Opis:
The purpose of this article is to determine the effect of the concentration of magnetic particles in ferro-oil on the value of its magnetic susceptibility coefficient χ. Determination of the flow and operating parameters of slide journal bearings lubricated with ferro-oils requires, inter alia, designation the first magnetization N and the magnetic induction B vector components, dependent on the magnetic propertis of the lubricant. The fundamental problem lies in the inability to make direct accurate measurement of magnetic induction in the lubricating gap of slide bearing and its solution is to determine it on the analytical and numerical way. A key issue for the accuracy of such solutions is to obtain reasonably accurate values of magnetic susceptibility χ. This article attempts to determine these values and estimate their relationship with the concentration of magnetic particles concentration in ferro-oil being potential lubricant above-mentioned bearings. In this paper, the authors present the characteristic of experimental test benches to determine the coefficients of the magnetic susceptibility. They present method of determining this value from obtained measurement data and analyse the impact of the magnetic particles concentration in ferro-oil on its magnetic susceptibility values. Tests were performed for selected concentrations of magnetic particles in ferro-oil ranging: 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% and the tested ferro-oil was product from Unterensingen FerroTec Company (Germany) which is a mixture of colloidal mineral engine oil LongLife Gold Penzzoil class SAE 15W-40 with addition of Fe3O4 magnetic particles and a surfactant.

In this work the thermotropic nematic liquid crystal 4-trans-4'-n-hexyl-cyclohexyl-isothiocyanato-benzene (6CHBT) was dissolved in phenyl-isothiocyanate and doped with spherical magnetic particles with volume concentration ϕ₁=10¯⁴ and ϕ₂=10¯³. The influence of the volume concentration on the phase transitions from isotropic to nematic phase was studied by three experimental methods: optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and dielectric measurements. The obtained results confirmed the coexistence of isotropic and nematic phase, i.e. nematic or ferronematic droplets in isotropic phase in a wide temperature range between nematic and isotropic phase.

Opis:
The intrinsic thermodynamic magnetic properties of clusters are discussed using spin wave theory for a Heisenberg model, with a fixed magnitude of the spins S$\text{}_{i}$=S and site independent nearest neighbor exchange interaction. The consequences of the more realistic Hubbard model is considered in which we allow for a magnetization profile at T=0 and a structural relaxation, which in turn will give rise to a site dependent exchange interaction. It is concluded that correlation effects among the electrons play a very important role in small clusters, albeit not modifying the thermodynamic properties drastically. The finite cluster size gives foremost rise to a discrete excitation spectrum with a large energy gap to the ground state. The relaxation of the magnetization during the reversal of the external magnetic field is discussed. A first step towards a quantitative understanding of the nonequilibrium statistical mechanics in single-domain ferromagnetic particles is a systematic study of the kinetic Ising model. Results from Monte Carlo simulation and droplet theory are reviewed with particular attention to the effects of various boundary conditions, including a decrease in the number of surface bonds and an addition of surface anisotropy. A new dynamic "outside-in" flip mode is proposed.

The influence of internal magnetic field (generated by magnetic particles) on the superconducting properties of prepared composites were studied as a function of concentration of magnetic particles and their magnetic state. The observed data both of the shielding and the Meissner effect were compared with corresponding linear combination of pure signals of magnetite and superconductor, respectively. The large differences were observed for demagnetized samples. It means that result must be discussed in the frame of the distribution of internal magnetic field created by the magnetic particles.

In this work we describe the magnetic Freedericksz transition in HAB-based (4, 4'-di-n-heptylazoxybenzene) ferronematics. The ferronematic samples were prepared with two different volume concentrations of magnetic particles $φ_1 = 2×10^{-5}$ and $φ_2 = 2×10^{-4}$. The liquid crystal HAB is nematic at the temperatures from ≈53°C to 70°C and smectic A at the temperatures under 53°C. The anisotropy of dielectric permitivity of HAB liquid crystal is positive in nematic phase and negative in smectic A phase. The magnetic Fredericksz transition was studied in nematic phase at temperature 60°C.

Opis:
The effect of rod-like magnetic particles on liquid crystal (6CHBT) structural changes in electric and weak magnetic fields were studied by means of the attenuation of surface acoustic wave of frequency 30 MHz propagating along ferronematic liquid crystals. Three low volume concentrations (Φ=1×10¯⁵, 1×10¯⁴ and 1×10¯³) of rod-like magnetic particles were added to liquid crystal during its isotropic phase. Several measurements including the investigation of the effects of electrical and magnetic fields applied both separately and in conjunction as well as the influence of temperature on the surface acoustic wave attenuation were performed. The distinctive surface acoustic wave attenuation responses induced by both electric and magnetic fields in studied ferronematic liquid crystals have been observed suggesting both structural changes and the orientational coupling between magnetic moments of magnetic particles and the director of the liquid crystal. Obtained results confirmed the significant influence of the presence of magnetic particles on the structural properties and resulting behavior of 6CHBT liquid crystal.

