W tym artykule autor podsumował dyskusję na temat pojawiającego się w literaturze przedmiotu procesu o czary w Doruchowie w 1775 r. Oprócz anonimowej Relacyi naocznego świadka opublikowanej w 1835 r. na łamach „Przyjaciela Ludu” oraz ankiety z 1828 r., brak jest przesłanek, które jednoznacznie pozwoliłyby stwierdzić, że taki proces rzeczywiście przeprowadzono i na mocy wyroku życie straciło aż 14 kobiet. Proces ten jest – zdaniem autora – mitem, a autor Relacyi… z wiadomych tylko sobie powodów umiejscowił go w Doruchowie w tym konkretnym roku. Z całą pewnością jedyny proces o czary, potwierdzony źródłowo, przeprowadzono w Doruchowie w 1762 r.
In this article, the author summarized the discussion on the theme emerging in the subject literature on Doruchów witchcraft trial of 1775. Except for the anonymous eyewitness account [Relacya], published in 1835 in the column of the “Przyjaciel Ludu” [Friend of the People] and a survey of 1828, there is no definite indication that such trial actually took place, and that up to fourteen women lost their lives after having been sentenced to death. The author of this article maintains that the trial is a myth, and the author of Relacya set it in Doruchów in that particular year for the reasons known only to himself. With all certainty, the only witchcraft trial confirmed by sources took place in Doruchów in 1762.

The article surveys the problem of non-binary gender in the context of linguistic experience of speakers of Polish. The first part deals with the notion of non-binary gender, the second part discusses its linguistic aspects, the third part presents the results of a questionnaire conducted among non-binary Polish speakers, the fourth part concludes the discussion and points to possible directions of further research.
Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu zarysowanie zjawiska niebinarności płciowej i doświadczeń językowych osób niebinarnych posługujących się językiem polskim. W części pierwszej mowa o pojęciu niebinarności płciowej, w drugiej – omawiane są jego językowe aspekty, w trzeciej – prezentowane wyniki przeprowadzonego przez autorkę badania ankietowego wśród polskojęzycznych osób niebinarnych; w części czwartej następuje podsumowanie rozważań i wskazanie możliwych kierunków dalszych badań.

Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób można badać relacje między płcią nadawcy a kształtem wypowiedzi, jakie podobieństwa bądź rozbieżności ujawniają są w przedstawianych fragmentach męskiego i kobiecego świata oraz w jakim stopniu otrzymany obraz przystaje do zachowań językowych stereotypowo wiązanych z płcią. Przedmiotem analizy są dwa teksty, tzw. świadectwa [nawrócenia]. Jako metodę zastosowano krytyczną analizę dyskursu uzupełnioną, proponowanym przez kognitywistów, profilowaniem. Główne, poddane wersyfikacji, tezy o różnicach w dyskursie żeńskim i męskim dotyczą zakresu tematycznego, stopnia subiektywizacji tekstu, jego nasycenia emocjonalizmami oraz odzwierciedlającej się w wypowiedziach biernej lub czynnej postawy nadawcy wobec życia.

The purpose of this study was to examine how gender of young adults in Taiwan affected the ability of their hands to apply force regarding the use of the left or right hand and the varying sequences of force application. Maximal voluntary contraction of grip (MVC g) and hand-grip control (HGC 50%) of 200 participants was measured. The study discovered that gender showed significant differences in the scale of MVC g, whereas there were no significant differences in HGC 50%. Left hand versus right hand resulted in significant differences in the scale of MVC g, whereas there were no significant differences in the scale of HGC 50%. The 5 levels of the sequence of force application showed no significant differences in either MVC g or HGC 50%. The interactive effects of the 3 factors (gender, hand, and sequence of force application) showed no significant differences. The results of the study can serve as a reference in designing tools.

The promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment has been a goal of the United Nations Organization and its specialized agencies, within each one's particular scope of competencies. The World Maritime University (WMU), a postgraduate maritime university founded by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has put in place its own policies to promote the participation of women in the maritime transport sector. The main idea behind this case study analysis is to look at how WMU's policies on gender equality and women's empowerment have evolved over time; their impact on student and employee body, curriculum, conferences and seminars; and propose areas for improvement. This research is aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of an ongoing process by exploring enrolment and hiring statistics, documents and related articles over a period of 34 years (from 1983 to 2017).

The purpose of this paper was to assess the evolution of sports coverage regarding gender in online newspapers in two western societies Spain and the United States, in a period of ten years (2004 vs. 2014). A total of 2,951 articles with athletic content from the online newspapers usatoday.com and elmundo.es were analyzed. The variables registered were gender, placement in the newspaper, word count, inclusion of photographs, and the sports disciplines. The results show a significant reduction in sports articles in the two online newspapers for both genders. This reduction resulted in a decrease in the variability of sports articles. Further, there was a significant imbalance in sports news between the two genders. There was a significant reduction in the proportion of sports articles in both online newspapers for women, significantly reducing the accessibility of articles about women’s sports. The gender imbalance was higher in the Spanish newspaper than in the U.S. newspaper. The gender imbalance was higher in the Spanish newspaper than in the U.S. newspaper. Both online newspapers showed an image of sport that is male-orientated, focused on elite-level sport and with an overall low number of sport disciplines.

