciążeń, a także proces zatrzymania silników. W artykule przedstawiono przykłady charakterystyk właściwych dla powyższych procesów wyznaczonych na podstawie wyników badań poszczególnych typów silników. Bieżące badania umożliwiają prowadzenie strategii eksploatacji okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych eksploatowanych w MW RP według stanu technicznego.

    In the operation of multi-engine propulsion systems, a very important issue for strength reasons is the uniformity of the drive engines' load. This is especially important when two or more engines are geared to a single shaft. There are many ways to implement the load uniformity of the operating engines. However, controlling their operation according to the torque is the best solution. In such cases engine torque characteristics are very important, which also applies to naval gas turbine engines. Torque characteristics allow for the determination of the engines' applications, analysis of performance and operating economy, and, what it involves, they help to establish the strategy and costs of the engines’ operation. In the process of marine gas turbine engine operation, the most important operating characteristic for the user is the characteristics of the engine's cooperation with the receiver of energy. This is particularly important when the power turbine is mated to a controllable pitch propeller (CPP). The article presents the torque characteristics of the selected gas turbine engine, which were determined using the experiment-planning theory, and the results of the experimental tests concerning the impact of changes in ambient condition parameters on the course of the above characteristics. The tests, whose object was the GTD-350 gas turbine engine, were conducted on a laboratory stand.
    Podczas eksploatacji wielosilnikowych układów napędowych bardzo ważnym zagadnieniem ze względów wytrzymałościowych jest równomierność obciążania silników napędowych. Jest to szczególnie ważne w przypadku, gdy występuje praca dwóch lub więcej silników na jedną linię wałów. Istnieje wiele sposobów realizacji równomierności obciążeń pracujących silników. Jednak najlepszym rozwiązaniem jest sterowanie ich pracą według momentu obrotowego. W takich przypadkach bardzo ważne są charakterystyki momentu obrotowego silnika, w tym również okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych. Pozwalają one na określenie ich zastosowań, analizę osiągów oraz ekonomiczności pracy, tym samym pozwalają na ustalenie strategii i kosztów ich eksploatacji. W procesie eksploatacji okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych, spośród charakterystyk eksploatacyjnych, najistotniejszą dla eksploatatora jest charakterystyka jego współpracy z odbiornikiem energii. W szczególności jeżeli jest nim śruba o skoku nastawnym. W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę momentu obrotowego wybranego turbinowego silnika spalinowego, wyznaczoną z wykorzystaniem teorii planowania doświadczeń oraz wyniki badań wpływu zmian parametrów stanu otoczenia na przebieg powyższej charakterystyki. Badania przeprowadzono na stanowisku laboratoryjnym z turbinowym silnikiem spalinowym GTD–350.

    The article presents the results of preliminary tests concerning the determination of operating characteristics of the examined engine in steady states. The study concerned main propulsion engines of an Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate operated by the Polish Navy. The propulsion system of that frigate consists of two LM2500 marine gas turbine engines, reduction gear, shaft line and a controllable pitch propeller (CPP). The tests were conducted in the ship's engine room when the ship was at sea. Operating characteristics were determined on the basis of the measurements recorded over the entire load range of the engine, from minimum to rated load. During the tests, the load of both engines of the ship was simultaneous and balanced. In order to facilitate the comparison of the operating characteristics of the tested engines, as well as to make a reference to various weather conditions, the data obtained was reduced to standard day conditions. For the aforementioned characteristics approximation relations were determined using statistical analysis. The relations obtained may be utilized in technical diagnostics and for further studies concerning the engines examined in the present research study.
    W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących opracowania charakterystyk obrotowych obiektu badań, w stanach pracy ustalonej. Obiektem badań były silniki napędu głównego fregaty typu Oliver Hazard Perry będącej na wyposażeniu Marynarki Wojennej RP. Układ napędowy składa się z dwóch okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych LM 2500, przekładni redukcyjnej, linii wału oraz śruby napędowej o skoku nastawnym. Badania przeprowadzono podczas wyjścia okrętu w morze, w warunkach siłowni okrętowej. Do opracowania charakterystyk wykorzystano wyniki pomiarów zarejestrowane w zakresie obciążeń silników od minimalnego do nominalnego. Podczas badań silniki zostały poddane jednoczesnemu i równomiernemu obciążeniu. W celu umożliwienia porównywania charakterystyk badanych silników, jak również odniesienia ich do różnych warunków atmosferycznych, wyniki pomiarów na podstawie których je wyznaczono, sprowadzono do tzw. unormowanych warunków atmosferycznych. Dla przedmiotowych charakterystyk dokonano wyznaczenia zależności aproksymacyjnych z wykorzystaniem analizy statystycznej. Otrzymane zależności mogą być wykorzystywane na potrzeby diagnostyki technicznej oraz dalszych badań rozpatrywanego obiektu badań.

    Opis:
    The method of determining the energetic balance of naval power unit with the naval gas turbine is presented in the essay. The laboratory station with the gas turbine was used in introductory researches. Elaborating the energetic balance of the engine allows to conduct an analyze of energetic processes which occur inside. Results of the analyses may be used due to improving the economy of the engine work what is equal with the increase of its effective efficiency. What is more, in respect of qualitative and quantitative changes of particular components of energetic balance it can be used as an indicator of change of the engine running-in or a change of its technical state.
    W referacie przedstawiono metodę wyznaczania bilansu energetycznego okrętowego układu napędowego z turbinowym silnikiem spalinowym. Do badań wstępnych wykorzystano stanowisko laboratoryjne z turbinowym silnikiem spalinowym. Opracowanie bilansu energetycznego silnika (układu napędowego) pozwala na analizę zachodzących w nim procesów energetycznych. Wyniki tych analiz mogą służyć do poprawienia ekonomiczności pracy silnika, a więc podwyższenia jego sprawności efektywnej tzw. karnotyzacja. Ponadto ze względu na ilościowe i jakościowe zmiany poszczególnych składników bilansu energetycznego, może on być przyjęty jako wskaźnik zmiany przebiegu docierania silnika lub zmiany jego stanu technicznego.

    W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań wstępnych dotyczących opracowania charakterystyk prędkościowych obiektu badań w stanach pracy ustalonej. Obiektem badań były silniki napędu głównego fregaty typu Oliver Hazard Perry będącej na wyposażeniu Marynarki Wojennej RP. Badania wstępne przeprowadzono podczas wyjścia okrętu w morze, w warunkach siłowni okrętowej. Podczas badań silniki zostały poddane jednoczesnemu i równomiernemu obciążeniu. W celu umożliwienia porównywania charakterystyk eksploatacyjnych badanych silników, jak również odniesienia ich do różnych warunków atmosferycznych wyniki pomiarów, na podstawie których je wyznaczono, zredukowano do tzw. warunków atmosfery wzorcowej. Dla przedmiotowych charakterystyk, z wykorzystaniem analizy statystycznej, dokonano wyznaczenia zależności aproksymacyjnych.
    The paper presents the results of preliminary studies on the development the operational characteristics an object of research work in the states agreed. The object of the research are the main propulsion engines frigate type Oliver Hazard Perry which is supplied with the Polish Navy. Preliminary tests were carried out during the departure of the ship to sea in a ship’s engine room. During the test engines have been simultaneous and the balanced load. In order to allow comparison of operational characteristics of engines tested, as well as references to the various weather conditions, the results of measurements on which it was set, brought to so regulated by weather conditions. For these characteristics, using statistical analysis, were determined dependence of approximation.
