Modern implementations of industrial robots require the use of extensive knowledge and novel concepts. To bring real benefits, robotized processes must be analysed in detail. One can now observe an increasing use of lean robotics, a concept that is primarily intended to simplify processes and eliminate inefficient activities. This paper deals with industrial robot task scheduling in the adhesive dispensing process. The first part of the paper presents the modern concept of production process robotisation and reviews the literature on industrial robot task scheduling. After that, the problem of robotic adhesive dispensing on the electronic components of a printed circuit board (PCB) is presented. Another section of the paper describes the scheduling of effective and supporting tasks of the robot in the analysed process with the use of alternative dispatching rules. The determination of a schedule that is optimal in terms of the defined objective made it possible to discuss the results and reach valid conclusions. The study has confirmed that modern concepts are useful for simplifying robotic production processes.

Opis:
The Lean approach refers to the elimination of waste from the value stream. In other words, it excludes any activities which fail to be of any value to the client, thus enabling an organisation to adapt to the growing customer demands while providing high quality products and keeping unit costs under control. The aim of this paper is to assess the possibility of applying the Lean concept in official statistics on the basis of the working conditions survey, which is characterised by an increasing number of the surveyed units and a growing scope of the collected data. The implementation of the Lean concept within the working conditions survey began in 2017 as a pilot project with the aim to reduce the labour intensity that the survey involves. The research methods used in the paper were case study and the Design Science Research. The case study covered the period from 1987 to 2019 and related to the operational areas of the survey, such as its completeness, the number of reporting units and the scope of the collected variables. In order to present the topic in a broader context, additional data were also used, namely the wages and salaries of selected groups of professions, such as IT specialists. The obtained results confirm that the Lean approach is an effective tool applicable in the process of limiting respondent burden. It facilitates the modernisation of the working conditions survey through the elimination of any unnecessary work while maintaining the usefulness of the final results. It may therefore form the foundation for the construction of lean official statistics.

Opis:
Lean Manufacturing is a profound system designed to enhance every manufacturing industry's efficiency by reducing waste through internationally recognized tools and techniques. Enterprises of all sizes and industries strive to adopt Lean Manufacturing (LM) concepts to maximize their resources, such as personnel, facilities, materials, and operating schedules, to be economically effective. There are several models for implementing Lean philosophy in enterprises. The conducted research is aimed at reviewing and conceptualizing the LM system implementation framework in the enterprises in Central and Eastern Europe. The analysis was based on the results of surveys conducted in micro, small, medium and large enterprises, mainly in production, trade and service organizations. As a result, among others, the main premises, methods and benefits of implementing the LM system, thus identifying the specificity of the concept in the context of the size of enterprises and the industry from which they come, were indicated. The originality is the analysis of the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of Lean activities, distinguishing the size of the organization from the group of micro, small, medium and large organizations (MSME). The research results show that the LM implementation model in enterprises from Central and Eastern Europe is based on the Shingo model.
Produkcja szczupła to rozbudowany system zaprojektowany w celu zwiększenia wydajności każdej branży produkcyjnej poprzez redukcję odpadów dzięki uznanym na arenie międzynarodowej narzędziom i technikom. Przedsiębiorstwa niezależnie od wielkości i branży starają się przyjąć koncepcje Lean Manufacturing (LM) , aby zmaksymalizować swoje zasoby, takie jak personel, obiekty, materiały i harmonogramy działania, aby były ekonomicznie efektywne. Istnieje kilka modeli implementacji filozofii Lean w przedsiębiorstwach. Realizowane badania mają na celu dokonanie przeglądu i konceptualizacji ram wdrożeń systemu LM w przedsiębiorstwach w Europie ŚrodkowoWschodniej. Analizę oparto na wynikach z badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych w mikro, małych, średnich i dużych przedsiębiorstwach, głównie w organizacjach produkcyjnych, handlowych i usługowych.

Current fast development requires continuous improvement of employees’ skills and knowledge. Therefore, companies are looking for the best way for improving the employees’ qualifications and understanding of new concepts and tools which have to be implemented in manufacturing areas. One method employs gamification for this purpose. The aim of this paper is to present how gamification can increase the acquisition of knowledge concerning lean manufacturing concept implementation. Gamification is an active learning approach for people who will understand the subject easier by ‘feeling’ and ‘touching’ personally the analysed problems. The research utilized a questionnaire which assessed the game participants’ engagement level. The assessment focused specifically on the participants’ motivation, cognitive processing and social aspects. The participants were also examined before and after the game in order to assess the increase of their understanding of different lean manufacturing topics and tools. Five different games with different groups of participants were played. The results confirmed the hypothesis that gamification has a positive impact on the knowledge acquisition as well as on motivation, cognitive processing and social aspects. Finally, various insights on how to better design, conduct and utilize gamification in the similar technical context are presented.

