Opis:
The hydrodynamic pattern, which surrounds the pier near a splitter that has T-shape, is investigated by adopting a numerical method and using ANSYS Fluent Software to achieve computation. The essential objective of this paper refers to revealing the behavior of the hydrodynamic field around the pier due to the existence of the upstream splitter plate. The T-splitter plate has not been used in previous works for controlling the flow field around the cylinder body. The main assumptions adopted in solving the hydrodynamic problem are incompressible, steady, and laminar flow. Reynolds number values are taken from 40 to 200 to guarantee laminar flow with laminar vortex street. The numerical investigation focuses on two main variables. These variables are the horizontal distance between the rear portion of a splitter and the pier center and bubble length. The numerical study comprises pressure contours, water velocity contours, and streamlines. Results reveal that bubbles are generated and developed due to the existence of the splitter. Four bubbles are generated, two of them are formed in the region between the splitter rear portion and pier leading portion and the other two bubbles are formed at the cylindrical pier wake region. The size and length of these four bubbles are dominated by the Reynolds number, these bubbles are non-symmetrical. It is revealed from the solution that with the rise in Reynolds number values then the disturbance will be increased simultaneously. The horizontal distance dominates the hydraulic response, which is described by the streamlines, pressure contours, and water flow contours. Furthermore, the Reynolds number has a significant influence on the pressure contours, water flow contours, and streamlines. Finally, a correlation equation is derived relying on bubble length, horizontal distance, and Reynolds number.

Opis:
At this paper the analysis of failure risk in the two water supply systems in the south-eastern Poland is presented. For this purpose the hydraulic models of the water networks created in the EPANET 2 on the basis of data obtained from the water networks operation were used. The consequences of failure of individual pipelines were determined. The areas that are most vulnerable to pressure fluctuations in the water supply system resulting from the failure of these pipelines, were located.

Opis:
The presented approach to predict lifetime of avionic hydraulic drives belongs to a priori (accelerated) methods as by its nature it does not reeuire to continue tests until a hydraulic subassembly or drive reaches its boundary value of a structural parameter. The method uses distributions of a random variable with time-dependent variance as models for lifetime prediction. Variations of structural parameters over a discretional period of time are described with use of the Gaussian distribution with the assumption that the course of the process when the structural parameters are subject to deterioration comprises the entire probabilistic characteristic that defines resistance of the hydraulic drive to a wear and tear process. In that context distributions of characteristics for variations of structural parameters were determined for a selected period of time and it served as a basis to find out parameters for the distribution of the defect-free operation time. The completed functional and design decomposition of an example avionic hydraulic drive made it possible to obtain a hierarchical description of the hydraulic drive, to identify its structural parameters that are available during the drive operation as well as to define a set of measurable out put parameters of a system, a module (a hydraulic system) and a block (a hydraulic subassembly). The set of measurable output parameters attributable to the hydraulic system in question is described with use of mathematic equations that result from fundamental equations for hydraulic systems dynamics, i.e. the mass conservation law, the principle of momentum and angular momentum conservation as well as the energy conservation law.

Opis:
The main purpose of the article is to compare the field method of the estimation of hydraulic conductivity of near-surface soils on the background of potential errors related to the determination of field-saturated hydraulic conductivity (Kfs). The overestimation of Kfs value is mainly a result of wrong assumptions about measurements under full-saturation conditions (saturation zone). The article presents results of experiment carried out in a series of stationary measurements of hydraulic conductivity using selected field methods in a longer time period in selected places in the city of Wrocław, taking into account variability of precipitation and lithology of soils. Using commonly applied methods and tools of data analysis and interpretation, the schemes of procedure were tested to reduce errors of fieldsaturated hydraulic conductivity estimation.

