    The article takes stock of the past fifty years Catholic-Orthodox dialogue. They appoint them two events ecumenical especially important to him, it is the meeting of Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras I (1964) and Francis Pope and the Patriarch Bartholomew in Jerusalem (2014). The outline shows a gradual process of division between the Churches of East and West. More specifically discusses the course of contemporary dialogue, focusing on the key issues agreed, as reflected in jointly agreed by the partners of dialogue documents. There also omits the most contentious issues that still prevent full communion between the two Churches. In the end, it shows how important the dialogue was to meet Pope Francis and the Patriarch Bartholomew I in Jerusalem in 2014, even though his rank was much lower than the meeting of heads of Churches in 1964.

    Artykuł podejmuje temat eklezjologii Kościoła lokalnego i synodalności. Oba tematy są obecne w teologii katolickiej od czasów Soboru Watykańskiego, który położył fundament pod eklezjologię Kościoła lokalnego/partykularnego, kolegialność biskupów i synodalność. Eklezjologia ta w okresie posoborowym została rozwinięta zarówno na płaszczyźnie teoretycznej jak i praktycznej, nie brakuje jednak teologów, którzy uważają, że w czasie pontyfikatu Jana Pawła II nastąpił powrót do eklezjologii uniwersalistycznej, o czym miałyby świadczyć dokumenty publikowane przez Kurię Rzymską, a zwłaszcza Communionis notio.Nauczanie papieża Franciszka na temat synodalności i konieczności wzmocnienia Kościoła na poziomie lokalnym i regionalnym wychodzi naprzeciw postulatom tych teologów, którzy uważają, że III rozdział Konstytucji Lumen gentium nie został dotąd we właściwy sposób wprowadzony w życie. Papież Franciszek podkreśla bowiem, że synodalność, to konstytutywny wymiar Kościoła, dlatego to, czego domaga się od nas Pan, w pewnym sensie jest już w całości zawarte w słowie „synod”.
    The article deals with the ecclesiology of the local Church and synodality. Both topics have been present in Catholic theology since the time of the Second Vatican Council, which laid the foundation for the ecclesiology of the local/particular Church, collegiality of bishops and synodality. This ecclesiology was developed both theoretically and practically in the post-conciliar period, but there are some theologians who believe that during the pontificate of John Paul II there was a return to the universalist ecclesiology, as evidenced by the documents published by the Roman Curia, especially Communionis notio. Pope’s Francis teaching on synodality and strengthening the Church at local and regional levels addresses the demands of those theologians who believe that Chapter III of the Lumen Gentium Constitution has not yet been properly implemented. The Pope emphasizes, that synodality is a constitutive dimension of the Church and therefore what the Lord is asking of us is already in some sense fully present in the word “synod” itself.

    Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie dialogu ekumenicznego prowadzonego przez papieża Franciszka. Ujęty temat został przedstawiony w kluczu chronologicznym. Poprzez kolejne lata posługi ojca świętego na Stolicy św. Piotra Franciszek uczestniczył w wielu spotkaniach i wydarzeniach o charakterze ekumenicznym, niejednokrotnie sam był inicjatorem takich wydarzeń. Autor przedstawia te ekumeniczne wydarzenia, w których brał udział papież z przedstawicielami przeróżnych Kościołów i wspólnot chrześcijańskich. Prawosławia, wspólnot protestanckich, Kościołów Wschodu i Zachodu, które miały miejsce niejednokrotnie podczas podróży zagranicznych papieża i przy okazji różnych wydarzeń, wizyt i spotkań. Autor stara się wydobyć charakterystyczne spojrzenie papieża na zagadnienie jedności chrześcijan, myśli i wątki, do których papież często powraca. Dokonanie takiego przedstawienia i syntezy ma na celu, ukazanie zaangażowania papieża Franciszka w dialog ekumeniczny, przedstawienie jak ojciec święty rozumie dążenie do jedności, w jakim kluczu go podejmuje, jakie wiąże z nim oczekiwania i jakie stawia przed nim cele.
    This article addresses the issue of the ecumenical dialogue led by Pope Francis. The subject is presented in chronological order. During his years of service as the Holy See, Francis, St. Peter’s successor, has participated in many meetings and events of an ecumenical nature and was the initiator of several of them. The author presents the ecumenical events in which the Pope participated along with representatives of various Churches and Christian communities. Meetings with the Orthodox Church, Protestant communities, and the Eastern and Western Churches have taken place many times during the Pope’s foreign travels and on the occasion of various events and visits. The author tries to bring out the pope’s characteristic views on the issue of Christian unity, including the thoughts and topics to which he often mentions. This presentation and synthesis aims, to show Pope Francis’ commitment to ecumenical dialogue, presenting how the Holy Father understands this striving for unity, the key he undertakes to do so and what his expectations and goals are.

