Infrared detector technologies engineered from III-V semiconductors such as strained-layer superlattice, quantum well infrared photodetectors, and quantum dot infrared photodetectors provide additional flexibility to engineer bandgap or spectral response cut-offs compared to the historical high-performance detector technology of mercury/cadmium/telluride. The choice of detector cut-off depends upon the sensing application for which the system engineer is attempting to maximize performance within an expected ensemble of operational scenarios that define objects or targets to be detected against specific environmental backgrounds and atmospheric conditions. Sensor performance is typically characterised via one or more metrics that can be modelled or measured experimentally. In this paper, the authors will explore the impact of detector cut-off wavelength with respect to different performance metrics such as noise equivalent temperature difference and expected target detection or identification ranges using analytical models developed for several representative sensing applications encompassing a variety of terrestrial atmospheric conditions in the mid-wave and long-wave infrared wavelength bands. The authors will also report on their review of recently published literature concerning the relationships between cut-off wavelength and the other detector performance characteristics such as quantum efficiency or dark current for a variety of detector technologies.

Opis:
Noise removal in IR (Infra Red) images is very popular in recent years, however the same approach is utilized as for vision images, with no or minor changes. In this work we wanted to show the results of noise removal for selected filters. We focused on investigation of some filters normally used for image processing and their influence to IR image quality. In IR imaging the choice of filter depends mainly on the purpose of the processing, e.g. detection of small objects in complex images, edge and contour detection or removal of non-uniformity of the detector array. The performance of the selected noise reduction filters was evaluated using PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error) quality measure, greater value of the PSNR and lower value of the MAE indicate better noise reduction. The results are shown only for few images from our database which contain over 2000 of IR images.

The infra-red radiation was discovered in 1800 by English astronomer Sir Wiliam Hirchel but practical appl ications could be dated to the beginning of XX century. First advanced scientific investigations, as well as works relating to the military applications of IR technique were carried out during the First World War. We propose a high-quality infrared and visible image fusion method based on a deep wavelet-dense network (WT-DenseNet). The WT-DenseNet includes three network layers, the hybrid feature extraction layer, fusion layer, and image reconstruction layer. The hybrid feature extraction layer is composed of a wavelet and dense network. The wavelet network decomposes the feature map of the visible and infrared images into low-frequency and high-frequency components, respectively. The dense network extracts the salient features. A fusion layer is designed to integrate low-frequency and salient features. Finally, the fusion images are outputted by an image reconstruction layer. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can realize high-quality infrared and visible image fusions, and the performance of the proposed method is better than that of the six recently published fusion methods in terms of contrast and detail performance.

The aim of this project was to study how the particle size and morphology of magnesium powder affect the burning and infrared radiation characteristics of foil-type Mg/PTFE/Viton (MTV) infrared decoys. A long-wavelength thermal imager and an OPAG33 Fourier transform infrared remote-sensing spectrometer were used to characterize the burning and infrared radiation. The results show that the burning rate, burning temperature, and far-infrared radiation intensity of the decoys are improved significantly with decreased particle size. The burning rate, burning temperature, and far-infrared radiation intensity of the flake-like powder are higher than for the spherical powder of the same particle size.

Arc welding is commonly applied in industry. Assessment of the quality of welded joints is one of crucial tasks especially in automated applications. The proposed method can be useful to detection of welding instabilities as well as welded joint defects.

The article presents a method of compression of High Dynamic Range of infrared image and its details enhancement. The method is based on aggregation of partial images with different ranges of pixel values generated using a weighting function. Aggregation of images could be performed according to proposed scheme with use of the optimal algorithm selected by user. Preliminary results shown that the method can reveal previously hidden details in the original image.

The authors report the characteristics of a diffraction-grating-free mid-wavelength infrared InP/In₀.₈₅Ga₀.₁₅As quantum well infrared photodetector focal plane array with a 640 × 512 format and a 15 µm pitch. Combination of a normal incident radiation sensing ability of the high-x InxGa1-xAs quantum wells with a large gain property of the InP barriers led to a diffraction-grating-free quantum well infrared photodetector focal plane array with characteristics displaying great promise to keep the status of the quantum well infrared photodetector as a robust member of the new generation thermal imaging sensor family. The focal plane array exhibited excellent uniformity with noise equivalent temperature difference nonuniformity as low as 10% and a mean noise equivalent temperature difference below 20 mK with f/2 optics at 78 K in the absence of grating. Elimination of the diffraction-grating and large enough conversion efficiency (as high as ~70% at a -3.5 V bias voltage) abolish the bottlenecks of the quantum well infrared photodetector technology for the new generation very small-pitch focal plane arrays.

