    The object and aim of the undertaken surveys was to assess the modifying impact of a child’s language development (independent variable) on selected areas of their mother’s functioning-the appearance of symptoms of depression, and concentration on the child’s disability (dependent variable). Surveys in a group of the same 30 dyads (mother-child) connected with the Association of Family and Friends of Children with Hearing Impairment in Krosno were conducted in 2007 and repeated after 9 years. Analysis of the test data (n=60) confirmed the hypothesis that the appearance of symptoms of depression in mothers is less frequent and a mother’s perception of a child’s hearing impairment as burdensome decreases alongside the development of a child’s language competence. The article is critical of the results of surveys conducted by other researchers. The authors also analyse other factors, including the Universal Neonatal Hearing Screening Programme, place of residence, quality of specialist treatment and therapy, and the passage of time, which may influence change in the functioning of mothers of children with hearing impairment.

    Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy sfery szkolnej, relacji uczeń–nauczyciel oraz ustnych i pisemnych wypowiedzi uczniów. Uczniowie ze specjalnymi potrzebami edukacyjnymi (SEN) korzystają z bardzo specyficznego sposobu komunikacji. Biorą udział w życiu publicznym, komunikując się ustnie. Jednak ich komunikacja jest ograniczona, nieprecyzyjna i błędna. Przyczyną takich werbalnych nieporozumień nie jest zaniedbanie językowe, lecz brak świadomości niepoprawności w wyrażaniu się. Ich nieświadomość jest tak szeroka, że prowadzi do przypadków mimowolnego humoru, niezamierzonego przez mówcę. W niniejszym artykule analizowano mimowolny humor znaleziony w pisemnych pracach uczniów SEN, a także zachowania językowe będące podstawą takiego humoru.
    This article is a term which also includes words related to school sphere, it is about student–teacher relationships, about oral and written students’ statements. SEN students utilize a very special way of communication. They take part in public life, they communicate in an oral way. However, their communication is limited, inaccurate and erroneous. The cause of such verbal misbehaviour is not due to language negligence but due to unawareness of being incorrect in expressing themselves. Their unawareness is so broad that it leads to cases of involuntary humour, unintended by the speaker. Involuntary humour found in the written works of SEN students has been analysed in this paper as well as the language behaviour as the basis of such involuntary humour.

    The study comprises the presentation of an authorial approach to cultural identity, viewed from the perspective of the communities (consisting of children, parents and teachers) of schools with Polish as the teaching language in Australia and some selected European countries (Austria, France, the Czech Republic). In reference to the culturalistic model of identity, the characteristics of the most frequent identity behaviours of these communities were provided in the ethnic, national, integrative and mixed dimension. The author also indicates the contemporary contexts of identity shaping, which are determined by migration processes and multiculturalism. By formulating the most important conclusions resulting from the research, the need is indicated for implementing intercultural education in schools with Polish as the teaching language. Among other things, this will enhance the shaping of a multidimensional feeling of identity.

    The paper reflects phraseological connections showing non-verbal communica-tional behaviours in their role as tools exerting a strong influence on the language of politics. As a result of the analysis of Janusz Palikot’s weblog clear examples of such impact have been distinguished. The research allowed the verification of a hypothesis according to which phraseological connections showing non-verbal communicational behaviours perform specific roles and therefore phraseological connections are a very effective tool for making an impression and captivating the attention of an audience.

    Artykuł stanowi opracowanie z zakresu czasowników onomatopeicznych w gwarach Śląska, a konkretnie dotyczy leksemów opisujących głosy i zachowania ptaków. Zagadnienie zostało zaprezentowane na tle słowiańskim i w kontekście polszczyzny ogólnej, z uwzględnieniem polszczyzny historycznej (zwłaszcza doby staro- i średniopolskiej). Przytoczone przykłady opowiadają się za tezą o więzi między budową głoskową wyrazu a jego znaczeniem. Zwraca się uwagę na istotną w wypadku onomatopei opozycję u–i (samogłoskom tylnym: u, o, a odpowiada wyobrażenie dużych przedmiotów, a samogłoskom przednim: i, y, e – wyobrażenie małych obiektów). Ważny wydaje się sam fakt odnotowania interesującego zbioru „ptasich” onomatopei, gdyż w polskiej literaturze omawianej tematyce poświęca się stosunkowo niewiele miejsca (przeważają publikacje obcojęzyczne).
    This paper is a study dedicated to onomatopoeic verbs in the Silesian dialect, and specifically, lexemes describing bird sounds and behaviours. The subject has been discussed compared to Slavic languages and in the context of the common Polish language, as well as taking into consideration historical Polish (in particular that in the Old- and Middle Polish era). The provided examples support the thesis that there exists a link between the word’s sound formation and its meaning. There is emphasized the opposition between ‘u’ and ‘i’ which is essential in the case of onomatopoeia (back vowels ‘u’, ‘o’ and ‘a’ are used with reference to large objects, while front vowels ‘i’, ‘y’ and ‘e’ – small objects). Noticing an interesting set of ‘bird-type’ onomatopoeia also seems important, since there is relatively little mention of this phenomena in the Polish literature (foreign studies prevail).

    Technology has provided language learners with opportunities to learn English autonomously. Despite previous studies in the Hungarian context (e.g., Édes 2008; Szőcs 2017), more research on learner autonomy is required in order to find out what might explain university EFL learners’ lack of autonomy and help them become more autonomous. The purpose of this quantitative study was to address the problem by investigating learners’ perceptions of their own and their teachers’ responsibilities in language learning, their perceived abilities and motivation to learn English, their autonomous behaviours outside and inside the classroom, and the relationships between the above variables. The questionnaire was completed by 74 EFL students from a Hungarian university. The data were analysed by SPSS 26.0. The results indicate that in the investigated context, in the EFL learners’ perceptions, teachers were more responsible for their in-class learning than themselves. Nevertheless, the students demonstrated some autonomy both inside and outside class, to an equal extent.
    Rozwój technologii znacząco zwiększył możliwości uczących się w zakresie autonomicznej nauki języka angielskiego. Chociaż jak dotąd przeprowadzono wiele badań nad autonomią ucznia osadzonych w kontekście węgierskim (e.g., Édes 2008; Szőcs 2017), nadal istnieje potrzeba prowadzenia dalszych badań, które wyjaśnią przyczyny braku autonomii wśród studentów uczących się języka angielskiego jako obcego i pomogą wskazać, w jaki sposób można uczynić ich proces uczenia się bardziej autonomicznym. Celem przedstawionego w artykule badania ilościowego było zanalizowanie sygnalizowanego powyżej problemu poprzez zbadanie sposobów postrzegania zadań i odpowiedzialności nauczyciela i uczących się w procesie nauki języka, ich umiejętności, motywacji, zachowań autonomicznych w klasie językowej i poza nią, a także zależności pomiędzy tymi zmiennymi. Kwestionariusz zastosowany w projekcie wypełniło 74 respondentów – studentów węgierskiego uniwersytetu. Zebrane dane zostały zanalizowane za pomocą SPSS 26.0. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, iż w badanym kontekście nauczyciele są postrzegani przez studentów jako osoby bardziej odpowiedzialne za proces uczenia się niż sami uczący się. Niemniej jednak studenci prezentują określone zachowania autonomiczne, obecne w jednakowym stopniu zarówno w środowisku szkolnym, jak i poza nim.
