Opis:
The article presents physicochemical, thermal and spectroscopic properties of two different glass systems: TeO2-GeO2-PbO-PbF2- BaO-Nb2O5-LaF3 and SiO2-Al2O3-Sb2O3, co-doped with Yb3+/Tm3+ ions. Blue upconversion luminescence at a wavelength of 478 nm corresponding to the thulium 1G43H6 transition was observed under 976 nm pump radiation in both of the co-doped glasses. This indicated the existence of efficient Yb3+ ⇥ Tm3+ energy transfer via three-photon absorption mechanism. Thermal and optical results substantiate the claim for practical applicability of the manufactured glasses in design of optical fiber sources.

Opis:
Ceramic materials are widely used in a variety of orthopaedic and dental applications. Over the last few years considerable attention has been directed towards the use of bioactive materials i.e. bioactive glasses and glass-ceramics. They have the ability to elicit a specific biological response at the interface of the material, which results in the formation of a bond between the tissues and the material. Bioactivity of glass mainly depends on the chemical composition, manufacturing process (melt and sol-gel derived glasses) and thermal treatment. The ions released from the glass surface can induce extracellular and intracellular response. Simultaneous activation of the numerous genes leads to proliferation of osteoblasts and expression of extracellular matrix components. The classification of ceramic materials based on the type of material-tissue interaction, the mechanism of glass bioactivity in physiological media, and the possibility of investigation of this phenomenon were presented. Furthermore, the properties comparison of melt-derived glasses and sol-gel-derived glasses was carried out.

Opis:
Tm3+/Ho3+ – doped antimony-silicate optical fibre with 2.1 ěm emission has been presented. Luminescence corresponding to 5I7 --> 5I8 transition in holmium was obtained by energy transfer between Tm3+ and Ho3+ ions. The analysis of the luminescence mechanism showed a significant influence of the glass composition (low phonon content) on the emission intensity. Optimization of the active elements content, presented in the paper, allowed to indicate that a strong emission intensity at 2 ěm in the fabricated glasses was obtained for the molar composition of 1% Tm2O3 : 0.75% Ho2O3. According to the F¨orster-Dexter theory, the efficiency of energy transfer of the 3F4 (Tm3+) --> 5I7 (Ho3+) transition was calculated. Moreover, it was found that the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of luminescence in the range of 1.6 – 2.2 ěm strongly depends on the Tm3+/Ho3+ ratio. The optimization of Tm3+/Ho3+ transfer in antimony-silicate glasses allowed to fabricate optical fibre with narrowing and red-shifting of emission at 2.1 ěm.

IR spectroscopy, density and ultrasonic velocity measurements have been carried out for aluminum lithium phosphate glasses with and without MoO3. The observed changes in the FTIR spectra of the glasses were related to the modifier/former role of molybdenum ions. The results revealed that the density increases with increasing MoO3 content, which was attributed to the increase in the compactness and packing of the glass network. The ultrasonic data were analyzed in terms of creation of new bonds of MoO3 attached to phosphate units. The new bonds increased the average crosslink density and the number of network bonds per unit volume along with a strengthening of the different modes of vibrations which in its turn increased the ultrasonic velocity, the rigidity and hence the elastic moduli of the glasses.

Opis:
In this study, eggshell powder obtained from eggshell waste was used as a dopant in soda-lime-silica glass powders. Various eggshell-doped soda-lime-silica glass samples were produced through melting, and the effect of the eggshell powders on the mechanical properties of the soda-lime-silica glasses was investigated by micro-Vickers indentation tests. The X-ray diffraction results of the eggshell-doped glasses showed that, depending on the dopant content, different phases such as gypsum, nepheline, alunogene, aragonite, cristobalite etc. appeared. These results were different from the X-ray diffraction patterns of pure soda-lime-silica glass powders, where the phases observed included sodium aluminium silicate, sodium aluminum oxide, and silicon oxide. Although the elastic modulus of soda-lime-silica glasses increased with the addition of the eggshell powders, the dopant powders also caused an increase in the hardness of the glasses. Furthermore, it was found that the fracture toughness increased for soda-lime-silica glasses with 0.5 and 1 wt% eggshell powder, while it decreased for samples with eggshell powder contents ≥1 wt%. This behaviour could be explained by an increased depolymerization in the network connectivity of the glass when the amount of eggshell dopant increases.

Opis:
In this paper, we report the complex crystallization kinetics of phase transition happening in Ti-Cu-based bulk metallic glasses (BMGs), which play significant roles in the glass formation with respect to their low reduced glass transition temperatures, Trg. The first exothermic event just occurs when annealing the BMG samples in the supercooled liquid region, leading to the Avrami exponent deviating from conventional modes affected by the residual amorphous phase. For Ti43Cu43Ni7Zr7 BMG, the plasticity can be improved by pre-annealing at a sub-Tg temperature of 623K (≈50K below Tg) for 0.5 hour, however, deteriorated by 1 hour annealing, which could be related to the change in stability of this BMG against crystallization with different pre-annealing times.