During the temperature measurements by means of infrared camera the temperature of surrounding elements must be known. In the case of thermovision inspections of the objects exposed to open air space, the surroundings consists of two elements, it is the ground and hypothetical sky surface. The sky temperature measured by long-wave IR camera is of apparent character because it expresses the thermal radiation of the sky within the spectral operational range of this camera i.e. 7.5÷13 μm. The abovementioned spectral range is coincident with so called atmospheric window within which the thermal radiation of the sky is relatively low. The emissivity of atmosphere within this window is low in the central part and high near the limits of the aforementioned range. In relation with the detector characteristic of the IR camera it causes underestimation of the measured sky temperature. This work deals with the analysis of influence of the IR camera detector characteristic on the results of determination of sky temperature and its thermal radiation intensity.

There is comparison shown between the results obtained with differential approach and lock-in approach without sweep and with sweep. The article is focused on the infrared measurement method in the air in small closed areas. This method is based on the visualization of temperature fields on an auxiliary material which is inserted into the non-isothermal air flow in a research area. In small closed spaces where is impossible to put the measuring equipment due to various reasons, it is necessary to visualize the temperature fields through a window. This window must be permeable for infrared radiation of known properties, especially the transmissivity. As an auxiliary material for the visualization of temperature fields in these experiments, the ordinary office paper with high emissivity value was chosen and the viewing window was made of a polyethylene. The presented method for the measurement of temperature fields in the air can be applied mainly in closed spaces where is difficult to situate the infrared camera (due to field of view), in spaces where the infrared camera restricts the flowing air or where is aggressive or too hot environment (a potential damage of infrared camera), etc. In this article the parameter analysis, which is important for a particular application, is performed and an example of temperature fields measurement in closed space is presented. This method can be used in cooling and heating design of means of transport, mostly for cabins of cars and trucks.

This paper predicts qualitatively and quantitatively the near infrared activity of individual minerals in simple and complex mineral associations using mixtures of common alteration minerals found in a copper ore. It was found that spectra dominance in most cases is dependent on any or combination of mineral composition, relative proportion or concentration and/or mineral accessibility or sensitivity to near infrared radiation. The analysis of results also indicated that, in most cases, only freely occurring waste, such as clays (kaolinite and/or muscovite) and calcite, can be targeted for discrimination. In this paper, a strategy for the application of near infrared for preconcentration of copper bearing minerals like chrysocolla and malachite from coarse ore particles was proposed. Other applications also considered in this paper include preconcentration of hematite from associated clays and carbonate waste, and the determination of moisture content in kaolinitic clays.

The presented study concerns development of a facial detection algorithm operating robustly in the thermal infrared spectrum. The paper presents a brief review of existing face detection algorithms, describes the experiment methodology and selected algorithms. For the comparative study of facial detection three methods presenting three different approaches were chosen, namely the Viola-Jones, YOLOv2 and Faster-RCNN. All these algorithms were investigated along with various configurations and parameters and evaluated using three publicly available thermal face datasets. The comparison of the original results of various experiments for the selected algorithms is presented.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono podstawowe informacje na temat możliwości blokady szkodliwego promieniowania podczerwonego na gorących stanowiskach pracy metodami optyki cienkowarstwowej. Obliczono i przeanalizowano konstrukcje cienkowarstwowe pod kątem efektywności blokowania szkodliwego promieniowania. Opracowano technologie wykonywania wybranych konstrukcji filtrów technikami parowania próżniowego. Ponadto porównano właściwości filtrów obecnie dostępnych z nowymi prezentowanymi rozwiązaniami.
This article presents basic information on how to block harmful infrared radiation using optical filters with thin-film coating. Interference structures for efficient blocking of harmful radiation was calculated and analyzed. The construction of new interferencje optical filters against infrared radiation was compared with currently available filters.

This work presents the method of leaks detection in recorded sequence of infrared images. Infrared field measurements were taken on small experimental embankment during flood process simulation. The leak processes took place thru initially dry facility. Getting wet areas were visible in infrared images as lower temperatures part of embankment on its air side. Image processing methods allowed to localize the leak in thermal images, despite the impact of external factors on the measurement and differences in objects emissivity in the observed scene.

The theory infrared energy detection has been described. The attention was focused on phenomena in the pyroelectric detectors. The construction and principles of working has been presented. The infrared detectors are widely used in intruder alarm systems. The conception of infrared detector output signal analysis in application specific integrated circuits has been de scribed.

