Opis:
For a graph H, define $\overline{\sigma}_2(H)=min\{d(u)+d(v)|uv∈E(H)\}$. Let $H$ be a 2-connected claw-free simple graph of order $n$ with \(\delta(H) ≥ 3\). In [J. Graph Theory 86 (2017) 193–212], Chen proved that if $\overline{\sigma}_2(H)≥\frac{n}{2}−1$ and $n$ is sufficiently large, then $H$ is Hamiltonian with two families of exceptions. In this paper, we refine the result. We focus on the condition $\overline{\sigma}_2(H)≥\frac{2n}{5}−1$, and characterize non-Hamiltonian 2-connected claw-free graphs $H$ of order $n$ sufficiently large with $\overline{\sigma}_2(H)≥\frac{2n}{5}−1$. As byproducts, we prove that there are exactly six graphs in the family of 2-edge-connected triangle-free graphs of order at most seven that have no spanning closed trail and give an improvement of a result of Veldman in [Discrete Math. 124 (1994) 229–239].

Opis:
A graph G = (V,E) is called a split graph if there exists a partition V = I∪K such that the subgraphs G[I] and G[K] of G induced by I and K are empty and complete graphs, respectively. In 1980, Burkard and Hammer gave a necessary condition for a split graph G with |I| < |K| to be hamiltonian. We will call a split graph G with |I| < |K| satisfying this condition a Burkard-Hammer graph. Further, a split graph G is called a maximal nonhamiltonian split graph if G is nonhamiltonian but G+uv is hamiltonian for every uv ∉ E where u ∈ I and v ∈ K. Recently, Ngo Dac Tan and Le Xuan Hung have classified maximal nonhamiltonian Burkard-Hammer graphs G with minimum degree δ(G) ≥ |I|- 3. In this paper, we classify maximal nonhamiltonian Burkard-Hammer graphs G with |I| ≠ 6,7 and δ(G) = |I| - 4.

We continue our research in the enumeration of Hamiltonian cycles (HCs) on thin cylinder grid graphs Cm × Pn+1 by studying a triangular variant of the problem. There are two types of HCs, distinguished by whether they wrap around the cylinder. Using two characterizations of these HCs, we prove that, for fixed m, the number of HCs of both types satisfy some linear recurrence relations. For small m, computational results reveal that the two numbers are asymptotically the same. We conjecture that this is true for all m ≥ 2.

Opis:
Let \(\mathcal{P}\) be a property of a graph. A graph G is said to be locally \(\mathcal{P}\), if the subgraph induced by the open neighbourhood of every vertex in G has property \(\mathcal{P}\). Ryjáček conjectures that every connected, locally connected graph is weakly pancyclic. Motivated by the above conjecture, van Aardt et al. [S.A.van Aardt, M. Frick, O.R. Oellermann and J.P.de Wet, Global cycle properties in locally connected, locally traceable and locally Hamiltonian graphs, Discrete Appl. Math. 205 (2016) 171–179] investigated the global cycle structures in connected, locally traceable/Hamiltonian graphs. Among other results, they proved that a connected, locally Hamiltonian graph G with maximum degree at least |V (G)| − 5 is weakly pancyclic. In this note, we improve this result by showing that such a graph with maximum degree at least |V (G)|−6 is weakly pancyclic. Furthermore, we show that a connected, locally Hamilton-connected graph with maximum degree at most 7 is fully cycle extendable.

Let ⁿ be a given set of unlabeled simple graphs of order n. A maximal common subgraph of the graphs of the set ⁿ is a common subgraph F of order n of each member of ⁿ, that is not properly contained in any larger common subgraph of each member of ⁿ. By well-known Dirac's Theorem, the Dirac's family ⁿ of the graphs of order n and minimum degree δ ≥ [n/2] has a maximal common subgraph containing Cₙ. In this note we study the problem of determining all maximal common subgraphs of the Dirac's family $ ^{2n}$ for n ≥ 2.

The well-known Chvátal-Erdős theorem states that if the stability number α of a graph G is not greater than its connectivity then G is hamiltonian. In 1974 Erdős showed that if, additionally, the order of the graph is sufficiently large with respect to α, then G is pancyclic. His proof is based on the properties of cycle-complete graph Ramsey numbers. In this paper we show that a similar result can be easily proved by applying only classical Ramsey numbers.

Let G be a 2-connected graph of order n. Suppose that for all 3-independent sets X in G, there exists a vertex u in X such that |N(X∖{u})|+d(u) ≥ n-1. Using the concept of dual closure, we prove that
1. G is hamiltonian if and only if its 0-dual closure is either complete or the cycle C₇
2. G is nonhamiltonian if and only if its 0-dual closure is either the graph $(K_r ∪ Kₛ ∪ Kₜ) ∨ K₂$, 1 ≤ r ≤ s ≤ t or the graph $((n+1)/2)K₁ ∨ K_{(n-1)/2}$.
It follows that it takes a polynomial time to check the hamiltonicity or the nonhamiltonicity of a graph satisfying the above condition. From this main result we derive a large number of extensions of previous sufficient conditions for hamiltonian graphs. All these results are sharp.

A graph G is said to be 1-tough if for every vertex cut S of G, the number of components of G − S does not exceed |S|. Being 1-tough is an obvious necessary condition for a graph to be hamiltonian, but it is not sufficient in general. We study the problem of characterizing all graphs H such that every 1-tough H-free graph is hamiltonian. We almost obtain a complete solution to this problem, leaving H = K1 ∪ P4 as the only open case.

In [2], Brousek characterizes all triples of graphs, G₁, G₂, G₃, with $G_i = K_{1,3}$ for some i = 1, 2, or 3, such that all G₁G₂G₃-free graphs contain a hamiltonian cycle. In [6], Faudree, Gould, Jacobson and Lesniak consider the problem of finding triples of graphs G₁, G₂, G₃, none of which is a $K_{1,s}$, s ≥ 3 such that G₁, G₂, G₃-free graphs of sufficiently large order contain a hamiltonian cycle. In this paper, a characterization will be given of all triples G₁, G₂, G₃ with none being $K_{1,3}$, such that all G₁G₂G₃-free graphs are hamiltonian. This result, together with the triples given by Brousek, completely characterize the forbidden triples G₁, G₂, G₃ such that all G₁G₂G₃-free graphs are hamiltonian.