We demonstrate in this study that a rotating magnetic field (RMF) and spinning magnetic particles using this kind of magnetic field give rise to a motion mechanism capable of triggering mixing effect in liquids. In this experimental work two mixing mechanisms were used, magnetohydrodynamics due to the Lorentz force and mixing due to magnetic particles under the action of RMF, acted upon by the Kelvin force. To evidence these mechanisms, we report mixing time measured during the neutralization process (weak acid-strong base) under the action of RMF with and without magnetic particles. The efficiency of the mixing process was enhanced by a maximum of 6.5% and 12.8% owing to the application of RMF and the synergistic effect of magnetic field and magnetic particles, respectively

Introduction of ferroelectric or magnetic nanoparticles into nematic liquid crystal is a promising method for the improvement of the electro-optic or magneto-optic properties of different nematic liquid crystals by non-chemical way. This work is devoted to the study of composite systems of liquid crystal with spherical ferroelectric or magnetic particles with the aim to study their sensitivity to electric and magnetic fields. The nematic 4-(trans-4'-n-hexylcyclohexyl)-isothiocyanatobenzene (6CHBT) liquid crystal was doped with SbSI ferroelectric particles or with $Fe_{3}O_{4}$ magnetic particles. The structural transitions in ferronematic samples were indicated by capacitance measurements in a capacitor made of ITO-coated glass electrodes in combined electric and magnetic fields. The obtained results showed the increase of the shift in critical voltage with increasing magnetic field in both kinds of samples.

Studying the dynamic behavior of magnetic particle suspensions in the low intensity magnetic separator has important implications for various mineral beneficiation processes. A new approach for fully coupled multi-physics modeling of the dynamic behavior of multi-type magnetic particles (MTMPs) is developed in the study. In this model, the particle tracing module is employed to identify and determine individual particle trajectories in the fluid and magnetic field, which are modelled through the COMSOL Multiphysics. The results show that the different arrangements of the permanent magnet assembly and the volume percentage of interlocked particles affect the dynamic behavior of MTMPs and the efficiency of the separation. The model is compared with experiments and the particle capture theory and the correctness of the solution obtained from COMSOL is demonstrated. The model gives new possibilities to control, optimise, and develop the process of LIMS.

Measurement of magnetic susceptibility of topsoil represents a very useful tool for the detection of atmospherically deposited magnetic particles. The samples of forest soils from the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains (the Czech Republic) were used for identification of emissions sources of particles with magnetic ordering. Magnetic susceptibility was measured at bulk samples of grain size class under 2 mm. Microanalysis using electron microscope with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer was used for the determination of particles in the magnetic fraction. The samples of dust from the sintering plant of the Iron Works in the town of Třinec were analysed. The values of magnetic susceptibility of forest soils in the Třinec region are increased. In the relatively near vicinity of the industrial area, the average value for Javorový Mount was 7.90×10-6 m3/kg, for Ostrý Mount it was 6.69×10-6 m3/ kg. It was proved that they were higher than the average values from the Beskydy Mountains (4.64×10-6 m3/kg). The concentrations of lead and magnetic susceptibility in soils showed significant correlation dependence (rs = 0.85). The iron and steel industry represent the primary source of the pollution load in forest soils of the studied area. Statistically, significant dependences between the organic matter content and the lead and zinc concentrations as well as between the magnetic susceptibility values and the iron concentrations in forest soils were found. It was confirmed that the airborne particles are deposited on vegetation and accumulated in the organic horizon of forest soils.

Opis:
There is an important operational parameter in the case of sliding bearings are friction forces and coefficient of friction. It depends on how much proportions of heat in the gap of the oil film from the value of the friction force. Ferrofluid lubricated sliding bearings have specific structure and are suitable only for use in specific cases. We may use them in the absence of gravity, vacuum, or in case of strong magnetic fields or radioactive. Maintenance of lubricant in the oil-gap as well as the viscosity change occurs through controlling of the external magnetic field. Change of the value of viscosity and mass forces (magnetic forces) in the equation of momentum depends on the concentration of magnetic particles and the intensity of external magnetic field. The aim of this paper is to present the influence of concentration of magnetic particles on the friction force value and coefficient of friction. The numerical calculations of friction forces and friction coefficient have been performed before setting the hydrodynamic pressure and a lift force from the Reynolds-type equation. Reynolds-type equation has been derived from basic equations, ie equations of momentum and equations of stream's continuity. There have been also used Maxwell's equations for the ferrofluid in the case of stationary magnetic field's existence. It has been assumed stationary and laminar flow of lubricant liquid and the isothermal model for lubrication of slide bearings. As the constitutive equation has been used Rivlin-Ericksen one. The cylindrical journal bearing of finite length with the smooth sleeve of whole angle of a belt has been taken into consideration. In a thin layer of oil film has been assumed constancy of the oil density with temperature changes and the independence of the oil's thermal conductivity coefficient from thermal changes. The viscosity of the oil depends mainly on the magnetic field.

Opis:
Results of investigation on the transport of vorticity in Rivlin-Ericksen viscoelastic fluid in the presence of suspended magnetic particles is presented here. Equations governing the transport of vorticity in Rivlin-Ericksen viscoelastic fluid in the presence of suspended magnetic particles are obtained from the equations of magnetic fluid flow. From these equations it follows that the transport of solid vorticity is coupled with the transport of fluid vorticity. Further, we find that because of thermokinetic process, fluid vorticity may exist in the absence of solid vorticity, but when fluid vorticity is zero, then solid vorticity is necessarily zero. A two-dimensional case is also studied and found that the fluid vorticity is indirectly influenced by the temperature and the magnetic field gradient.
