Hollow balls are used in the production of various machines and devices. The technology for producing hollow balls by metal forming technologies poses numerous difficulties connected with the forming of a hollow billet. The billet, which is usually in the form of a rod, is subject to such processes as forging, helical rolling or cross-wedge rolling. The paper discusses a new method and conditions for producing a hollow ball. It was assumed that the ball would be produced in two forging operations: an initial forging operation and finish forging operation. The presented results are based on the FEM numerical analysis conducted using DEFORM-3D. It was assumed that the billet material was made from AISI 304 stainless steel used to produce balls for ball valves. Both the shape progression during the forging process and variations in the forming force were analyzed. Based on the conducted analyses, it can be claimed that hollow balls can be produced using the proposed forging method.

The paper presents a new process for flanging hollow parts. This process is performed using a specially designed set of tools with movable sleeves. The principle of operation of the tool set is described and examples of the numerical analysis results are given. The FEM simulation was performed on the assumption that the hot-formed hollow workpiece (tube) is made of AlMgSi aluminum alloy. The obtained FEM results show changes in the workpiece shape during flanging, variations in the forming force and the damage function distribution computed according to the C-L failure criterion. The theoretical results of the new flanging method provided basis for experimental tests.

The hollow section welded joints require a number of actions before starting welding and appropriate supervision during this operation to achieve joints with adequate quality level, which should be confirmed by the post-completion tests. The execution of hollow section joints is associated not only with welding, but also with cutting and additional machining of edges. In some cases, weld surfacing is also applied to correct sections fit-up. Weld surfacing and thermal cutting can cause local hardening of connected elements. The welding has to be preceded by an assessment of the previous technological processes. The welded joints can be only executed on the basis of detailed Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). It is advisable to manufacture - in accordance with previously prepared WPS - pre-production joints for testing, proving the ability of the welding personnel to execute welded joints with specified quality, using the available equipment. The quality of welded joints is proved by testing. A type of conducted tests, thus scope and type of welding defects possible to detect, depends on the weld type, wall thickness of connected elements and joint geometry. The authors’ experience indicates that the proper execution of the welded joint of hollow sections is difficult task, which often requires pre-production quality testing of the joints.

Steel structures designed according to Eurocode 3 are executed in accordance with the provisions of the standard PN-EN 1090-2, which is referred to in Eurocode 3. In addition, the standard PN-EN 1090-2 refers to in its content a number of welding standards, e.g. PN-EN ISO 9692-1. These standards provide guidelines for welded connections, which should be applied in the case of joints connecting steel hollow sections. Analysis of above-mentioned provisions revealed that for fillet welds they are simultaneously fulfilled only if the inclination angles of the elements are in the range of 70°-100°. According to recommendations of PN-EN 1993-1-8 and EN 1090-2, the same weld type around the perimeter of the element connected to the chord of lattice structure is possible to execute only for inclination angle lower than 60°. Discrepancies between these standards also exist with regard to the interpretation of the dimension of the flare groove welds in connections of rectangular hollow sections with the same width. In addition, analyses of the recommendations for welding in cold-formed zones indicate that, for steel grades currently used for the production of cold-formed rectangular hollow sections, welding in these zones is not permitted only for profiles with wall thickness equal to 12.5 and 16 mm. The above-mentioned issues point out the need for mutual unification of standards for the design and execution of steel joints in hollow sections.

The paper presents the results of tests performed in a Torsional Shear Hollow Cylinder Apparatus on undisturbed cohesive soils. The tests were performed on lightly overconsolidated clay (Cl) and sandy silty clay (sasiCl). The main objective of the tests was to determine the undrained shear strength at different angles of rotation of the principal stress directions. The results of laboratory tests allow assessing the influence of rotation of the principal stress directions on the value of undrained shear strength that should be used during designing structure foundations.

This study presents an opportunity to utilize peeler cores derived from poplar wood for the production of hollow beams. In this way, final products to meet the needs of consumers can be obtained. The proposed novel methods for sawing and gluing the produced materials allow rational application of the waste raw material in the plywood manufacturing. Another advantage in this case is that products with a square cross-section with dimensions close to or corresponding to the standard ones are obtained from small-diameter round wood. The raw material used to receive the proposed hollow beams is up to 33% less than a conventional beam with the same dimensions. The manufactured products are lighter and with a significantly stable cross-sectional shape, compared to natural wood beams with the same dimensions. Sawing the peeler cores and obtaining materials with a triangular and trapezoidal cross-section helps to achieve volume yields from 60.6% to 71.1% of the raw material initial volume.