The purpose of the text is to present the characters of girls and boys in favorite positions books indicated by elementary school students. These book’s characters are analyzed primarily in terms of gender stereotypes. Contact child with a book is an indispensable part of school education (required reading) while going beyond the framework of formal education (reading of choice). The text also points to the importance of reading in the educational process, particularly for gender education in the context of formation social gender roles.
Celem tekstu jest przedstawienie postaci dziewcząt i chłopców z ulubionych pozycji książkowych wskazanych przez uczennice i uczniów szkoły podstawowej. Obrazy te są analizowane przede wszystkim w kontekście stereotypów płci. Kontakt dziecka z książką stanowi nieodzowną część edukacji szkolnej (obowiązkowe lektury), ale wykracza poza ramy formalnej edukacji (czytanie z wyboru). Tekst wskazuje również na znaczenie czytelnictwa w procesie edukacyjnym, w szczególności dla edukacji rodzajowej w kontekście kształtowania społecznych ról płciowych.

Social innovation is the search for new and conclusive solutions to social problems aimed at improving the welfare of individuals and communities. Studies on social innovation and its implementation, especially with regard to the importance of gender equality and the impact of the gendered perspective on the implementation of such social innovations, are still scarce. Based on Gabriel Tarde’s social theory, our study shows the urgency of addressing pressing social problems. The research objective is to statistically assess the implementation of social innovation in India, specifically from a gendered perspective. 400 responses were collected in August and September 2021 through a structured survey questionnaire which used simple random sampling of probability sampling method. The responses came from the northern states of India (especially Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh). The data analysis was done by means of statistical tests (using the SPSS 25 program) after validating the concepts, and was based on the results of frequency and percentage distribution of responses, one-sample t-test, ANOVA and correlation-regression tests. The study concludes that gender plays an important role in the implementation of social innovation in India, and gender equality must be incorporated into every facet of social innovation to reach its full potential and benefit everyone.
Innowacje społeczne to poszukiwanie rozwiązań dla problemów społecznych, a ich celem jest wzrost dobrobytu zarówno jednostek, jak i społeczności. Badania na temat innowacji społecznych i ich wdrażania, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do znaczenia równości płci dla postępu społecznego, są jednak nieliczne. Badanie omawiane w niniejszym artykule opiera się na teorii społecznej Gabriela Tarde’a i ujawnia potrzebę pilnego rozwiązania palących problemów społecznych. Jego celem jest statystyczna ocena wdrażania innowacji społecznych w Indiach, uwzględniająca perspektywę równości płci. Dane uzyskano od 400 uczestników badania ankietowego, które przeprowadzono w sierpniu i we wrześniu 2021 r. w północnych Indiach (głównie w stanach Pendżab, Radżastan i Uttar Pradesh oraz w Delhi) z zastosowaniem techniki losowania prostego z probabilistycznym doborem próby. Analizy danych dokonano za pomocą testów statystycznych (z wykorzystaniem programu SPSS 25) po walidacji koncepcji i oparto na wynikach częstości i procentowego rozkładu odpowiedzi, jednopróbkowego testu t i jednokierunkowego testu ANOVA oraz testów korelacji i regresji. Z badania wynika, że zagadnienia dotyczące płci odgrywają ważną rolę we wdrażaniu innowacji społecznych. Aby potencjał koncepcji innowacyjnych został w pełni wykorzystany i aby ich realizacja przyniosła wszystkim korzyści, każdy aspekt innowacji społecznych powinien uwzględniać równość płci.

This study contributes to understanding early-career entry-level women's discrimination by analyzing the drivers of gender discrimination in entry-level jobs in the Malaysian retail sector. It uses vulnerability theory to explain the susceptibility of women and the conditions and perceptions that lead to their discrimination through a cross-lagged study. The study sample consisted of 349 women working in the Malaysian retail industry in Klang Valley. The findings reveal that several factors make women vulnerable in the Malaysian retail sector, including economic compulsion, organizational injustice, stereotyping and perceived social discrimination. Perceptions and practices become stronger over time. However, resilience can moderate vulnerabilities and, therefore, reduce women's discrimination. The significance of this study lies in its ability to understand vulnerability-enhancing discriminators and the utilization of resilience to address them.
Niniejsze badanie przyczynia się do zrozumienia dyskryminacji kobiet na początku kariery zawodowej, analizując przyczyny dyskryminacji ze względu na płeć w początkowych pracach w malezyjskim sektorze detalicznym. Wykorzystuje teorię podatności, aby wyjaśnić podatność kobiet oraz warunki i percepcje, które prowadzą do ich dyskryminacji poprzez badanie cross-lagged. Próba badawcza składała się z 349 kobiet pracujących w malezyjskiej branży detalicznej w Klang Valley. Wyniki pokazują, że kilka czynników sprawia, że kobiety w malezyjskim sektorze handlu detalicznego są narażone, w tym przymus ekonomiczny, niesprawiedliwość organizacyjna, stereotypy i postrzegana dyskryminacja społeczna. Postrzeganie i praktyki stają się z czasem silniejsze. Jednak odporność może łagodzić podatność na zagrożenia, a tym samym zmniejszać dyskryminację kobiet. Znaczenie tego badania polega na jego zdolności do zrozumienia czynników dyskryminujących zwiększających podatność na zagrożenia i wykorzystania odporności do ich rozwiązania.

