W artykule przeanalizowano reportaż internetowy na podstawie metody analizy genologicznej Marii Wojtak. Celem było sprawdzenie, czy stanowi on rewolucję, destrukcję czy ewolucję tradycyjnego reportażu, którego cechy zostały opisane w pierwszej części artykułu. W drugiej części przeanalizowano dwanaście wybranych reportaży cyfrowych w czterech aspektach: strukturalnym, pragmatycznym, poznawczym oraz stylistycznym. Posłużyło to do stworzenia wzorca kanonicznego reportażu internetowego oraz umiejscowienia gatunku w odpowiedniej pozycji genologii dziennikarskiej i dziennikarstwa internetowego. Tekst powstał w ramach Programu Mentoringowego Forum Młodych Medioznawców i Komunikologów Polskiego Towarzystwa Komunikacji Społecznej pod opieką dr. hab. Grzegorza Ptaszka, prof. AGH.
This article analyses online reportage on the basis of Maria Wojtak’s method of genological analysis. The aim was to check whether it represents a revolution, destruction, or evolution of traditional reportage, the features of which were described in the first part of the article. In the second part, 12 selected digital reportages were analysed in 4 aspects: structural, pragmatic, cognitive and stylistic. This was used to create a canonical pattern of online reportage and to place the genre in its proper place in journalistic genology, and online journalism.

This is a critical profile of Wiadomości Bibliograficzne Warszawskie [Warsaw Bibliographical News], a learned journal with a mission to keep a systematic record of current Polish publications and provide bibliographic information about their contents, published in 1882–1886 Teodor Paprocki, a leading Warsaw bookseller. The article outlines the history of the journal; analyzes its structure, layout, contents, editorial techniques, and its functioning in the bookselling trade and the academic community; and, finally, assesses its role in the development of professional bibliography writing in Poland.
Artykuł stanowi próbę opisu czasopisma bibliograficzno-recenzyjnego „Wiadomości Bibliograficzne Warszawskie”, poświęconego bieżącej rejestracji polskiej produkcji wydawniczej oraz bibliografii zawartości czasopism. Pismo wydawane było przez księgarza Teodora Paprockiego w Warszawie w latach 1882–1886. W artykule omówiono jego historię, strukturę, szatę graficzną, zawartość treści, metodę opracowania oraz rolę, jaką czasopismo pełniło w środowisku pracowników książki i naukowym oraz odegrało w rozwoju polskiej bibliografii księgarskiej.

Kluczową kwestię dla rozważań o literaturze najnowszej stanowi problem aktualności typologii gatunkowej, a zatem także funkcjonalnego wymiaru periodyzacji procesu historycznoliterackiego i związanej z nim cezury. Rodzajem literackim szczególnie podatnym na erozję gatunków okazuje się dramat. Rozpad jego form genologicznych zapoczątkowany na przełomie XIX i XX w. (za sprawą dewaluacji podstawowych, rodzajowych kategorii: dialogu, postaci i fabuły), w latach pięćdziesiątych XX w. wiedzie przez „antydramat” absurdystów ku zrodzonej w latach siedemdziesiątych formule „postdramatu”. Wyznacznikami poetyki „postdramatycznej” okazują się pochodzące z różnych systemów chwyty kompozycyjne, m.in. dominacja ruchomego obrazu, heterogeniczność stylu artystycznego, aliterackość, deformacja. Postdramat staje się kategorią intermedialną, transmedialną i transsystemową, wykraczającą poza genre pisma, sytuującą się na pograniczu tekstu językowego, gatunków telewizyjnych, sztuk wizualnych i mediów cyfrowych.
The subject of the relevance of genre typology and consequently the functional role of periods in the historical and literary process as well as the time marks as closely related to the process of periodisation pose the key issue for the discussion on contemporary literature. It turns out that drama is the literary genre that is specifically prone to gradual genre erosion. This disintegration of its genological forms becomes particularly apparent at the turn of the 20th century due to the devaluation of the fundamental categories of the genre such as dialogues, characters or the plot. Later, in the 1950s it transforms into ‘anti-drama’ represented by the theatre of absurd only to develop into a formula of a ‘postdrama’ in the 1970s. Its poetics is determined by composition techniques including dominance of a moving image, heterogeneity of artistic style, non-literariness, and distortion that take their origin from various systems. Postdrama reveals itself as an intermedia, transmedia and transsystem category that goes beyond the literary genre, positioning itself somewhere at the interface between the language text, television genres, visual arts, and digital media.