II Sobór Watykański miał przełomowe znaczenie w relacjach katolicko-prawosławnych. Jego następstwem były znaczące gesty pojednania czynione przez Kościoły. Katolicko-prawosławny dialog teologiczny jest jednym z najważniejszych rezultatów wspólnego ekumenicznego zaangażowania. Artykuł omawia główne kwestie tego dialogu, nie unikając tematów najtrudniejszych: uniatyzmu i prymatu papieskiego. Rozważa 011 możliwość syntezy katolickiej teologii prymatu i prawosławnej teologii soborowości jako obiecującą perspektywę dalszego dialogu.
    The article is focused on the analysis of the history of the ecumenical dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches. It also shows its main themes, achievements, difficulties and perspectives. The Second Vatican Council was a breakthrough in Catholic-Orthodox relations. In the aftermath of the Council significant gestures of reconciliation have been made by the Churches. The Catholic-Orthodox theological dialogue has been one of the most important results of this shared commitment to ecumenism. The article discusses the key issues of the dialogue, without avoiding the most difficult questions: uniatism and papal primacy. It considers a possibility of synthesis of the Catholic theology of primacy and the Orthodox theology of conciliarity (synodality) as a promising prospect of further dialogue.

    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest prezentacja ważniejszych przyczyn trudności w katolicko-prawosławnym dialogu teologicznym na forum światowym. Temat został rozwinięty w czterech częściach. Najpierw zwrócono uwagę na odmienną świadomość podziału w katolicyzmie i w prawosławiu. Następnie dokonano ogólnej prezentacji wybranych aspektów katolicko-prawosławnego „dialogu miłości” i „dialogu prawdy”. W trzeciej części omówiono uwarunkowania początków dialogu teologicznego między obydwoma Kościołami. W końcu odniesiono się do kluczowych problemów natury eklezjologicznej, które pojawiły się w toku dialogu, takich jak uznanie kościelnego statusu partnerów dialogu, rozumienie kategorii „Kościołów siostrzanych” i stosunek do kwestii „uniatyzmu”. Ostatecznie stwierdzono, że katolicko-prawosławny dialog teologiczny jest dialogiem trudnym. Istniejące trudności dialogowe nie muszą jednak prowadzić do zniechęcenia, ale wręcz przeciwnie – mogą stać się impulsem do pogłębienia i ożywienia katolickoprawosławnego dialogu teologicznego.
    The aim of this article is to present the essential causes of the difficulties in the theological dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church in the world. The topic has been dealt upon in four parts. First, the author is drawing the reader’s attention to the fact that the awareness of the disunion differs in these two Churches. Next, the author is making a general presentation of selected aspects of the “dialogue of love” and the “dialogue of truth” between Roman Catholicism and Orthodoxy. In Part 3, the author is discussing the circumstances of the beginnings of the theological dialogue between them. At the end, he is referring to the key ecclesiological problems which appeared in the course of the dialogue such as accepting the ecclesial status of the dialogue partner, understanding the category of “Sister Churches”, and attitude to the issue of “Uniatism”. Finally, the author states that the theological Catholic-Orthodox dialogue is a difficult one. However, the existing difficulties in the dialogue do not have to lead to discouragement, but – quite the contrary – they may become an incentive to deepen and invigorate the theological dialogue the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church.