Background. . In Western societies, gender differences in health and health behavior are extensively documented, but less is known about gender health disparities in Morocco. Aging is not yet a research topic or a source of concern. However, the country will face significant demographic aging in the future. Objective. The purpose of this study was to investigate gender differences in indicators associated with socioeconomic status, health status, and access to health care among the elderly population of the El Jadida region in Morocco. Material and methods. It is a cross-sectional study on a random sample of 537 persons, aged 60 and older (136 women and 401 men) from the El Jadida region. Results. When compared to their male counterparts, older Moroccan women face a number of disadvantages, including lower levels of education and literacy, lower levels of employment, rising rates of widowhood and living alone, and a lower likelihood of receiving formal pension benefits. In terms of health status, half of older women do not have medical coverage, almost all feel more tired, and, in discomfort, half suffer from total and central obesity, with more visual, oral, and memory health problems. Older Moroccan men, on the other hand, have greater hypertension, smoke and consume more tobacco and alcohol, and are more anxious, depressed, and insomniac. Overall, for both sexes, the perception of self-rated health status was deemed poor, with three health problems reported per person. Many other demographic, psychosocial, and economic indicators were not significantly related to gender. Conclusions. In Morocco, older people face a variety of problems that have a negative impact on their perception of aging. Furthermore, there are gender differences in socioeconomic status, prevalence, symptoms, and correlates of chronic diseases, health service use, and lifestyle. Longitudinal studies and immediate implementation of medical policy for this population are needed.

This paper aims to determine whether there is an association between gender and mobile shopping buying behavior both during and post-COVID-19 period. Three types of categorical variables were defined: the installation of mobile shopping apps before the pandemic, the use of mobile shopping apps before the pandemic, and the decision to stop using mobile shopping apps after the pandemic. In a pilot study, the population only included Polish respondents. The field survey method was applied to collect the primary data. In April 2021, the survey was launched via social media. Primary data were collected from 102 respondents. The nonparametric statistical method was selected as a suitable analytical technique and the chi-square test of independence was used to test the hypotheses. According to the pilot study, gender does not influence installation of mobile shopping apps before the pandemic, the use of mobile shopping apps before the pandemic, or the intention to stop using mobile shopping apps after the COVID-19 period. The findings are significant for mobile shopping application developers, modern trades, and business decision-makers in the Polish market. Meanwhile, the applied research methodology is most relevant for future similar kinds of research studies.
Celem artykułu jest ustalenie, czy istnieje związek między płcią a zachowaniami związanymi z zakupami mobilnymi podczas COVID-19 i okresie postcovidowym. Zdefiniowano trzy rodzaje zmiennych zależnych: instalacja aplikacji do zakupów mobilnych przed pandemią, korzystanie z aplikacji do zakupów mobilnych przed pandemią oraz pomysł zaprzestania korzystania z aplikacji do zakupów mobilnych po pandemii. Populację w badaniu pilotażowym stanowili polscy respondenci. Badanie ankietowe zostało uruchomione za pośrednictwem mediów społecznościowych w kwietniu 2021 r. Dane pierwotne zostały zebrane od 102 respondentów. Jako technikę analityczną zastosowano nieparametryczną metodę statystyczną, wykorzystując test niezależności chi-kwadrat do sprawdzenia hipotez badawczych. Badanie pilotażowe wykazało, że nie było istotnego związku między płcią a instalowaniem mobilnych aplikacji zakupowych przed pandemią, między płcią a korzystaniem z aplikacji do zakupów mobilnych przed pandemią, oraz między płcią a decyzją o zaprzestaniu korzystania z aplikacji do zakupów mobilnych po pandemii. Wyniki są istotne dla twórców aplikacji do zakupów mobilnych, nowoczesnych branż i decydentów biznesowych na polskim rynku, a zastosowana metodologia badań jest odpowiednia dla prowadzenia analogicznych badań naukowych w przyszłości.

