Opis:
This paper describes the mixture design of lightweight concrete. The authors proposed lightweight concrete based solely on expanded clay aggregate. Commercially available expanded clay granules (used as coarse aggregate) were supplemented with crushed expanded clay granules (which played the role of fine aggregate). The created mixes were differentiated by particle size distribution of lightweight aggregate and the amount of used cement. Properties of both fresh concrete mixes and hardened composites were of interest. The tested properties were as follows: consistency, density, compression strength, splitting tensile strength, dynamic modulus of elasticity, flexural strength, shear strength and abrasion resistance. Experimental results have shown some satisfactory mechanical characteristics of concretes in question.
Artykuł opisuje projektowanie betonu lekkiego. Autorzy zaproponowali projekt betonu lekkiego wykonanego wyłącznie na bazie kruszywa keramzytowego. Dostępne na rynku kruszywo keramzytowe (użyte jako kruszywo grube) uzupełniono pokruszonym kruszywem tego samego rodzaju (pełniącego rolę kruszywa drobnego). Utworzone mieszanki kruszyw różniły się uziarnieniem kruszyw i zawartością cementu. Zbadano właściwości zarówno świeżej mieszanki betonowej jak i stwardniałego betonu takie jak: konsystencja, gęstość, wytrzymałość na ściskanie, wytrzymałość na rozciąganie przy rozłupywaniu, dynamiczny moduł sprężystości, wytrzymałość na rozciąganie przy zginaniu, wytrzymałość na ścinanie i odporność na ścieranie. Wyniki badań eksperymentalnych wykazały zadowalającą charakterystykę zbadanych właściwości.

In this study, rubber seed/shea butter oil was used to formulate core oil. The formulated core oil was characterised. D-optimal mixture design was used for multi response optimisation of the functional properties of rubber seed-shea butter coil oil. Desirable values for some responses might be obtained from a factor combination while for others responses not so desirable values. Through multiple response optimisations, a factor setting that gives the desirable values for all responses was obtained. The selected optimum mixture setting for the formulated core oil is 65.937% Rubber seed and 34.063% Shea butter oil at desirability of 0.924. Under the optimum condition the functional properties of the core oil was found to be 39.57KN/M2, 626.85KN/M2, 36.63KN/M2, 593.906KN/M2, 412.605 and 167.309s for Green Compressive Strength, Dry Compressive Strength, Green Tensile Strength, Dry Tensile Strength, Permeability and Collapsibility respectively. The optimum conditions were validated with less than 0.2% error. The functional properties of the formulated core oil was compared to the functional properties of linseed core oil. It was found that rubber seed-shea butter core oil can be used for producing cores suitable for Aluminium casting.

The cementitious composite nature of concrete makes very diffi cult directly ascertaining each mixture-factors’ contribution to a given concrete mixture performance characteristics but also doubly diffi cult to accurately balance mutually exclusive requirements for performance (workability, strength, durability) and sustainability (the economic and effi cient use of materials) for mixture proportioning based on recipes of previously produced concretes. This study sought to quantify individual mixture-factors’ contribution to a given concrete mixture’s performance characteristics. Proposed multi-parametric exponential mixture-response models were fi tted to available test-performance data sets of HPC mixtures proportioned based on the best combined grade aggregate (minimum void) to generate mixture-strength and mixture-porosity development (age-mixture response relationships) profi les of HPC mixtures and deemed robust enough to yield reliable determination of mixture-response rate-parameters So, Sp, Si and Po, Pp, Pi as functions of mixture-factors that permitted reliable quantifi cation of contributions to HPC mixture performance of individual mixture-factors and optimization of mixture properties under study over the study domain. Mixture-response sensitivity analysis models (or mixture response trace plots) to allow construction of mixture-factor envelopes and ultimately optimized mixture-response models to facilitate selection of optimal mixture-factors and optimal tailoring of HPC mixture requirements to HPC mixture performance were developed and used to obtain optimized adapted HPC mixtures from available high performance concrete (HPC) mixture design recipes investigated in the study over the study domain. Adapted HPC mixture design recipes yielded alternative mixture compositions with improved performance and effi ciency characteristics with statistical performance metrics MAPE, NMBE and RMSE values of 7.6%,–3.7% and 6.5 MPa, respectively.

The purposes of this study were to investigate the impact of proportions of cast iron scrap, steel scrap, carbon and ferro silicon on hardness and the quality of cast iron and to obtain an appropriate proportion of the four components in iron casting process using a mixture experimental design, analysis of variance and response surface methodology coupled with desirability function. Monte Carlo simulation was used to demonstrate the impacts of different proportions of the four components by varying the proportions of components within ±5% of the four components. Microstructures of the cast iron sample obtained from a company and the cast iron samples casted with the appropriate proportions of the four components were examined to see the differences of size and spacing of pearlite particle. The results showed that linear mixture components were statistically significant implying a high proportion of total variability for hardness of the cast iron samples explained by the casting mixtures of raw materials. The graphite of the sample casted from the appropriate proportion has shorter length and more uniform distribution than that from the company. When varying percentages of the four components within ±5% of the appropriate proportion, simulated hardness values were in the range of 237 to 256 HB.