The text constitutes an overview and arranges various models of classification of media genres. The author depicts understanding of the notion of media genre and systematizes knowledge on various typologies (division into informative and journalistic genres, border genres, popular genres or division of genres based on the medium). She also presents the distinction of the genre and the media format. At the same time, the author describes two views on the genres in intra-genre and inter-genre plane, based on the two methodologies of Maria Wojtak and Bożena Witosz. The linguistic genology provides an overview of genre classification with multidimensional, open and blurred patterns of their assignment. The author is convinced that in order to analyse media texts, one should have historical knowledge on clear divisions of the genres and a methodological perspective which would allow comprehension of the complex genological specifics.

The article is aimed at analysing the genre, structural, stylistic, pragmatic and cognitive traits of the documentary soap titled “Szkoła” (“The School”) which is an example of the process of widening the sphere of tabloid media communication. The inclusion of para-documentaries in institutional, educational and care-providing discourse is another step towards strengthening and consolidating tabloid culture and communication. It seems that the institutional bodies involved in this discourse are under its influence so strongly that they do not see its tabloid character, and what follows – its negative results.

Opis:
Every human activity has its own distinctive, diverse varieties of expression. Furthermore, specific genre patterns correspond to characteristic situations of language actions. In this article I approach the hearings before the Parliamentary Investigation Committee as a genological and communication phenomenon. The aim of the article is to define hearings before the Investigation Committee as a variety of text genre and to present its typological determinants. In this study I will attempt to answer the question whether the operation of the Investigation Committee was conducive to crystallizing a relatively new genre of political and media-related communication, as well as whether there exists a genre pattern of these hearings. In my analysis I paid special attention to the comparison between the questioning of witnesses during a court trial and before an investigation committee. I presented the structure of communication, linguistic rendition, non-linguistic conditions of hearings, and the impact of mass media on the shape of the statements that were produced. The analysis was limited to the hearings of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee for Betting and Gambling, which dealt with the so-called “Gambling scandal”. The language of expression during live coverage of these hearings was taken into account in this article. However, while examining the linguistic structure and the language layer, I rely on text transcripts which constitute a record of the said statements and which reflect its specific characteristics. Eleven transcripts of the Committee meetings were used in this study.

The paper is an attempt at clarifying the object of research into media genology, distancing itself from literary studies genology. In the era of convergence of mass media, we can observe a progress in the blurring of the border between information and journalism, which consequently changes the contemporary communicative convention. As a result, information services are often degraded and the sense of implementing ‘traditional’ indicators of mass media genres is questioned. The change of communicative convention in contemporary mass media requires, above all, the use of cultural context for its analysis, as it determines the methods of creating messages and means of receiving them. It also reveals the mechanism of persuasion, which is used by the broadcaster, as well as the simultaneous strengthening of bottom-up convergence, which is visible in the ways in which recipients broadcast the sense of messages they get.
W artykule podjęto próbę doprecyzowania przedmiotu badań genologii medialnej, dystansując się od genologii literaturoznawczej. W dobie konwergencji mediów obserwujemy postępujące zacieranie się granicy pomiędzy informacjami a publicystyką, co w konsekwencji zmienia współczesną konwencję komunikacyjną. Prowadzi to często do degradacji serwisów informacyjnych, a także podważa zasadność stosowania wyznaczników „tradycyjnych” gatunków medialnych. Zmiana konwencji komunikacyjnej we współczesnych mediach wymaga przede wszystkim wykorzystania do jej analizy kontekstu kulturowego, który decyduje o sposobach tworzenia przekazów i sposobach odbierania treści medialnych, ujawnia mechanizm perswazji stosowany przez nadawcę oraz nasilającą się jednocześnie konwergencję oddolną, przejawiającą się w sposobach nadawania przez odbiorców sensu docierającym do nich treściom.