Opis:
When modelling flow and/or sediment transport in streams and rivers, one must frequently use the computer software of differing levels of complexity. The level of sophistication, accuracy, and quality of results are the parameters by which models can be classified as being 1D, 2D, or 3D; it seems certain that in the future, there will also be 4D and 5D models. However, the results obtained from very sophisticated models are frequently questionable, and designers in the field of hydraulic structures must have considerable experience distinguishing important information from irrelevant information. Thus, this paper aims to investigate the effect of the selected boulder block ramp hydraulic structure at Poniczanka stream on the bed-load transport. We evaluated sediment transport using the CCHE2D numerical model. We analysed several scenarios depending on the river bed type (erodible, non-erodible, rocky) and examined the rock blocks used for hydraulic structure construction. The obtained results were compared with the Hjulström and the Shields graph, which are a classic approach for identifying fluvial processes in river channels. In addition to these two methods, numerical modelling using the 1D HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System) modelling were conducted, which included the determination of horizontal and vertical changes to the river bed morphology of the examined section of river reach as well as providing the basic hydrodynamics parameters which, from the practical point of view, designers involved in the process of designing ramps could use.

Opis:
The recent boom in shale gas exploration around the world has sparked a paradigm shift in energy security in many countries in the world. With the successful exploration of shale gas production in the United State’s, many operators are trying to replicate the success in other parts of the world specifically in European countries where the presence of organic rich shale deposits have signaled a promising investment for the recovery of shale gas. Perspective studies for the Polish shale gas field in Poland have been ongoing. One part of this project is the comparison of hydraulic fracture thickness between the U.S shale gas field and Polish for better and effective design and modeling of reservoirs for the optimal exploration and recovery of shale gas. Successful production of natural gas from Polish basins requires a hydraulic fracture stimulation to unlock the gas trapped in the shales coupled with a geologic analysis of the shale rocks.

The conceptual design activities for the DEMOnstration reactor (DEMO) – the prototype fusion power plant – are conducted in Europe by the EUROfusion Consortium. In 2015, three design concepts of the DEMO toroidal field (TF) coil were proposed by Swiss Plasma Center (EPFL-SPC, PSI Villigen), Italian National Agency for New Technologies (ENEA Frascati), and Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA Cadarache). The proposed conductor designs were subjected to complete mechanical, electromagnetic, and thermal-hydraulic analyses. The present study is focused on the thermal-hydraulic analysis of the candidate conductor designs using simplifi ed models. It includes (a) hydraulic analysis, (b) heat removal analysis, and (c) assessment of the maximum temperature and the maximum pressure in each conductor during quench. The performed analysis, aimed at verification whether the proposed design concepts fulfil the established acceptance criteria, provides the information for further improvements of the coil and conductors design.

Opis:
The paper summarizes up-to-date knowledge of the contemporary tectonic stress field in Poland and compares the results of geophysical measurements with mathematical models. The extensive set of data provided by borehole breakout analyses is supplemented by hydraulic fracturing tests, earthquake focal mechanism solutions and preliminary resolution of regional intraplate motions from GPS measurements. Frequent breakout presence shows that tectonically driven anisotropy of horizontal stress is a common feature in the study area. Roughly N-S direction of maximum horizontal stress (SHmaxx) in Eastern Poland differs significantly from Western European stress domain. This difference is produced by tectonic push of Alcapa, which is successively compensated within the Teisseyre-Tornquist Zone (TTZ) and in the Upper Silesian segment of the Outer Carpathians. In the western part of Poland stress directions are ambiguous due to interplay of several additional tectonic factors. Most of hydraulic fracturing data and earthquake focal mechanism solutions indicate strike-slip stress regime in Eastern Poland where stresses are in equilibrium with preferentially oriented faults of Iow friction (0.16). Limited data from Western Poland suggest normal fault stress regime. Good conformity between directions of 5Hm", and intraplate motions occurs from comparison of breakout and GPS data. Finite element modelling shows that the most important factor shaping the stress field in Eastern and Central Poland is the Adria push transmitted through the Pannonian region. Secondary, but still notable factors are differentiation of loads along the Mediterranean collision zone and changes in magnitude of the ridge push force along the NW Continental passive margin of Europe. Results of rheological modelling indicate that the crust is entirely decoupled from the mantle in the Fore-Sudetic Platform, partial uncoupling in the base or the upper crust is possible in the TTZ while in the East European Craton (EEC) the whole lithosphere is coupled. The comparison of different set of data and models presented here provides a comprehensive geodynamic scenario for Poland, however, a number of unresolved questions still remains to be addressed.
