Opis:
Behind the meaning of social keywords often there are meanings dependent on time, group and discourse. In a particular usage, these meanings resonate subliminally. These hidden, but sometimes very effective meanings are the subject of the so-called “sub-semantics” and are difficult to record in dictionaries. Against this backdrop, I consider the question of what makes a catchword so catchy based on many examples. Thereby, I focus on so-called “Teflon words” such as “success” which have the ability to drip off any criticism, doubt or common sense like in a Teflon pan. In particular, it is about the question why certain words especially from the fields of consumption, economy and politics have such a highly collective “self-persuasiveness” for certain groups and periods of time. In the attempt to answer these questions I refer to the Polish philosopher of science Ludwik Fleck.

Dieser Artikel fasst die Aktivitäten und Erträge des Projekts „Germanistische Institutspartnerschaft“ (GIP) von 2016 bis 2019 zusammen, an dem Wissenschaftler*innen, Doktorand*innen und Studierende der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg und der Adam-Mickiewicz-Universität Poznań mitwirkten. Durch das vom DAAD geförderte Projekt konnten die beiden Germanistiken ihre Zusammenarbeit in Forschung und Lehre intensivieren. Das Projekt gab auch Studierenden beider Hochschulen die Möglichkeit, gemeinsame Lehrveranstaltungen zu besuchen und gemeinsame Projekte durchzuführen.

Anhand einer Reihe von autobiographischen „Selfies“ wird ein Leben als eine Folge von aufgeschnappten Meinungen konfrontiert. Vor allem mit dem, was Gerd Antos in und mit der Linguistik im Laufe sejner Karriere dazugelernt hat. Linguistik sozusagen als ein lebenslanges learning by doing.
Through a series of autobiographical snapshots the author confronts his life as a sequence of picked‑up views. The emphasis will be on the new things Gerd Antos learned with and within linguistics over the course of his career. Linguistics as a life‑long ‘learning by doing’ as it were.

Czynności mówienia i pokazywania mają zasadnicze znaczenie w masowej komunikacji medialnej. Akt postrzegania jest kluczowym momentem w interakcji odbiorcy ze znakami i tekstami, co do których można założyć, że opierają się na posiadaniu pewnych zasobów wiedzy, która w trakcie procesu interpretacji jest przekazywana i uwalniana. Stale rosnąca liczba interakcji znaków w tekstach medialnych oraz ich coraz większa złożoność wymaga odpowiedniej, przeprowadzonej w sposób naukowy eksploracji, a tym samym zakotwiczenia w nowej dyscyplinie – lingwistyce obrazu. Na tle multimodalnej lingwistyki tekstu pod dyskusję poddane zostaną podstawowe modalności w wymiarze makro (design tekstu, typografia, relacje język–obraz), założenia metodologiczne, jak również perspektywy rozwojowe lingwistyki obrazu.

This article is a review of a book by G. Hentschel, J. Tambor and I. Fekete Das Schlesische und seine Sprecher. Etablierung in der Gesellschaft, Attitüden, Vitalität der Germanismen. / Śląski lekt i jego użytkownicy. Rozpowszechnienie, postawy społeczne wobec śląszczyzny, żywotność germanizmów w lekcie śląskim (2022). It is a German-Polish monograph which comprehensively presents research on the vitality of contemporary Silesian, based on a survey of almost 2,000 people in various age groups. The analyses were conducted using a number of quantitative and statistical methods, taking into account precisely illustrated sociolinguistic aspects (such as age, education, occupation, origin, the use of Silesian and Polish in everyday life, knowledge of German and other languages, attitude towards Silesian and Polish, identity).
Artykuł Socjolingwistyczne aspekty badania żywotności lektu śląskiego jest recenzją książki G. Hentschela, J. Tambor i I. Fekete Das Schlesische und seine Sprecher. Etablierung in der Gesellschaft, Attitüden, Vitalität der Germanismen. / Śląski lekt i jego użytkownicy. Rozpowszechnienie, postawy społeczne wobec śląszczyzny, żywotność germanizmów w lekcie śląskim (2022). Jest to niemiecko-polska monografia, która w kompleksowy sposób przedstawia badania nad żywotnością współczesnej śląszczyzny. Badania ankietowe przeprowadzono wśród prawie 2000 osób w różnych grupach wiekowych. Analizy powstały za pomocą szeregu metod ilościowych i statystycznych, przy uwzględnieniu dokładnie zobrazowanych aspektów socjolingwistycznych (takich jak wiek, wykształcenie, zawód, pochodzenie, używanie mowy śląskiej i polskiej w życiu codziennym, znajomość języka niemieckiego i innych, nastawienie wobec śląszczyzny i polszczyzny, tożsamość).