Lean Supply Chains vs Resilience Supply Chain
Opis:
The progressive unpredictability of socio-economic or biological changes (e.g. the SARS-CoV-2/COVID 19 pandemic), the multi-directional nature of their impact, the variability of intensity, and the uncertainty in estimating potential effects hinders the stable and planned operation of modern supply chains. This irreversible situation proves the high unreliability of existing traditional measuring instruments of classical economics and the methods used so far in the field of management and quality sciences. This article aims to present an exemplary set of expectations towards contemporary supply chains that are particularly relevant to the emerging market challenges in the form of mega-trends of threats and conditions, also those particularly emphasized during the SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 pandemic. It is primarily a pandemic (taken as a critical exogenous factor) resulting in severe “disorders” in supply chains. The actual level of supply chain resilience depends on its inherent characteristics and is termed “vulnerabilities”, while an active supply chain response to emerging “disorders” is treated as its “resilience”. For these reasons, the author proposes a holistic view of the nature of the supply chain system and its processes. The proposed approach, based on the method of interpretative (qualitative) research enriched with the idiographic nomothetic approach, is treated as a creative alternative that does not exclude other possibilities of perception of the supply chain, but, in its intellectual diversity, complements other methods of understanding its system, processes, and logistics management. Such an approach with a dominant hypothetical-inductive character allows for creating a platform for broader scientific discussions, positioning itself in the sphere of simplifying reality or creating a theoretical construct for the possibility of formulating the foundations of the preliminary theory. These considerations lead to the conclusion that such an attempt at a new, broader perspective, both at the emerging threats and vulnerability, is related to the level of risk, demonstrating that the Supply Chain Critical Functionality is a consequence of many different factors, including time, costs, and delays in deliveries. Such a view allows for a more comprehensive systematization of the epistemological layer in the area of directional perception and application of logistics, showing many similarities but also significant differences with phenomena that are characteristic of other areas of logistics application and the perception of the conditions for the functioning of modern supply chains.

Eastern European companies have experienced various and radical transformations, as result of the economic crises and turbulences, which exposed structural weaknesses. In the meantime, long-term challenges - such as globalization, shift of power centers from the national level to international structures or scarcity of resources - intensify. Given this context, it is mandatory for companies to develop strategies aiming at being competitive. The paper aims to propose an exploratory analysis regarding a Swedish-Finnish owned company active in Romania - that was capable to build a strategic vision of its future, to define a plan for change and to implement the necessary measures for the project success. The author has conducted a study and developed a case along a project aiming at continuous improvement (Kaizen) in this company, emphasizing its main results. In order to analyze the project of implementing Kaizen methodology, the research initiative consisted both of primary and secondary research. The paper analyzes the project from the point of view of economic situation of the company and environment, time constraints, budget limitations, technical level/quality performance and risks. The central finding is that concept-oriented projects run by an advanced-country company could succeed in a less economically developed and culturally different country - even in turbulent periods and not even in highly dynamic and technologically advanced industries - if the top management is strongly committed and management team completely involved. The paper concludes with study results, as well as some lessons learnt and managerial implications - useful for future similar projects either within the company under debate or by other organizations in similar circumstances.

The application of the 5S methodology to warehouse management represents an important step for all manufacturing companies, especially for managing products that consist of a large number of components. Moreover, from a lean production point of view, inventory management requires a reduction in inventory wastes in terms of costs, quantities and time of non-added value tasks. Moving towards an Industry 4.0 environment, a deeper understanding of data provided by production processes and supply chain operations is needed: the application of Data Mining techniques can provide valuable support in such an objective. In this context, a procedure aiming at reducing the number and the duration of picking processes in an Automated Storage and Retrieval System. Association Rule Mining is applied for reducing time wasted during the storage and retrieval activities of components and finished products, pursuing the space and material management philosophy expressed by the 5S methodology. The first step of the proposed procedure requires the evaluation of the picking frequency for each component. Historical data are analyzed to extract the association rules describing the sets of components frequently belonging to the same order. Then, the allocation of items in the Automated Storage and Retrieval System is performed considering (a) the association degree, i.e., the confidence of the rule, between the components under analysis and (b) the spatial availability. The main contribution of this work is the development of a versatile procedure for eliminating time waste in the picking processes from an AS/RS. A real-life example of a manufacturing company is also presented to explain the proposed procedure, as well as further research development worthy of investigation.

For many years organizations have been using traditional budgeting for operational planning. Since the 1990s researchers and managers have been announcing their dissatisfaction with budgeting because the traditional approach to budgeting is in opinion of critics too expensive, not aligned with the strategy, inflexible, cumbersome and out of kilter with new management systems. There is a new approach to operational planning that emphasizes the role of adaptation, flexibility, fast respond to market signals and continous help with transformation. There is an analysis of two breakthrough concepts of operational planning: Sales, Operational and Financial Planning (SOFP) and Beyond Budgeting.