Artykuł omawia genezę i charakterystykę hybrydy medium i gatunku narracyjnego, jaką jest podcasting true crime (TC). Łącząc nową technologię i stary typ opowieści, kontaminuje on aktywizm z konsumpcjonizmem, informację z rozrywką oraz to, co rzeczywiste, z tym, co wirtualne. Stanowi przykład medium zdemasyfikowanego i choćby z tego względu jest wart badawczego zainteresowania. Autorka wykazuje, że powinien również stać się przedmiotem analiz humanistyki zaangażowanej. Podcasty TC bowiem nie tylko werbalizują i propagują określone postawy wobec przestępstw, ale także stanowią narzędzie krytyki społecznej. W odróżnieniu od wcześniejszych tekstów TC przekierowują uwagę odbiorców z czynów i osoby przestępcy na problem niewywiązywania się instytucji bezpieczeństwa państwa z powierzonych im zadań.
The article describes the hybrid of medium and the narrative genre, which is true crime (TC) podcasting. Combining new technology and old storytelling, it blends activism with consumerism, information with entertainment, and the real with the virtual. It may be an example of the media demassification trend and for this reason it is worth researching. The author shows that it should also become the subject of analyzes of the engaged humanities. TC podcasts not only verbalize and promote certain attitudes towards crime, but also constitute a tool of social criticism. Contrary to earlier TC texts, they redirect the audience’s attention from the crime itself and the criminal to the problem of the failure of the security services to fulfill the tasks entrusted to them.

This article seeks to examine (auto)biographical plays. Texts and performances inspired by biographical material form a significant part of contemporary dramaturgy and theatrical projects. In Poland, this type of activity is the domain of directors coming from different generations and representing various styles, for example, Krystian Lupa, Maciej Wojtyszko, Wiktor Rubin, Michał Buszewicz, Weronika Szczawińska. Both dramatic texts and stage performances inspired by (auto)biography are non-uniform messages with updates of various genre forms. They may thus be classified as “blurred genres.” Two plays (An Autobiography Just in Case by Michał Buszewicz and Simply by Weronika Szczawińska) shown online during the Divine Comedy theatrical festival in Krakow in 2020 were used to analyze the diverse genre features of stage statements (characteristic of, among other things, intimate journal, autobiography, performance or theatre of fact) and the phenomenon of media mediation of theatrical performances made available to the audience via the streaming platform. The form of the theatrical texts is of great importance in the staging process. Regardless of whether they are autonomous dramatic texts that exist prior to their performance or scripts written specifically for the needs of a given theater project, their dramatic model contributes substantially to the aesthetics of the spectacle. In specific stage productions, these texts — due to their performative properties — combine other stage matter in a coherent manner, thus creating an important tool for representing (auto)biography and an instrument for engaging the audience.

