Opis:
Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are increasingly used as the main source of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) information for inland water navigation. In order to enable automated driving and facilitate driver assistant functions, it becomes of crucial importance to ensure high reliability and accuracy of the GNSS-based navigation solution, especially in challenging environments. One challenging phase of inland waterway navigation is bridge passing which leads to non-line-of-sight (NLOS) effects such as multipath and loss of tracking. This work presents a Precise Point Positioning (PPP) based algorithm in a two-antenna system where one antenna is at the bow and the other is at the stern. Additionally, gyroscope data from an IMU is used. In contrast to a separated position calculation of the two antennas, only one antenna position is estimated and the other is derived from the baseline between the antennas. This allows for accurate positioning even if one antenna does not receive any GNSS measurements. The presented scheme is evaluated using real measurement data from an inland water scenario with multiple bridges. In comparison with a standard PPP scheme as well as an RTK algorithm, the presented approach shows clear advantages in challenging scenarios.

This article presents the problem of climate warming and the effect of melting ice caps. The problem of climate warming is discussed in two stages. In the first stage, the factors affecting global warming are discussed in detail and the effects and risks of ablation extensively described. Analyses were conducted on data available online from NASA and Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center. The Greenland area (Jakobshavn Glacier) was selected to visualize glacier calving front changes. The analysis of changes was performed on the selected satellite images covering the summer period (June to September) provided by the Landsat program. Then, the changes in the position of the calving front of the Jakobshavn Glacier were visualized for the period 1985–2020, with a repeatability of every 5 years. Thus, our results addressed the challenges of environmental changes to remote sensing data processing. In addition to the visualization, a surface summary of these changes was presented in the study. The results were discussed in the context of climate change data processed by means of the GIS method. Furthermore, an analysis of the effects of greenhouse gases on glacier surface changes was performed. In summary, the results reveal that satellite imagery is an excellent source of data on which to visualize glacier calving rates, comparing individual layers showing the position of the glacier calving front and calculating the area of calved ice.

Opis:
Bridge passing and passing waterway locks are two of the most challenging phases for inland vessel navigation. In order to be able to automate these critical phases very precise and reliable position, navigation and timing (PNT) information are required. Here, the application of code-based positioning using signals of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is not sufficient anymore and phase-based positioning needs to be applied. Due to the larger coverage area and the reduction of the amount of correction data Precise Point Positioning (PPP) has significant advantages compared to the established Real Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning. PPP is seen as the key enabler for highly automatic driving for both road and inland waterway transport. This paper gives an overview of the current status of the developments of the PPP algorithm, which should finally be applied in advanced driver assistant functions. For the final application State Space Representation (SSR) correction data from SAPOS (Satellitenpositionierungsdienst der deutschen Landesvermessung) will be used, which will be transmitted over VDES (VHF Data Exchange System), the next generation AIS.

Opis:
This study investigates the impact of macroeconomic instabilities on returns volatility spillover that is transmitted from the global to the Islamic equity market. The economic factors examined are the exchange rate, inflation rate, interest rate, and production growth. To achieve the purpose of the study, we utilize three analysis tools: a GARCH(p,q) model to derive values of volatility for all variables; an asymmetry dynamic conditional correlation (ADCC) model to produce a measure of volatility spillover as the dependent variable; and a panel data regression technique to assess the causality significance of macroeconomic factors to volatility spillover. This study is the first which expands such approaches. We observe monthly data of world and Islamic market indices, exchange rates, consumer price indices, interest rates, and industrial production indices. The data, which range from May 2002 to February 2019, are taken from the world market, and twenty-three economies, which consist of fourteen developed and nine emerging markets that have Islamic stock indices. In several sections, we provide important additional analysis for five stock markets in Central European economies, which are compared to the others. The finding suggests that the presence of volatility spillover on the Islamic markets that originates from the global market is affected by the internal instabilities of macroeconomic factors, except for industrial production instability for developed markets, including Central European markets. An implication of the study is that regulators should anticipate and prevent adverse consequences of volatility spillover by arranging their internal economic policy to control inflation rates, interest rates, and industrial production growth, as well as exchange rate flexibility. Moreover, market practitioners should include both global market volatility and macroeconomic instabilities in their prediction to create minimum risk.
Niniejsze badanie dotyczy wpływu niestabilności makroekonomicznej na przenoszenie zmienności stóp zwrotu z globalnego na islamski rynek akcji. Badane czynniki ekonomiczne to kurs walutowy, stopa inflacji, stopa procentowa i wzrost produkcji. Obserwowano miesięczne dane dotyczące światowych i islamskich indeksów rynkowych, kursów walutowych, wskaźników cen konsumpcyjnych, stóp procentowych i wskaźników produkcji przemysłowej. Dane z okresu od maja 2002 do lutego 2019 roku pochodzą z rynku światowego i dwudziestu trzech gospodarek – czternastu rozwiniętych i dziewięciu wschodzących rynków posiadających islamskie indeksy giełdowe.