W artykule przedstawiono zarys teorii błędów i niepewności występujących podczas bezstykowego pomiaru temperatury a pomocą kamery termowizyjnej. Wskazano na różnicę pomiędzy pojęciami błędu i niepewności. Dodatkowo przeprowadzono dyskusję źródeł powstawania błędów i niepewności w tego typu pomiarach. Zaprezentowano wyniki analizy niepewności metodą Monte Carlo dla wybranych warunków pomiaru. Treść artykułu odnosi się do monografii autorów pod tytułem: "Infrared Thermography - errors and uncertainties" będącej aktualnie w druku w wydawnictwie John Wiley & Sons.
In the paper there is presented an outline of the theory of errors and uncertainties for non-contact temperature measurements with an infrared camera. The paper begins with an introduction. In this section, the model of the infrared camera measurement path is described and a difference between the error and uncertainty concept is pointed out. The next section deals with the errors of infrared thermography measurements [1, 3]. In this section an analysis of the source of errors is conducted as well [3, 4]. The exemplary results of the error analysis regarding with the emissivity errors are shown (Figs. 1-3). In Section 3 an uncertainty analysis of the infrared thermography measurements is performed [1-3, 5-12, 14]. The exemplary results of the uncertainty analysis with the Monte Carlo simulations are presented (Figs. 5, 6). These results are obtained for the commonly occurring measurement conditions. The paper ends with conclusions. In this section the quantitative conclusions from the error and uncertainty analysis are drawn. These conclusions can be very useful for thermographers taking the infrared thermography measurements in practical situations. The contents of this paper refers to the authors' monograph entitled "Infrared Thermography - errors and uncertainties", currently printed in John Wiley & Sons.

The article presents a transceiver infrared radiation system developed by the author, in which, apart from a stabilized power supply of transmitting and receiving subsystems, the dedicated software for temperature correction of output signals was also used. The system has two measuring circuits at wavelengths of 860 nm and 950 nm. The paper presents characteristics and measurement uncertainties of the system, determined by means of the reference material. This type of a system can be used in systems for IR transmission or reflection tests, and it can be of help in radiation absorbance studies.
Układy pomiaru tłumienia promieniowania znajdują szerokie zastosowanie w ocenie różnych typów materiałów. Wymagają one stabilnego toru nadawczo-odbiorczego promieniowania. W artykule przedstawiono opracowany układ nadawczo-odbiorczy promieniowania podczerwonego, w którym obok stabilizowanych źródeł zasilania podukładów, nadawczego i odbiorczego, zastosowano programową korekcję temperaturową sygnałów wyjściowych. Układ posiada dwa tory pomiarowe o długościach fal 860 i 950 nm. W artykule zaprezentowano charakterystyki i niepewności pomiarowe układu wyznaczone przy wykorzystaniu referencyjnego materiału. Układ tego typu może być zastosowany w systemach badania przepuszczalności lub odbicia światła podczerwonego, czy badaniach absorbancji promieniowania.

In the past decade, there has been significant progress in development of the colloidal quantum dot (CQD) photodetectors. The QCD’s potential advantages include: cheap and easy fabrications, size-tuneable across wide infrared spectral region, and direct coating on silicon electronics for imaging, which potentially reduces array cost and offers new modifications like flexible infrared detectors. The performance of CQD high operating temperature (HOT) photodetectors is lower in comparison with detectors traditionally available on the global market (InGaAs, HgCdTe and type-II superlattices). In several papers their performance is compared with the semiempirical rule, “Rule 07” (specified in 2007) for P-on-n HgCdTe photodiodes. However, at present stage of technology, the fully-depleted background limited HgCdTe photodiodes can achieve the level of room-temperature dark current considerably lower than predicted by Rule 07. In this paper, the performance of HOT CQD photodetectors is compared with that predicted for depleted P-i-N HgCdTe photodiodes. Theoretical estimations are collated with experimental data for both HgCdTe photodiodes and CQD detectors. The presented estimates provide further encouragement for achieving low-cost and high performance MWIR and LWIR HgCdTe focal plane arrays operating in HOT conditions.

The paper presents the principle of operation of a new night-shooting target. Because this target requires a covering that reflects the infrared radiation flux generated by the reflector from its surface, testing of different variants of the cover and the shape of the target surface has been carried out. Emissivity is a physical parameter characterizing the radiant properties of real bodies. The emissivity coefficient of extruded aluminum sheet samples covered with a layer of green colored aluminum oxide was determined. The aluminum oxide layer was applied using two different technologies being galvanic and anodizing.

Various chemical treatments of GaSb and related compounds has been studied with the aim to develop procedures of polishing of GaSb substrates, preparation of their surfaces for deposition of metal and dielectric films, for liquid phase epitaxial growth, and finally fabrication of passivating coatings on surfaces of GaSb and its alloys. A broad spectrum of surface characterisation techniques has been used to analyse morphology of the surface and its chemical composition after each of the treatments applied. This allowed us to elaborate a complete set of technological procedures necessary for the fabrication of the efficient GaSb- based photo- and light emitting diodes operating in the midi-infrared wavelength range.