La luna, el símbolo de la muerte en la poesía lorquiana, en el Romance de la luna, luna se convierte en una mujer encantadora que pretende seducir al niño con fin de raptarlo (Arango 1995: 60). Es una imagen consistente para cada hispanohablante dado el género gramatical femenino de la voz “luna” y el hecho de que en la cultura de habla hispana la muerte es normalmente personificada como mujer (Guthke 1999: 7). No obstante, ¿qué ocurre al traducir el poema a un idioma en el que el equivalente del vocablo “luna” y las asociaciones que provoca vienen a ser de género (gramatical) masculino? El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar dos traducciones más recientes del romance lorquiano al polaco –Romanca o lunie, lunie de Leszek Engelking (2017) y Romanca o księżycu, księżycu de Jacek Lyszczyna (2017)– haciendo hincapié en el problema del género gramatical en la traducción de la voz “luna”. El punto de partida para la autora será la tesis de que la traducción poética viene a ser una reconstrucción de la visión/imagen lingüística del mundo (językowy obraz świata, linguistic image of the world/worldview) no estándar que, a su vez, surge de la visión/imagen lingüística del mundo estándar, es decir, de la interpretación del mundo común en una lengua y cultura determinadas (Gicala 2018).
In Romance de la luna, luna the moon, a symbol of death in Lorca’s poetry, is portrayed as a charming woman who tries to seduce a boy in order to kidnap him (Arango 1995: 60). Given the feminine grammatical gender of the lexeme luna and the fact that in the Spanish and Latin American culture death is usually personified as a woman (Guthke 1999: 7), such image does not seem strange or unusual to the Spanish speakers. However, what will happen if we translate the poem into a language in which the equivalent of the word luna is of the masculine grammatical gender? The paper aims to examine two most recent Polish translations of García Lorca’s romance – Romanca o lunie, lunie by Leszek Engelking (2017) and Romanca o księżycu, księżycu by Jacek Lyszczyna (2017) – with a particular focus on the problem of grammatical gender in translation of the lexeme luna. The starting point for the author will be a thesis that any literary translation is a reconstruction of a non-standard linguistic picture of the world/linguistic worldview (językowy obraz świata) which, in turn, arises from a standard linguistic worldview embedded in each language, i.e., from the interpretation of the world in given language and culture shared by its speakers (Gicala 2018).

The paper first contextualizes femicide in the broader context of domestic violence, and homicide in the Republic of Cyprus. It then goes on to report a qualitative study of eighteen intimate partner femicide (IPF) orphans during the period 2001-2014. Findings concerning IPF, offender, and victim characteristics but also pertaining to a broad range of themes that emerged in the face-to-face interviews with the orphans are also reported and discussed. In support of theoretical notions of power and control and gender inequality, the study reported also documents of a prior history of serious conflict, physical, verbal, and psychological abuse of the IPF victim by a jealous, possessive, controlling, and oppressive violent male partner or ex-partner. Evidence is provided of the tragic inability of the authorities to heed numerous warning signs and threats-to-kill by the offender and so avert such murders. Finally, attention turns to the policy and research implications of the findings with emphasis on lethal domestic violence prevention and better support of the orphans involved.

This longitudinal study explores two specific aspects of the acquisition of grammatical gender in L2 Swedish: the use of a default gender and surface transfer. Twenty-one L1 Polish university students of L2 Swedish were tested by means of an untimed gender assignment task after two, three, and four semesters of studying. The data were analysed using a two-way ANOVA for repeated measures. Participants had more success in assigning gender to Swedish nouns that shared gender across Polish and Swedish than to Swedish nouns that differed in gender across the two languages, regardless of length of experience in learning Swedish. Contrary to previous studies that observed overgeneralisation of uter gender forms in production, this study did not identify the tendency to use uter as a default, presumably because participants had unlimited time to perform the task. This finding points to a dissociation between the knowledge of grammatical gender and the ability to use it during processing.

Aim Caste studies conducted among Muslims in India generally focus on establishing the existence of caste system among Muslims but they seldom talk about different types of oppression and inequalities faced byMuslim women.This empirical study exploreshow gender and caste identities and their mutual intersectionality impact education,occupation and income choices and actual attainments of Muslim women. Methods This study is part of a larger study conducted among Muslims of Kashmir in India.Primary datawas collected from 704 eligible respondents (Male=392, Female=312) using mixed methods. Three layers of ‘caste like’ and ‘caste’ groups existing in the research area are identified and gender situation within these groups are comparatively examined. Results Each of the ‘caste like’ and ‘caste’ groupshas patriarchal caste capital.Higher professions within the government and private services are largely acquired by upper caste male Muslims or other male and female Muslims having rich cultural and social capital. There is preponderance of lower caste male Muslims in low income self-employment but lower caste Muslim females seldom find say in family based business and compelled to join low paid private jobs. More than fifty percent educated Muslim females are unemployed. Conclusion Although patriarchy is the general rule here, not all women face discrimination and inequality in the same way. Upper caste Muslim women often witness so called benevolent restriction of choices whereas lower caste women are the most excluded and marginalised section of the society who face double discrimination due to patriarchy and interwoven caste positions which severely impacts their educational as well as employment choices and attainments.

