В статье рассматриваются педагогический, культуроведческий, лингвистический и библиологический подходы к анализу учебников русского языка для иностранцев. Приводятся примеры научных исследований учебников XVIII века, выполненных с позиций указанных подходов. Делается вывод о необходимости комплексного подхода к изучению учебников.
The article discusses pedagogical, cultural studies, linguistic and bibiological approaches to the analysis of Russian textbooks. Examples of scientific studies of textbooks of the XVIII century, made from the standpoint of these approaches, are given. The conclusion is made about the need for an integrated approach to the study of textbooks.
Artykuł podejmuje próbę analizy podręczników języka rosyjskiego dla cudzoziemców aspekcie pedagogicznym, kulturoznawczym, lingwistycznym oraz bibliologicznym. Przytaczane są przykłady podręczników XVIII wieku; wyprowadzony jest wniosek o konieczności kompleksowego podejścia do badań nad podręcznikami.

During four decades of his service in the Church, Valentin Felixovich Voino-Yasenetsky (Archbishop Luke of Simferopol and Crimea) delivered numerous sermons, most of which were recorded. Later, they began to appear in the form of publications and became the object of research by representatives of various scientific disciplines. In his sermons, apart from other issues, the preacher paid special attention to the family and education of the younger generation. This article is an attempt to analyze the religious discourse of the Archbishop, using the example of the sermon “On the family and education of children”, delivered by him on 13 October 1947. The author of the sermon adheres to the traditional point of view on marriage and raising children. And this can be confirmed not only by the texts of his sermons, but also by the lifepath the preacher took himself. In this text, Archbishop Luke, in the classical tradition of quotations from the Bible, expresses his attitude towards the issues raised and offers solutions to them. If we take into account the processes going on in the modern world (new views on the institution of marriage, devaluation of marriage and the family, the reluctance of parents to take care of their own children, shifting of responsibility for raising children to other people or state institutions and organizations), it should be noted that, despite the fact that the sermon was delivered more than 70 years ago, it has not lost its relevance and can serve as a reference book for spouses and parents, as revealed by the analysis of the preacher’s discourse. Taking into account the peculiarities of the analyzed genre, the author of this article attempts to look at the text of the sermon from the theolinguistic perspective and, consequently, applies the theolinguistic approach in the process of its analysis and description.

Modern linguistics is characterised by a great interest in contrastive investigations, comparing different aspects of related and distant languages. Due to the development of the linguistic theory of translation, the comparative study of languages is very topical nowadays, creating a basis for the theory and practice of translation as a whole and for translation stylistics in particular. When comparing different aspects of two languages we can improve our knowledge of each language because some specific features of the language are explained when compared. Hence, the linguistic theory of translation will be developed by means of studying similar and contrastive aspects of two languages which form a translation pair – the source language and the target language. Stylistic topics play an important role in translation linguistics. Stylistics as a science is connected with translation as an object of linguistic analysis. The two-language character of linguistic translation investigation approximates it with investigation into contrastive stylistics, which studies the functional equivalents of units from different languages.

A variety of scientific concepts about the content, level model and structural‑component composition of the linguistic persona are demonstrated; information on the formation of this phenomenon in the field of related humanities, in particular in the relationship of linguistics, literature, psycholinguistics, psychology, medicine. Within the framework of psycholinguistics, classifications of language personality depending on normative or specific speech are distinguished. Traced is the migration of the term ‘accentuation’ from medicine to linguistics.

Female authors of scientific works were few in the eighteenth century in comparison with the increasing production of male writers. Their limited presence in the scientific panorama of the period could, therefore, account for the lack of research on how these women wrote or the sort of linguistic strategies they were familiar with from a present-day perspective. Some external considerations should be also reckoned as of paramount importance: on the one hand, science as such was an underdeveloped concept at the moment. Male writers were busy in an attempt to set the grounds of science and to determine the best linguistic choices to convey scientific knowledge. On the other, it was not socially accepted that women somehow involved themselves in matters other than those such as the family or the household, or similar matters. The results obtained from the linguistic analysis point to a predominant use of modality indicating prediction and necessity in contrast to hypothetical constructions and recognizable verbs of persuasion. It follows from this that it is a modulated discourse constrained to a certain extent by the social norms of the period.