Recent trends in infrared detectors are towards large, electronically addressed two-dimensional arrays and higher operating temperature. This will lead both to higher performance and to smaller, lighter and more affordable IR systems. Cooling requirements are the main obstacle to the more widespread use of infrared systems based on semiconductor photodetectors, particularly in the civil field. Fundamental limitations to performance of IR photodetectors are due to the statistical nature of generation-recombination processes and resulting noise. Ways to overcome the limitations are discussed including use of the optical immersion and optical resonant cavity. Finally, the progress in a mode of operation is presented, in which the thermal generation of carriers is suppressed by the use of stationary depletion of narrow gap semiconductors. The practical near room temperature narrow gap semiconductor photodetectors are reported. Competitive technologies based on Schottky barrier devices and low dimensional solids are considered briefly.

Trueness and precision of a method for determining the water content (%) of food and chemical products based on infrared radiation with a wavelength in the range (2.70÷7.21 μm) was evaluated. The most accurate measurements for food products were obtained when the heat source was a radiant heater with a radiation wavelength of 7.21 μm, a trueness deviation of 0.01%. When heated with radiation with wavelengths (from 3.32 μm to 7.21 μm), the trueness of the measurement ranged (0.03%÷0.13%) for chemical products. The shortest analysis time for food products was found when the analysis was carried out using an IR source with a wavelength of 7.21 μm, while for chemical products, a heat source with a wavelength of 2.70÷7.21 μm was optimal. According to the results of the analysis, the use of IR radiation with a wavelength range of 3.32÷7.21 μm is an alternative for accurate measurements.

W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie badań termowizyjnych w ocenie jakości cieplnej przegród budowlanych. Opisano wymagania w zakresie prowadzenia pomiarów kamerą termowizyjną w budownictwie oraz główne czynniki wpływające na otrzymywane wyniki. Na praktycznych przykładach pokazano analizę badań zestawiając wyniki pomiarów termowizyjnych z obliczeniami. Dla badanych fragmentów przegród budowlanych omówiono występujące defekty i anomalie termiczne.
In the paper principles of using the infrared thermography method in building engineering are presented. The first section contains the introduction to the topic of using thermography in building engineering. Defects of building partitions which can be detected by infrared camera are described. The second section gives a short description of the factors which influence the quality of thermo-grams. According to the authors, the main factors are: infrared camera technical parameters, keeping the rules for performing investigations, knowledge of a building structure, ability of making the computer models of building partition connections which can be used to verify the investigation results. The third section presents a short overview of the investigation procedures used for taking measurements during building diagnostics. In the fourth section a way of taking the fundamental and subsidiary measurement is given. The diagnosed defects and anomalies for all partitions and connections between them are described. Several chosen thermograms made during investigations are shown in Figs. 1, 2, 4 with description of the defects. Verification of the selected ther-mograms was performed with the computer program KOBRA. In the summary some guidelines connected with the way of presenting the results of thermal diagnostics of buildings are given.

The article presents a method for determining the content and temperature on the basis of spectra from remote measurements. The technique uses measurements of a high resolution radiation spectrum that allows the visibility of the individual rotational lines of gases such as CO₂, used here in the range of 2470-2495 cm¯¹. At the same time a new algorithm is applied of pre-processing the spectrum, involving the use of multiple ratios of intensity at several wavenumbers as input to an inverse model based on neural networks. Due to it, the dimensionality of the input can significantly be reduced. Additionally, the data interpreted do not have to be measured in units of spectral radiance. Thus only the calibration of the sensitivity of the spectrometer at various wavelengths is required. The neural models were constructed on the basis of data from the simulation. The proposed method works with a uniform layer of radiating gas for determining the temperature and CO₂ content. For a non-uniform layer it is possible to determine the line-of-sight temperature profile and average gas content. The method can be extended to different spectral ranges and to other gases present in substantial quantities in the exhaust gases of various processes.

In the last decade several papers have announced usefulness of two-dimensional materials for high operating temperature photodetectors covering long wavelength infrared spectral region. Transition metal dichalcogenide photodetectors, such as PdSe₂/MoS₂ and WS₂/HfS₂ heterojunctions, have been shown to achieve record detectivities at room temperature (higher than HgCdTe photodiodes). Under these circumstances, it is reasonable to consider the advantages and disadvantages of two-dimensional materials for infrared detection. This review attempts to answer the question thus posed.

Noise measurement for the design of anti-noise measures is used as a tool to identify and evaluate the existing noise situation. The measurements are carried out in the vicinity of selected roads to demonstrate the need for the design of anti-noise measures or to assess the effectiveness of the measures. Where the measurements are performed for the design, detection and assessment of the effectiveness of a noise protection measure in relation to the protection of public health, such measurements shall be carried out by a person holding a Certificate of Professional Qualification for Qualitative and Quantitative Verification of Environmental Factors to assess their potential impact on health – noise measurement. The paper presents the modelling of the noise exposure using the infrared technology in the given area and the simulation of measures on the main road routes of the model.

