Opis:
The paper presents the mechanisms of long-range dependence measurement in the context of data transmission in Data Center networks. The research involved mainly analyzing network traffic generated by protocols such as CIFS and iSCSI, which are commonly used in such infrastructures. The purpose of the paper was to determine whether the network traffic of above mentioned protocols encapsulated in TCP/IP protocol will have persistent, anti-persist, or random walk character. By indicating long-range dependencies for this type of network traffic, it will be possible to develop effective mechanisms for detecting anomaly in its transmission as well as flow control, including QoS mechanisms, load balancing, etc.

Opis:
Surface modification of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) by nitrogen ion implantation and ion beam-assisted deposition (C, N) was investigated. The depth distribution of implanted nitrogen atoms was analysed using the Rutherford backscattering technique. Nitrogen implantation reduces the coefficient of friction and wear. A better effect can be obtained when nitrogen implantation is combined with carbon deposition. Based on the changes in the coefficients of friction and wear as well as profilograms of wear tracks, the improvement of the tribological properties was found at a depth exceeding nearly 5 times the range of the implanted nitrogen ions. Identification of the long-range effect for Ti6Al4V alloy was performed on the basis of tribological analyses. This study is a continuation of research conducted for AISI 316L and H11 steel.

The article presents the construction of a regression model for the long-range forecast of tercile categories of the monthly mean temperature. Two methods from the group of the partial least squares (PLS) and sparse partial least squares (SPLS) methods were used. The selected methods combine the properties of principal component analysis (PCA) with features of multiple regression methods, and apply the creation of latent layers. These methods also have no restrictions related to the independence of predictors and no constraints on the model dimension. The predictors are percentiles (10%, 50% and 90%) for selected fields of the NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis dataset. The model uses a time series of predictors for periods from 5 to 30 years. The obtained set of forecasts is subjected to the evaluation process based on indicators for the dependent period. This allows for the selection of a reliable ensemble of forecasts. The presented model was tested between January 2014 and December 2016.

Various trading strategies have been proposed that use estimates of the Hurst coefficient, which is an indicator of long-range dependence, for the calculation of buy and sell signals. This paper introduces frequency-domain tests for longrange dependence which do, in contrast to conventional procedures, not assume that the number of used periodogram ordinates grow with the length of the time series. These tests are applied to series of gold price returns and stock index returns in a rolling analysis. The results suggest that there is no long-range dependence, indicating that trading strategies based on fractal dynamics have no sound statistical basis.

The generalized Penrose tiling is an infinite set of decagonal tilings. It is constructed with the same rhombs (thick and thin) as the conventional Penrose tiling, but its long-range order depends on the so-called shift parameter sın łangle 0,1). The formula for structure factor, calculated within the average unit cell approach, works in physical space only and is directly dependent on the s parameter. It allows to straightforwardly change the long-range order of the refined structure just by changing the s parameter and keeping the tile decoration unchanged. The possibility and viability of using the shift as one of the refinement parameters during structure refinement was tested for a numerically generated simple binary decagonal quasicrystal.

The interacting electron Hamiltonian H = H$\text{}_{D}$+∑$\text{}_{K,ζ}$H$\text{}_{K,ζ}$ is considered in the Hilbert space spanned by Slater determinants of Bloch wave functions. H$\text{}_{D}$ consists of the diagonal part of H in this basis. K and ζ=0, ±1 stand for the total momentum and projected spin of electron pairs and H$\text{}_{K,ζ}$ is the off-diagonal part of H describing the most general two-electron scattering process conserving K and ζ. It is shown that the eigenspectrum of H includes all eigenvalues of H$\text{}_{D}$+H$\text{}_{K,ζ}$ for every K and ζ value. The associated eigenvectors of H are shown to have off-diagonal long-range order.

Experimental results on energetic characteristics of low frequency (about 200 Hz) underwater channel sound reflection by ocean mountains and islands are presented. lt is investigated also sound penetration into shallow water. Transformation of vertical structure of sound field over continental slope is considered. Continental slope and shelf-wedge reflection coefficients of law frequency sound propagating in the underwater waveguide were measured. Results of the work show that low-frequency sound reflections from large-scale bottom irregularities can be important in ocean acoustics.
