Opis:
Purpose: Transport has an impact on economic strength, product availability and the quality of life and attractiveness of urban areas. Transport has an impact on economic strength, product availability and the quality of life and attractiveness of urban areas. The aim of the article is to present the importance of freight transport and its nuisance from the point of view of a resident. Design/methodology/approach: The document contains an analysis of the literature on freight transport in cities. In addition, GUS data on the transport of goods in Poland were analyzed and surveys were conducted in which respondents assessed the impact of goods flows on their quality of life. Findings: During the literature search, a correlation was found between the transport of goods in the city and the functioning of the inhabitants. It turns out that residents largely generate the flow of goods themselves using on-demand deliveries. Originality/value The study presents the results of proprietary research addressed to residents in order to learn their opinions about the transport of goods and deliveries carried out in the city. In addition, the article, based on the available statistical data, proves the relationship between the development of the e-commerce industry and the transport of goods in the city.

Opis:
Expressway emergencies tend to cause traffic congestion, and understanding the travel time delays of on-road vehicles under different combinations of event scenarios and road traffic conditions is valuable for guiding the accurate emergency dispatch services. Most existing studies used methods that combine the Lighthill-Whitham-Richards (LWR) theory and basic traffic diagrams to solve this problem, but the discrete traffic flow characteristics caused by the presence of heavy vehicles have not been considered, thus affecting the applicability of those results to road traffic characteristics in China. Moreover, there is a lack of systematic research on multiple combinations of unexpected event scenarios and traffic conditions, and the guidance value of the previously obtained results is limited. In order to improve the applicability of the prediction model and accurately predict the severity of emergencies, based on a logistic model that is applicable to emergencies, a velocity–density model is constructed to describe discrete traffic flow characteristics. Based on LWR theory, the internal driving force of expressway traffic state evolution under emergency conditions is explored. Combined with real-time traffic flow data, the parameters of the logistic model are calibrated, and a logistic velocity-density model is constructed using a goodness-of-fit test and a marching method, including the free-flow velocity, turning density and heavy vehicle mixing ratio. Thus, the problem that existing models lack applicability to road traffic characteristics in China is solved. Travel time delay is associated with the impact range of an emergency, and it is an effective index for evaluating the severity of emergency incidents. Thus, the travel time delays under different scenarios, different numbers of blocked lanes and different orthogonal combinations of approximate saturation conditions are explored, and the impacts of lane blockage on emergency incidents and travel time delays are obtained. The conclusions show that the presented logistic velocity-density model constructed based on discrete traffic flow characteristics can properly quantify the impact of the presence of heavy vehicles. Additionally, the results can provide theoretical support for handling emergencies and emergency rescues.

Relevance of the study: As the experience of advanced countries shows, the development of the economy in our country, in particular, in the transportation services market, is associated with the development of interaction between all types of transport. Thus, in modern conditions, for the growth of the role of railway transport, multimodal transportation, which is important for the interaction of Ukraine with the countries of Europe and the East, is becoming important and will also help minimize costs and preserve the environment. Therefore, the issues of evaluating the introduction of multimodal transportation with logistic principles are discussed in the article. It is shown how to determine the marginal substitution rate in the conveyance type while using various modes of transport, based on the utility function and transportation costs. Purpose of the study: The purpose of the article is to develop measures to improve the functioning of parts in multimodal freight delivery routes by minimizing transportation costs, taking into account quality indicators. For this purpose, the following tasks have been set and are being solved: to develop a model for evaluating the efficiency of using different modes of transport with optimal costs; to choose a method for estimating the optimal delivery route and freight volumes; to evaluate the efficiency of transportation technology based on a qualimetric indicator. Approaches: An approach to a comprehensive evaluation of the effect from the activities of transport enterprises in multimodal transportation based on cost optimization, with the qualimetric indicator, and aimed at maximizing the satisfaction of shippers' requirements is offered when determining the route of such transportation parameters as the cost and the quality of freight delivery. Results: The results of the theoretical generalization and analysis of approaches to the formalization of the functioning process in multimodal transportation systems for the delivery of goods by rail and road modes of transport are presented in the article. The significance of the results. The materials in the article are of practical value for employees of transport and logistics companies and enterprises, scientists, and pedagogical workers to improve their professional level.

