Opis:
In the work a numerical method of dissolving the Poisson equation in an electrostatically formed Quantum Point Contact (QPC) is described. Such a device is based on the structure called ISIS (Inverted Semiconductor Insulator Semiconductor). This structure was proposed in 1991 by Kastner [1] who made single electron transistor in it. In this paper the Poisson equation is solved by means of boundary elements method [2] with functions of the single layer potential [3] whose result provides potential distributions of the QPC device. The electronic properties of the QPC model are found by the use of Green functions method [4]. The interaction between structure and two leads is described by self-energy method [5]. The QPC conductance is calculated with the help of Landauer formula, after the Green’s function corresponding to device Hamiltonian is evaluated.

The aim of the following paper is to discuss a present situation of ISIS, in a post-caliphate period. By analyzing group’s activity in the Middle East and Sahel, the author tries to answer the question whether it has already been dead or not. The study employed qualitative research tools. The findings are derived from the critical literature and online sources (reports, statistics) review, and, also, from the author’s research in the form of in-depth interviews (anonymous and not anonymous) conducted around the world with military and non-military experts from governmental and nongovernmental institutions. Maybe to a lesser extent, but ISIS has been still active in the Middle East, especially in such regions as Iraq and Syria. As for the African continent, it has been developing there by recruiting more and more people and conducting terrorist attacks on a great scale. In conclusion, contrary to popular belief, ISIS has not died; but, as many sources prove, it has just moved to Africa. Together with other jihadi terrorist organisations, it is not only thriving on the African continent, but most of all, it is completely destabilizing some areas there, still being able to reach other parts of the world.
Celem poniższego artykułu jest opis obecnej sytuacji ISIS, po utracie kalifatu, poprzez analizę jego aktywności na Bliskim Wschodzie oraz w Afryce subsaharyjskiej (Sahelu). Autor postara się odpowiedzieć na pytanie czy ISIS rzeczywiście zostało pokonane. Badania przeprowadzono głównie za pomocą jakościowych narzędzi badawczych. Mianowicie, autor korzysta z dogłębnego przeglądu i analizy literatury oraz źródeł internetowych (raporty, statystyki, dokumenty rządowe, artykuły). Kolejnym istotnym źródłem informacji, są autorskie badania w formie dogłębnych wywiadów eksperckich przeprowadzonych w kilku różnych państwach w kluczowych dla autora instytucjach, w kręgach cywilnych oraz wojskowych. Wnioski z badań doprowadziły do konkluzji, iż być może w mniejszym stopniu, lecz ISIS bez wątpienia nadal pozostaje aktywną komórką terrorystyczną na Bliskim Wschodzie, np. w Iraku lub Syrii. Natomiast jeśli chodzi o Afrykę, ISIS rozwija tam swą strukturę, ciągle przeprowadzając ataki, gównie w północno-zachodnich państwach Sahelu. Podsumowując, w przeciwieństwie do powszechnej opinii, ISIS nie zostało pokonane, ale jak dowodzi wiele źródeł – po prostu przeniosło większość swej terrorystycznej aktywności do Afryki. Stamtąd, wspólnie z innymi dżihadystycznymi grupami, nie tylko destabilizuje subsaharyjską część kontynentu, ale również kwitnie, rozwija się oraz jest w stanie dosięgnąć także inne części świata.

Poland is regarded as a country relatively free from Islamic terrorist threat. According to official statements, the four-level terrorism threat scale assessed the terrorism threat in Poland as low (‘zero’). The Islamic minority living in Poland is small and very specific, connected with the historical background of the country and well integrated. For years, relations with most of the Islamic countries were good, or even very good, until the beginning of the XX century when Poland got involved in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and became a member of the anti-ISIS coalition. That might have attracted the attention of Al-Qaeda and ISIS to the country and its citizens as possible targets of attacks. Surprisingly, 20 to 40 Polish citizens went to Iraq or Syria to fight as foreign fighters (FTFs). More than 10 per cent of Polish criminals wanted by the Interpol is charged with participation in the terrorist organization (ISIS). The article aims to present the relations between this Central European country and the jihadist terrorist organization and to reverse the common belief that Poland has no links to ISIS and no reasons to regard the organization as its serious problem.

Nowadays, thanks to information published on TV, the Internet, radio or in the press, there is broad understanding of the phenomenon of disinformation as a tool for image creation. Since 2001, after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, one can see that the media have been a serious threat in the hands of terrorists. Reactions from public opinion have shown to terrorist organizations how important the role of the media is and how they can be used in their own propaganda (disinformation) activities. The media activity of the Islamic State is richer and more advanced in comparison with that provided by Al-Qaeda.

Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na rosnące znaczenie kobiet w organizacjach terrorystycznych, których rola do tej pory – ze względu na ich status – była niedoceniana. Zgromadzony w artykule materiał obejmuje opis wybranych motywów i technik werbunkowych stosowanych przez ugrupowanie terrorystyczne, jakim jest Islamskie Państwo Iraku i Syrii (ISIS), zwane również tzw. Państwem Islamskim. Cechy, jakie powinny posiadać przyszłe terrorystki, pokazują, że potrafią one walczyć i być bardziej skuteczne w niektórych działaniach niż mężczyźni, dzięki czemu ich działania mogą przynieść korzyści dla tzw. Państwa Islamskiego. Szerokie wykorzystanie kobiet, w obecnej sytuacji tej organizacji terrorystycznej, może okazać się dla niej kluczowe w kwestii przetrwania. Kobiety są wśród terrorystów nie tylko matkami i żonami, ale potrafią zbierać informacje, współdziałać w atakach terrorystycznych w celu odwrócenia uwagi, pracować w służbach porządkowych, dostarczać broń oraz żywność walczącym bojownikom. Są również znakomitymi łącznikami w Internecie, gdzie docierają do zwolenników chcących wesprzeć tę organizację. Spełniają się jako umiejętne rekruterki do grup bojowych. Ostatnie badania pokazują, że kobiety będąc członkami wirtualnej społeczności, sprawdzają się jako element spajający sieci terrorystyczne, ponieważ łatwiej rozwiązują konflikty. Należy również pamiętać, że indoktrynowane i umiejętnie zachęcone do działania kobiety potrafią dokonywać zamachów samobójczych przy użyciu różnych materiałów wybuchowych, co przekracza zwyczajowe pojęcie bojownika jako mężczyzny.
This article aims to draw attention to an increasing role of women in terrorist organizations. Their participation was underestimated due to women’s position. The gathered information lists incentives and techniques of sourcing women to terrorist organization such as the Islamic State. Predispositions of future female terrorists prove that they can fight and they can be more effective in some of their actions than their male fellows, which may lead to the IS’s significant benefits. Versatile exploitation of females in present situation may prove to be crucial for the IS further existence. In terrorists’ hands women are not only wives and mothers but can also gather information, partake in terrorist attacks in order to divert attention, work in maintenance forces, secretly deliver weapons and food to fighting members of the IS. Moreover, they are excellent Internet liaisons, where they reach people inclined to support the organization. They are also good recruiters to fighting groups. Latest research shows that women who are members of virtual societies prove to be very effective as terrorists groups bonding factor due to their ability to solve problems. We ought to remember that when indoctrinated and motivated they can perform suicide attacks with the use of variety of explosives, which exceeds the usual notion of a fighter as a male.

Celem artykułu jest wyjaśnienie procesów, które wpływają na zaangażowanie kobiet w działalność terrorystyczną w szeregach międzynarodowych organizacji dżihadystycznych. Mimo iż działalność kobiet w ugrupowaniach terrorystycznych jest widoczna od wielu lat, to jednak istnieje potrzeba rozpoznania dynamiki płci w procesie radykalizacji. Niniejszy artykuł zawiera aspekty teoretyczne związane z pojęciem radykalizacji i przedstawia wynikający z tego procesu etap rekrutacji, który jest jego niezbędnym elementem. Ponadto, wykazano przesłanki radykalizacji postaw i zachowań kobiet, w tym czynniki indywidualne, czynniki przyciągające i popychające do udziału w ataku terrorystycznym.
The aim of this article is to explain the processes that influence women's involvement in terrorist activities in the ranks of international jihadist organizations. Although the activity of women in terrorist groups has been visible for many years, there is a need to recognize gender dynamics in the process of radicalization. This article contains theoretical aspects related to the presentation of the concept of radicalization and the recruitment stage resulting from this process, which is a necessary element. Moreover, indications of the radicalization of women's attitudes and behawior were demonstrated, including individual factors, factors attracting and pushing them to participate in a terrorist attack.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie sytuacji kobiet w  kalifacie ISIS i w strukturach Państwa Islamskiego przez pryzmat arabskojęzycznych doniesień medialnych opublikowanych na stronach internetowych serwisów informacyjnych. W artykule autorka przedstawia obraz kobiet w Państwie Islamskim ukazany w arabskich oraz zachodnich mediach. O ile część z nich przypisuje kobietom marginalne role gospodyń domowych, matek i żon, i w ten sposób przedstawia ich rzeczywistość w tym kalifacie, o tyle inne doniesienia skupiają się na aktywnym zaangażowaniu kobiet w działalność organizacji. Najwięcej przywołanych artykułów pochodzi z 2019 r. Wynika to z tego, że wraz z upadkiem kalifatu ISIS wiele mediów zaczęło dokonywać rozliczeń i podsumowań działalności terrorystycznej Państwa Islamskiego.
The aim of this article is to present the situation of women in the caliphate and in the structures of ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ar. Ad-Dawla al-Islāmiyya fῑal-’Irāq wa aš-Šām) through the prism of Arabic-language media reports published on websites information services. In the article, the author presents the media image of women in ISIS showed by the Arabic and Western media. While some of them assign marginal roles to women as housewives, mothers and wives, and thus present their reality in this caliphate, there are also other media reports focusing on the active involvement of women in the organization’s activities. Most of the articles are from 2019. This is due to the fact that with the fall of the caliphate, many media began to make some kind of accounts and summaries of the activities of the terrorist organization ISIS.

The article concerns European volunteers travelling to Iraq and Syria to participate in armed jihad. It includes an analysis of propaganda materials prepared for potential ISIS fighters from Europe and the broadly understood West and the characterisation of the type of motives leading to the decision to travel to the territories occupied by the so-called Islamic State (the Caliphate). The theoretical system of reference was based on push-pull model combined with the cost-benefit theory which allowed to analyse this phenomenon in the context of the most popular theories of migration.
