    The Literary Group “PODIUM Schloss Neulengbach” is an association of originally Lower Austrian writers – in the broadest sense. This statement has far-reaching consequences, since it is not about uniting random individuals with a common desire to recollect their own memories in the literary form with a view to handing them over to descendants, but above all it is about a literary group that has existed for almost 50 years and includes about 200 active members. Over time, the Group created its history and developed its own tradition, which became the content of shared memories, evolving into a kind of “realm of memory” (lieu de mémoire) in the understanding of Pierre Nora. Through establishing a social group, individuals with their own memories transfer their experience to a wider field of unity, beginning to form a collective memory. The report focuses on the research of remembrance issues in a case study of poetic texts included in the leaflets, which Literaturkreis PODIUM publishes annually before the Poetry Day. The purpose of the report is to identify and describe the main Austrian “realms of memory” actualized in the mentioned texts, as well as to describe the specifics of their actualization. The complete analysis of all the leaflet texts dating from 1973 to 2019 made it possible to outline four specific Austrian complexes of “realms of memory” relating to the concepts as follows: SCHULD/VERANTWORTUNG, GEMÜT/KINDHEIT, HEIMAT and IDENTITÄTEN.

    The aim of this article is to compare two diaries that describe everyday life of women on the west front. The analysis of secretary Ilse Schmidt and nurse Erika Summ memories gives a wider perspective look on a role and position of German women during the war with the Soviet Union. The source answer questions connected to migration to West and everyday life’s problems during the war – like relations between fellow workers, reaction to death or pregnancy in the time of conflict.
    Celem artykułu jest porównanie dwóch pamiętników opisujących życie codzienne kobiet na froncie wschodnim. Analiza wspomnień spisanych przez pomocnicę sztabową Ilse Schmidt oraz pielęgniarkę Erikę Summ pozwala w szerszym stopniu zapoznać się z rolą i pozycją Niemek w czasie wojny ze Związkiem Radzieckim. W tekście omówione zostały kwestie związane z wyjazdem na wschód, a także problemy życia codziennego na froncie, takie jak relacje ze współpracownikami, reakcja na śmierć czy też ciąża pracownic sztabowych i wynikające z tego konsekwencje.

    The publications of the short story “Das vierte Tor” (“The Fourth Gate”, 1945) and the novel Die größere Hoffnung(The Greater Hope, 1948) by Ilse Aichinger mark the beginning of post-war Austrian literature. Like several of her contemporaries, including Paul Celan, Ingeborg Bachmann and Milo Dor, Aichinger was part of a generation of survivors of the atrocities of war and National Socialism. After 1945, the “old guard” of poets incited the young generation to find a new voice within post-war German-speaking literature and set new standards in the literary field. The reading of Ilse Aichinger’s texts, which were first published in the immediate post-war period, is thus not merely a literary matter. Rather, it is a way to reach the core of post-war culture within the German-speaking world, especially in the Austrian context, where the tradition of language skepticism and Sprachkritik has always been linked to political and ethical issues. To reflect upon literature and cultural production in the context of Austria’s problematic denazification means to focus not on a “message,” but instead on a “poethics” as a new form of commitment. This was not only an individual effort by authors, but the expression of a collective act of will in which individual instances and political strategies (not all controlled by the authors themselves) played a role in the cultural field(s) during Cold War years. The paper also discusses the fundamental role played by literary magazines as an important instrument of cultural renewal, as well as by their actors, gate-keepers, and financial and political influencers in the post-war context.

    Noch weit über dreißig Jahre nach der deutschen Wiedervereinigung gibt es in der germanistischen Literaturwissenschaft in keiner Weise eine Einheitlichkeit in der Begriffsbestimmung zu der nach 1989 in Ostdeutschland geschriebenen Literatur. Termini wie Wendeliteratur, Regionalliteratur, ostdeutsche Literatur und Post-DDR-Literatur bestimmen die Aussagen. Dabei ist auffallend, dass in literaturwissenschaftlichen Abhandlungen der postkoloniale Diskurs über Jahre weitestgehend ausgeblendet bzw. sofort wieder in Frage gestellt wird. In der Aufnahme postkolonialer Verfahren wird in dem Beitrag der ‚dritte Raum‘ in der Post-DDR-Literatur bestimmt, indem die vom amerikanischen Kulturwissenschaftler und Philosophen Homi K. Bhabha geprägten ‚Gegengeschichten‘ in ihrer Bedeutung erschlossen werden, da sie kritische Perspektiven auf Einheit und Vielheit einer Nation sowie deren Postulat einer stabilen teleologisch und hegemonial informierten Geschichtspolitik artikulieren können.
    Jeszcze trzydzieści lat po zjednoczeniu Niemiec w literaturoznawstwie germanistycznym nie ujednolicono w żaden sposób określania literatury powstałej po 1989 roku w Niemczech Wschodnich. W wypowiedziach na ten temat pojawiają się pojęcia takie, jak ‘literatura przełomu’, ‘literatura regionalna’, ‘literatura wschodnioniemiecka’ lub ‘literatura post-NRD-owska’. Zauważalne jest równocześnie, że w pracach literaturoznawczych przez wiele lat unikano dyskursu postkolonialnego, bądź też natychmiast go negowano. W nawiązaniu do metod analizy zjawisk postkolonialnych w artykule określono ‘trzecią przestrzeń’ w literaturze post-NRD-owskiej poprzez uściślenie znaczenia tzw. ‘historii przeciwstawnych’ ukonstytuowanych przez amerykańskiego kulturoznawcę i filozofa Homi K. Bhabha, gdyż pozwalają one na krytyczne spojrzenie na jedność i wielość jednego narodu oraz jego postulat prowadzenia teleologicznie stabilnej i hegemonialnie zorientowanej polityki historycznej.
    The German unification process took for more than thirty years ago and still there is no consistency in German literary studies in how to define literature that has been produced in East Germany after 1989. There are terms like ‘Wendeliteratur’, ‘Regionalliteratur’, East German literature or Post-GDR-Literature. Postcolonial discourse has rarely been considered by German philologists or has been questioned from the core. By using postcolonial analysis methods my aim is to define the ‘third room’ in post-GDR-literature and to find ‘Gegengeschichten’ the American scientist and philosopher Homi K. Bhabha located in his postcolonial studies on modern nations. The ‘Gegengeschichten’ are able to articulate a critical perspective on unity and plurality of nations and questions their posit of a stable, teleological and hegemonical informed history policy.

It raises the issue of outsourcing the killing of prisoners in order to obtain tattooed leather for them to be processed andused as everyday items.
