Opis:
The objective of the article is to present some valid arguments for a “new” didactics of early foreign language teaching. The foreign language teaching in Poland has become an obligatory part of the curriculum in kindergartens and pre-schools (for 5 years-olds), and from the beginning of Sept. 2017 it will also concern all 3 and 4 years old children in pre-school education. Didactic principles and materials for teaching foreign languages that are applied in kindergartens are designed mainly for grade 1-3 of the primary school and cannot be automatically adopted for the earlier educational stages. The didactic process must be founded on linguistic and glottodidactic study of natural language acquisition, bilingualism and bilingual education. In the article some most important differences between the language learning process in the primary school and kindergarten are discussed and conclusions for the shaping of the language teaching and learning situation in pre-schools are drawn. In the last part some selected examples of the “new” teaching forms and activities will be presented.

Opis:
This study investigated the consistency of a measure of integrative motivation in the prediction of achievement in English as a foreign language in 18 samples of Polish school students. The results are shown to have implications for concerns expressed that integrative motivation might not be appropriate to the acquisition of English because it is a global language and moreover that other factors such as the gender of the student or the environment of the class might also influence its predictability. Results of a hierarchical linear modeling analysis indicated that for the older samples, integrative motivation was a consistent predictor of grades in English, unaffected by either the gender of the student or class environment acting as covariates. Comparable results were obtained for the younger samples except that student gender also contributed to the prediction of grades in English. Examination of the correlations of the elements of the integrative motivation score with English grades demonstrated that the aggregate score is the more consistent correlate from sample to sample than the elements themselves. Such results lead to the hypothesis that integrative motivation is a multi-dimensional construct and different aspects of the motivational complex come into play for each individual. That is, two individuals can hold the same level of integrative motivation and thus attain the same level of achievement but one might be higher in some elements and lower in others than another individual, resulting in consistent correlations of the aggregate but less so for the elements.

Opis:
Integrative Gestalt pedagogy is a comprehensive pedagogy that based on Gestalt theory (-philosophy, -psychology, -therapy, -pedagogy), humanistic psychology and pedagogy. In the 1980s its holistic approach was used by Dr Albert Höfer to reform the concept of the Austrian religious education. Höfer succeeded in designing a complete Gestalt-pedagogical model of learning and teaching, whose uniqueness can be seen in its approaches that encourage student’s personal growth. In accordance with Jesus’s teaching it looks at students in a loving and caring way, talking to them in their everyday situations and opening them to religious experience and God’s working in their lives. This has been confirmed by empirical research.

Opis:
The role of basic emotions in SLA has been underestimated in both research and pedagogy. The present article examines 10 positive emotions (joy, gratitude, serenity, interest, hope, pride, amusement, inspiration, awe, and love) and 9 negative emotions (anger, contempt, disgust, embarrassment, guilt, hate, sadness, feeling scared, and being stressed). The emotions are correlated with core variables chosen from three well-known models of L2 motivation: Gardner’s integrative motive, Clément’s social-contextual model, and Dörnyei’s L2 self system. Respondents came from Italian secondary schools, and most participants were from monolingual Italian speaking homes. They described their motivation and emotion with respect to learning German in a region of Italy (South Tyrol) that features high levels of contact between Italians and Germans. Results show that positive emotions are consistently and strongly correlated with motivation-related variables. Correlations involving negative emotions are weaker and less consistently implicated in motivation. The positivity ratio, that is, the relative prevalence of positive over negative emotion, showed strong correlations with all of the motivation constructs. Regression analysis supports the conclusion that a variety of emotions, not just one or two key ones, are implicated in L2 motivation processes in this high-contact context.

Opis:
The paper deals with problems in the process of educating deaf pupils. In the face of systemic changes and discussions among representatives of the scientific community and practitioners in the social sciences about an education model for deaf pupils, a system-based triad was established: special education–integrated education–inclusive educa- tion, within which attempts are made to reach solutions that would be beneficial to all of the actors involved in these processes. The analy- sis presents an evaluation of each of the educational systems, not only of experts from among hearing people, but also of hearing parents and those most concerned with their education, i.e., deaf people. The changes presented in this paper and related to the process of educating deaf pupils indicate a broad context of determinants in the implementation of the triad system.
