Opis:
In this paper, a novel double-layer multiband circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna is proposed. The design employs the concept of slotted patch fed with proximity coupled feed having defected ground plane (DGS). The proposed antenna achieves multiple operating frequency bands including FB1 (11.15 GHz), FB2 (4.17 GHz), FB3 (4.87 GHz) and FB4 (1.98 GHz). The proposed antenna has obtained bandwidth of 12.98%, 4.7%, 4.69% and 5.39% at FB1, FB2, FB3 and FB4 bands, respectively. The proposed antenna also exhibits circular polarization in the frequency band FB4. The 3dB ARBW of the antenna is 9.23% at 11.2 GHz. Finally, a metallic cavity is used with the antenna to achieve a unidirectional radiation pattern. The designed antenna radiation characteristics are verified with the experimental results.

Opis:
In this paper, an effective medium ratio obeying, negative refractive index, compact meta-atom was designed, manufactured and tested for operation in a multiband microwave regime. The proposed meta-atom structure obeyed better effective medium ratio. The results of the measurement were verified by the commercially available Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Studio Suite 2014 simulator. The effective medium ratio obeying meta-atom displayed multiband response, in conjunction with negative refractive index property over a certain frequency band in the microwave frequency span. Furthermore, a few parametric analyses were completed with the meta-atom, and the effective medium parameters were investigated. The sizes and complex scattering constitutive parameters of the proposed negative refractive index, compact meta-atom are applicable for multiband applications in microwave regime.

Opis:
Heart rate is constantly changing under the influence of many control signals, as manifested by heart rate variability (HRV). HRV is a nonstationary, irregularly sampled signal, the spectrum of which reveals distinct bands of high, low, very low and ultra-low frequencies (HF, LF, VLF, ULF). VLF and ULF components are the least understood, and their analysis requires HRV records lasting many hours. Moreover, there are still no well-established methods for the reliable extraction of these components. The aim of this work was to select, implement and compare methods which can solve this problem. The performance of multiband filtering (MBF), empirical mode decomposition and the short-time Fourier transform was tested, using synthetic HRV as the ground truth for methods evaluation as well as real data of three patients selected from 25 polysomnographic records with a clear HF component in their spectrograms. The study provided new insights into the components of long-term HRV, including the character of its amplitude and frequency modulation obtained with the Hilbert transform. In addition, the reliability of the extracted HF, LF, VLF and ULF waveforms was demonstrated, and MBF turned out to be the most accurate method, though the signal is strongly nonstationary. The possibility of isolating such waveforms is of great importance both in physiology and pathophysiology, as well as in the automation of medical diagnostics based on HRV.

Opis:
In this article, a simple design of rectangular microstrip feed planar antenna with wide arcs and square shape slot is proposed for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID),Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and C/X-band wireless communications. The prototype of the antenna has been fabricated 1.0 mm thick ceramic filled bioplastic substrate by using optimal dimension obtained from design/simulations and antenna performances are experimentally tested. The experimental results confirm the impedance bandwidths for S11 ≤ −10 dB are of 712 MHz (0.355-1.067 GHz), 1.38 GHz (2.92-4.3 GHz) and 2.46 GHz (6.55-9.01 GHz) for 0.788, 3.34 and 8.01 GHz band respectively. The proposed antenna shows almost steady and symmetrical radiation patterns for all three bands with the maximum gains of 1.37, 2.8 and 3.56 dBi respectively. Based on the antenna performances, it can successfully cover the frequency band requirement for RFID, WiMAX and C/X-band applications.

We study electronic structure of multiband d-p model describing RuO₄ layer such as realized in Sr₂RuO₄. The model takes into account nearest-neighbor anisotropic ruthenium-oxygen and oxygen-oxygen hoppings, intra-atomic Coulomb interaction, Hund's exchange and in addition spin-orbit coupling on ruthenium. The RuO₄ is universally considered as a pure $t_{2g}$ system (with $e_{g}$ orbitals empty) due to sizable gap between $t_{2g}$ and $e_{g}$ levels. We show that ruthenium $e_{g}$ orbitals are in fact occupied, similarly like showed earlier for CoO₂ layers.

Opis:
We present optical and electrical measurements made on GaN/AlGaN photodetector structure capable to detect three UV ranges, tuned by external voltage. The highest band at energy of about 3.85 eV is nearly independent of bias applied to the Schottky contact. Photosensitivity of the second band at about 3.65 eV changes strongly with the bias. Signal in this range increases about 20 times when the bias changes from 0 V to -4 V. Photosensitivity of the third band (3.4 eV) appears for strong reverse bias (-3 V). Characteristics of the detector are in qualitative agreement with numerical model, however deep centers present in the AlGaN layers cause quantitative discrepancies. The concentration of defects of the order of 10$\text{}^{16}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$ was estimated from current transients.

Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) doped with magnetic impurities have been a focus of continuous research for a couple of decades. A significant effort has been devoted to studies of magnetic polarons (MP) in these nanostructures. These collective states arise through exchange interaction between a carrier confined in a QD and localized spins of the magnetic impurities (typically: Mn). Our theoretical description of various MP properties in self-assembled QDs is discussed. We present a self-consistent, temperature-dependent approach to MPs formed by a valence band hole. The Luttinger-Kohn k· p Hamiltonian is used to account for the important effects of spin-orbit interaction.

Opis:
In this paper a novel configuration of broadband multi slot antenna for C/X bands is presented and analyzed. By cutting two diamond slots in the middle of the rectangular patch and three triangular slots in the right side of the patch, resonances can be created. Microstrip feed line is used in the down side region of the patch. Antenna characteristics were simulated using a finite element method (HFSS). According to simulations, the proposed multiple slot antennas can provide two separated impedance bandwidths of 970 MHz (about 11.96% centred at 8.11 GHz band) and 890 MHz (about 9.76% centred at 9.42 GHz band) and stable radiation patterns, promising for satellite systems.

On the example of TiO₄ layer (such as realized in Sr₂TiO₄) we study electronic structure of multiband d-p models describing transition metal perovskites. As suggested by experiment, the studied system is predicted to be a robust nonmagnetic insulator. A realistic treatment of electronic structure requires one to introduce non-zero Coulomb local interactions at 2p oxygen orbitals. However, up till now majority of papers based upon multiband models made an approximation of neglecting such interactions. We show that this simplification does not lead to serious problems in predictions of the electronic structure provided the Coulomb interactions at titanium ions and charge transfer gap are suitably renormalized (so they become entirely different with respect to the true microscopic d-p model parameters).