Described device stands one of the scientific laboratories equipment of CIiTWTP Center at the University of Rzeszow.

Four infrared spectroscopic techniques - photoacoustic (PAS), diffuse reflectance (DRS), attenuated total reflectance (ATR) and transmission (TS) - were evaluated for the qualitative analysis of the biochar obtained from willow feedstock during pyrolysis. Increase in pyrolysis temperature resulted in more aromatic and carbonaceous structure of biochars. These changes could easily be detected from Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectral differences. The comparison of the spectra obtained by the four FT-IR techniques allowed to conclude that there are differences in the spectra acquired using different IR technique caused by different signal acquisition. PAS and ATR were the best techniques used in order to obtain spectra with smooth and sharp peaks, in contrast to TS, where bands were less-separated. DRS turned out to be the weakest of all techniques, due to poor spectral quality and poor separation of the bands.

The proper modelling of semiconductor device operation with full complexity of many interrelated physical phenomena taking place within its volume is possible only when the material parameters which appear in each part of the self-consistent model are known. Therefore, it is necessary to include in calculations the material composition, temperature, carrier concentration, and wavelength dependences in electrical, thermal, recombination and optical models. In this work we present a complete set of material parameters which we obtained basing mostly on the experimental data found in several dozen publications. To refine the number of equations, we restrict the material list to those which are typically used in edge-emitting lasers and vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers designed for mid-infrared emission.

Used in traditional medicine, infrared characterization of column eluates and elemental analysis of V. amygdalina was carried out to establish preliminary views of the chemical and mineral element composition of the leaf of this plant. In the five pure eluates obtained, we found that they contained saturated aliphatic esters, nitro-groups conjugated with benzene ring, secondary amines/nitrogen heterocycles, 1,3-disubstituted benzene and oxazine/oxazoline fragments, respectively. Moreover, we established that potassium, magnesium and sodium were the major minerals in the leaf, while copper, zinc, iron, nickel, manganese and chromium occurred in trace amounts. Research attention should therefore be focused on this plant for the full exploration and exploitation of its obvious antibiotic and mineral values.

The main causes of human heat loss are convection, conduction, radiation and evaporation. Conductive heat loss is so small that it can be considered alongside convective heat loss. The most characteristic factor of heat loss is radiation. As a result of experimental studies, a graph of air temperature in the work area was plotted showing the mobility of air at different heat capacities of the emitter. There was a significant increase in air temperature in the working area during air flows. The research findings can be used to design infrared heating in industrial buildings.

Copper oxide ore was pre-concentrated using near infrared sensor-based method and classified as product, middling and waste. The product and middling fractions were leached with ammonium chloride reagent. The effect of temperature, ammonium chloride concentration, solid- liquid ratio, stirring speed and particle size experimental variables were investigated. Mineralogical and chemical analysis of the ore fractions indicated that copper content was in accordance with the preconcentration strategy, with the product having a higher concentration than the middling and waste. The rate of copper extraction was found to be higher in the product than in the middling sample which further supports the near infrared classification, QEMSCAN®, X-ray diffraction, SEM mineralogical and X-ray florescence and Inductively coupled plasma Mass spectrometry chemical data. It was revealed that the leaching rate increases with increasing ammonium chloride concentration, temperature and decreasing ore particle size, stirring speed and solid-liquid ratio. Analysis of the experimental data by shrinking core model indicated that the dissolution kinetics follow the heterogeneous reaction model for the chemical control mechanism where the activation energies of 45.9 kJ/mol and 47.5 kJ/mol for product and middling fractions respectively were obtained. Characterization of the residue obtained at optimum leaching condition with X-ray diffraction suggests that copper was selectively leached when compared to the profile of the raw ore. The trace levels of metals associated with abundant X-ray diffraction profiles of residue found in the leachate further confirm the selective leaching process.

W artykule zaprezentowano hybrydową metodę inspekcji w paśmie widzialnym i podczerwieni. W celu eksperymentalnej weryfikacji opracowanej metody zostało wykonane stanowisko badawcze. Do kontroli wizyjnej w paśmie widzialnym został zastosowany sterownik wizyjny z monochromatyczną kamerą CCD i układem panelowych oświetlaczy LED. Do kontroli w zakresie podczerwieni została zastosowana kamera termowizyjna z układem promienników podczerwieni i płytą grzewczą. Przeprowadzono analizę obszarów modelowania procesu inspekcji, uwzględniając możliwości rekonfiguracji stanowiska, stosowane metody badawcze oraz ustawienia parametrów inspekcji. Zaprezentowano analizę wyników eksperymentów dla wytypowanych obiektów z wykorzystaniem opracowanej metody. Przedstawiono obrazy uzyskane z obu torów wizyjnych, efekt nałożenia obrazów oraz wykresy profilowe wzdłuż charakterystycznych linii na termogramach.
The article presents a hybrid optical inspection method in the visible and infrared band. The research stand was fabricated for the experimental verification of the developed method. A vision controller with a monochromatic CCD camera and a system of front LED lighting were used for optical inspection in the visible band. The thermovision camera with a system of infrared lamps and heating plate were used for inspection in the infrared band. The modelling areas of the inspection process were analysed, including features for the reconfiguration of the stand, the research methods applied, and the setting of the inspection parameters. The analysis of the results is presented for selected objects with the use of the developed method. The images from both vision channels and the effect of overlay images and profile charts along representative lines on thermal images are also presented.

