Opis:
We assume a three-layer waveguide structure consisting of a dielectric core layer embedded between two left-handed material claddings. The phase and group velocities of surface waves supported by the waveguide structure are investigated. Many interesting features were observed such as normal dispersion behavior in which the effective index increases with the increase in the propagating wave frequency. The phase velocity shows a strong dependence on the wave frequency and decreases with increasing the frequency. It can be enhanced with the increase in the guiding layer thickness. The group velocity peaks at some value of the normalized frequency and then decays.

Opis:
This article presents a theoretical and numerical discussion of the reflection and transmission analysis through a lossy left-handed material slab embedded between two semi-infinite dielectric media. The properties of the lossy left-handed material are given in detail and the required equations for the electromagnetic plane wave propagation are derived to solve the problem. The main important contribution of this article is the characterization of left-handed material that is different from its counterpart known in the literature. After introducing the left-handed material slab, the analytical solution is found for the powers carried by an electromagnetic wave. Then, the reflected, the transmitted, and the loss power are computed in terms of the incidence angle, the frequency, and the slab thickness in the numerical results with the emphasis on the loss factor.

Opis:
In this paper a waveguide structure consisting of a pair of left-handed material (LHM) and dielectric slabs inserted in vacuum is investigated theoretically. Two cases of the LHM are considered, loss-less case and loss case as well as the frequency dependence of permittivity and permeability of it is taken into account. Maxwell's equations are used to determine the electric and magnetic fields of the incident waves at each layer. Snell's law is applied and the boundary conditions are imposed at each layer interface to calculate the reflected, transmitted and loss powers of the structure. Numerical results are illustrated to show the effect of frequency, angle of incidence and LHM thickness on the mentioned powers when the dissipation factor changes. The obtained results are in agreement with the law of conservation of energy.