The aim of the study was to analyse teachers’ interactions with students in order to track the differences in the messages given to pupils depending on their gender, and to study the opinions of students about the behaviour of their teachers. As part of the research, 34 hours of lessons (divided into 17 hours of mathematics and 17 hours of Polish language lessons) were observed. Additionally, the opinions of 68 students (34 girls and 34 boys) were analysed. The study employs mixed methods of data analysis (Stromquist 2007), combining a qualitative approach based on elements of grounded theory (Glaser, Strauss 2017) with quantitative comparisons of the frequency of the teacher’s behavior, using χ2 tests. The results indicate the differing nature of teachers’ interactions with girls and boys; the number of interactions and their quality are more favourable in the case of boys. Girls are more often overlooked, and their achievements and contributions are less frequently noticed. In addition, students are aware of the differences in how they are treated by their teachers, pointing out, inter alia, to the importance of providing equal treatment to all students.
Celem badania była analiza interakcji nauczycieli z uczniami w celu prześledzenia różnic w przekazywanych komunikatach w zależności od płci ucznia oraz analiza opinii uczniów na temat zachowania nauczycieli. Obserwowano 34 godziny lekcji, czyli 17 godzin matematyki i 17 godzin lekcji języka polskiego. Dodatkowo przeanalizowano opinie 68 uczniów, 34 dziewcząt i 34 chłopców. W badaniu wykorzystano mieszane metody analizy danych (Stromquist 2007), łącząc podejście jakościowe oparte na elementach teorii ugruntowanej (Glaser, Strauss 2017) oraz ilościowe porównania częstotliwości zachowań nauczyciela z wykorzystaniem testów χ2. Wyniki wskazują na różny charakter interakcji nauczycieli z dziewczętami i chłopcami; liczba interakcji i ich jakość są korzystniejsze w przypadku chłopców. Dziewczęta są częściej pomijane, a ich osiągnięcia i wkład są rzadziej dostrzegane. Ponadto uczniowie są świadomi różnic w sposobie traktowania przez nauczyciela, podkreślając m.in. znaczenie równego traktowania wszystkich uczniów.

Background: Gender roles have been defined as the roles and responsibilities attributed by the society to women (feminine) and men (masculine) and how the society views, perceives, thinks of them and the expectations of the society about how they should behave. Awareness should be increased in nurses so that they can take a look at their own lives critically. This study was conducted to find out the views of nurses about gender role attitudes. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 200 nurses who agreed to participate in the study in a training and research hospital between June 15 and August 15, 2017. The data were collected through face to face interview with a questionnaire form. Questionnaire form consists of descriptive characteristics form and Gender Role Attitudes Scale (GRAS). Descriptive and analytical statistics were used in the assessment of data. Results: Average age of the nurses who participated in the study was found as 30.37±7.28. It was found that 83.5% of the nurses had not received any education for gender roles. It was found that almost half of the nurses thought the best aspect of being a man was “being free”, while the best aspect of being a woman was “being a mother”; it was also found that men should not “show violence” and women should not “be unfaithful”; both genders should be taught to “be respectful” and “not be allowed to be disrespectful”. Nurses’ average GRAS score of 121.18±11.37 showed that they had equalitarian attitude about gender roles. Conclusion: The results that nurses can look at their own lives with a critical eye and have an equalitarian attitude in gender roles are significant in terms of more quality and equality-based health services.

In this paper we show the results of an analysis of the production of individual class subjectivities in the context of strikes among both those in favour and those against. Among the several processes going on in the production of subjectivities of class, we consider strikes because we want to emphasise the active role that the subjects keep up within the class relationships of domination and exploitation. We start from a conception of the subjectivity understood as fragmentary and contingent that we apply to our analysis of class, but in this paper we limit production of individual subjectivities to context of strikes. Our analysis focuses on a case study from the beginning of the 1970s to the end of the 1990s, which was led by the workers of a company in the motor industry, situated in Catalonia. The main devices used to work on the empirical material are biographical interviews and informative interviews. We start the analysis by showing the various directions taken by that the subjectivities of workers and of the company in strike interactions, in individual terms. Then we look into the role of gender in the provisional configuration of these subjectivities in the context of a strike when these subjectivities became collective subjectivities. In this respect, we focus on the company’s workers.

Objective: In this article we attempt to shed light on the changing attitudes American workers may have, specifically authoritarian personality characteristics, by reviewing the results obtained from our survey of 74 retired auto workers. Research Design & Methods: Part of our survey utilizes the Zakrisson short version of the Right-Wing Authoritarian scale and our interests are to provide any differences found between men and women. Also, we seek to test for the presence of authoritarianism as one aspect to understand the appeal of right-wing politics among the white working class. Findings: Our findings indicate that men and women are each no more or less likely to develop authoritarian personality characteristics. The differences by gender that we found in our case-study mirror the literature over the last several decades since empirical research began in 1950 – ambivalence. Implications/Recommendations: As a discontented citizenry searches for answers, by leaning more politically right or left will gender differences widen or converge due to the issues. Contribution/Value Added: Given the current social and economic climate in the United States we find this research study to be both timely and important. A conservative or liberal orientation by American workers may have important contributions for the direction the US takes not only on pressing economic and social issues at home but abroad as well.

