The article discusses how librarians are using social networking sites in Poland. It describes the largest polish librarian’s virtual communities and shows them as a tool that can be helpful in librarian’s work. Librarian comprise a special professional group that is evolving very fast. The reason is the fast progress of technology and internet network that have reached the polish libraries. Virtual communities are the source of professional knowledge where librarians can discuss their professional matters and integrate. This professional virtual communities are expanding and concentrate more users every day. Internet is now one of the most important communication platform for polish library workers.

Celem artykułu jest omówienie zastosowania distance learningu w Bibliotece Politechniki Krakowskiej (BPK). Dzięki tej nowej formule kształcenia, bibliotekarze mają możliwość przygotowania profesjonalnych szkoleń e-learningowych adresowanych do różnych grup odbiorców. Wzbogacone o narzędzia multimedialne i interaktywne stanowią atrakcyjną formę przekazywania wiedzy i zdobywania kompetencji. BPK posadawia kursy na platformie e-learnigowej Politechniki Krakowskiej. Część z nich realizowana jest w ramach projektu „Politechnika XXI wieku…”, współfinansowanego ze środków Unii Europejskiej.
The aim of the article is distance learning and its application in the Library of the Cracow University of Technology (CUT). Distance learning allows librarians to prepare professional workshops for different groups of users. Thanks to multimedia and interactive tools, e-courses become an attractive method of knowledge transfer and skills acquisition. The CUT Library takes part in the project “Politechnika XXI wieku” (CUT in the 21 century), co-financed by the European Union, and some of the courses are created within this framework. However, all e-courses are positioned on the CUT web-platform.

E-learning stanowić może jedną z metod edukacji użytkowników bibliotek i bibliotekarzy oraz element promocji biblioteki. Biblioteka, która pragnie sprostać oczekiwaniom nowoczesnych użytkowników oraz samych bibliotekarzy, coraz sprawniej wykorzystujących dostęp do zasobów sieci, nie może zlekceważyć e-learningu jako jednej z popularniejszych dziś form kształcenia na odległość. Nie bez znaczenia wydaje się więc popularyzacja zdalnego kształcenia, dzięki któremu coraz większa grupa pracowników bibliotek będzie tą drogą podnosić swoje kwalifikacje. Zanim jednak e-learning stanie się jednym z typowych elementów promocji biblioteki i wykładnikiem jej edukacyjnych funkcji, już na starcie należałoby przemyśleć, jak zaplanować politykę biblioteki w tym obszarze oraz jak efektywnie wykorzystać e-learning dla jej realizacji. Szkolenia on-line staną się tym samym alternatywnym systemem szeroko rozumianej edukacji w bibliotece zarówno dla jej użytkowników jak i pracowników.
E-learning may constitute a method of education of library users and librarians, and a library promotion component as well. A library which wants to meet the expectations of modern users and librarians themselves, who use access to the available network resources more and more efficiently, cannot ignore e-learning, which is one of the most popular forms of distance learning today. Popularization of distance learning thus seems to be an important issue, as owing to that process a larger group of librarians will raise their qualifications. However, before e-learning becomes one of typical components of promoting the library and the exponent of its educational functions, at the very beginning we need to plan a library policy in this field. Moreover, we need to take into consideration how to use e-learning effectively for the realization of this policy. Thus on-line trainings will become an alternative education system in the library.

Czasopisma elektroniczne są odpowiedzią na nowy model komunikowania, w którym priorytetem jest szybkie przekazywanie informacji o osiągnięciach naukowych i badawczych. Artykuł podzielono na trzy części. Pierwsza zawiera informacje ogólne z wyliczeniem plusów i minusów publikacji elektronicznych. Kolejna analizuje pod względem wydawców i częstotliwości wydań 56 polskich, naukowych i fachowych czasopism bibliotekarskich publikowanych zarówno w formie drukowanej jak i elektronicznej. W trzeciej części omówiono 9 tytułów bibliotekarskich e-czasopism uwzględniając informację o ich tematyce, zespołach redakcyjnych, czytelnikach i autorach tekstów.
Electronic journals are a response to a new model of communication, where the priority is rapid transmission of information about scientific and research achievements. This article is divided into three parts. The first one contains general information and enumerates the pros and cons of electronic publications. The next part presents the analysis of 56 Polish scientific and specialist librarian journals which are published both in print and in electronic format. The third section describes nine e-journals, including information about their topics, editorial teams, readers and authors of texts.

Artykuł ma celu przybliżenie specyfiki gromadzenia zbiorów w bibliotece filologicznej, traktowanej jako podstawowy warsztat pracy naukowo-badawczej Instytutu Neofilologii, nie tylko dla filologa. Jak taki warsztat zorganizować – dokonać odpowiedniego doboru księgozbioru i na bieżąco go uzupełniać oraz jak wykorzystać nowe źródła poszukiwań – to główne zadania dla bibliotekarza zajmującego się gromadzeniem. Artykuł przedstawia go w różnych rolach, uwzględniając główny profil strategii kształtowania zbiorów filologii romańskiej.
The aim of this article is to present the characteristics of collecting books in a philological library, which is treated as the basic workshop of academic research in the Institute of Modern Languages, but its target users are not only philologists. How to organize such a workshop, to make appropriate decisions about the collected pieces and to keep the collection up to date? How to exploit new sources of research? These are the main challenges for a librarian involved in the process of collection. The article presents the librarian in a variety of roles, taking into consideration the main development strategy profile of forming the collection of the Romance philology library.