The aim of the article is to analyse the linguistic landscape of the Polish-Czech borderland with particular emphasis placed on the number and hierarchy of languages existing in the public space. A static study will be carried out i.e. a study of the language(s) of public road signs, names of streets and squares, public-access buildings, signs on businesses and shops, hoardings etc. The research material comes from two small towns: Duszniki Zdrój in Poland and Hronov in the Czech Republic, both aspiring to become local tourist centres. The global vs. local opposition is of importance to the assumptions made in the study because the language will be regarded as a local practice (Pennycock, 2010). In conclusion, the study will examine the thesis that the local linguistic landscape is a testimony to a transition from a monolingual paradigm towards a “post-monolingual condition” (Yildiz, 2012). It will also be very interesting to find out which configuration of the languages can be considered sustainable in terms of the area’s multilingual nature.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the usefulness and reliability of the onomasiological approach in the cross-linguistic analysis of fixed multiword expressions based on the example of Polish phrases coined according to the model: ADJECTIVENOM FEM SING + GŁOWA ‘HEAD’ and their English and Italian counterparts. The three corpora are constituted by expressions registered in general and phraseological dictionaries of the respective languages to ensure that the units belong to the canon of Polish, English and Italian phraseological stock. The analysis of units collected for the purpose of the study clearly shows that in order to determine the true picture of cross-linguistic equivalence, the study should be focused on semantics of analysed phrases. Furthermore, the formal aspectmay be of minor significance in some cases due to the similarity of imagery of a source language idiom and the target language lexical item. On the other hand, stylistic value may have a great impact on the relation of cross-linguistic correspondence of the analysed units.

The contrastive analysis of Polish and Vietnamese literary works reveals many phenomena related to grammatical category of tense, which can not be explained using the concepts of traditional or non-traditional approaches to grammatical categories in general, and the category of tense in particular. These difficulties speak for the necessity of taking a more relevant approach to all language facts, which are labeled "tense". The purpose of our paper is to signal such an approach, which will serve as a theoretical basis for interlingual contrastive analysis. We claim that interlingual contrastive analysis of tense should not aim to find out the differences and/or similarities in the ways and/or the means expressing tenses, but, first of all, to elucidate the differences and/or similarities in the ways different languages look at the logical time, and the means used by them to define it.

The article focuses on the translation of non-literary Chinese proper names, a subject which to date has not enjoyed much research interest as a result of the common belief that proper names are untranslatable. The article discusses techniques used in the translation of Chinese anthroponyms, toponyms and brand names into Polish and English. The author refers to the strategies used in the process of transferring names to the target language and presents the consequences of applying given techniques from the cognitive perspective, which entails analysing the names in terms of their structure and meaning. Particular attention is paid to the connotations of the names, the impact they have on the speakers of a given language, as well as the mental images that can be derived from their structure. In the contrastive analysis of the names of tourist locations in Beijing and their Polish and English equivalents, the author applies the cognitive grammar approach as developed by Ronald W. Langacker. The image schemas of the names are used to present the distinct conceptualizations embodied in the names with the same references in different languages. One of the chapters describes how European names are adapted into Chinese. The study also provides an overview of the characteristics of the Chinese onomasticon, a factor which makes translation from Chinese to European languages particularly complicated. The observations made in the course of the analysis permit conclusions to be drawn on the linguistic worldview created by Polish, Chinese and English propria.

Comprehensive Linguistic Approach to Frege's Commitment Puzzle There is a puzzle, noticed by Frege, about inferences from sentences like (F1) "Jupiter has four moons" to sentences like (F2) "The number of moons of Jupiter is four". They seem to be truth-conditionally equivalent but, apparently, they say something about completely different things. (F1) seems to be about moons, while (F2) about numbers. This phenomenon raises several puzzles about semantics, syntax, and is one of main tools of easy ontology. Recently, new linguistic and pragmatic solutions were proposed. Linguistic solutions of Thomas Hofweber and Katharina Felka are refreshed versions of the traditional paraphrastic approach that involve consideration of conversational contexts as well as syntactical structure of copular sentences. The pragmatic solution resorts to bracketing or indifference to certain possible alternatives and contexts of a sentence. I discuss their strong and weak points and propose to include in further research John Biro's account of the expression "the number of planets", which solves the problems of the new linguistic approaches.