Opis:
In this study, sol-gel bioactive glasses and β-TCP composites were investigated regarding their thermal behaviour, microstructure, and phase composition. Sol-gel bioactive glasses based on the CaO-SiO2 -P2O5 system of either a high SiO2 content (S2) or a high CaO content (A2) were mixed with the β-TCP at 25:75, 50:50 and 75:25 weight ratios. Basing on the HSM results, i.e. shrinkage curves, densification intervals and characteristic temperatures, the sintering temperatures of composites were indicated. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to determine the microstructure and phase composition of composites after sintering at selected temperatures, i.e. 1100°C and 1200°C. The SEM/EDX investigations proved the well-sintered and densified microstructure of the sintered composites. The chemistry of sol-gel bioactive glasses influenced both the thermal beha-viour and the phase composition of the composites. The dominant phases for A2-β-TCP materials were α-TCP, pseudowollastonite and β-TCP, while for S2-β-TCP – cristobalite, β-TCP, and α-TCP. However, the content of each phase varied, depending on the A2 or S2 content in the composite composition. Hot-stage microscopy provides useful information for selecting optimal sintering temperature in order to obtain well-sintered and strengthened material. Moreover, by a carefully selected combination of sol-gel bioactive glasses and β-TCP it is possible to obtain the materials with favorable phase composition with regard to biological activity.

Opis:
To effectively transport materials through different means of transport, it is essential to have an optimized warehouse logistics first. Thanks to the Industry 4.0 platform, there are several ways to accomplish the delivery of materials from a warehouse through transport by road, rail or air. This paper deals with a primary warehouse problem, which is the fast and accurate search and selection of required items in the stock. For this issue, the use of smart glass technology and its implementation in the logistic processes of warehouses could help. In a particular way, an IRS (Integrated Rescue System) warehouse was selected as an example. The augmented reality (AR) type of glasses was selected. The introductory part of this paper deals with the current situation in the warehouse and logistic processes, where the problem of lack of qualified staff and material supply is prevalent, particularly during different crisis situations, such as pandemics or high employee turnovers. The use of smart glasses is one of the many possible problem-solving variants in this field. Further, a basic description of smart glasses, possible uses and sorting are presented in this paper. For the experiment, it was necessary to choose several different commercially available models of smart glasses. An evaluation was provided by the Simple comparative method, Saaty's method and Linear partial utility function method and the best options were identified. Also, there is an example of smart glasses application for picking a particular component in an IRS warehouse in the last part of this paper.

We report on the results of classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of str ucture of amorphous 15 Bi2O3 85 SiO2 [% mol] and 40 Bi2O3 60 SiO2 [% mol], and their totally reduced forms, 15 Bi2 85 SiO2 [% mol], and 40 Bi2 60 SiO2 [% mol], respectively. The simulations have been perfo rmed in the isobaric-isoenthalpic ensemble, using a two-body interaction potential. The set of the potential parameters was constructed as a suitable com bination of the parameters which were previously proposed for pure Bi2O3, and SiO2. Both unreduced, and reduced sy stems were initially prepared as well equilibrated hot melts, and then slowly co oled down to 300K. The structural information from the MD simulations was obtained from radial and angular distribution functions, static structural factors, Voronoi polyhedra sta tistics, and ring analysis. The simulation results can be summarised as follows. In unreduced glass with 15% [mol] Bi2O3 contents, the silicon structural units (mainly regular tetrahedra) form continuous network, whereas in 40% [mol] Bi2O3 glass these units are disconnected. In both unreduced systems Bi ions have mainly six-fold oxygen co-ordination, and no dominating structural unit can be individuated. However, the distorted bismu th units form a continuous network. In both totally reduced glasses (15% Bi2 85% SiO2, and 40% Bi2 60% SiO2 [% mol]), the silica network is built entirely from corner shari ng SiO4 tetrahedra. The structure of the silica subsystem is similar to that of pure *-SiO2. After the reduction, the Bi-Bi co-ordination significantly increases, whereas the first neighbour distance decreases. Moreover, partial static structural fact ors for Bi-Bi pairs indicate that the medium-range order in reduced glasses exhi bits greater periodicity than in unreduced glasses. Neutral Bi atoms form small clusters within the silica matrix.

Glasses doped with lanthanides ions may be good white light emitters due to their interesting physical and spectroscopic properties. In this paper, the optical spectroscopy of rare earths doped glasses with a special emphasis on application as white LED were presented. The luminescent glass materials containing Ln3+ (Ln = Pr, Tb, Dy) and Ce3+ ions were obtained. The glasses samples were prepared by a traditional melt-quenching technique. The optical properties of glasses containing various concentrations of rare earth ions were analyzed. It was observed that luminescence bands corresponding to characteristic transitions of Ln3+ and cerium ions are present on spectra measured under direct excitation of Ce3+. Therefore, it indicates that the energy transfer process between Ce3+ /Pr3+, Ce3+ /Tb3+, Ce3+ / Dy3+ ions in glasses occurs. Some parameters such as correlated color temperature (CCT) and chromaticity coordinates (CIE) that characterize white LEDs were analyzed and discussed in detail.

The paper is dedicated to a molecular dynamics (MD) study of the structure of partially reduced lead-silicate glass of composition 1Pb 1PbO 1SiO2. The simulations have been performed in the constant volume regime, using a two-body potential (Born-Mayer repulsive forces, and Coulomb forces due to full ionic charges). The system was initially prepared as a well equilibrated hot melt, and then slowly cooled down to 300K. The information on short-range correlations were obtained in a conventional way (from pair and angular distribution functions), while the medium-range order was studied via cation-anion ring analysis. In the paper, the short- and medium-range order in the simulated system is discussed and compared with the structure of a glassy completely reduced system, i.e. 2Pb 1SiO2 and unreduced one, i.e. 2PbO 1SiO2 glass.

The differential scanning calorimetry measurements were made on a series of bismuth-iron-phosphate glasses over a temperature range around the glass transition temperature. The activation energy for structural relaxation, ΔH, was determined and found to increase with the metal-to-phosphorus ratio. The differential scanning calorimetry data were analyzed using the Adam-Gibbs-Scherer model of the glass transition. This analysis suggests that these glasses undergo a transition from the strong to the fragile glass regime as the metal-to-phosphorus ratio is increased.