Execution of long-term tests on infrared radiation waves requires the use of a stable transceiver circuit for infrared radiation. The unit developed by the authors of this paper is an example of possible instruments that can be used in such tests. The system is composed of a stabilized supply source for a transceiver circuit and a programmed temperature change option for output signals. The tests were carried out for a two-channel radiation transceiver with 860 and 950 nm wavelengths. The results obtained were analysed and their expanded uncertainties were determined for a 99% level of confidence, based on the assumed uncertainty budgets. Standard uncertainties were determined using calculation methods type A and B. After verification, the developed stand can be used to test infrared radiation for two wavelengths. It can also find application in the design of bigger control systems, where it can play the role of a measurement module. The examples of such applications include, inter alia, tests on the transmission and reflection of the infrared light.
Realizacja długookresowych badań monochromatycznej fali promieniowania podczerwonego wymaga stabilnego układu nadawczo-odbiorczego. Jednym z rozwiązań jest opracowany taki układ, w którym obok stabilizowanych źródeł zasilania toru nadawczego i odbiorczego zastosowano programową stabilizację temperaturową jego sygnałów wyjściowych. Przedmiotem badań był dwukanałowy układ nadawczo-odbiorczy promieniowania o długościach fal 860 i 950 nm. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań układu poddano analizie i na podstawie oszacowanych budżetów niepewności wyznaczono ich rozszerzone niepewności o 99% poziomie ufności. Niepewności standardowe wyznaczono z oszacowań metodami typu A i B. Zweryfikowane stanowisko pomiarowe do badania promieniowania podczerwonego o dwóch długościach fal, można wykorzystywać w większych systemach sterowania, w których układ ten pełniłby rolę jednego z modułów pomiarowych. Przykładem takich aplikacji mogą być systemy do badania przepuszczalności lub odbicia światła podczerwonego.

Mid-wavelength infrared detectors and focal plane array based on n-type InAs/InAsSb type- II strained layer superlattice absorbers have achieved excellent performance. In the long and very long wavelength infrared, however, n-type InAs/InAsSb type-II strained layer superlattice detectors are limited by their relatively small absorption coefficients and short growth-direction hole diffusion lengths, and consequently have only been able to achieve modest level of quantum efficiency. The authors present an overview of their progress in exploring complementary barrier infrared detectors that contain p-type InAs/InAsSb type-II strained layer superlattice absorbers for quantum efficiency enhancement. The authors describe some representative results, and also provide additional references for more indepth discussions. Results on InAs/InAsSb type-II strained layer superlattice focal plane arrays for potential NASA applications are also briefly discussed.

This work investigates the potential of InAs/GaSb superlattice detectors for the shortwavelength infrared spectral band. A barrier detector structure was grown by molecular beam epitaxy and devices were fabricated using standard photolithography techniques. Optical and electrical characterisations were carried out and the current limitations were identified. The authors found that the short diffusion length of ~1.8 µm is currently limiting the quantum efficiency (double-pass, no anti-reflection coating) to 43% at 2.8 µm and 200 K. The dark current density is limited by the surface leakage current which shows generation-recombination and diffusion characters below and above 195 K, respectively. By fitting the size dependence of the dark current, the bulk values have been estimated to be 6.57·10ˉ⁶ A/cm² at 200 K and 2.31·10ˉ⁶ A/cm² at 250 K, which is only a factor of 4 and 2, respectively, above the Rule07.

There are many types of natural gas fields including shale formations which are common especially in the St-Lawrence Valley (Canada). Since methane (CH4), the major component of shale gas, is odorless, colorless and highly flammable, in addition of being a greenhouse gas, methane emanations and/or leaks are important to consider for both safety and environmental reasons. On this regard, passive remote sensing represents an interesting approach since it allows characterization of large areas from a safe location. In order to illustrate the potential of passive thermal infrared hyperspectral imaging for research on natural gas, imaging was carried out on a shale gas leak that unexpectedly happened during a geological survey near Hospital Enfant-Jesus (Québec City, Canada) in December 2016. Quantitative methane imaging was carried out based on its unique infrared spectral signature. The results show how this novel technique could be used for advanced research on shale gases.

