The state and future of scientific disciplines is largely determined by their background, numerous importantevents, discoveries, achievements, but above all, eminent experts, people of science. Thanks to these people, it was possible to conduct many analyses and research programs, which were reflected in multiple scientific studies. In the case of Polish social pedagogy, Helena Radlińska, Aleksander Kamiński and Ryszard Wroczyński have undoubtedly become such persons. On the other hand, Polish sociology of education should be strongly associated, among others, with Florian Znaniecki, Józef Chałasiński and Stanisław Kowalski. In this article, I do not describe all the issues that are the focus of both subdisciplines. However, I would like to underline a few issues that I will present synthetically and which are personally important and interesting from the point of view of a social educator, namely: What are the sources of the emergence of social pedagogy as a scientific discipline and what associates it with the sociology of education; What priorities are imposed on social pedagogy and sociology of upbringing by the transformation of modern civilization and how are new social problems shaped in this context; finally how educational sociology has been an aid to social pedagogy and vice versa.

W pracy przedstawiono źródła inspiracji intelektualnych wybranych znanych polskich ekonomistów. Do identyfikacji tych źródeł wykorzystano pamiętniki, wspomnienia i wywiady, które zawierają informacje o rozwoju intelektualnym ekonomistów w latach szkolnych, podczas studiów i w początkach kariery naukowej. Najczęściej ekonomiści wskazują środowisko szkoły średniej, samodzielną lekturę wybranych dzieł, studia i środowisko naukowe jako źródła inspiracji intelektualnych. Na uwagę zasługuje niezmienność źródeł w różnych pokoleniach ekonomistów. Ważnym, wskazywanym przez wybranych polskich ekonomistów źródłem inspiracji intelektualnych jest kontakt z literaturą w ramach samokształcenia oraz studiów wyższych. Przedmiotem lektury były prace z zakresu socjologii, filozofii, historii i ekonomii. Kontakt z wybitną osobowością podczas studiów to kluczowa inspiracja intelektualna ekonomistów w przyszłym rozwoju naukowym i zawodowym.
The article presents the sources of intellectual inspirations of selected, well-known Polish economists. Diaries, memories and interviews were used to identify these sources which contain information about the intellectual development of economists in school years, during the studies and at the beginning of a scientific career. Most often, economists indicate the secondary school environment, independent reading of selected works, the studies and the scientific community as sources of intellectual inspiration. Noteworthy is the invariability of sources in various generations of economists. The source of important intellectual inspiration, indicated by selected Polish economists, is contact with literature within self-study and higher education. Works in the field of sociology, philosophy, history and economics were the subject of reading. Contact with outstanding personality during studies is a key intellectual inspiration of economists in future scientific and professional development.

Preview: At times, the COVID-19 Pandemic has spent words of their value. We academic philosophers have written many articles in relation to it, and plenty of social media posts, as well as other discourse on it. It all seems effete to stop the flames we have kindled that led to this global tragedy. Our civilizational unsustainability and instability have borne down on us the last year and a half, and at times it seems to reveal a dire fall. There is a sense of failing to avoid a pandemic-onium all too visible and nearing as we descend to the depths. Like the Devil’s palace, this place is also of our own creation. Whether this zeitgeist is but the Calvinist vision of perennial despair reappearing its fantastical face or indeed a portent of the times to come, we cannot but at time see through the eyes of the rebel fallen angel, with smoldering sorrow and anger for our world, if not heaven, well lost. It becomes hard in such moments to have any hope that one’s own work at self and communal cultivation is anywhere near enough. It sometimes feels as if all we can do is fiddle as Rome burns. Are we participating in our own downfall? Even if not in the confines of academic philosophy, and doing broad based cultivation work in philosophy as a way of life (PWL), how can one not but feel helpless and wrathful about our own situation, for the countless dead by government inaction to the virus, corporate greed and entitlement to protect vaccine formulas, hubristic populace quests for superior conspiratorial knowledge, growing authoritarianism, unchecked white supremacist fascism, and biological devastation caused by an unsustainable late-capitalistic, hyper abstracted, global economy? Those feelings seem righteously luciferian. However, our global wisdom traditions, with nuance, challenge us against mere smoldering anger, or at least not without guidance. To go further, our PWL wisdom traditions have long exhorted us to strive for ataraxia (a state of serene calm and clarity), and even to amor fati (love [our] fate), especially at the worst of times.

