Opis:
The aim of catechesis is not simply to give information to interlocutors about the Catholic faith. Catechesis seeks to do much more than this, with its ultimate aim being that of putting the human being in communion with Christ. This is achieved through the six tasks of catechesis which need to be deeply embedded in human experiences. The six tasks through which catechesis seeks to achieve its endeavours include: knowledge of the faith, liturgical education, moral formation, formation in prayer and methods of prayer, education for community life and missionary initiation.

The author shows both how to accept the reply proposed by the new evangelization which challenges the present and how to carry it out as part of various catechetical activities of the Church in Poland. First, through the analysis of fundamental papal documents, he determines the character of the new evangelization. Then, he presents a reply of the new evangelization to contemporary problems with reference to Lineamenta prepared for the Synod of Bishops in 2012. He also explains how the catechesis can merge with the new evangelization, and analyses the tasks of catechesis, as described in the General Directory for Catechesis and adapted to Polish conditions.

Opis:
The main goal of this paper is to explicate the meaning of such words as “reason”, ”knowledge” and “faith.” In addition, some relationships between these notions are analysed. Two attitudes can be distinguished: “faith — reason/knowledge” and “reason/knowledge – faith”. In the first case faith is initial, but a believer can take a rational (intellectual) effort to analyse what faith is. The second attitude is realised in the rational search to find faith. Many different types of arguments for the sentence “God exists” have been invented over years. These arguments have been the tools used in the cases of both attitudes. The arguments are analysed and discussed. The notion of argument is related to the notion of persuasion. Some different situa- tions can be distinguished: a claim is rightly argued and somebody is persuaded by this claim; a claim is rightly argued, but somebody is not persuaded; a claim is not rightly argued, but some- body is persuaded by such a claim (e.g. by an influential leader); and a claim is not rightly argued and somebody is not persuaded. The attitude “faith — reason/knowledge” (a religious attitude) is existential and practical. It con- sists of some components. One of them is a religious knowledge (doctrine). If a believer confesses his or her faith using the official (institutional) text — called in Latin Credo (The Creed) — then really they believe and accept a set of rational religious beliefs, which belong to the religious knowledge (doctrine). A religious faith, understood as God’s influence, is acknowledged as the basis for such an act of believing and accepting. So the religious attitude consists of a religious faith, beliefs, emotions and also free choice (decision, acceptance). The act of an acceptance does not only concern beliefs. A believer also ac- cepts moral and religious rules (principles). This is the type of morality motivated by religion. A re- ligious attitude is the rational, theoretical and practical synthesis of all these components.

Opis:
This article offers a reading of Jacques Derrida’s account of “religion” and “life” in his seminal essay “Faith and Knowledge.” Applying Derrida’s aporetic structure of “X without X” to his remarks on religion and life in “Faith and Knowledge,” this article suggests that underlying Derrida’s endeavor to “think religion abstractly” is a radical re-conception not only of religion as “religion without religion” but moreover a re-imagination of life as “life without life” that breaks away from the traditional metaphysical understandings of life and religion.

Opis:
Preview: Almost twenty-five years have passed after the publication of Jacques Derrida’s 1996 seminal essay, “Faith and Knowledge: Religion at the Limits of Reason Alone,” one of the most important, but also most enigmatic post-secular texts of late modernity. Six articles in this issue are devoted directly to Derrida’s essay. The other two can also be read along them as dealing with broadly conceived post-secular issues. They all can be brought under the traditional heading of “faith and knowledge” – simultaneously in recognition of Derrida’s title and in opening a wider perspective on fides et ratio today (a few decades after the famous 1994 Capri seminar on religion). Derrida participated in the seminar with his 2000 essay (Glauben und Wissen), on the same subject, along with the equally famous intervention of Jürgen Habermas. The main theme of Derrida’s take on the confrontation between fides and ratio is the analysis of the relation between modern philosophy/knowledge and modern religion/faith: a complex co-dependence which challenges Hegel’s conviction that philosophy had managed to sublate religion completely and allowed for the survival of its most valuable contents in a new rational form. Pace Martin Hägglund’s thesis, (according to which Derrida’s philosophy should be classified as “radical atheism” in the Hegelian vein), the essays in this volume present Derrida’s thinking on religion as far more ambivalent, leaning toward not so much atheism as radical iconoclasm which does not annul the idea of divinity, but rather hides it away from sight.

Opis:
For centuries, the search for truth has been one of the most important tasks for universities and academia. Truth has been the foundation of these institutions. Knowing the truth is a unique spiritual joy (gaudium veritatis). The role of the university in the modern world is not only to observe the events and comment upon them, but also to search for truth and serve humanity. The service of truth and humanity requires crossing the borders of individual disciplines. The dialogue between science and faith can grow creatively in such a way as to overcome the restrictions imposed and open up to the full potential of the combination. Thus faith by its nature requires that its object be understood with the aid of reason, and reason seeking the full truth opens up to what faith can present. Faith enters into human life and knowledge not in order to abolish reason's autonomy, nor to limit its scope for action. Faith cannot therefore lead to some form of depreciation of reason. These two realities - faith and reason - intertwine and complement each other, while each has its own space in which it becomes real.

Opis:
At the turn of the 20th and 21st century, religiosity in Poland varies so much that we can talk about the appearance of a new form of spirituality. It is a continuous process, but trying as an object of sociological research because of the diversity of attitudes towards institutionalized religion. We can formulate the assumption that both the process of secularisation and desecularisation are observed in the area of behaviour, emotions and aspirations to the knowledge of the order existing in the world surrounding the human. Post-modern spirituality is a desire to know the truth in the reasons for the existence of reality, understood in a deterministic or indeterministic manner. Deterministic beliefs about governance in the world have religious dimension that has a direct relationship to faith in God or impersonal supernatural forces. The indeterministic conviction about the order existing in the world results from the assumption that it is humanity who establishes this order, and it is on its knowledge, inquisitiveness and wisdom based on experience that the discovery of objective truth depends. A discussion on these two forms of post-modern spirituality, referred to as sophia and logos, is the subject of the analysis contained in this paper. The entire analysis takes into account only the axiological and normative system of post-modern religiosity and spirituality.

Opis:
In these remarks I make the attempt to present the issue of the relation between the scientific knowledge and religious faith. It is being discussed since many centuries. In the Middle Ages it was also called the “two truths”. Nowadays it is called however as the two magisteria. The name had been proposed by the American evultionary biologist Stephen J. Gould. In his proposition it is linked to the NOMA (Non-Overlapping Magisteria) principle. It met with critique from the side of those scholars who, just as Richard Dawkins, share the view that there’s only one magisteria and it is made by science with no space for religious faith. Reservations had also been made by those scholars who, just as Andrew Newberg, do agree on the existence of two magisteria, but they should  complete each other and they are convinced that with the passing of time they will do so. I have critical remarks on both of those two views. I see however the positive side of the intentions of Gould and Newberg.