To reduce heat losses from buildings various methods are used. One of them is applying so called “thermal resistant paints”. These paints can be put in principle on the inner but also on outer surfaces of building external walls. The aforementioned paints are put on a surface in the similar way as other paints in building construction technology and form a thin insulation layer. The acting of this paints consists in causing a noticeable temperature drop within this layer and simultaneously on the wall surface. This work presents the experimental rig, measurement procedures and selected measurement results.

Graphene applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices have been thoroughly and intensively studied since graphene discovery. Thanks to the exceptional electronic and optical properties of graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) materials, they can become promising candidates for infrared and terahertz photodetectors. Quantity of the published papers devoted to 2D materials as sensors is huge. However, authors of these papers address them mainly to researches involved in investigations of 2D materials. In the present paper this topic is treated comprehensively with including both theoretical estimations and many experimental data. At the beginning fundamental properties and performance of graphene-based, as well as alternative 2D materials have been shortly described. Next, the position of 2D material detectors is considered in confrontation with the present stage of infrared and terahertz detectors offered on global market. A new benchmark, so-called “Law 19”, used for prediction of background limited HgCdTe photodiodes operated at near room temperature, is introduced. This law is next treated as the reference for alternative 2D material technologies. The performance comparison concerns the detector responsivity, detectivity and response time. Place of 2D material-based detectors in the near future in a wide infrared detector family is predicted in the final conclusions.

Helicopters play an important role in air-to-ground fire covering and the short-distance air-to-air fights, as well as the anti-tank missions and battlefield force transferring. The detection and survivability of helicopters on a battlefield significantly depends on their infrared emissions level, as well as the methods, equipment and systems used by potential enemy. The automatic detection systems, recognition and identification of flying objects use among other the thermo-detection methods, which rely on detecting the infrared radiation emitted by the tracked object. Furthermore, due to low-altitude and relatively low flight speed, today’s combat assets like missile weapons equipped with infrared guidance systems are one of the most important threats to the helicopters performing combat missions. Especially meaningful in a helicopter aviation is infrared emission by exhaust gases, egressed to the surroundings. Due to high temperature, exhaust gases are a major factor in detectability of a helicopter performing air combat operations. In order to increase the combat effectiveness and survivability of military helicopters, several different types of the infrared suppressor (IRS) have been developed. This paper reviews contemporary developments in this discipline, with particular examples of the infrared signature suppression systems.
Śmigłowce odgrywają niezwykle istotną rolę w krótkodystansowych walkach powietrznych jak również jako wsparcie ogniowe na cele naziemne, szczególnie w trakcie operacji przeciw pojazdom opancerzonym. Wykrywalność oraz żywotność śmigłowców na polu walki istotnie zależy od poziomu emisji podczerwieni emitowanej z ich pokładu jak również od metod, urządzeń i systemów detekcji wykorzystywanych przez przeciwnika. Współczesne systemy wykrywania, rozpoznawania i identyfikacji obiektów latających wykorzystują szereg metod termolokacyjnych, które polegają na wykrywaniu promieniowania podczerwonego emitowanego przez śledzony obiekt. W śmigłowcowej technice lotniczej, szczególnie istotna jest emisja podczerwieni z gazów spalinowych odprowadzanych do otoczenia. Ze względu na ich wysoką temperaturę, gazy spalinowe stanowią główne źródło emisji podczerwieni przez śmigłowiec w locie co w połączeniu ze stosunkowo niską prędkością oraz wysokością wykonywanych manewrów, czyni śmigłowce łatwymi celami dla współczesnych rakiet wyposażonych w głowice samonaprowadzające się na podczerwień. W celu zwiększenia bezpieczeństwa, efektywności oraz żywotności śmigłowców wojskowych wykonujących lotne zadania bojowe, opracowany został szereg metod redukcji poziomu emisji promieniowania podczerwonego. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono przegląd współczesnych osiągnięć w tej dziedzinie wraz z prezentacją systemów maskowania podczerwieni stosowanych we współczesnych śmigłowcach wojskowych.

Passive infrared (IR) suppression device, commonly known as ejector diffuser, is an integral part of the defence system of a ship. The definitive role of passive IR suppressor to counter the IR tracking and locking of the ship has made them indispensable for any combat marine. The gas turbine exhaust gases are the leading heat source on a ship. The exhaust temperature of the gases ranges between 650K-850K. At such temperatures, the ship can be easily detected by the enemy through IR imaging. The role of the ejector diffuser is to (i) lower the gas turbine exhaust gases temperature to the limits (< 450K) such that the IR locking of the marine can be avoided, and (ii) recover static pressure such that the engine performance of the gas turbine is not affected. Ejector diffuser has the ability to entrain ambient air and allow mixing it with the exhaust gases thereby, lowering the temperature of the exhaust gases. However, the mixed exhaust gases temperature depends on the ambient air temperature which under extreme conditions can fluctuate from 273K to 323K. This temperature range can affect the temperature characteristics of an ejector diffuser. The present study undertakes the effect of ambient temperature on the performance of inline-slot ejector diffuser. The ambient temperature (T0) has been varied in the range 273K ≤ T0 ≤ 323K in the step of 10K. It has been found that the mass entrainment increases (≈ 8%) as the ambient temperature decreases. The core temperature at the exit decreases, from 457.58 K to 417.75K, with a decrease in the ambient temperature. However, no significant changes in static pressure recovery.