Reflections have been made on inspirations based on nature, which regenerate the identity of architecture. The analysis was placed in the perspective from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. It was noticed that the crises of architecture and urbanism that were taking place at that time were overcome thanks on concrete inspirations by nature, adequate to current knowledge. The „returns to nature”, which suggest a return to the sources and the „turns towards nature” suggesting a reversal from existing situation towards other, recognized as natural. They also indicate the different aspects of nature, that can be included in two trends of inspirations: formal, based on the stylization of the shapes of nature and rational, consisting in the simplicity and the logic of nature visible in its constructions, processes and principles of functioning. The nature in such a broad sense appears as an inexhaustible source of original inspirations. The indicated examples, despite formal differences, have a similar force of regenerating the identity of architecture in situations of exhausting its forms and their inadequacy to current needs. The conclusions attempt to generalize the phenomenon described.
W artykule podjęto refleksję nad inspiracjami naturą odradzającymi tożsamość architektury. Analizę osadzono w perspektywie od XVIII do początku XXI wieku. Zauważono, że kryzysy architektury i urbanistyki mające wtedy miejsce, były pokonywane w oparciu o konkretne inspiracje naturą adekwatne do ówczesnej wiedzy. Omówione powroty do natury i zwroty ku naturze sugerują odwrót od istniejącej sytuacji w stronę inną, kojarzoną z przyrodą. Wskazują także na odmienne aspekty natury, które dają się ująć w dwa nurty inspiracji: formalny, oparty na stylizowaniu kształtów natury oraz racjonalny, polegający na prostocie i logice natury widocznej w jej konstrukcjach, procesach i zasadach funkcjonowania. Natura w tak szerokim ujęciu jawi się jako niewyczerpane źródło oryginalnych inspiracji. Wskazane przykłady, pomimo różnic formalnych, mają podobną siłę odradzania tożsamości architektury w sytuacjach wyczerpania jej form i ich nieadekwatności do aktualnych potrzeb. We wnioskach podjęto próbę uogólnienia opisanego zjawiska.

Współczesna szkoła katolicka jest przedmiotem zwyczajnego nauczania Papieża Franciszka. Również w oficjalnych dokumentach zawarte są ważne inspiracje. Papież podkreśla aktualność szkoły katolickiej, zwłaszcza jej roli w integralnym wychowaniu młodzieży. Równocześnie wzywa do zaangażowania się w nową ewangelizację, do otwarcia się na ubogich, do dialogu z odmiennymi kulturami, do wierności wartościom chrześcijańskim. Nauczanie Franciszka również inspiruje do pogłębienia wiary, udziału w ekologii integralnej i praktyki miłosierdzia. Papież stawia na jakość szkoły katolickiej.
Modern Catholic school is subject of the ordinary teaching of Pope Francis. There are also important inspirations included in official documents. Pope emphasizes the topicality of the Catholic school, especially its role in the integral education of the young. Simultaneously, he calls for the commitment to the new evangelization, to be open to the poor, to dialogue with different cultures, to be faithful to Christian values. Pope Francis teachings also inspire to deepen individuals’ faith, take an integral part in the ecology together with practice of charity. Pope focuses on quality of Catholic school.

ISSN 0239-3271.The aim of this article is to assess what kind of possible inspirations for economic thinking one can expect from Confucianism. A direct challenge was issued by the work of Kazimierz Poznański who claims that Confucianism is a source of a new paradigm for economics, the one based on ethics. So the question posed in this paper is, to what extent Confucian economics, as presented by Poznański, can become an alternative view counterposed to the western liberal economics, allegedly devoid of ethical contents. To answer that question one should first analyse the relation between economics and ethics within traditional, western, liberal approach. The author of this article posits that ethical component is present within this approach and, at the same time, Confucian values are not that different as far as the goals of economic life are concerned. What is more, one can find some conceptual affinities between Confucius and Adam Smith.

The author begins with underscoring Norwid’s defence of the intellectual achievements of the Middle Ages in part XII of Rzecz o wolności słowa. It prompts her to speculate about the importance and trajectories of reflections on the Middle Ages in Norwid’s poetry in general. Subsequently, Halkiewicz-Sojak casts the topic against the background concerning the romantic fascination with the Medieval tradition and specifically Polish difficulties in adapting the European (northern) variation of that current. On the one hand, Norwid’s considerations upon Godfred’s attitudes in Tasso’s Jersusalem Delivered and Cervantes’s Don Quixote lead to the conclusion that a nineteenth-century poet can only repeat Cervantes’s character’s gestures; therefore, for the author the Medieval props will be the book and the candle rather than a continuation of chivalrous adventures. On the other hand, Norwid – especially in the early drama mystery plays – conjures up poetic worlds of the Slavic Middle Ages and focuses his attention on the Christian initiation of the Slavdom.