The paper deals with professionalisation of teacher training with a focus on future mother-tongue teachers, i.e. teachers of the Czech language and literature, with a view to the new National Curriculum and its sections, namely the subject group Language and Linguistic Communication. The authors also stress comprehensiveness and inseparability of language teaching and language education and point to the communicative approach based on the dialogic nature of effective teaching communication. The interconnection of teacher – content of education – pupil is seen through the naturalness of speech contact, respecting the aim of mother-tongue teaching defined as cultivation of the linguistic code in pupils with a teacher characterized as a model for speech.

The main aim of this paper is Croatian-Polish comparative analysis of analytical and syncretic units of language, which are semantic, inter-linguistic equivalents, on the example of Croatian verb sudjelovati and its Polish counterpart in the form of collocation brać/wziąć udział and the synonymous verb uczestniczyć. The semantic analysis was carried out in accordance with dictionary definitions for aforementioned linguistic units, and then they were compared with linguistic uses in the form of sentences excerpted from national Croatian and Polish corps. The analysis was supplemented with analytical and synthetic research of linguistic units and their inter-linguistic semantic and structural equivalence in administrative style on the basis of parallel Croatian-Polish textual corps of legal acts obtained from the base EurLex. The analysis showed that a meaning, however, is more important than a formal structure of linguistic unit, because, regardless of whether for example in Polish language, there was collocation or synthetic verb in a sentence, transferred content was convergent, in reference to inter-linguistic equivalence, with Croatian language. Discrepancies in translation, seen on the basis of parallel corps, resulted from syntax changes which were introduced in analysed texts by translators of EU law in Croatia and Poland. This analysis may be useful from the point of view of glottodidactics and translation.  
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza porównawcza chorwacko-polska analitycznych i syntetycznych jednostek języka będących semantycznymi ekwiwalentami międzyjęzykowymi na przykładzie chorwackiego czasownika sudjelovati i jego polskiego odpowiednika w postaci kolokacji brać/wziąć udział i synonimicznego czasownika uczestniczyć. Analiza semantyczna została przeprowadzona w oparciu o definicje słownikowe dla wskazanych jednostek języka, a następnie jej wyniki porównane z uzusem językowym w postaci zdań wyekscerpowanych z korpusów narodowych chorwackiego i polskiego. Analiza została uzupełniona o badanie analityczności i syntetyczności jednostek językowych oraz ich międzyjęzykowej ekwiwalencji semantycznej i strukturalnej w stylu administracyjnym na podstawie korpusu równoległego chorwacko-polskiego tekstów aktów prawnych pozyskanych z bazy Eur-Lex. Zostało wykazane, że od struktury formalnej jednostki języka ważniejsze jest znaczenie, gdyż niezależnie od tego, czy np. dla języka polskiego w zdaniu występowała kolokacja, czy czasownik syntetyczny, przekazana treść była zbieżna, również w odniesieniu do ekwiwalencji międzyjęzykowej z językiem chorwackim. Rozbieżności w przekładzie uwidocznione na podstawie korpusu równoległego wynikały ze zmian składniowych wprowadzanych do analizowanych tekstów przez tłumaczy prawa unijnego w Chorwacji i w Polsce.

Nowadays, the need for inter-cultural exchange is inevitably connected with the necessity of establishing harmonious co-existence for numerous cultures and identities. Therefore, it is crucial to educate translators in a way that enables them to pay special attention to identity and cultural perturbations present in translated texts (culture and language hybridisation, multiple identity, cultural dislocation, presence in linguistic and political discourse of minority cultures), regardless of their genre or form. Such a strong emphasis on identity problems in the translation is especially relevant in the European context, where the attention of researchers and politicians directed at identity problems stemming from ethnical and cultural issues sets the framework for a new cultural paradigm that determines the future development of the EU. Becoming acquainted with this paradigm which emphasises fluency, identity unmarkedness and the new model of European collectivity is indispensable for a translator aspiring to become a true cultural mediator.
