    The article analyses the names that define colours of interior wall paints that are currently available on the Polish market. The results of the analysis are then used to identify and discuss substantial problems that accompany unequivocal classification of these descriptions (descriptors) into a delimitatrion of the category of proper names. More detailed analyses, approaching the available linguistic material from the perspective of their marketing value and function, have made it possible to reveal the manifestations of the ritualisation of language, and to provide a typology for the most frequently used themes employed by creators of names, such as “closeness to nature” or “virtual journey” that, in the process of perception, provoke and enhance particular associations in the recipient’s consciousness.

    Opis:
    The article explores the influence of the specialised language on the shaping of the image of the German car brand Volkswagen. The ana-lysed material comprises marketing texts from an image magazine of the Volkswagen Magazin brand, available on the company’s website. The issue will be examined on the basis of the semantic category of Electro Mobility, which constitutes a subcategory of the semantic cat-egory of innovation, which in turn is currently the company’s main ar-ea of activity and the focus of all actions, also linguistic, in terms of shaping the brand’s image. The specialised language in the texts from the Magazine, a digital journal, whose articles resemble forms of jour-nalistic writing, limits itself mainly to specialist vocabulary – the tech-nical vocabulary referring to automotive technology, as well as pseu-do-specialised language, whose role is merely to evoke technical con-notations. Both types of specialist terminology contribute to the re-storing of the reputation of the brand in the eyes of the consumers, which has been severely affected as a result of the emissions scandal in 2015.

    Zarówno ogólna teoria nazw własnych, jak i poszczególne subdyscypliny onomastyki stosują właściwą dla swoich celów badawczych i metodologii terminologię. Podstawowe terminy naukowe w onomastyce, poczynając od „nazwy własnej”/„onimu”, można uznać za operatory taksonomiczne, które pozwalają porządkować fakty onomastyczne. Potrzebę zastosowania odpowiedniej terminologii badawczej zaspokaja się także w jednym z najmłodszych działów nazewnictwa, tj. chrematonomastyce. Do zestawu operatorów taksonomicznych w obszarze chrematonimii włącza się termin „markonim” utożsamiany z „chrematonimem marketingowym” i konfrontowany z innymi konceptami terminologicznymi, takimi jak „firmonim”, „logonim” czy też „ergonim” i „pragmatonim”, a wreszcie opisowo ujęta „nazwa handlowa” oraz „znak towarowy”. Markonim uznany zostaje za uniwersalny operator taksonomiczny nazewnictwa gospodarczego, odnosząc się zarówno do nazw firm, jak i produktów/usług. Treść i zakres markonimu nawiązuje do szeroko pojętej idei marki, pozostając strukturą językową, która skupia na sobie właściwości komunikacyjno-marketingowe.
    Both the general theory of proper names and the individual sub-disciplines of onomastics use terminology appropriate to their research objectives and methodology. The basic scientific terms in onomastics, starting with proper name/onym, can be regarded as taxonomic operators, which allow the ordering of onomastic facts. The need for appropriate research terminology is also met in one of the youngest branches of nomenclature, i.e. chrematonomastics. The set of taxonomic operators in the field of chrematonymy includes the term markonym ‘brand name’ identified with marketing chrematonym and confronted with other terminological concepts such as firmonym, logonym or ergonym and pragmatonym, and, finally, descriptively included trade name or trademark. The markonym is recognised as the universal taxonomic operator of business naming, referring to both company and product/service names. The content and scope of the markonym relates to the broad idea of a brand, remaining a linguistic structure that focuses interdisciplinary, especially communicative and marketing properties.