Presented in the translation into Polish, Jacques Chaplain’s review is a fragmentary overview of the three volume monograph by a world-known physicist Emmanuel Desurvire , devoted to his ancestor, Karol Edmund Chojecki (1822–1899). This Polish emigrant of the era of Romanticism, known in France under the pseudonym Charles Edmond, was presented from the side of various, closer or further relationships with the representatives of French culture, science and politics of that time (such as Gustave Flaubert , Goncourt brothers, Pierre Joseph Proudhon or Georges Clemenceau ), as well as his own creative achievements (in the fi elds of playwriting, dramaturgy, publicism and art of translation). Source materials — family archives and other documents that were not printed before, abundantly collected by the French biographer,shed new light on of this interesting person and his vicissitudesof life.

The increasing importance of information in today’s world – especially reliable information – makes knowledge of information resources, both traditional and electronic; the ability to obtain information from various sources and domains of knowledge and the processing, preparation and the presentation of the resources (analysis and synthesis of information) is becoming a higher value, as for employers which are seeking professionals and those looking for specific information. Each year we can observe a growing number of start-ups infobroker companies; also universities that provide education in the fields of library science offer their students a specialization and postgraduate studies in infobrokering. What we can see is rapid development in field of information and knowledge management. In this context, a library worker who is having all of the above competences and skills, moving easily in modern technology continues to be a librarian or he is already a information broker? Or maybe librarianship and infobroker have nothing in common? These are the questions the author will attempt to answer in this article.
Coraz większe znaczenie informacji we współczesnym świecie – zwłaszcza informacji rzetelnej – sprawia, że znajomość zasobów informacyjnych zarówno tradycyjnych, jak i elektronicznych, umiejętność pozyskiwania informacji z różnych źródeł i dziedzin wiedzy oraz przetwarzania, opracowania i odpowiedniego jej przedstawiania (analiza i synteza informacji) zyskuje coraz większą wartość, tak wśród pracodawców poszukujących specjalistów, jak i osób poszukujących konkretnych informacji. Z roku na rok rośnie liczba powstających firm infobrokerskich, uczelnie kształcące na kierunkach bibliotekoznawczych oferują swoim studentom specjalizacje i studia podyplomowe z zakresu infobrokerstwa, gwałtownie rozwija się dziedzina zarządzania informacją i wiedzą. Czy w tym kontekście pracownik biblioteki posiadający wszystkie wymienione wyżej kompetencje i umiejętności, poruszający się z łatwością w nowoczesnych technologiach w dalszym ciągu pozostaje bibliotekarzem czy jest już brokerem informacji? A może bibliotekoznawstwo i infobrokerstwo nie mają ze sobą nic wspólnego? Na te pytania autorka postara się odpowiedzieć w artykule.

In recent years, European Universities have been immersed in the search for formulas that meet the requirements of new management systems, based on the rationalization and assessment of both economic and human resources. Nowadays, the adaptation to these goals is a constant in the implementation of different management models, contributing to suit the patrons’ needs to the new environment: continuous analysis of working procedures, updating of librarian competencies and adjustment of new organizational structures to new methodologies. This paper presents a reflection about the changes that have taken place during the last decade at the Library of the University of Almeria (Spain), since the adoption of a process-oriented management system and the definition of the continuous assessment of working procedures. Concurrently, the abilities of the staff have been adjusted to the new situation, on the basis of the definition of the skills needed for the achievement of the library goals. It is described how new library services have been implemented through the analysis of the patrons’ needs: the Research Support service, or the Services and Resources Assessment service, have been set up in order to make the library budget more effective and rational. Librarians’ skills needed for these activities are analyzed, so the library staff can be appropriately trained, with the main objective of adjusting the Library goals, the librarian capabilities and the University needs through the performance evaluation of each position in this Service.

This year, 2013, marks the 35th anniversary of the death of Dr. Zygmunt Wdowiszewski (1894-1978), an employee of the Central Archives of Historical Records and renowned expert in genealogy and heraldry. Wdowiszewski’s scientific publications include subjects of archival sciences, diplomatics, sigillography and especially genealogy. During several years of work in AGAD he managed to collect archival material that was used for publication of edition of the sources, articles and books, among others monumental The Jagiellons Genealogy (Warsaw, 1968). Wdowiszewski gathered materials for his publications during the queries run in archives and libraries in Poland, as well as, in Austria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. He actively acted in the Polish Heraldic Society, co-editored the journal "Monthly Heraldic" and was the member of Editorial Board of "Numismatic News". The most significant publications of Wdowiszewski’s employment at the Central Archives of Historical Records (1923-1935) include: Unknown Heraldic Records (Krakow 1926), The Bogorias Family in the Middle Ages (Krakow 1928) and Ancestors of Kazimierz Wielki (Warsaw 1936).

This text is a complement to the presented a year ago in the translation into Polish, Jacques Chaplain’s review which is a fragmentary overview of the three volume monograph by a worldknown physicist Emmanuel Desurvire, devoted to his ancestor, Karol Edmund Chojecki (1822−1899). Source materials, meticulously collected by the French biographer — family archives and other documents that were not printed before — enable us to get to know closely this Polish emigrant of the era of Romanticism, known in France under the pseudonym Charles Edmond, inter alia of the side of various, closer or further relationships with the representatives of French culture, science and politics of that time (such as Gustave Flaubert, Georges Sand, Louis Blanc or Georges Clemenceau), as well as his own creative achievements (in the fields of playwriting, dramaturgy, publicism and art of translation) and their twentieth century reception. Desurvire’s work — of impressive size and substantive content — has been currently published for the second time. The second edition, revised and bearing indices is completed with the two-volume supplement.