Purpose: To evaluate the superpave design performance using Epolene (EE-2) as modifier, since SUPERPAVE design is a modified and sophisticated aspect as compared to previous mix design for asphalt mixtures. This is primarily due to the fact that superpave design mix also takes into consideration properties of materials beside asphalt. Design/methodology/approach: This study was conducted using Epolene (EE-2) as modifier in order to evaluate the performance of SUPERPAVE suitability for construction of roads in Alfaraa campus (King Khalid University) Abha, in Asir Province of Saudi Arabia. Glow number test, dynamic modulus test and indirect tensile strength test were conducted to evaluate the performance of EE-2 modifier against the control mixture. Findings: The mixture modified with EE-2 gave better performance in terms of temperature-based performance and resistance to moisture damage. Also, larger values of E*/sinφ were obtained for EE-2 modified mixture at various loading frequencies and temperature in comparison to control mixture. Research limitations/implications: The Epolene modifier successfully enhances and improves the SUPERPAVE mixture performance. Further studies are required to evaluate the performance of EE-2 modifier at much lower temperature ranges. Practical implications: The results of the study allow us to recommend the investigated asphalt mixture for applied for the construction of roads in the Alfaraa (new campus of King Khalid University), Abha, Asir province, Saudi Arabia. Originality/value: A modified asphalt mixture has been proposed that has better performance at higher and lower temperatures. The developed asphalt mixture is more resistant to moisture damage than the compared to control mixture.

This paper introduces a new classifier design method that is based on a modification of the classical Ho-Kashyap procedure. The proposed method uses the absolute error, rather than the squared error, to design a linear classifier. Additionally, easy control of the generalization ability and robustness to outliers are obtained. Next, an extension to a nonlinear classifier by the mixture-of-experts technique is presented. Each expert is represented by a fuzzy if-then rule in the Takagi-Sugeno-Kang form. Finally, examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the introduced method.

The paper proposes a procedure which enables to determine selected geometric and operating parameters for twin-fluid liquid-to-air atomisers with internal mixing. The presented approach assumes that in order to ensure proper operation of an atomiser it is necessary to design its structure and flow parameters in such a way so that the flow inside the mixing chamber has a dispersive character. In order to calculate a required exhaust cross-section for the analysed atomiser, conditions within the exhaust plane: pressure, density and outflow velocity were estimated. In order to determine diameter and number of orifices supplying the liquid to the mixing chamber of the investigated atomiser type, a multi-parameter analysis based on numerical fluid mechanics was performed. The final part of the paper presents selected results obtained from experimental stand measurements made on an atomiser designed according to the presented procedure.

The aim of the study was to indicate the influence of consolidation processes on microstructure and selected mechanical properties of powder metallurgy Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr alloy, which was produced by blending of elemental powders method. Morphology of the mixture and its ingredients were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The consolidation of powders mixture was conducted using two approaches. The first consisted of the uniaxial hot pressing process, the second included two steps – uniaxial cold pressing process and sintering under argon protective atmosphere. Microstructural analysis was performed for both as-pressed compacts using light microscopy. Additionally, computed tomography studies were carried out, in order to examine the internal structure of compacts. Chosen mechanical properties, such as Vickers hardness and compression strength was also determined and compared. The conducted research proves that the proposed production method leads to obtain materials with no structural defects and relatively low porosity. Moreover, due to the proper selection of manufacturing parameters, favorable microstructures can be received, as well as mechanical properties, which are comparable to conventionally produced material with the corresponding chemical composition.

The present paper revisits an estimator proposed by Boes (1966) - James (1978), herein called BJ estimator, which was constructed for estimating mixing proportion in a mixed model based on independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) random samples, and also proposes a completely new (smoothed) estimator for mixing proportion based on independent and not identically distributed (non-i.i.d.) random samples. The proposed estimator is nonparametric in true sense based on known “kernel function” as described in the introduction. We investigated the following results of the smoothed estimator under the non-i.i.d. set-up such as (a) its small sample behaviour is compared with the unsmoothed version (BJ estimator) based on their mean square errors by using Monte-Carlo simulation, and established the percentage gain in precision of smoothed estimator over its unsmoothed version measured in terms of their mean square error, (b) its large sample properties such as almost surely (a.s.) convergence and asymptotic normality of these estimators are established in the present work. These results are completely new in the literature not only under the case of i.i.d., but also generalises to non-i.i.d. set-up.