Opis:
Studies to find alternative low environmental-impact materials for acoustic absorbers are still progressing, particularly those originated from natural materials. However, most of the established works are mainly focused on the fibrous-type absorbers. Discussion on the non-fibrous-type absorbers is still lacking and this therefore becomes the objective of this paper. Use of bamboo by utilizing its hollow structure to absorb sound energy is discussed here. The normal incidence absorption coefficient was measured based on the length and diameter of the bamboo, as well as different arrangement of the bamboo structure subjected to the incidence sound, namely, axial, transverse, and crossed-transverse arrangements. The trend of absorption coefficient appears in peaks and dips at equally spacing frequencies. For all arrangements the peak of absorption can reach above 0.8. Introducing an air gap behind the bamboo shifts the peak absorption to lower frequency. Covering the front surface of the absorber improves the sound absorption coefficient for axial arrangement by widening the frequency range of absorption also towards lower frequency range. The transverse arrangement is found to have average absorption coefficient peaks of 0.7 above 1.5 kHz. By arranging the bamboo structure with crossed-transverse arrangement, the suppressed absorption peaks in normal transverse arrangement can be recovered.

This paper presents the results of numerical calculations of rolling extrusion process of a hollow hub. Simulations were made by means of software Deform 3D in three dimensional state of strain. Distributions of effective stress, effective strain and damage criterion in the rolled extruded product were analyzed. Verification of metal flow during process allowed to design tools for experimental verification in PO-2 laboratory rolling - extrusion aggregate. For these needs also process force parameters were calculated.
W pracy przedstawiono rezultaty obliczeń numerycznych procesu przepychania obrotowego piasty drążonej. Symulacje wykonano w przestrzennym stanie odkształcenia korzystając z oprogramowania Deform 3D. Analizie numerycznej poddano, występujące w przepychanym obrotowo wyrobie, rozkłady naprężeń, odkształceń oraz kryterium pękania. Określenie kierunków płynięcia metalu podczas kształtowania umożliwiło zaprojektowanie narzędzi przeznaczonych do weryfikacji eksperymentalnej procesu w agregacie do przepychania obrotowego PO-2. W tym celu oszacowano także parametry siłowe procesu.

This paper presents the chosen results of ball pins hollow forgings forming by means of rotary compression. Theoretical research was based on numerical simulations, conducted using finite element method. The software Simufact was applied for calculations needs. During simulations, kinematics of material flow, strain intensity distribution, damage criterion according to Cockroft-Latham and temperature distributions were determined. Force parameters in the process were also determined and limiting phenomena were identified. Results from FEM modeling were verified in laboratory conditions. Ball pins hollow forgings forming tests were performed in a special forge aggregate. The obtained results fully confirmed the possibility of ball pins hollow forgings manufacturing by means of rotary compression.

During the implementation of investment processes with the use of ready-made prefabricated elements, undesirable situations may occur that cause scratches, excessive deflections or damage. This is due to the fact that defects occur during transport, storage or incorrect loading of the elements. The conducted tests and technical assessments often allow the use of built-in elements, however, under the conditions of the need to make their reinforcements. This may be due to the scale of damage or defects made during molding and, as a consequence, the implementation of prefabricated elements with too low load capacity. Taking action each time should allow for the implementation of reinforcements of the elements, limiting the need to dismantle them, which would result in their irretrievable destruction. The implementation of reinforcements allows to reduce the generation of waste from new elements and allows for the proper management of already produced prefabricated elements. Used elements with reinforcements should be subject to technical inspection in the same periods as other structural elements. Proper implementation of repairs allows for the final effect to be similar to the parameters of elements free of technical defects. Due to the existing problem of damage to new elements of prefabricated channel ceilings, solutions have been developed that can be used to reinforce the elements without the need to dismantle them from the places of installation, while reducing the time spent on the process.

The analytical equation of an anomalous hollow vortex beam propagating in a uniaxial crystal orthogonal to the optical axis is derived, and the intensity and phase properties of this beam propagating in the uniaxial crystal are illustrated using numerical examples. The influences of topological charge M and the ratio of refractive index ne/no of a uniaxial crystal on the normalized intensity distribution and phase distribution for anomalous hollow vortex beam are discussed and analyzed in detail.

The contribution deals with determining of stress from measured values of strains. Gauge strains, which were linked in half-bridge, and the universal measurement system QuantumX MX840 were used to experimentally obtain the strains. Rods with circular section and hollow circular section serve as tests samples. Students within the educational process will have the opportunity to acquaint with the universal measuring system and see the interconnectedness of theory and practical application.

Based on the extended Huygens–Fresnel principle, the cross-spectral density function of a partially coherent anomalous hollow beam (AHB) propagating in underwater oceanic turbulence has been derived. The average intensity of partially coherent AHB propagating in underwater oceanic turbulence has been calculated. The influences of coherence length and the strength of underwater oceanic turbulence on the spreading properties of partially coherent AHB are illustrated and analyzed using numerical examples. It is found that the partially coherent AHB with smaller coherence length and the partially coherent AHB propagating in stronger underwater oceanic turbulence will lose the initial beam profile and evolve into the Gaussian beam faster. The results are useful in applications for underwater wireless optical communication.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the blade shape on the characteristic of the flow patterns in a stirred tank. A new impeller blade design has been proposed. It is characterized by a converging hollow. The investigations of the flow structure generated in the vessel are made by using the computer code ANSYS CFX (version 16.0). The analysis has shown that the converging hollow blade yields highly radial flows which gave an increase in the radial velocity by 35% with less power consumption than the flat blade. Also, the effectiveness of the energy dissipation and the quality of mixing has been obviously noted. A validation test of our predicted results with other literature data was done, and a satisfactory agreement has been found.

