Opis:
Internet of Things (IoT) is an IT concept consisting in connecting material objects both together and to the internet. This term is complicated to define. Most people associate this term with smartphones or computers, but the world of IoT is definitely wider. IoT was used for the first time in 1999 by Kevin Ashton, who is an expert in technical solutions, but it took more than a decade for people to take this idea seriously. Currently, almost all of the elements surrounding us can be equipped with a chip that allows them to connect to the Internet. The idea of the IoT is that it should encompass all the items that can be connected to the global network. This article firstly discusses issues related to the low-power wide-area LoRaWAN network, which was created for the needs of communication with IoT. Next, the network architecture and its characteristic features are described, followed by a list of available transmission channels for individual regions and description of components of expressions allowing to select the transmission parameters for the application requirements. Next, the article describes practical implementation of IoT with the use of LoRaWAN standard on the example of a system for archiving impulse readings from gas meter index of a bellows gas meter. Finally, this article describes the construction of the device and the principle of its operation. Most importantly, the results of the test aimed at checking the correctness of data transmission from the pulse transmitter to the network server, proving the correct operation of the system, were given in this article. This article also presents an example of the implementation for the module built aimed at the optimization of gas consumption. The results of checking the maximum range of the system built were also given. This correctness of data transmission at a distance of 690 meters in urban areas and 915 meters in the area with single-family houses was found.

The basic idea of is the Internet of Things is presence around us of a variety of things – such as RFID tags, sensors, actuators, mobile phones, etc. – which are able to interact with each other and cooperate with their neighbors to reach common goals. Semantic oriented IoT visions have also been proposed. The number of items involved in the future Internet is destined to become extremely high. Therefore, issues pertaining how to represent, store, interconnect, search, and organize information generated by the IoT will become very challenging. In this context, semantic technologies will play a key role. And creative approaches to visualizing data – humans are far better than computers at seeing patterns –frequently prove integral to the process of creating knowledge. From a privacy perspective, IoT is challenging because it operates in private settings, like homes, and presents an attack target that is harder to secure.

Opis:
Cloud computing is a major pattern for large data storage and analytics. The combination of cloud computing and IoT can enable the resource sharing more efficiently than individually handling them. In distributed systems, the resources are termed as cloud services and handled in a centralized way. However, new challenges arise when integrating cloud for IoT. This paper presents the architecture for integrating of cloud computing for Internet of Things and its issues. Cloud computing has long been recognized as a paradigm for big data storage and analytics. The combination of cloud computing and IoT can enable ubiquitous sensing services and powerful processing of sensing data streams beyond the capability of individual “things”, thus stimulating innovations in both fields. With the trend going on in ubiquitous computing, everything is going to be connected to the Internet and its data will be used for various progressive purposes, creating not only information from it, but also, knowledge and even wisdom. Internet of Things (IoT) becoming so pervasive that it is becoming important to integrate it with cloud computing because of the amount of data IoT's could generate and their requirement to have the privilege of virtual resources utilization and storage capacity, but also, to make it possible to create more usefulness from the data generated by IoT's and develop smart applications for the users. For example, cloud platforms allow the sensing data to be stored and used intelligently for smart monitoring and actuation with the smart devices. Novel data fusion algorithms, machine learning methods, and artificial intelligence techniques can be implemented and run centralized or distributed on the cloud to achieve automated decision making. These will boost the development of new applications such as smart cities, grids, and transportation systems.

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology is an ideal tool for implementing IoT (Internet of Things) applications, as it consumes little power and provides wireless communication. There are many applications using this technology already available on the market. These products are classified as personal applications while using the BLE-supported tablets or smartphones for transmitting data and are not institutional. There are numerous studies showing that the number of IoT sensors and devices will increase rapidly. However, personal approaches cannot manage a large number of devices. In this study, a BLE gateway device which interconnects BLE and WiFi networks was developed. This device is also capable of transmitting IoT node information to a server or cloud on the Internet. The proposed design uses only BLE and WiFi stack chips and does not require an additional microcontroller unit for running gateway applications. This makes the design cost-effective and power efficient, which are important for the IoT environment.