The development of modern systems based on autonomous transport creates new conditions for their management and generates an emerging need to define dedicated functional service structures. An important element of consideration also taken into account is the scenario for large-size unmanned facilities operation in the multifunctional port facility and its connections to power supply from renewable energy sources. Despite the high degree of complexity, modern transport solutions should be focused on optimizing the distribution time and trans-shipment time within the intermodal supply chain as well as provide ecological logistic solutions. Due to the large number of system components, the study presents a simplified database structure allowing for a comprehensive technological overview within the entire system.

Realizacja przewozów towarowych z wykorzystaniem środków przewozowych różnych gałęzi transportu wymaga wypełniania szeregu dokumentów towarzyszących przesyłce. Dokumentacja towarzysząca przesyłce najczęściej wypełniana jest ręcznie w formie papierowej, co jest powodem wielu błędów i w rezultacie problemów z efektywną realizacją procesów transportowych. W dobie postępującej digitalizacji przepływu informacji, możliwość wypełniania dokumentacji w formie elektronicznej oraz przesyłania jej pomiędzy systemami informatycznymi uczestników procesów transportowych wydaje się konieczna dla podnoszenia konkurencyjności rynkowej przedsiębiorstw. Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja problemów i potrzeb uczestników procesów transportowych w zakresie wypełniania dokumentacji transportowej, dostępu do tej dokumentacji w trakcie oraz po zakończeniu przewozu jak również przesyłania tej dokumentacji między tymi uczestnikami. Analizy wymienionych wyżej problemów i potrzeb dokonano na podstawie studiów literatury branżowej, wiedzy eksperckiej oraz ankietyzacji, którą przeprowadzono uczestników procesów przewozowych. Dodatkowo na potrzeby prowadzonych analiz zidentyfikowano uczestników procesów przewozowych we wszystkich gałęziach transportu. Przeprowadzone badania literaturowe oraz wyniki ankietyzacji uczestników procesów transportowych w różnych gałęziach transportu wykazały szereg problemów i potrzeb z jakimi na co dzień stykają się oni w zakresie obiegu dokumentacji transportowej. Wspólny mianownik dla tych problemów i potrzeb stanowi konieczność ręcznego w wielu przypadkach wypełniania dokumentacji transportowej a także przesyłania jej pomiędzy uczestnikami procesów z wykorzystaniem tradycyjnej poczty. Zarówno literatura branżowa jak i wyniki ankietyzacji wskazują, iż maksymalizacja digitalizacji zarówno w zakresie wypełniania jak i obiegu dokumentacji transportowej zdecydowanie przyczyniłaby się do usprawnienia procesów logistycznych. Już teraz wymierne skutki digitalizacji wybranych elementów procesów transportowych można obserwować dzięki elektronicznej wymianie danych EDI pomiędzy systemami informatycznymi uczestników procesów logistycznych.
The performance of freight transport with the use of means of transport of various modes requires the completion of several documents accompanying the shipment. The documentation accompanying the load is often completed in paper form, which causes many errors and, as a result, problems with the effective implementation of transport processes. In the era of progressive digitization of information flow, the possibility of filling in documentation in electronic form and sending it between the IT systems seems necessary to increase the competitiveness of enterprises. The article aims to identify the problems and needs of participants in transport processes in terms of completing transport documentation, accessing this documentation during and after the transport, and sending this documentation between these participants. The analysis of the problems mentioned above and needs was made based on studies of industry literature, expert knowledge, and a survey conducted by participants in transport processes. Additionally, for the analysis, participants in the transport processes in all modes of transport were identified. The literature research and the survey of participants of transport processes in various modes of transport showed many problems they encounter daily in the circulation of transport documentation. The common denominator for these problems and needs is the necessity to fill in the transport documentation manually in many cases and also to send it between process participants using traditional mail. The literature review and the survey results indicate that maximizing digitization in terms of filling in and circulation of transport documentation would improve logistics processes. The measurable effects of digitization of selected elements of transport processes can already be observed thanks to the electronic exchange of EDI data between IT systems of participants in logistics processes.

The outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic and the actions that all countries took in its aftermath all over the world in the first quarter of 2020 and later, i.e., during lockdowns and other restrictive measures, introducing a short and medium-term freezing of economic activity, had a strong impact on their economies and, consequently, also on the global economy. They hit seriously its particularly sensitive sectors, such as industry, trade and transport. The aim of undertaken research is to evaluate the impact of the pandemic on the functioning of maritime transport sector as well as to indicate its consequences for the global supply chains between 2020 and 2021 (first quarter). The research is mainly focused on assessing the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on the global shipping and especially container one that is contemporarily the most vital link of the global intermodal land-sea supply chains. The analyses take into account the adaptive measures taken by ship operators and other individual parties being an integral link of the global supply chains with an aim to mitigate the effects of radical slowdown in industrial and global trade activity. The research was based on the analyses, reports and several business information carried out by specialized international organizations as well as ship carriers and logistics providers. The obtained research results indicate the need to reconfigure global logistics supply chains and increase their resilience by introducing new digital solutions. It is high time to introduce new smart, green digital supply chains and subsequently to reconfigure them much more towards the regional trade and economic relations and ties among countries (reshoring). Such activities aiming at rebuilding the logistic supply chains may at the same time change the presently existing business environment in global maritime shipping, enforcing not only changes in ship owners’ business models but also serious structural alterations on the shipping freight markets.

In recent years, the transport mode choice of students of higher educational institutions has become a subject of increasing interest. Investigating the modal choice of students, who form a considerable section of the population, is crucial for sustainable urban transport planning and understanding the quality of life of students. Reviews of previous studies have indicated that hilly cities in less developed countries are neglected in transportation studies. The present paper investigates the travel behaviour of non-local, off-campus college students in Aizawl – a fast-growing hilly city in northeast India. The study found that transport mode choices are influenced by interrelated factors, including socio-economic background, demographic, availability of transport mode and location of housing. It was also found that walking and public buses are the most preferred modes of commuting among the studied college students. Female students who rent houses near their colleges are more likely to walk than their male counterparts. On the other hand, male students belonging to high-income families tended to travel by private vehicles from their residences, which are located relatively far away from colleges. The study argues for the enhancement of the intake capacity of residential hostels inside the campus to improve the growing transport problem of off-campus students in the city.

The rapid increase in the number of vehicles in cities and the intensity of their movement necessitates the use of appropriate transport management solutions. Various telematics techniques are used in logistics transport management in cities, which are the basis for the functioning of telematics systems. This article analyses selected telematics techniques used in logistics transport management in cities and presents the developed concept of changes in logistics transport management in the city of Piła, including the use of appropriate telematics techniques. The existing telematics system in the city of Piła and the proposed solutions were subjected to appropriate examination. This study aimed to verify the quality of the current state of the system and learn opinions on the proposed solutions that could be implemented in Piła, considering the effects that could be achieved as a result of improving the existing system. The survey method was used to obtain relevant information. The questionnaire developed, containing the elements assumed in this study, was addressed to respondents residing in Piła and its environs. The survey was conducted in December 2020 and January 2021.