Obecnie w przemyśle spożywczym poszukuje się innowacyjnych rozwiązań z zakresu monitorowania i kontroli prawidłowości przebiegu procesów produkcyjnych. Nowoczesne techniki powinny charakteryzować się niezawodnością, prostotą obsługi, dokładnością, krótkim czasem detekcji oraz nieinwazyjnością. Wśród tych metod wyróżnić można termowizję, która w sposób bezkontaktowy pozwala na zdalne rejestrowanie rozkładu temperatury na powierzchni badanego obiektu w czasie rzeczywistym. W artykule omówiono podstawy teoretyczne termografii podczerwieni oraz dokonano przeglądu zastosowania techniki termowizyjnej w przemyśle spożywczym.
Nowadays, the food industry is seeking for innovative technological solutions in the field of monitoring and controlling the production processes. Modern techniques should be characterized by reliability, ease of use, accuracy, short detection time and non-invasiveness. Among these methods, infrared thermovision could be distinguished. The thermovision technique allows contactless, remote measurement of objects surface temperature distribution in real time. The article discusses the theoretical basis of infrared thermovision and reviews the use of infrared technology in the food industry.

In this work, we have designed and synthesized the fluorescent probe 1, which was capable to selectively detect fluoride anion (F). More importantly, the probe 1 possessed near-infrared excitation and emission wavelengths (excitation at 650 nm and emission at 695), and the probe solution had changed dramatically from yellow to cyan with the addition of F. In addition, the fluorescence intensity exhibited perfectly positive correlation with concentration of F concentration from 0 to 40 μM (R2 = 0.9972), which offered the important condition for quantitative analysis. The probe 1 owned detection limit of 46 nM. Therefore, this near-infrared probe can be of great benefit for detecting F in practical application.

Zaproponowano zastosować temperaturę, mierzoną metodą termowizyjną, do indywidualnej oceny jakości warystorów. Badania przeprowadzono dla 20 warystorów niskonapięciowych. Wykonano pomiary parametrów elektrycznych i temperatury warystorów przed testami narażeniowymi i po 2 kolejnych cyklach narażeń. Testy narażeniowe zastosowano w celu pogorszenia jakości warystorów. Zaproponowano zasady klasyfikacji badanych warystorów do grup o wysokiej i niskiej jakości na podstawie pomiarów parametrów elektrycznych przed testami. Na podstawie porównania wyników pomiarów parametrów elektrycznych i temperatury wykonanych, przed i po testach narażeniowych, wytypowano temperaturę T warystora, mierzoną po 5 minutach samo-podgrzania, jako wartość umożliwiającą klasyfikację badanego warystora do grup jakościowych. Wartość temperatury T większa niż 40 0C wskazuje, że badany warystor jest niskiej jakości.
The use of thermography displacement (NDT - non-destructive tests) is proposed to assess the quality of individual varistor. Twenty low-voltage varistors were studied where electrical and thermal performance measurements were taken before the stress-tests (part I) and after two subsequent cycles of two-tier stress tests (part III and V, respectively). Stress-tests were used to obtain degradation of the tested varistors (part II and IV, respectively). The following electrical parameters were measured: electric resistance Rp , quality Q, dissipation factor D and leakage current Iupł. The scope of the thermographic study included measurements of the varistors’ temperature within 5 minutes after turning on the power (self-heating) and 5 minutes after turning off the power (cooling). A comparison study was conducted of the classification rules, where varistors were assigned to groups depending on their quality based on either the electrical parameters measured before the stress tests, or their temperature measurements. Varistor’s temperature T, measured after self-heating it up for 5 minutes, was selected as the borderline value on basis of which the selection to the different quality groups was conducted. The temperature T higher than 40 0C indicates that the test specimen is of average or poor quality and should not be used.

Opis:
The development of modern clinical medicine and the truthful medical diagnosis require hard physicochemical data. Furthermore, the social demands for more accurate and collected data, which refer to human health in real conditions and in real time, force the quest for techniques which would be possible to be applied in a broadly understood clinical field. In this article two techniques are described. A high vacuum technique which is an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and a functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), which might be applied in vivo condition. For the both techniques, the results pointing their applicability in the clinical and modern biochemical research are described.