Based on the extended Huygens–Fresnel principle and the definition of second-order moments of the Wigner distribution function, the analytical expression for the kurtosis parameter of partially coherent controllable dark hollow beams in free space is derived, and used to study the influence of beam parameters on the kurtosis parameter. It is shown that the kurtosis parameter increases with increasing the wavelength and the waist width, or decreasing the scaling factor, however, the effect of the beam order and the spatial correlation length on the kurtosis parameter depends on the propagation distance. The results can be interpreted physically.

Anomalous hollow beam has potential applications in the optical trapping and free space optical communications, etc. It is noted that, thus far, although a large number of studies have been carried out in this field, most of them are theoretical studies and only quite a few cases have experimental results. Here, we experimentally study the generating of anomalous hollow beam carrying orbital angular momentum, and measure its topological charge. We show that the number of dark rings in the Fourier transform of intensity patterns is equal to the topological charge. The experimental results agree well with the simulations.

Considering the advantages of hollow fiber supported liquid membrane (HFSLM), it has been applied for extraction of Co(II) with a motivation to extract cobalt from various waste resources. Extraction efficiency and transport behavior of Co(II) through HFSLM containing Cyanex 272 diluted in kerosene were investigated. Experiments were performed as a function of aqueous feed solution velocity (1000 mL/min) for both feed and strip, pH of feed solution in the range of 4.00-6.75, the carrier concentration of 25-1000 mol/m3, and acid concentration in strip solution of 1-500 mol/m3 on. The mass transfer rate or flux J Co(II), which is a function of metal concentration, volume of solution, and membrane area were analyzed. The optimum condition for extraction of Co(II) was pH of 6.00, Cyanex 272 concentration of 500 mol/m3 and H2 SO4 concentration of 100 mol/m3.

This article presents the results of computer simulations used to investigate the forming of a hollow coldworked forging with an outer flange. Numerical simulations were performed in Deform 2D/3D using a calculation module for axial-symmetric cases. A ϕ57×12.5 mm tube-shaped billet from 42CrMo4 grade steel was used. The forming process involved two and three stages, consisting of extrusion the shaft portion and forging the flange. The objective of this research was to determine the accuracy of the forming process used to produce the hollow part. This technology was analyzed using the effective strain distributions, the Cockcroft-Latham fracture criterion values, and the forming force progression. The results showed that it was possible to use this three-stage process to forge elements from a tube-shaped billet.

Opis:
The modelling of colloidal fouling and defouling of hollow fibre membranes in the presence of membrane oscillations is analysed by means of numerical simulations as an effect of complex coupling between hydrodynamic and surface forces. To describe the latter the Derjaguin-Landau-Vervey-Overbeek (DLVO) model has been employed. We have investigated the influence of various parameters of the process like flow rate, mean particle diameter, amplitude and frequency of the oscillations, and others, on the efficiency of the defouling process. The investigated parameters is close to that of a silica suspension in , a typical system modelling used to investigate membranę separation. On the basis of numerical simulation resu lts e have defined an optimal set of parameters preventing membrane fouling.

This paper investigated the focal shift of partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams through a thin lens system. An analytic expression of the irradiance distribution of the focusing partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams in the back focal plane has been given by using the Collins formula. The focus shift of focused partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams in different parameters is studied in detail by numerical calculations. It is found that the absolute value of the focal shift of partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams decreases as the transverse coherence width or the order of the dark hollow Gaussian beams or a parameter of the dark hollow Gaussian beams increases.

Opis:
The analytical solution of steady-state asymmetric thermo-electro-mechanical loads of a hollow thick infinite cylinder made of porous piezoelectric materials (2D-PPMs) based on two-dimensional equations of thermoelasticity is considered. The general form of thermal and mechanical boundary conditions is considered on the inside and outside surfaces. A direct method is used to solve the heat conduction equation and the non-homogenous system of partial differential Navier equations using the complex Fourier series and the powerexponential law functions method. The material properties are assumed to depend on the radial and circumferential variable and are expressed as power-exponential law functions along the radial and circumferential direction.

The paper presents the results of a numerical analysis (by FEM) of a new forging process for producing a hollow ball with an outside diameter of 30 mm and a wall thickness of 4.4 mm. It was assumed that the ball forging would be cold formed from hollow billet (tube) made of 19MnCr5 steel. The effect of billet dimensions (diameter, height and wall thickness) on the forming process was investigated, which led to identification of basic shape defects and determination of the billet dimensions required for producing balls of the desired geometry. The ball forming conditions, including force parameters of the process, are thoroughly investigated.

These joints are used when the designer and contractor anticipate difficulties during the construction of overlap joints. They were not included in the PN EN 1993-1-8 in full scale. Resistance assessment of such joints is presented in accordance with standard rules. The results were compared with the experimental studies carried out at the “Mostostal” Centre; while the former research activities and the legitimacy of the proposed method of assessing the resistance of these joints was confirmed. This is an example of an overlap joint calculation.