Emotions in humans are subjective conscious experience characterized by psycho-physiological expressions and behavioral reactions. It may act as tool, if positively identified by complementing and enriching job performance but if negatively understood can ruin feelings and be a disaster. Emotions in healthcare organizations are important to be taken care of because in the service exchange process emotions of both the service provider and the receiver are directly involved. Although caring and curing patient by these employees is a professional activity but still, the empathetic and sympathetic behavior shown by these professionals influences their performance and success in hospital industry. Moreover, the behavior shown by these employees in the workplace is often discriminated on the basis of their gender as it influences the performance of health professionals. Based on above backdrop, the objective of the current study is to assess whether there exist difference in emotional intelligence of healthcare employees in hospitals with respect to their gender. A standardized questionnaire was used to conduct the study among 300 employees in hospitals with the help of scale developed by Hyde, Pethe and Dhar (2002). Data was analyzed through SPSS and results indicated that the level of emotional intelligence among females is higher than male employees.

One of the key objectives of European Union policy is to equalize the opportunities for women and men in the most important areas of social life. An urgent field for such actions is the solicitude of equal representation of women and men in the media (as follows from numerous studies, the mass media can strengthen or weaken gender stereotypes). Primarily the public media should obey the so-called gender mainstreaming principle – because of the public mission. Therefore the purpose of the presented study was an attempt to determine whether, in the selected TVP journalistic programs with politicians’ participation, women were sufficiently represented. Given that, according to the Quota Act, the electoral lists for the Sejm cannot be less than 35% women candidates, it was expected that there would be at least the same proportion of women and men in the analyzed material. The quantitative content analysis method was used to solve the research problem. The results showed that the representation of women in the analyzed programs was lower than originally assumed. There are therefore grounds for continuing research on the issue of women’s access to the media, especially on determinants, manifestations and socio-cultural consequences of possible gender inequalities in this area.

There is a great deal of literature regarding the differences between motherhood and fatherhood. The literature suggests that parenthood is deeply gendered and takes on different meanings for men and for women. This paper examines parenthood from an angle not typically addressed in feminist discussion. Missing from recent scholarship is any in-depth examination of the role that women may play in limiting the involvement of their male partners. What part do women play in the maintenance of traditional parenting roles? This paper, based on a series of interviews with parents of young children as well as field research in child centered locations, concentrates on the reasons behind the emergence of gendered parenting approaches. The qualitative nature of this study makes it possible to note the complexity of this issue and examine the role of both mother and father in gatekeeping. Overall, I argue that many mothers are involved in maternal gatekeeping through taking control over both major and minor parenting decisions, through controlling access to parenting information and through implementing control mechanisms during their absence. I discuss the means by which some mothers attempt to limit their partners’ involvement and the ambivalence that this creates for both parents involved.

Contrary to the widely held notion that in the context of reactionary, ethno-nationalist ideology sińce the 1980s patriarchal gender relations were either revitalized from old traditions or merely iiwented, this presentation suggests a change of perspective. Based on Detlev Claussen’s concept of Alltagsreligion (everyday religion), which as modern ideology does not lay a claim to truth but rather offers a set of flexible and fragmented cer-tainties and prejudices, this paper discusses how ethnic notions of gender allow women and men to deal with individual and collective crises albeit in an ideological - yet specifically modern - manner. The theoretical discussion will be linked to ethnographic observations madę during field work in northern Croatia in 2008 and to biographical-narrative interviews. From the insights gained, the paper will also examine how everyday religious interpretations have become part of contemporary scientific opinion.

Many studies on TV political advertising suggest the gender differences in the reactions to advertising in the affective aspect, both at the level of liking and evaluation of the candidates. The article follows this trend, presenting an empirical study carried out in Poland during the 2015 presidential electoral campaign. The results show gender differences in the evaluation of candidates. We found out that women are more susceptible to changing the perception of candidates' images as a result of the influence of TV electoral ads. Interestingly, watching advertisements resulted in a statistically significant decrease in the evaluation of most candidates. Women's susceptibility to political advertising is also proved by changes in the emotional attitude to the candidates after watching the spots. In addition, the research showed that TV electoral ads cannot change the perception of candidates whose images are consolidated in public discourse.

This research is an experimental quantitative approach that aims to determine the impact of sex and gender differences on senior high school students’ spatial ability through the implementation of dynamic geometry environment (DGE). Ninety-six high-school student participants were categorized based on gender and sex diversities. Data were analyzed using a three-way ANOVA statistical test and Tukey Test. This study indicates that sex and gender differences and the interaction between sex and gender differences significantly affect students’ spatial abilities. The male students outperform the females. The undifferentiated students outperform all students with different genders (feminine, masculine, and androgyny).