Celem artykułu było ustalenie, jak środowisko badaczy komunikacji medialnej korzysta z metodologii wypracowanej przez Marię Wojtak, a w konsekwencji – określenie wagi tej koncepcji dla współczesnej mediolingwistyki i szerzej – dla medioznawstwa. Metoda badań: Realizując ten cel, autorki artykułu przeprowadziły badanie z udziałem 69 naukowców, przyjmujących w oglądzie mediów perspektywę genologiczną lub dyskursologiczną. Badanie było trzyetapowe, wykorzystano pracę na źródłach naukowych, bazach wiedzy, formularz Google’a oraz wywiady pogłębione (określone jako punktowe). Wyniki: Analiza bazy źródłowej pozwoliła – po pierwsze – na uogólnienia dotyczące zasięgu i natężenia wykorzystywania koncepcji Wojtak, wyrażające się m.in. powszechnością i uniwersalnością zastosowań oraz przekonaniami o powszechności i uniwersalności tych zastosowań, a także deklaracjami dotyczącymi inspiracyjności pomysłów Wojtak jako punktu wyjścia autorskich poszukiwań badawczych. Po drugie, analiza ta wykazała, że badacze komunikacji medialnej widzą te koncepcje jako narzędzia opisu nie tylko tekstów medialnych, lecz także mediów. Po trzecie, zwróciła uwagę na interdyscyplinarną i scalającą środowisko mediolingwistyczne moc koncepcji Wojtak. Oryginalność/wartość poznawcza: Największą wartością była próba opisania środowiska badaczy wykorzystujących koncepcje Marii Wojtak, ich przekonań i miejsc naukowych inspiracji.
The aim of the paper is to investigate how the media communication research community employs the methodological solutions developed by Maria Wojtak and, consequently, to determine the importance of her approach for contemporary media linguistics and, more broadly, for media studies. Research methods: In pursuit of this objective, the authors arranged a survey with 69 researchers who rely on a text-genre or discursive outlook in their examination of the media. The study was a three-stage process, using scientific sources, knowledge bases, a Google form and in-depth interviews (scoring interviews). Results and conclusions: The analysis of the source base enabled––firstly––generalizations related to the extent and intensity of the use of Wojtak’s conceptions in research, expressed in the universality and generality of their applications and beliefs about the universality and generality of these applications, as well as declarations about the inspirational nature of Wojtak’s ideas as a starting point for the authors’ research explorations. Secondly, the analysis showed that media communication scholars view Wojtak’s concepts not only as tools for describing media texts but also media. Thirdly, the analysis allowed pinpointing the interdisciplinary and unifying power of Wojtak’s conceptions in the media-linguistic community. Originality/cognitive value: The greatest value is an attempt to characterize the community of researchers using Maria Wojtak’s conceptions, their beliefs and points of scientific inspiration.

Metodologia: W zaprezentowanych w artykule wynikach badań zostaną uwzględnione trzy istotne dla koncepcji M. Wojtak pojęcia: wzorca gatunkowego (w odniesieniu do analizy seriali) wraz z czteropoziomową analizą jego cech, na którą składają się aspekty strukturalny, poznawczy, pragmatyczny i stylistyczny, gatunku w formie kolekcji (w odniesieniu do analizy magazynu telewizyjnego i (wideo)blogu), kolekcji gatunków (w odniesieniu do analizy telewizyjnej transmisji sportowej). Wyniki i wnioski: Swoje koncepcje genologiczne M. Wojtak wypracowała głównie na podstawie analizy gatunków prasowych, jednak z powodzeniem – jak pokazują badania, których wyniki prezentujemy w artykule – można je zastosować do analizy najbardziej złożonych audiowizualnych przekazów, także takich, których i gatunkowość, i tekstowość są dyskusyjne. Wartość poznawcza: Koncepcje M. Wojtak prowokują do rozważań o płynności form współczesnej komunikacji medialnej (transmedialnej), ich otwartości, braku wyraźnych granic, co wynika z istoty komunikacji sieciowej, jej hipertekstowości, interaktywności, w sieci bowiem bycie tekstem in statu nascendi staje się jego cechą konstytutywną.
The aim of the article is to present the application possibilities inherent in Maria Wojtak’s genological concepts. The practical dimension of the Lublin researcher’s theory will be presented in relation to audiovisual communications: TV series, TV magazines, sports (video)blogs, and sports broadcasts. Research methods: The results of the research presented in the article will take into account three concepts which are key to M. Wojtak’s theory: genre pattern (in relation to TV series) along with a four-level analysis of its features, consisting of the following aspects: structural, cognitive, pragmatic and stylistic, genre in the form of a collection (in relation to the analysis of a TV magazine and (video blog), and a collection of genres (in relation to the analysis of a TV sports broadcast). Results and conclusions: M. Wojtak developed her genological concepts mainly on the basis of analyses of press genres, yet successfully––as the results of the research presented in this article show––they may be applied to the analysis of the most complex audiovisual communications, also those whose both genericity and textuality are debatable. Originality/cognitive value: M. Wojtak’s concepts provoke considerations about the fluidity of the forms of contemporary media (transmedia) communication, their openness, and lack of clear boundaries, which follows from the essence of network communication, its hypertextuality, interactivity, since in a network that is a text in statu nascendi becomes its constitutive feature.