During the last century about 100 indices were developed to assess influences of the atmosphere on human being. However, most of them have not close relationships with physiological reactions in man. In 1999 International Society of Biometeorology established special study group do develop new Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). Since 2005 these efforts have been reinforced by the COST Action 730 (Cooperation in Science and Technical Development). In February 2009 the Action was terminated and UTCI was developed. The new UTCI index represents air temperature of the reference condition with the same physiological response as the actual condition. The index base on Fiala model that is one of the most advanced multi-node thermophysiological models and include the capability to predict both whole body thermal effects (hypothermia and hyperthermia; heat and cold discomfort), and local effects (facial, hands and feet cooling and frostbite). The model consists of two interacting systems: the controlling active system; and the controlled passive system. The assessment scale of UTCI bases on the intensity of objective physiological reactions to environmental heat stress in wide range of weather and climates. The index can be applicable in various research, for example in weather forecasts, bioclimatological assessments, bioclimatic mapping in all scales (from micro to macro), urban design, engineering of outdoor spaces, consultancy for where to live, outdoor recreation and climatotherapy, epidemiology and climate impact research. The paper presents thermophysiological principles of UTCI as well as some examples of its application to assess bioclimatic differentiation of Europe.

The here presented contribution will forecast the future of NDT, even if this is difficult, because of many uncertainties. Large NDT conferences offer the opportunity to statistically evaluate the most popular topics which are in the actual interest of the NDT community. The author, engaged as subject editor of the Journal NDT&E International, will discuss his experience with peer-reviewed papers too. Worldwide, especially politicians talk about the next industrial revolution, using «catchwords» like digitization, big data, robotics, artificial intelligence, high powerful computing, cloud computing, intelligent manufacturing, etc. We have a global competition; China alone will invest in R&D of artificial intelligence (AI) in the next five years 150 billion $US. However, all R&D projects to these topics are primarily not NDT developing programs. But, NDT will follow the mainstream and will participate in hardware and software developments, to adapt them for its own needs. The contribution discusses tendencies of developments, for instance, in additive manufacturing where NDT is utilized in real-time to feed-back control, to produce - «on-line closed-loop» - the quality. Two special innovations are discussed; one is to the non-linear phenomenon of Local Defect Resonances in visco-elastic materials, the other to Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSEL), a new, powerful, and flexible heat source in Thermal Testing.
Niniejsza praca przedstawia prognozę przyszłości badań nieniszczących (BN), nawet jeśli jest to trudne z powodu wielu niewiadomych. Duże konferencje dotyczące BN dają możliwość przeprowadzenia statystycznej oceny najpopularniejszych tematów, którymi aktualnie interesuje się społeczność BN. Autor, pełniący funkcję redaktora działowego w Journal NDT & E International, omówi również swoje doświadczenia z recenzowanymi artykułami. Na całym świecie, zwłaszcza politycy, mówią o kolejnej rewolucji przemysłowej, używając „haseł”, takich jak cyfryzacja, big data, robotyka, sztuczna inteligencja, obliczenia o dużej mocy, przetwarzanie w chmurze, inteligentna produkcja itp. Mamy globalną konkurencję a same Chiny zainwestują w badania i rozwój sztucznej inteligencji (AI) w ciągu najbliższych pięciu lat 150 miliardów dolarów. Wszystkie te projekty badawczo-rozwojowe z wymienionej tematyki nie dotyczą rozwoju BN. Jednakże, BN będą podążać za głównym nurtem i będą korzystać z rozwoju sprzętu i oprogramowania, adaptując je do własnych potrzeb. Artykuł omawia tendencje rozwojowe, na przykładzie sytuacji występującej w przypadku produkcji przyrostowej, gdzie BN są wykorzystywane w czasie rzeczywistym do sterowania sprzężeniem zwrotnym, zapewniającym jakość. Omówiono zostaną dwie innowacje: jedną z nich jest nieliniowe zjawisko lokalnych rezonansów wokół defektów w materiałach wiskoelastycznych, a drugim są lasery o emisji powierzchniowej z pionową wnęką rezonansową (VCSEL), nowe, mocne i adaptywne źródło wzbudzenia w badaniach termograficznych.

We give a special normal form for a non-semiquadratic hyperbolic CR-manifold M of codimension 2 in ℂ⁴, i.e., a construction of coordinates where the equation of M satisfies certain conditions. The coordinates are determined up to a linear coordinate change.

A set S is an offensive alliance if for every vertex v in its boundary N(S)- S it holds that the majority of vertices in v's closed neighbourhood are in S. The offensive alliance number is the minimum cardinality of an offensive alliance. In this paper we explore the bounds on the offensive alliance and the strong offensive alliance numbers (where a strict majority is required). In particular, we show that the offensive alliance number is at most 2/3 the order and the strong offensive alliance number is at most 5/6 the order.