The purpose of the present cross-cultural study was to explore the relationships of second and foreign language teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in terms of their gender, age group, and educational level in two countries, Spain and Iran. The study was based on a sample of 318 language teachers and 307 language students in Iran and Spain. Data collection was carried out through two online questionnaires (108 items) for both teachers and students. To make a sound decision, the researchers decided to utilize the Delphi methodology, which was originally established in order to diagnose the beneficiary of technologies. In the data analysis phase, descriptive, t test and one-way ANOVA analyses were performed to find the answers of the research questions. The findings of the study revealed that there is no difference between the attitudes of Iranian and Spanish towards CALL in terms of gender, age and educational matter. Finally, pedagogical implications and recommendations for further research are presented.

Despite being an underreported topic in the news media, gender-based violence (GBV) undermines the health, dignity, security and autonomy of its victims. Research has studied many of the factors that generate or maintain this kind of violence. However, the influence of the media is still uncertain. This paper used Big Data techniques to explore how GBV is depicted and reported in digital news media. By feeding neural networks with news, the topic information associated with each article can be recovered. Our findings show a relationship between GBV news and public awareness, the effect of well-known GBV cases, and the intrinsic thematic relationship of GBV news with justice themes.

Based on available studies on business and management fields of study as upwardly‑mobile university field of study choices as a basis, this study seeks to test this hypothesis of upward mobility. In doing so, it endeavours to identify correlations between field of study choice and educational background and between field of study choice and gender. The base data is taken from a survey of all domestic first‑time students at Austrian universities in the 2011/12 winter semester (N=27,575). This data was subject to a correspondence analy‑ sis, which allowed us to visualise and interpret the relations between the positions of these fields of study in the university space. The results indicate a clearly structured (stratified) university space. Our supplementary regression analysis shows that the upwardly‑mobile higher education choice hypothesis can be confirmed for the fields of study studied. Our analyses also confirm the feminisation hypothesis for the business and management fields of study studied: women significantly more frequently select fields of study which lead to a career in a pedagogic (business education), social (social economy) or language (international business and management) context. In the group of fields of study explored, business education fields of study had both the highest share of first‑time students and the highest level of feminisation. In contrast, economics fields of study, which were included in the analysis in addition to the business studies and management fields of study, have a sig‑ nificantly higher share of male students and the lowest share of higher education climbers.
Целью этого исследования является проверка гипотезы, касающейся социального продвижения австрийских студентов, начинающих обучение в университетах Австрии на бизнес – специальностях, управлении и экономии. В рамках исследования была определена корреляция между выбором специальности и средним образованием, а также между выбором вуза и полом. Полученные результаты свидетельствуют о существовании чётко структуризованной университетской среды. Гипотеза, касающаяся выбора специальности с точки зрения социального продвижения подтвердилась. Исследования также показали феминизацию анализируемых специальностей из области бизнеса и управления: женщины значительно чаще выберают специальности, открывающие путь к карьерному росту в педагогическом контексте (бизнесовое обучение), общественном (социальная экономика) и языковом(международный бизнес и управление). На специальности экономия был замечен значительно высший процент студентов мужского пола и самыйнизкий процент студентов, признающих высшее образование как путь к социальному продвижению.
Celem prezentowanego badania jest sprawdzenie hipotezy dotyczącej awansu społecznego studentów narodowości austriackiej, rozpoczynających naukę na uniwersytetach w Austrii na kierunkach biznesowych, zarządzania oraz ekonomii. W ramach badania określono korelacje pomiędzy wyborem kierunku studiów a wykształceniem średnim oraz wyborem kierunku studiów a płcią. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują na istnienie wyraźnie ustrukturyzowanej przestrzeni uniwersyteckiej. Hipoteza o wyborze kierunku studiów pod kątem awansu społecznego potwierdza się. Badania wykazały również feminizację analizowanych kierunków z obszaru biznesu i zarządzania: kobiety istotnie częściej wybierają kierunki otwierające drogę do kariery w kontekście pedagogicznym (edukacja biznesowa), społecznym (ekonomia społeczna) i językowym (międzynarodowy biznes i zarządzanie). Na kierunku ekonomia stwierdzono istotnie wyższy odsetek studentów płci męskiej oraz najniższy odsetek osób traktujących wyższe wykształcenie jako drogę do awansu społecznego.

