Opis:
Research background: Despite the increased interest in business model innovation (BMI) in the last 20 years, the current research landscape still lacks empirical efforts aimed at investigating the underexplored link between BMI and innovation performance. This is doubly true in specific contexts like Central European countries, whereas innovation systems are weaker than in Western ones, and firms strongly depend on internal R&D activities and absorptive capacity and technology upgrades via cooperation with other countries. Purpose of the article: This study draws on the BMI theory with the aim of analyzing the effects of each individual BMI element on firms’ performance in terms of creation of radical innovations vs incremental ones. Methods: The data used are from the Community Innovation Survey (CIS) 2018 — the latest micro data available to date — focusing on 16,364 firms in Central Europe, namely 5,749 Czech, 7,377 Hungarian, and 3,238 Slovakian firms. As the explained (dependent) variables are dichotomous (binary: 1 indicates the answer is yes, 0 indicates the answer is no) for all estimated models, a binary logistic regression is used in order to focus on the individual elements representing BMI and analyse their separated effects on firms’ creation of radical and incremental innovations in Central Europe. Individual BMI elements are: BMI methods, logistics, communication, accounting, external relations, human resource management, and marketing. Moreover, we check for control variables such as tax credits and allowances of R&D, public funding of innovation, cooperation with other organizations on R&D or other activities, in-house R&D activities and contracted out ones, lack of finance, lack of skilled employees and internal financial resources, and size. Findings & value added: For radical innovators, practices for organising procedures and external relations are important. For incremental innovators, methods of organising work responsibility, decision making, and human resource management are significant. Surprisingly, regardless of the innovation radicality, several BMI elements are significant. This study suggests that managers should enhance strategic collaborations with external partners out of Central Europe, exploit their absorptive capacity, and increase the knowledge and experience of their employees, whilst policymakers should keep on providing tax credits and allowances for innovation activities, maintaining a supportive infrastructure and reducing administrative burdens.

Opis:
Incremental sheet forming (ISF) is a flexible manufacturing process for sheet metal parts in small to medium quantities. Successive movements of a stylus create the geometry of the sheet metal part. ISF can be performed with or without a counter tool. By using counter tools, the geometry deviation of the formed sheet metal part can be reduced. To achieve the broader application of ISF, counter tools must be cost-effective, fast, and individually producible, even for batch sizes of only one part. In addition to milling, which has been the main method used to date, additive manufacturing (AM) also makes it possible to meet these requirements for flexible counter tool production. To investigate the suitability of AM for the production of counter tools for the ISF and to learn more about the load on the counter tool, a cylindrical counter tool made of polylactic acid (PLA) was produced using the fused filament fabrication (FFF) process. This counter tool was used for the ISF of drawing steel. Based on the force measurement results, a first step towards suitability evaluation of 3D-printed counter tools for ISF was taken, and possibilities, as well as application limits for such counter tools were discussed.

The development of research on the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller has increased significantly in this decade. The MPPT technique, however, is still demanding because of the ease and simplicity of implementing tracking technique on the maximum power point (MPP). In this paper, MPPT techniques and their modifications from various literature are classified and examined in detail. The discussions are focused on the main objective of obtaining the best possible MPPT technique with the best results at a low cost. The assessment for the selection of MPPT techniques is based on assessments from the previous literature. The discussion of the MPPT technique assessment is divided into two parts. In Part I, the MPPT technique based on constant parameters, and trial-and-error will be discussed in detail, along with its algorithm development in recent times.

Opis:
In the last decade, there has been a substantial surge in the advancement of research into the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller. The MPPT approaches, on the other hand, continue to be in high demand due to the ease and simplicity with which tracking techniques can be implemented on the maximum power point (MPP). Diverse MPPT approaches and their modifications from various literature are categorized and thoroughly explored in this work, which is divided into two sections. The discussions are centered on the primary goal of attaining the most extraordinary feasible MPPT technique that produces the best results at the lowest possible expense. In order to determine which MPPT approaches to use, evaluations from earlier literature are used to guide the decision. In this section, we will examine the evaluation of the MPPT technique in two sections. Previously, in Part I, we explored the MPPT techniques based on constant parameters and trial-and- error. Part II of this article will examine the MPPT technique, which is based on mathematical computation, measurement, and comparison, and the algorithm development that has occurred in recent years. Furthermore, this section’s assessment for selecting MPPT approaches is based on previous literature reviews. To aid with this selection, the following criteria for the MPPT approach are proposed: sensors and analog/digital requirements, costeffectiveness, simplicity, stability, efficiency, and tracking speed. This enables the reader to select the MPPT technique that is most appropriate for their application.