Celem artykułu było (po pierwsze) pokazanie koncepcji Marii Wojtak jako bazy metodologicznej myślenia o tekście, gatunku, dyskursie i o funkcjonowaniu tych kategorii w mediach, a także (po drugie) zwrócenie uwagi na ich analityczną przydatność w badaniach empirii komunikacyjnej. Koncepcja: Autorki, wyszedłszy od syntezy genologicznych dokonań lubelskiej lingwistki, wskazały możliwe medioznawcze ich zastosowania. Wnioski: Zaprezentowane koncepcje Wojtak są humanistycznym myśleniem o tekście, gatunku, dyskursie w mediach, pozwalającym na badanie najbardziej skomplikowanych zjawisk komunikacyjnych. Oryginalność/wartość poznawcza: Wartością artykułu jest nie tylko oryginalna mediolingwistycznie uwarunkowana synteza koncepcji Wojtak oraz zwrócenie uwagi na ich medioznawcze zastosowania, ale także sposób wizualizacji tych koncepcji.
The primary aim of the paper is to demonstrate how Maria Wojtak’s conceptions serve as a methodological basis for thinking about text, genre or discourse and the functioning of these categories in the media. The secondary aim is to draw attention to the analytical utility of her categories in empirical research of communicative realities. Research concept: Starting with a synthesis of Wojtak’s achievements in text genre studies, the authors indicate their possible applications in media studies. Results and conclusions: The concepts developed by Wojtak represent a humanistic conceptualization of text, genre, and discourse in the media which enables explorations of the most complex communicative phenomena. Originality/cognitive value: The value of the paper lies not only in the original media-linguistic synthesis of Wojtak’s conceptions or the attention paid to their applications in media studies but also in the way these conceptions are visualized.

W artykule przedstawiono obraz igrzysk oraz obraz innych fragmentów rzeczywistości zawartych w memach internetowych dotyczących XXXI Letnich Igrzysk Olimpijskich. Uwzględniono przy tym multimodalny charakter analizowanych przekazów, a przeprowadzane analizy umieszczono w ramach badań genologicznych i badań nad medialnym obrazem świata. Opisano sposoby wprowadzania poszczególnych sensów. Wskazano prawidłowości rządzące mówieniem o świecie w memach, takie jak antropocentryzm, polskocentryzm oraz emocjocentryzm i w konsekwencji dookreślono właściwości poznawczego aspektu wzorca gatunkowego memu internetowego. Mem internetowy scharakteryzowano jako gatunek wykorzystywany do oceny świata opartej na dystansie.
The article presents an image of the Games and an image of other pieces of reality contained in internet memes about the XXXI Summer Olympics. The multimodal nature of the analyzed messages was taken into account and the analyzes carried out were included in the genological research and the study of the media image of the world. The ways of entering individual meanings are described. The correctness that governs the way in which the world is spoken in memes is indicated, such as anthropocentrism, polishcentrism and emotioncentrism, and consequently the cognitive properties of the genre pattern of the internet memes. The internet memes was characterized as a species used to evaluate the world based on distance.

We analysed the mechanisms generating specific genres in the digital network and described the phenomena which result in shaping new forms of modern communication genres. New digital genre-communication forms are exemplified by Facebook “art memes”, which should be studied from two perspectives: literary research and social studies. The art of painting remediated in digital forms of so-called “memes” illustrates the global flow from the Western centre to the Eastern semi-peripheries of digitalizing Euro-Atlantic civilization. We applied analytical framework consisting of six criteria: sender, recipient, message, code, context and contact. Our conclusion is that the process of global-local flow, as exemplified by Facebook art memes, results in local enrichment of the global medium and content.