Le texte présenté est une tentative de synthèse des orientations intellectuelles françaises influençant le régionalisme polonais. Des phénomènes que l’on peut qualifier d’annonciateurs du régionalisme propre – le développement de la recherche sur l’histoire de localités et de territoires particuliers, le folklore, les travaux géographiques et linguistiques, le développement d’un journalisme local ou d’activités artistiques et éducatives – s’inscrivent dans un large courant d’activités patriotiques, ce qui constitue une différence essentielle entre les conditions dans lesquelles le régionalisme s’est développé en Pologne et en France au tournant du XXe siècle. Indépendamment de ce qui précède, les courants scientifiques, politiques et culturels français ont été suivis de près en Pologne, gagnant ici de nombreux partisans, également parmi les régionalistes.
Prezentowany tekst stanowi próbę bilansu francuskich orientacji intelektualnych mających wpływ na regionalizm polski. Zjawiska, które traktować można jako zwiastujące właściwy regionalizm – rozwój badan nad dziejami poszczególnych miejscowości i ziem, prace folklorystyczne, geograficzne, literaturoznawcze, językoznawcze, rozwój muzeów i prasy lokalnej, aktywność artystyczna i oświatowa – wpisane były w szeroki nurt działań patriotycznych, co zasadniczo różnicuje warunki w jakich regionalizm rozwijał się w Polsce i we Francji na przełomie XIX i XX w. Niezależnie od tego, francuskie prądy naukowe, polityczne i kulturalne śledzone były nad Wisłą, znajdując tu licznych zwolenników także wśród regionalistów.
The text presented is an attempt at summarizing French intellectual orientations influencing Polish regionalism. Phenomena that can be treated as heralding regionalism per se – the development of research on the history of particular localities and lands, folklore, geographic and linguistic works, development of local journalism or artistic and educational activities – were embedded in a wide stream of patriotic activities, a fact that provides an essential difference between the conditions in which regionalism developed in Poland and France at the turn of the 20th century. Irrespective of the above, French scientific, political and cultural cur-rents were closely followed in Poland, gaining many supporters here, also among regionalists.

Hilbert’s program of formalism was undoubtedly a result of many mathematical, logical, and philosophical factors. The aim of this paper is to indicate some rarely highlighted contexts. One important goal of Hilbert’s program was to prove the consistency of arithmetic. The paper shows that Hilbert did not begin the study of this issue only after the discovery of Russell’s paradox. The issue of the consistency of the arithmetic of real numbers was associated with the discovery - by Burali-Forti and Cantor - of the first set-theoretical antinomy, i.e. the antinomy of the greatest ordinal number. Hilbert, already in 1899, asked whether the set of real numbers - to use Cantor’s terminology - was a consistent collection. He then raised the issue of the consistency of the arithmetic of natural numbers in 1904, after the discovery of Russell’s paradox. Fundamental for Hilbert’s mature program of formalism was the distinction between the finitistic and the infinitisticmathematics. The paper points out that the source of this distinction can be found in Brouwer’s proof-theoretical and constructivist criticism of certain theorems of the classical logic. So significant was the criticism that Hilbert had to take it into account in his formalistic reconstruction of classical mathematics. The result was precisely his distinction between the finitistic and the infinitistic mathematics.

The aim of the article is to show the stages of the development of pre-school education in Poland in the 20th century, which set the directions for further changes in the pre-school area. The article was prepared on the basis of available historical sources in the form of specialist press, guides, and methodological manuals, as well as analysis of the literature on the subject. The work identifies and distinguishes innovative views and methods in the field of former pre-school education, which may constitute a form of contemporary pedagogical inspiration. The aim of this article consciously combines two important aspects, i.e., acquiring historical knowledge and its modern applications. The text discusses the history of pre-school education in Poland in the 20th century and shows its reminiscences in contemporary social and educational space. The text is an attempt to show the importance of pre-school education in the modern system, and drawing the reader’s attention to the achievements of Polish preschool education in the context of changes and needs of society in the area of care for pre-school children. The article is not an exhaustive study, but rather a contribution to considerations in this area.