Opis:
BIM technology is not commonly used in the Polish bridge engineering yet. The article presents a case study of a road bridge made of prestressed concrete and built using the incremental launching method, modelled according to the BIM technology. The bridge with a complex geometry is located along the S1 expressway. Particular attention is paid to the development of the BIM 5D model created on the basis of a design developed traditionally in order to gain competence and verify the set goals. The process of creating subsequent stages of the BIM model is characterized synthetically, in particular the 3D geometric model with the surrounding area and additional 4D (time) and 5D (costs, kinds of materials) dimensions together with the software used. The article discusses the assumptions adopted for the development of numerical models and data analyses. The developed models take into account the assembly phase (construction) and the use (operation) phase, appropriate for the incremental launching method. The results obtained while using BIM technology were confronted with the results identified on the basis of a conventional design. Conclusions present the most important challenges and the achieved goals as well as the pros and cons of creating designs while using BIM technology.
Most o skomplikowanej geometrii znajduje się w ciągu drogi ekspresowej S1. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na opracowanie modelu BIM 5D, tworzonego na podstawie projektu opracowanego tradycyjnie, w celu zdobycia kompetencji zespołu projektowego i weryfikacji postawionych celów. Syntetycznie scharakteryzowano proces tworzenia kolejnych etapów modelu BIM, w szczególności modelu geometrycznego 3D wraz z otoczeniem, i dodatkowymi wymiarami 4D (czas) i 5D (koszty, rodzaje materiałów) łącznie z zastosowanym oprogramowaniem. Krótko przedstawiono założenia przyjęte w celu opracowania modeli numerycznych i analizy danych. Opracowane modele uwzględniają fazy montażowe (budowę) i fazę eksploatacji charakterystyczne w metodzie nasuwania wzdłużnego.

This work addresses the problem of adaptive observer design for nonlinear systems satisfying incremental quadratic constraints. The output of the system includes nonlinear terms, which puts an additional strain on the design and feasibility of the observer, which is guaranteed under the satisfaction of an LMI, and a set of algebraic constraints. A particular case where the output nonlinearity matches the unknown parameter coefficient is also discussed. The result is illustrated through a numerical example for the chaos synchronization of the Rössler system.

This paper presents the results of experimental research on the fabrication of thin-walled panels with longitudinal stiffening ribs by the single point incremental sheet forming technique. The bead-stiffened panels were made of Alclad 2024-T3 aluminium alloy sheets commonly used in aircraft structures. The influence of forming parameters and tool strategy on surface quality and the possibility of obtaining stiffening ribs with the required profile and depth was tested through experimental research. Two tool path strategies, spiral with continuous sinking and multi-step z-level contouring, were considered. The results of the experiments were used to verify the finite element-based numerical simulations of the incremental forming process. It was found that the main parameter which influences the formability of test sheets is the tool path strategy; the tool path strategy with multi-step z-level contouring allowed the rib to be formed to a depth of 3.53 mm without risk of cracking. However a greater depth of rib equal of 5.56 mm was achieved with the continuous tool path. The tool path strategy was also the main parameter influencing the surface finish of the drawpiece during the single point incremental forming process.

The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of organizational development on organizational effectiveness at Jordanian universities, mediating by resistance to change. The researchers used the descriptive analytical method to scan members’ opinions. Moreover, the researchers designed and distributed a questionnaire to Jordanian universities’ academic staff members. The study’s sample consists of (436) academic staff members. The results show that continuous development has a statistically negative significant impact on resistance to change, and individual resistance has a statistically positive significant impact on organizational resistance. Furthermore, resistance to change played a partially mediating role between organizational development and organizational effectiveness. This study subsides by filling a gap in organizational development literature in the higher education sector, in which empirical studies on the relationship between organizational development, organizational effectiveness and resistance to change have been inadequate until now. This study appears to be the first study that empirically tests the indirect relationship between organizational development and organizational effectiveness via resistance to change.
Celem niniejszego opracowania jest zbadanie wpływu rozwoju organizacyjnego na efektywność organizacyjną na jordańskich uniwersytetach, za pośrednictwem oporu wobec zmian. Badacze wykorzystali opisową metodę analityczną do skanowania opinii członków. Ponadto badacze zaprojektowali i rozesłali kwestionariusz do pracowników naukowych jordańskich uniwersytetów.

