Opis:
This article presents the results of research studies on the possibilities of application of natural zeolite-mordenite for the reduction of nitrogen oxide. Various kinds of metal ions were added to the zeolite samples using the ion-exchange method. The effect of metal contents was shown for the mordenite and related to their catalytic properties. The catalytic properties of Cu-, Co-, Ni- were compared for NO reduction with methane. High nitric oxide conversions were observed for copper and cobalt-mordenite, especially in the temperature range between 400 and 500 C degree. Copper- and cobaltmordenite catalysts showed higher activities and selectivities than catalysts composed of nickel-exchanged mordenite.

Opis:
The paper concerns the polarization effects in gradient index MMI sensor structures made by ion K+–Na+ exchange. It has been shown both experimentally and based on the numerical calculation that for the K+–Na+ ion exchanged MMI structures, propagation conditions of light in multimode section vary considerably for each polarization. There are presented the possibilities of using this effect in application to gas sensing. Analyzed sensor structures are covered by WO3 absorbing nanolayers. Numerical analyses of MMI sensor are performed and modal attenuation coefficients are determined. The comparison between operation characteristics obtained for the TE and TM polarization is presented.

Opis:
Lean Burn gasoline engines are receiving increasing application because of their potential of improved fuel economy. The conventional three-way converter used in gasoline engines controls effectively the levels of CO and HC, but it displays poor conversion in harmful NOx emission. This study has investigated the use of different materials with metal additives as support for effective NOx control in gasoline engines. In this work, flyash, which is relatively abundant and inexpensive, has been used as a replacement for expensive materials. Development of Catalysts from waste materials is an effective means to enhance the value of the waste. In the present work, X-Zeolite was synthesized from Coal Fly ash. 13-X zeolite was purchased from market. By the process of exchanging Na+ ions present in these zeolites with copper, Silver and Iron metal ions separately, six catalysts were prepared. Investigations were carried out on the 3 cylinder, 4-stroke, water cooled Maruthi Omni Gasoline Engine with a displacement volume of 796 cc and coupled with eddy current dynamometer. The packed catalyst bed was housed in a 100 mm diameter cylindrical pipe and is connected near to the exhaust manifold. AVL Di-gas analyser is used to measure the NOx, CO, HC, CO2, O2 emissions. Experiments were conducted at various loads from no load to maximum load without catalytic converter and then using the Ag-X, Ag-13X, Fe-X , Fe-13X, Ni -X and Ni -13X zeolite catalytic converters. The result reveals that in house made Ag-X , Fe-X and Ni -X Catalysts reduce emission at all levels of load conditions. Ag-X catalyst gives better conversion than Fe-X catalyst and Ni-X catalyst.

Opis:
This article presents a numerical model of field-assisted Ag+–Na+ ion exchange in glass, used to determine Ag+ ion concentration contours in cross-sections of channel waveguides. Space charge density was used as a modeling parameter, with different values adopted separately under the mask and in the region of the mask window. Based on the results of simulations, it can be stated that the space charge distribution under the mask has a decisive influence on the diffusion range of Ag+ ions into the glass and on the shape of silver ion concentration contours corresponding to the maximum range of Ag+ ions diffusion. Charge generated within the diffusive structure influences the shape of silver ion concentration contours near the mask’s edge and affects the thickness of the polarized layer under the mask within the waveguide’s optical structure. Modeling results indicate a significant influence of factors affecting space charge density distribution in glass on the results of forming channel waveguides in the field-assisted process.

Opis:
This article presents the research results concerning the possibilities of natural zeolite-ferrierite application for the reduction of nitrogen oxide. H-FER forms were modified by Cu+2, Co+2, Mn+2, Ni+2 using an ion exchange procedure. The effect of metal contents was shown for the ferrierite matrices and related to their catalytic properties. The catalytic properties of Cu-, Co-Ni-, and Mn- were compared for NO reduction with methane. High NO conversion was observed for copper and cobalt-ferrierite catalysts, especially in the temperature range 400 and 500oC. It was found that copper- and cobalt-ferrierite catalysts have higher activity and N2 selectivity than the catalysts composed of nickel and manganese doped on ferrierite. Moreover, the nickel and manganese containing catalysts produced more nitrous oxide than nitrogen. The presence of both copper and cobalt species seems to be an indispensable condition for a large activity and selectivity in the NO reduction.
