Opis:
The mycology of peatlands, with their specific plant communities and numerous rare plant species, has been underexplored and is poorly recognized. The main objectives of this study were to identify the species richness and diversity of macromycetes in raised and transitional bogs of Pomerania and to establish correlations between macroscopic fungi and peatland communities occurring in the area in view of environmental conditions. Investigations spanning a period of ten years were conducted at 134 sites (71 raised and 63 transitional bogs) in eight non-forest peatland communities (Caricetum lasiocarpae, Caricetum limosae, Caricetum rostratae, Eriophoro angustifolii-Sphagnetum recurvi, Rhynchosporetum albae, Erico-Sphagnetum medii, Sphagnetum magellanici, and the Eriophorum vaginatum-Sphagnum fallax community) and two forest communities (Vaccinio uliginosi-Pinetum and Vaccinio uliginosi-Betuletum pubescentis) in which 108 permanent observation plots were established for detailed examinations. A total of 191 macromycete species were recorded in the peatlands. The smallest number of species was recorded in Rhynchosporetum albae (12 species) and Caricetum rostratae (15 species). Phytocoenoses richest in fungi were Vaccinio uliginosi-Pinetum (102 species) and Vaccinio uliginosi-Betuletum pubescentis (121 species). The number of macromycete species recorded in individual peatland communities depends on the community type and is not conditioned by the number of observations and the number and the total area of permanent plots. Five mycosociologico-ecological groups of macroscopic fungi were distinguished based on numerical analyses. Four groups comprise species of fungi associated with a specific phytocoenosis or a group of phytocoenoses. One group consists of fungi with a broader ecological scale. The majority of environmental variables representing the substrate’s chemical properties, humidity and pH show a statistically significant influence on the diversity of macroscopic fungi species in the peatland communities. Cartogram maps of the distribution of 21 species of peatland fungi are included and geographico-ecological features of the species are briefly described.

Opis:
The state of Gujarat is well known for its contrasting eco-regions such as moist deciduous forests and deserts. The documentation of Lignicolous fungal diversity of Gujarat state was started in 19th century by different scientist. Detailed fungal diversity study was started in 2003 from different parts of Gujarat to identify the lignicolous fungi that destroy wood logs in different forests. During these studies we noticed a great lacuna in fungal diversity of lignicolous fungi occurring in Gujarat. Here we provide, for the first time, lignicolous fungal diversity from timbers of Gujarat state. The survey revealed that the economically important woods present in Gujarat were 14 and locally available common woods were seven. A total of 69 species Lignicolous macro fungi belong to 15 families and 30 general. These wood deteriorating fungi were belonging to the families Xylariaceae, Agaricaceae Coprinaceae, Pleurotaceae Auricularreae, Bondarzewiaceae Ganodermataceae, Shizophyllaceae, Stecherinaceae, Hymenochaetaceae, Lachnocladiaceae, Schizoporaceae, Fomitopsidaceae, Polyporaceae Stereaceae. All the lignicolous fungi were new to Gujarat, India. For the first time Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Sing. Agaricus silvaticus Schaeff. Coprinus plicatilis (Fr.) Fr. Pleurotus pulmonarius (Fries) Quélet, belonging to Agaricales were reported from Gujarat, India. The commonly observed lignicolous fungi on woods belongs to Basidiomycota and Ascomycota were Schizophyllum commune, Flavodon flavus, Ganoderma lucidum, Daldinia concentric, Xylaria polymorpha.

Opis:
From ancient times medicine and natural products have been closely linked through the use of traditional medicines and natural toxins. Macrofungi have an established history of use especially in traditional oriental medicine. Nowadays, mushrooms comprise a vast and yet largely untapped source of powerful new pharmaceutical products. In particular, and most importantly for modern medicine, they are an unlimited source of compounds that exhibit multidirectional activity: antioxidant, immuno-enhancing, immunostimulatory, antibacterial, antiviral, anti- inflammatory, antidiabetic, antiallergenic and anticarcinogenic [1, 2, 5-8]. In the presented work, a substances with biological activity from mainly Basidiomycota were reviewed, including low-molecular-weight (terpenoids, polyphenols steroids, quinones, amines, cerebrosides) (Tab.1) and high-molecular- weight compounds (homo and heteroglucans, glycans, glycoproteins, glycopeptides, peptides, proteins) (Tab. 2). Selected species of toxic and hallucinogenic mushrooms were also included in the review. At present, mushrooms are considered to be functional food. Beneficial health effects may be achieved through the direct consumption of fruiting bodies or the use of dietary supplements in the form of ready-to-use preparations containing mushroom extracts. The last years is also a period of a flourishing new field of medicine - mycopharmacology. The scientific approach to compounds contained in mushrooms allowed the isolation and identification of many valuable active substances which are used in the prevention and treatment of lifestyle diseases.