Based on the central composite design, data were collected during 20 runs and then variation analysis was performed. The experiments were performed on a 3 axis CNC milling machine equipped with a Kistler dynamometer plate. Subsequently, regression models have been developed to describe process responses by input factors. As crucial parameters, the relative velocity and step size of the tool that affect the forming force and the height of the fracture have been determined. Finally, the application of optimization algorithm has emerged optimal input factors in terms of selected multi-criteria goal. This paper presents frustum cone drawpiece analysis made of titanium CP2 sheet by a single incremental sheet forming. Central composite design has been adopted to carry out an experiment containing 20 runs, then multi-criteria parameter optimization has been done. Optimal parameters have been validated and responses deviations do not exceed 4% compared to created models. For the drawpiece formed with optimal parameters, AGRUS optical measurement and X-ray tomography has been applied to check the obtained of the part wall thickness and general deviations compared to the CAD model. The wall angle discrepancy of the cone generatrix has also been analyzed. No gaps or ruptures have been confirmed by X-ray. The blank rolling direction has a significant effect on the drawpiece deviations. The measurement results showed deviations of the drawpiece wall angle +0.27°/- 0.06°, sheet thickness on the cone +0.012/-0.04 mm and +0.151/-0.096 mm from the reference CAD geometry.

Opis:
Transition curves connecting straight sections with circular curves and vice versa are present on all types of roads. They are designed to smooth the transition from rectilinear to circular motion. In numerous instances, they are hardly noticeable by road use. Although adequately selected, they increase the safety and comfort of driving. The research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of three most popular curves, in the design of road routes: clothoid, a parabola of the 3rd-degree and Bernoulli lemniscate. Starting from the permissible values of the increment of centripetal acceleration on the transition curves, the minimum lengths of the transition curves for the assumed speeds of the wheeled vehicle were determined. Then, based on the formulas of individual curves, their lengths were calculated, depending on the design speed and the radius of the circular arc. As a result of the research, the differences between the individual curves were obtained. Finally, it was found that due to the unconstrained movement of the vehicle on the road, all curves could be used as transition curves. By slightly adjusting their lengths, we can achieve the appropriate value of the increment of centripetal acceleration. The legitimacy of using different curves as transition curves lies primarily in their different geometric appearance. The choice of the curve to be used is based primarily on the terrain conditions and the type of the planned section of the route (serpentines, turnouts, etc.).

Aim/purpose – In this paper, we explore the contribution of Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS) to innovation in SMEs. We consider two HRMS with different orientations: Commitment HRMS (focusing on long-term career development to increase employees’ creativity) and Collaboration HRMS (focusing on the use of external human capital to achieve innovation). We believe that SMEs’ radical and incremental innovation follow different paths from a configurational perspective. We want to understand how the two HRMS influence radical and incremental innovation, consequently, we explore the contributions of Commitment HRMS and Collaboration HRMS. Design/methodology/approach – We apply a set-theoretic method, an analytic quantitative and qualitative technique to approach data – fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) – to test our models. We use a sample of 377 Portuguese SMEs from across industries. Findings – Results show there are two pathways that lead SMEs to high levels of incremental innovation and three alternative paths that originate high levels of radical innovation. By contrast, there are ways that lead to lower levels of incremental (two options) and radical innovation (three options). Research implications/limitations – We provide propositions for theory development on the contribution of HRMS to innovation. Managerial contributions regard the several options provided to SME managers in search of innovation. Limitations regard the lack of generalization power of results due to the cross-sectional nature of the work. However, the research design is replicable without restrictions. Originality/value/contribution – We suggest that SMEs’ radical and incremental innovation follow different paths from a configurational perspective. With this study, we contribute to showing the diversity of ways to reach higher innovation levels at SMEs, so that managers know the alternatives they have at their disposal. Additionally, we reveal the ways that lead to lower innovation levels at SMEs, so we alert managers to the undesired pathways they should be cautious about.

The prediction of inelastic processes like plastic deformations and cracks within the microstructure of modern man-made materials by realistic, yet simple and efficient continuum models remains a major task in material modelling. For this purpose, gradient-extended standard dissipative solids represent one of the most promising model classes, which is also formulated and applied in this work to investigate microscopic failure mechanisms in three exemplary three-dimensional composite microstructures. The model combines geometrically nonlinear isotropic elastoplasticity with an isotropic damage model with gradient-extension. For the numerical treatment, a variational constitutive update algorithm based on the exponential map is applied. The model is used to provide insight into the microscopic failure of a brittle woven composite material, a particle-reinforced plastic and a carbon fiber reinforced composite. The influence of different microstructural and material parameters on the overall failure behavior is characterized. Adaptive meshing is used to enable a refined numerical resolution of the cracked regions.

The part of the brass metal is demanded in many industrial uses because of its high load-carrying capacity and its wear resistance property. Considering the industrial interest and demand of the brass metal products, the present study is done with the SPIF experiment on calamine brass Cu67Zn33 followed by an ANN analysis for predicting the absolute surface roughness. The modeling result shows a close agreement with the measured data. The minimum and maximum errors are found in experiment 3 and experiment 7 respectively. The error of predicted roughness is found in the range of –30.87 to 20.23 and the overall coefficient of performance of ANN modeling is 0.947 which is quite acceptable.