The problem presented in this article concerns the impact of demand characteristics for consumer goods on the profitability of purchasing strategy, including the choice of both the source of supply and transport technology (deliveries in containers by sea, rail, air, and road transport). To assess the profitability of applying a specific strategy, the author developed a model to conduct simulations using the Monte Carlo approach for two demand distributions (Gaussian and Gamma), various sales fluctuations, and changes in demand during the delivery time. Calculations were carried out considering the costs of transport, storage, capital costs related to maintaining stocks, and costs of lost sales. The simulation results show that the greater the fluctuations and the lower the predictability of the demand, the greater the profitability of deliveries using air transport and local deliveries. However, concrete decisions depend on knowledge of the consequences of making these decisions and whether appropriate cost accounting is used in enterprises. The results of the calculations also indicate that the strategy of outsourcing production in low-cost countries will, in many cases, become unprofitable if production costs in these countries increase even slightly.

Supply chain management is one of the most important elements of sustainable development. And due to the fact that the world market is driven by supply and demand, and the determinant of access to products is regional and international logistics, this paper focuses on the possibilities of implementing a green transport strategy in the context of sustainable development in logistic enterprises. This paper presents the results of the SWOT analysis pointing out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats of green vehicles market for the transport enterprises. It was noticed that the situation on the green vehicles market for the transport enterprises is characterized by the advantage of strengths and these strengths should be used to maximize the use of green vehicles. It emphasized that subsidies for green vehicles would allow to invest in a modern fleet, new solutions (e.g. own charging stations) can have an impact on the greater energy efficiency (self-sufficiency), increase of social awareness would force enterprises to take appropriate actions in the field of environmental protection and development of public transport based on green vehicles.

Transport companies can be regarded as a technical, organizational, economic and legal transport system. Maintaining the quality and continuity of the implementation of transport requisitions requires a high level of readiness of vehicles and staff (especially drivers). Managing and controlling the tasks being implemented is supported by mathematical models enabling to assess and determine the strategy regarding the actions undertaken. The support for managing processes relies mainly on the analysis of sequences of the subsequent activities (states). In many cases, this sequence of activities is modelled using stochastic processes that satisfy Markov property. Their classic application is only possible if the conditional probability distributions of future states are determined solely by the current operational state. The identification of such a stochastic process relies mainly on determining the probability matrix of interstate transitions. Unfortunately, in many cases the analyzed series of activities do not satisfy Markov property. In addition, the occurrence of the next state is affected by the length of time the system remains in the specified operating state. The article presents the method of constructing the matrix of probabilities of transitions between operational states. The values of this matrix depend on the time the object remains in the given state. The aim of the article was to present an alternative method of estimating the parameters of this matrix in a situation where the studied series does not satisfy Markov property. The logistic regression was used for this purpose.
Przedsiębiorstwa transportowe mogą być traktowane jako wyodrębniony pod względem technicznym, organizacyjnym, ekonomicznym i prawnym system transportowy. Zachowanie jakości i ciągłości realizacji zleceń przewozowych wymaga wysokiego poziomu gotowości pojazdów oraz personelu (szczególnie kierowców). Kontrolowanie i sterowanie realizowanymi zadaniami wspierane jest modelami matematycznymi, umożliwiającymi ocenę i określenie strategii dotyczącej podejmowanych działań. Wsparcie procesów zarządzania polega głównie na analizie sekwencji kolejnych, realizowanych czynności (stanów). W wielu przypadkach taki ciąg czynności jest modelowany za pomocą procesów stochastycznych, spełniających własność Markowa. Ich klasyczne zastosowanie możliwe jest tylko w przypadku, gdy warunkowe rozkłady prawdopodobieństwa przyszłych stanów są określone wyłącznie przez bieżący stan eksploatacyjny. Identyfikacja takiego procesu stochastycznego polega głównie na wyznaczeniu macierzy prawdopodobieństw przejść międzystanowych. Niestety w wielu przypadkach analizowane ciągi czynności nie spełniają własności Markowa. Dodatkowo, na wystąpienie kolejnego stanu wpływa długość interwału czasowego pozostania systemu w określonym stanie eksploatacyjnym. W artykule przedstawiono metodę konstrukcji macierzy prawdopodobieństw przejść pomiędzy stanami eksploatacyjnymi. Wartości tej macierzy zależą od czasu przebywania obiektu w danym stanie. Celem artykułu było zaprezentowanie alternatywnej metody estymacji parametrów tej macierzy w sytuacji, gdy badany szereg nie spełnia własności Markowa. Wykorzystano w tym celu regresję logistyczną.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the research was to identify problems and develop a way to improve the communication process between partners in the logistics process. Design/methodology/approach: By analysing complaints and interviewing employees, the most important problems in the process were identified. Thanks to the 5 Whys analysis, the root causes of the problems were then identified. Understanding the sources of problems was used to design and implement an IT system supporting communication between suppliers and the manufacturer. Findings: The use of a quality management tool has identified the causes of the problems observed. Three basic sources have been distinguished: lack of dedicated platform to contact the carrier, lack of a knowledge base about the means of transport available at carriers and lack of integration of documentation with a given carrier in the IT system. By knowing the sources of the problems, it was possible to design an efficient and effective IT system. Research limitations/implications: Improvement of the process was possible thanks to the involvement of top management and awareness of the necessity of changes by interested parties. Practical implications: As a result of the analyses, a coherent design of the IT system was developed, whose implementation ensured that problems in the process were reduced, including sending errors and invoicing errors, as well as a shortening of the average processing time for a single order. Originality/value: The implication of quality management tools to improve the logistics process.