Ecological, economic and exploitation requirements force manufacturers to develop propulsion systems. In the combustion engines with spark ignition for use in non-road mobile machines, it is common to use fuel supplied systems with carburetors. The mechanical adjustment process of the fuel-air mixture makes it difficult to automate the processes using these engines, one of which is the German 390 engine. The paper presents the concepts of automation solutions to control the fuel-air mixture process. The paper also shows advantages and disadvantages of the construction solutions of transferring motion between the throttle damper actuator and the throttle flap injection unit 30 MM4 by Weber. Among the mentioned solutions were characterized: gear transmission, strand transmission with cogbelt, lever mechanism, solid coupling. In addition, the article presents a prototype solution using strand transmission with cogbelt.
Wymagania ekologiczne, ekonomiczne i eksploatacyjne wymuszają na producentach rozwój konstrukcji układów napędowych. W silnikach spalinowych o zapłonie iskrowym w zastosowaniu do pozadrogowych maszyn ruchomych powszechne jest zasilanie paliwem z wykorzystaniem gaźników. Mechaniczny proces regulacji składu mieszanki paliwowo-powietrznej utrudnia automatyzację procesów z wykorzystaniem tych silników, których jednym z reprezentantów jest silnik German 390. W pracy przedstawiono koncepcje rozwiązań automatyzacji procesu sterowania mieszanką paliwowo-powietrzną. Wykazano wady i zalety zastosowanych rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych przekazania ruchu między aktorem napędzającym klapę przepustnicy, a klapą przepustnicy zespołu wtryskowego 30 MM4 firmy Weber. Wśród wymienionych rozwiązań scharakteryzowano: przekładnie zębatą, przekładnie cięgnową z pasem zębatym, mechanizm dźwigniowy, sprzęgło sztywne. Ponadto przedstawiono prototyp rozwiązania z wykorzystaniem przekładni cięgnowej z pasem zębatym.

Pomiar gazu metodą zwężkową jest bardzo często stosowany w pomiarach przemysłowych. Podczas przepływu gazu niejednokrotnie dochodzi do wykroplenia się cieczy. W efekcie zamiast przepływu jednofazowego mierzy się mieszaninę gaz – ciecz. Z tego powodu pojawiają się błędy wskazań przyrządów pomiarowych wynikające ze zmiany właściwości fazy ciągłej, którą jest gaz. Ponadto pojawienie się dodatkowej fazy prowadzi do powstawania zaburzeń przepływu i pulsacji ciśnienia. Dlatego poszukuje się nowych metod i narzędzi do pomiaru przepływu mieszaniny gaz-ciecz, które umożliwiają uzyskanie zadowalającej dokładność pomiaru, w momencie gdy pojawia się zakłócenie w postaci fazy ciekłej. Zakres badań przedstawionych w obecnej pracy obejmował zastosowanie kryz szczelinowych do pomiaru mieszanin gaz-ciecz. Przeprowadzona została analiza wpływu geometrii kryzy szczelinowej na pomiar strumienia mieszaniny dwufazowej. Badaniom eksperymentalnym poddano kryzę standardową oraz dwie konstrukcje kryz szczelinowych o różnej geometrii otworów. Eksperyment obejmował pomiar przepływu powietrza z niewielką ilością wody rozproszonej w postaci kropel. Wyniki badań porównano z wynikami uzyskanymi dla kryzy standardowej.
Gas measurements employing various slotted orifice designs are often employed in industrial applications. In the conditions of gas flow in the pipelines, we have to do with liquids condensation. As a result, the flow measurements basically involve gas-liquid mixture. For this reason, considerable errors occur in the measurement conducted by instruments resulting from the variations in the properties of the continuous phase, which is formed by gas. In addition, the occurrence of an additional phase results in flow interferences and pulsations of differential pressure. Therefore, new methods and tools are being sought with the aim of measuring the flow of gas-liquid mixtures, which will provide satisfactory accuracy of measurements in the case when flow interference occurs in the form of the liquid phase. The paper reports the results of a study concerned with the use of slotted orifices in the conditions of measurements of gas-liquid mixtures. Experimental research was carried out by application of a standard orifice and two designs of the slotted orifice with various slot geometries. The experiment involved the measurement of the air flow with a small amount of water, which was dispersed in the form of droplets. The results of the experiment were subsequently compared with the results recorded for the case of a standard orifice. The occurrence of liquid in the constant flow of air leads to the variations in the differential pressure developed at the orifice. As a result of the greater mass flow rate of water in the air flow, the value of the differential pressure developed at the orifice is the greater as well . In the conditions of the measurements of two-phase mixture, slotted orifice generate a smaller differential pressure compared to the standard orifice. Slotted orifices also demonstrate lower sensitivity to the variations in the flow rate of liquid in the gas. This is due to the fact that in this type of designs, we have to do with a local change in the beta ratio across the entire cross-section of the pipeline. The liquid droplets are entrained along with the air flow and freely pass through the obstacle, and only a small amount of liquid is held-up at the orifice. The gaps that are located across the entire volume of the tube allow the liquid drops to be carried away again by the gas stream in contrast to the standard solution. During flow measurements involving mixtures by the application of the standard orifice, an additional difficulty is associated with the fact that a large portion of the liquid is stopped at the orifice, as the flowing liquid accumulates in front of the orifice causing flow disturbances.