Opis:
More than half of the incidents reported to EMSA relate to nautical events such as collision, groundings and contacts. Knowledge of accurate and high-integrity positioning is therefore not only a need for future automated shipping but a base for today’s safe navigation. Examples on accidents include Ever Given in the Suez Canal and HNoMS Helge Ingstad in Norway. A Network-RTK (NRTK) service can be used as an augmentation technique to improve performance of shipborne GNSS receivers for future positioning of manned and unmanned vessels in restricted areas, such as port areas, fairways, and inland water ways. NRTK service providers generate RTK corrections based on the observations of networks of GNSS reference stations which enables the users to determine their position with centimeter accuracy in real-time using a shipborne GNSS receiver. Selection of appropriate communication channels for dissemination of NRTK corrections data is the key to a secure positioning (localization) service. In PrePare-Ships project, the modern maritime communication system VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) is proposed to distribute SWEPOS (NRTK in Sweden) correction data to shipborne positioning modules. VDES is a very reliable technique and it is compatible with most onboard functionalities. In order to minimize the impact on the overall VDES data capacity in a local area, NRTK correction data shall only occupy a single VDES slot with a net capacity of 650 bytes. Update rates may vary but are preferably at 1Hz. However, NRTK correction data size changes instantly, depending on the number of visible GNSS satellites, and the data rate can therefore sometimes reach in excess of 1000 byte/s. In this study, a smart technique is proposed to reduce size of NRTK correction data to instantly adapt with the VDES requirements by choosing a combination of specific signals, satellites or even constellations such that the data rate is not more than 650 byte/s, and at the same time it achieves optimal positioning performance with the accuracy required by the PrePare-Ships project application.

The limitation in approachability to rainfall data sources with an appropriate spatial-temporal distribution is a significant challenge in different parts of the world. The development of general circulation models and mathematical algorithms has led to the generation of various rainfall products as new sources with the potential to overcome the shortage in datascarce basins. In this study, the performance of the PERSIANN-CCS and CMORPH satellite-based rainfall product, as well as the ERA5 and ERA-Interim reanalysis, was evaluated based on detection skill and quantitative metrics in a daily, monthly and seasonal time scales in the Dez basin located in the southwest of Iran. The basin has a wide topographic variation and scattered rain gauge stations. Overall results denote that the ERA5 dataset has the best performance in all statistic verification than other rainfall products. Based on the daily evaluation of all rainfall products, the false alarm rate (FAR) is higher than 0.5, so none of the datasets could capture the temporal variability of rainfall occurrence. This study has covered the western parts of the Zagros steep slopes in which the topographic conditions have a significant effect on the activity of rainfall systems. On a monthly scale, the mean value of the correlation coefficient (CC) for ERA5, ERA-Interim, PER-SIANN-CCS, and CMORPH was equal to 0.86, 0.85, 0.51, 0.39, respectively. The results of seasonal evaluation suggested that all datasets have better rainfall estimation in autumn and winter, and the capability of all datasets dramatically decreased in the spring. The current paper argues that the ERA5 reanalysis typically outperforms ERA-Interim and can be considered as a reliable rainfall source in the future hydrological investigation in the southwest of Iran.

The paper contributes to mental health studies of children and youth’s suicide and suicide attempts. Inspired by early sociological concepts such as Durkheim’s contribution to understanding suicide through social anomy, we ran statistical analysis of worldwide suicide rates and tested for correlation between suicide rates amongst children and youth and “Big Data” on social, educational, economic and environmental factors around the world. Amongst them we considered 88 variables including Human Development Index (HDI) and its indicators, rates of religious observance and denomination, and even the hours of sunlight and the average temperature in each country. The statistical section of the paper is preceded by the results of analysis from the anonymised mental health records of adolescents with suicidal and self-harming tendencies. The data came from a Polish psychotherapist and was accompanied by in-depth analysis of contributing factors from purposely selected, attempted suicide cases, in order to enrich the statistical perspective with biological, individual, environmental and situational factors. Finally, we identify trigger factors and protective indicators, derived from both the statistical and the empirical part of our study.

The paper proposes summarized attribution-based post-hoc explanations for the detection and identification of bias in data. A global explanation is proposed, and a step-by-step framework on how to detect and test bias is introduced. Since removing unwanted bias is often a complicated and tremendous task, it is automatically inserted, instead. Then, the bias is evaluated with the proposed counterfactual approach. The obtained results are validated on a sample skin lesion dataset. Using the proposed method, a number of possible bias-causing artifacts are successfully identified and confirmed in dermoscopy images. In particular, it is confirmed that black frames have a strong influence on Convolutional Neural Network’s prediction: 22% of them changed the prediction from benign to malignant.