According to eMarketer forecasts for the year 2015, there are 3.07 billion of Internet users worldwide, what constitutes the 42.4% penetration ratio of this medium, whereas there are 15 billion of already plugged devices. Moreover, this number will increase rapidly, as 200 billion of such items are expected by the end of the year 2020. The potential economic impact by the growth annual ratio of the Internet of Things (IoT) is estimated to achieve between $2.7 to $6.2 trillion by 2025. The largest influence is anticipated for healthcare and manufacturing sectors. The main aim of this article is to present the innovative approach of the IoT idea, ennumerate juxtaposition of its opportunities and threats as well as to indicate its inner potential still being dormant. In this regard the paper will present exemplifications of smart objects and the idea of sensors and locators, that underlie creation of intelligent shopping, communication integration, effective buying process, automatic alerts, personalised, intelligent packaging or profiled advertisement in VOD. Therefore the Internet of Things exerts an indisputable positive influence on changing the paradigm of the market, product, offer, communication, and business management. As unfortunately “every rose has its thorn”, similar regularity applies to the IoT, in relation to cyber attacks wich involve application of force to capture, disrupt, deny, degrade, destroy, or manipulate computing and information resources due to low security level. The remote access to smart devices may though lead to potential malicious attacks on employees, health information leaks, and attacks on key executives in order to influence or control the financial stability of the organisation. Therefore, the article will be an attempt to compare the potential opportunities and threats arising from the IoT idea.

Opis:
This paper focuses on management of sensor networks and Internet of Things. Two alternative architectures for service management in IoT and sensor networks are analyzed. The first one is based on Open Service Gateway (OSGi) framework and Remote Services for OSGi (R-OSGi) bundle. The second one extends Representational State Transfer (REST) paradigm. The analysis confirms that these two architectures meet the requirements of both sensor networks and IoT management. However, to bypass the disadvantages of these architectures, the new one is proposed being a combination of the analyzed architectures. In our proposition, the OSGi framework is applied to manage local sensor networks and RESTbased architecture allows for managing complex services in Internet of Things. The RESTlet OSGi module integrates the OSGi management system for sensor networks with REST-based management of Internet of Things.

In this paper, we describe secure gateway for Internet of Things (IoT) devices with internal AAA mechanism, implemented to connect IoT sensors with Internet users. Secure gateway described in this paper allows to (1) authenticate each connected device, (2) authorise connection or reconguration performed by the device and (3) account each action. The same applies to Internet users who want to connect, download data from or upload data to an IoT device. Secure Gateway with internal AAA mechanism could be used in Smart Cities environments and in other IoT deployments where security is a critical concern. The mechanism presented in this paper is a new concept and has been practically validated in Polish national research network PL-LAB2020.

The Internet of Things (IoT) consist of smart connected devices in homes, businesses and cities that has the ability communicate over an Internet without human-to-human or human-to-computer involvement. IoT communication standards and platforms has a high potential for a wide range of applications in different domains. Collecting the data by a large number of sensors, is a challenging task because of many open issues. Effective collection and distribution are crucial for classes of smart city services such as environmental monitoring, public security, transportation, and other. Unfortunately there are many connection gaps between the raw sensor data and the information context that are needed by high-level services and applications. Utilization of some Semantic Web standards provide better integration of sensor with applications, but still is far from being solved. Therefore, we have analyzed selected standards, protocols, and architectures and have suggested some enhancements into “common semantics” model.

A Cognitive Internet of Things (CIoT) is a brand of Internet of Things (IoT) with cognitive and agreeable mechanisms, which are incorporated to advance performance and accomplish insights into real world environments. CIoT can perceive present system’s conditions, analyze the apparent information, make smart choices, and increase the network performance. In this survey paper, we present classifications of data perception techniques used in CIoT. This paper also compares the data perception works against energy consumption, network life-time, resource allocation, and throughput, as well as quality of data and delay. In addition, simulation tools for IoT and their performance are discussed. Finally, we provide the model of cognitive agent-based data perception in CIoT for future research and development, which ensures the network performance in terms of reliability, energy efficient, accuracy, scalable, fault tolerant, and quality of data.

Opis:
The main objective of this paper is to identify the benefits and challenges of the Internet of Things (IoT) application in the accounting field of organisations. The study adopts a questionnaire and an interview technique in a company from the road transport sector. The questionnaire research sample includes 151 accounting practitioners and students. Data are collected through the use of an online survey. A principal axis factor analysis with the Promax rotation is conducted to assess the underlying structure for the items of the questionnaire. The research outcomes indicate that, in the opinion of accountants and students, the IoT adoption enables the organisation to perform enhanced reporting analysis based on a large amount of data gained through sensors (mean = 3.98), access to data through cloud computing (3.97), and accounting process automation (3.95). From the point of view of managers, the most important benefit is the increase in employee productivity and asset management. The respondents indicate the following aspects as challenges: the creation of infrastructure for the adoption of new technology, which accounted for 40.22% of the variance, and cyber security, loss of privacy (7.23% of the explained variance). The findings reveal benefits and challenges for IoT adoption and could support managers in deploying new technology in their organisations. The research limitation concerns the fact that this study focuses on respondents from Poland.