The topic of the article is the expansion of the network of logistic corridors in Europe. It presents the current and projected problems of long-distance freight transport and the opportunities for the development of transport in Europe through the designation of new logistic corridors with innovative infrastructure, giving the opportunity to use alternative vehicles and multimodal transport. The further part of the article focuses on Poland's participation in the above solutions and on the impact of new logistic corridors on our country's economy.

Opis:
Purpose: The growing importance of e-commerce makes it necessary to look for new solutions in ways of delivering goods on the last delivery stretch from the last distribution warehouse to the final customer. The purpose of this article is to show the importance of last mile transport, to present problems connected with it and to show what modern solutions can be implemented, to solve these problems. Design/methodology/approach: The document contains an analysis of the literature related to last mile transport. Based on the literature, the article describes the problem of last-mile transport in cities and proposes solutions that could improve the flow of goods. Findings: During the literature research, a correlation was found between transport costs and the method of delivery of a parcel at the last mile stage. Originality/value: Contemporary cities and metropolises are an area of dynamic social, cultural and economic changes. More and more crowded streets and increased CO2 emissions are the effects of the development of goods flows inside the city and more people living in urban areas. The study presents modern methods of delivering shipments at the last mile and their impact on freight flows in the city.

Opis:
The effective functioning of the logistics infrastructure is a prerequisite for the modernization of the regional and, as a result, the national economy, the transition to an innovative development path, as well as improving the population living standards. The study of historical patterns and characteristics of the development of logistics will allow us to determine the main directions for improving the activities of the logistics infrastructure and use appropriate management tools. The most important elements of the regional infrastructure are traditionally automobile and rail transport, which ensure republican and international relations of the region.
Skuteczne funkcjonowanie infrastruktury logistycznej jest warunkiem koniecznym modernizacji regionalnej, a co za tym idzie gospodarki narodowej, przejścia na innowacyjną ścieżkę rozwoju, a także podniesienia standardu życia ludności. Badanie historycznych wzorców i charakterystyk rozwoju logistyki pozwoli nam określić główne kierunki usprawnienia działań infrastruktury logistycznej i zastosować odpowiednie narzędzia zarządzania. Najważniejszymi elementami infrastruktury regionalnej są tradycyjnie transport drogowy i kolejowy, zapewniający republikańskie i międzynarodowe połączenia regionu.