An accurate short-term global solar irradiation (GHI) forecast is essential for integrating the photovoltaic systems into the electricity grid by reducing some of the problems caused by the intermittency of solar energy, including rapid fluctuations in energy, management storage, and the high costs of electricity. In this paper, the authors proposed a new hybrid approach to forecast hourly GHI for the Al-Hoceima city, Morocco. For this purpose, a deep long short-term memory network is trained on a combination of the hourly GHI ground measurements from the meteorological station of Al-Hoceima and the satellite-derived GHI from the neighbouring pixels of the point of interest. Xgboost, Random Forest, and Recursive Feature Elimination with cross-validation were used to select the most relevant features, the lagged satellite-derived GHI around the point of interest, as input to the proposed model where the best forecasting model is selected using the Grid Search algorithm. The simulation and results showed that the proposed approach gives high performance and outperformed other benchmark approaches.

Opis:
Do modelowania zależności wskaźnikow globalnego obciążenia chorobami od czynnikow społeczno‑ekonomicznych wykorzystane zostały dynamiczne przestrzenne modele panelowe z efektami ustalonymi (DSPD).
The aim of the paper is to study relationships between selected socio‑economic factors and health of European citizens. The health level is measured by selected global burden of disease measures – DALYs (Disability Adjusted Life Years) and its two components: YLL (Years of Life Lost) and YLD (Years Lived with Disability). We identify which factors significantly affect these indicators of health. The empirical study uses a panel data comprising 16 countries mostly from the old‑EU in the period 2003–2013. Fixed‑effects dynamic spatial panel data (DSPD) models are used to account for autocorrelations of the dependent variables across time and space. The models are estimated with a novel, modified quasi maximum likelihood Yang method based on M‑estimators. The approach is robust on the distribution of the initial observations. The empirical analysis covers specification, estimation, and verification of the models. The results show that changes in YLD are significantly related to alcohol consumption, healthcare spending, social spending, GDP growth rate and years of education. Exactly the same set of factors is associated with variation in DALYs. Sensitivity of the YLL component to the socio‑economic factors is considerably weaker.

The characteristic features of this stretch of the river are increasing water temperature, and the decreasing thickness and duration of ice cover. The largest water temperature increase is in summer, with a somewhat smaller increase in autumn. The increase of water temperature in spring is much less than the increase in air temperature. In summer, the gradient of water temperature increase is a little bit less than that of air temperature. In autumn, the gradient of water temperature increase is larger than the gradient of air temperature increase. From April to August the lowest water temperature is usually observed near the Kyivska hydropower plant (HPP), which is located upstream. During this period the water temperature downstream from HPP increases. The uneven daily operation of HPP causes the alternation of areas with different temperature along the Dnipro River. In the cold season the water temperature in the Dnipro River is usually higher than in other nearby urban water bodies. Freezing of the water area usually starts from the small and shallow lakes and ponds. The main branch of the Dnipro River freezes last. On the whole, the sequence of ice melting on the waterbodies is the reverse of the freezing process. The longest ice cover duration in spring is observed in the bays with small water exchange, mainly located at a large distance from Kyivska HPP.

Opis:
Tidal characteristics of the Gulf of Khambhat are described based on measured and modelled sea-level data. Data were recorded at three locations inside and two locations outside the Gulf with record lengths of 6–12 months to study the tidal propagation. A northward increase in tidal amplitude is noticed from Daman (eastern side) and Diu (western side) and attains maxima at Bhavnagar. A similar trend is followed by the amplitude of the major tidal constituents, although there are discrepancies for that of the minor constituents. The non-tidal factor which influences the sea-level is the local wind, especially the alongshore component of wind. A positive correlation is obtained between the sea-level and the meridional component of wind at each location. Harmonic analysis of sea-level data shows that M2 is the major tidal constituent which propagates in a non-linear fashion inside the Gulf. Tides from two global tide models (MIKE21 and FES2014) have been compared with the measured data, which could be used for further prediction of the tides and sediment transport in the Gulf. The tide elevation derived from the MIKE21 model has further been used for the harmonic analysis of tide. The tides predicted using one-month data are up to 10% smaller than those predicted using the one-year data. The global tide model FES2014 data performs well with measured data for offshore locations, whereas it fails to predict the same for the inner Gulf locations. The study manifests the fact that to understand the dynamics of complex tidal areas, regional models should better be used than global tidal models.