Opis:
T he paper deals with the succession of basidiomycete macrofungi on abandoned farmland. T T he research was carried out in the unique complex of old fields of different age located on the southwest edge of the Białowieża old-growth forest (NE Poland). T T hese lands undergo spontaneous secondary succession leading to formation of a continental fresh pine forest. Regular observations of basidiomata in 16 permanent plots (11 plots of 1000 m2, 5 plots of 400 m2) representing initial, optimal and terminal stage of vegetation development from psammophilous grassland to a pine forest with 100-year-old tree stand were conducted for three years. Soil and vegetation analyses were also carried out as well as quantitative examination of ectomycorrhizae in root samples. T he series yielded 300 species of macromycetes (including 6 collective taxa) found in permanent plots plus 18 species outside the plots. T T he species composition, spatial distribution of sporocarps, and quantitative structure of fungal communities changed along the successional gradient. Increasing diversity of fungi resulted from persistence of species typical of open areas and species associated with younger trees, as well as accumulation of species associated with older trees and more developed stands. Some species typical of younger phases were replaced with species arriving later in the chronosequence. Species usually occurred long before and after attaining maximum abundance and frequency. Species associated with certain periods of vegetation development could be distinguished, as well as species accompanying the phytocoenoses regardless of their developmental stage. Patterns in structural changes of the fungal community, e.g., in number of species, abundance, frequency and production of carpophores, could also be recognised. T T hey were different in ectomycorrhizal and in saprotrophic fungi. T T he occurrence of the former was influenced mainly by the presence of symbiotic trees and their age, stand structure and soil properties, while occurrence of the latter was affected by microclimatic factors and by diversity of accessible substrates. Changes in fungal communities were consistent with vegetation changes, but were also specific to this group of organisms.

Opis:
In fall 2018 and 2019, we assessed colonization by fungi on Douglas fir trees [Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco], white pine (Pinus strobus L.), and red cedar (Thuja plicata D. Don.) on selected experimental plots of the former Prussian Experimental Station, where nonnative tree species were introduced from North America over a century ago. The presence of sporocarps on trunks, root collars, and stumps as well as the litter layer in the soil within a radius of 0.5 m around the trunk of the tree was determined. Additionally, the volume of dead wood on the forest floor of the entire plot was assessed. We recorded numerous fungi on trees and stumps as well as in the litter and soil. For the 31 plots in 12 forest districts, we determined 745 sporocarps of 48 taxa, with 335/19 on the wood of P. menziesii trees and stumps, 377/15 on P. strobus, and 33/6 on T. plicata trees. The highest share of trees with various trunk damage levels was found for T. plicata (70.3%) and the lowest for P. menziesii (6.2%). Among the root parasitic fungi, Heterobasidion sp. and Armillaria sp. were found, especially on the collars and stumps of T. plicata and P. strobus; we did not find basidiomata of both pathogens on P. menziesii. The volume of dead wood within the P. menziesii plots averaged 7.1 m3/ha, whereas in T. plicata plots, it was 56.3 m3/ha. We identified 10 taxa that have not been reported in association with P. strobus for Poland (Cylindrobasidium laeve, Dacrymyces sp., Exidia pithya, E. saccharina, Gymnopilus pnetrans, Leptoporus mollis, Mycena sanguinolenta, Tapinella panuoides, Trametes versicolor, and Xylaria hypoxylon) and three taxa (Exidia pithya, Leptoporus mollis, Serpula himantioides) associated with T. plicata.
