Opis:
Background. Exercise has been recognized to improve functional limitation and pain in knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, exercise has also been reported to induce exercise-related knee pain. This study aimed to compare the effect of Tai Chi and jogging on knee pain in healthy and related factors. Material and methods. This cross-sectional study involved male and female 180 participants aged 40-60-years. The participant consisted of Tai Chi (n=60), jogging (n= 60), and sedentary (n=60) as control. Weight height and body mass index (BMI) were measured. The pain was evaluated using The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Risk factors of knee OA were included. ANOVA followed with post hoc test, Chi-square, Pearson and Spearman correlation, and logistic regression were applied to compute statistical analysis tests. Results. There are 4 participants (2.5%) with the WOMAC score index at high risk of knee OA. Seventy-six participants (63%) engaged in Tai Chi and jogging had knee pain. The possible risk factors of knee pain, which significantly correlated with knee pain were age, weight, BMI, family history of rheumatoid arthritis, and spine alignment. A linear regression indicated both Tai Chi and jogging did not significant different compared to control (OR 1.23, CI 95% 0.59-2.25, p=0.58 and OR 0.69, CI 95% 0.32-1.47, p=0.34, respectively) Conclusion. The incidence of knee pain in Tai Chi and jogging is quite high. However, the WOMAC score index is mostly normal. Tai Chi tends to aggravate knee pain than jogging in people with risk factors.

The aim of article is analysis of headlines of texts published on portal Treningbiegacza.pl. Information titles are blended with advertising and promotional. There are a lot of language games, modifications of idioms, rhetorical questions, quotes and hints and elements of specialistic vocabulary. Titles predominate motivating healthy style life and rational nutrition, taking up of challenges or shopping of concrete products. Pragmatic function is more important than information.

Opis:
Introduction. Both walking and its faster, running, consist of cyclical subsequent phases of swing and support; however, they differ in their time proportions as well as magnitude of acting forces. There is a lack of studies concerning the longterm consequences of repeated jogging cycles on the function of feet and, above all, on their permanent impact on the shape of foot arches. Objectives. The objective of this study was to answer the question whether regular jogging changes the shape of the transverse and medial longitudinal arches of the feet. Materials and method. The research material consisted of 96 women with an average age of 26.57, and included 50 actively jogging women, and 46 of non-joggers. The study was performed with the use of EMED-SF force platform. The plantar surface of the foot was divided into 10 regions according to Cavanagh, for which peak pressure and contact time were established. Two indicators were defined: metatarsal bone pressure distribution pattern acc. to Kantali, and longitudinal arch index acc. to Cavanagh. Results. The data obtained revealed more frequent occurrence of the greatest pressure under the centrally located metatarsal heads (lack of functional foot transverse arch) among the female joggers, compared with the non-joggers. Moreover, the findings indicate the higher frequency of medial longitudinal foot arch flattening among female runners, with a great deal of consistency between both feet, whereas results for the control group show asymmetrical medial arch shapes with right foot propensity to normal arch shape and left foot tendency for excessive arch. Conclusion. The observed differences in feet arch shapes between female joggers and non-joggers indicate the influence of jogging on feet functional adaptations.

Opis:
This article is about selected issues in women’s sports, and above all the modest participation of women in so-called leisure sports. Statistical data concerning Poland and other countries (particularly Western Europe) is presented. The fashion for jogging, which is currently being seen in Poland as well, is analyzed. The author’s own research, done in 2013 and involving 865 participants in the Łodź ‘I Care About My Health’ Marathon, documents the smallness of women’s interest in participating in marathon struggles. On the basis of the information collected in the study’s survey questionnaires, it was possible for the author to create a socio-demographic portrait of the female Polish long-distance runner. It was also possible to note the sociologically interesting and elucidating difference between men and women in the sphere of training and in their running careers/biographies