Motywacja jest czynnikiem wpływającym na aktywność człowieka od jego najmłodszych lat poprzez całą dorosłość. Uwidacznia się to w trzech najważniejszych obszarach, tj.: zabawy, edukacji i pracy. Sfery te łączą się ze sobą w różnych proporcjach i zależą one od wielu czynników związanych ze środowiskiem życia i zainteresowaniami jednostki. Do tych najważniejszych należą: opieka, wychowanie, edukacja, otoczenie rodziny, atmosfera rodzinna, uwarunkowania społeczne, ekonomiczne, zdrowie i inne. Czynniki te kształtują u dziecka postrzeganie świata, a także wpływają na jednostkę w zakresie podejmowania ważnych decyzji, do których należy m.in. wybór kierunku studiów. Środowisko ludzi, obiektów, miejsce życia implikują motywy zachowania się człowieka, które przekładają się na jego aspiracje życiowe.
Motivation is a factor influencing human activity from an early age through entire adulthood. It manifests itself in the three most important areas: play, education and work. These areas combine with each other in different proportions and they depend on many factors related to the living environment and the interests of the individual. The most important ones include care, upbringing, education, family environment, family atmosphere, social and economic conditions, health, and others. These factors shape the child's perception of the world, and also affect the individual in making important decisions, which include, among others, the choice of the field of study. The environment of people, objects, and place of living imply motives in creating human behaviour, which translates into his life aspirations.

The early years are the most important years of a child's life for learning and development. Furthermore, this is also the crucial period when children learn the gendered norms and expectations of their community and society. This research aims to determine how children in Croatian kindergartens experience gender differences and stereotypes. The research was based on the qualitative research paradigm. It conducted a case study of 20 preschool children (5–6 years old) in one Croatian kindergarten. With the help of a semi-structured interview, the children’s views of gender differences were analysed. Participants also confirmed their own opinions through artistic expressions which are non-verbal self-evaluations. Findings suggest that children can express their gender very clearly. It can also be noticed that children will often choose games that are stereotypically characteristic of a certain gender. Children observe their parents and adopt their gender-specific behaviours. Preschool teachers, in partnership with parents, should work to reduce gender differences to maximize children's well-being and build a brighter future for the whole generation.

Backchannel responses (BChs) have been an important research topic in conversation analysis since Yngve (1970) drew a distinction between speech produced by the person holding the turn and talking in the ‘main’ channel, while the listener occupying the ‘back’ channel of the communication. However, much less is known about the acoustic-phonetic characteristics of BChs. The aim of the present study is twofold: 1. it seeks to provide a general analysis of BChs as a formal group in 10 Hungarian conversations, using a formal, phonetic approach. 2. Additionally, another sub-study was conducted concerning the contextual variability of BChs investigating their change, according to the age of the conversation partner in three-party conversations. The age of the subject did not significantly affect the frequency and duration of the fieldworker1’s BCh or the other acoustic parameters, however it did make some difference in pause patterns. In contrast, gender-related changes were detected in the fieldworker1’s utterance: having produced more BChs when talking to older women. This may be explained by the possible intimacy in female conversations as well as by the influence of politeness. The results might offer new insights of the conversation’s structure with regard to their age and gender.

Research on mixed couples goes back to the early 20th century. Quantitative studies mainly use the term intermarriage and concentrate on integration or group barriers; other approaches speak of transnational marriage: mixed couples are seen as a consequence of migration. In this article, we will define conjugal mixedness as involving all sorts of interethnic or interreligious couples, even those who are not directly linked to migration. What makes them mixed is not their cultural differences, but the inequality between the majority and the minority partner. Prevalent in-marriage norms (endogamy) and conjugal inequality lead to social disapproval, which varies historically and depends on the societal context. Conjugal mixedness furthermore requires an intersectional approach; questions of ethno-cultural, racial or religious belonging are linked to gender, social class and migration. Illustrated by empirical examples in France, we show how conjugal mixedness is defined from the outside, i.e. through social perceptions or disapproval, and constructed from the inside (the couples’ own experiences of mixedness in daily life and the adjustments they make). We argue that the way spouses deal with mixedness depends on factors other than ethnic belonging, namely gender, class and migration history.

This article seeks to identify the relationships between fatherhood, masculinities, and the welfare state. The paper is based on fifty-two interviews conducted with Polish and Swedish fathers living with their biological children and their partners. A comparison of Polish and Swedish fathers enables us to comprehend how everyday practices and men’s thinking about parenthood and gender roles are connected to hegemonic masculinities models and family policy systems. The study shows how definitions of parental roles adopted in family policy influence men’s engagement in caring activities and the domestic sphere, as well as how they can help in the reconstruction of hegemonic masculinity and traditional gender order within family life.

Making recourse to Virginia Woolf’s “Professions for Women” (1931), I have studied the manner in which F.D. Bridges criticizes the patriarchal representations of Victorian women in her Journal of a Lady’s Travels Round the World (1883). In her text, she not only accounts for her experiences of travel in foreign countries but also inserts a discourse that lies counter to male definitions of women’s roles as “household angels,” confined in the domestic space and deprived of power. With the strength she demonstrates through her experiences of travel, she criticizes the fact that women are considered to be ‘the weaker sex.’ She also cultivates a quest for knowledge so as to carve her place in the ‘public sphere’ of knowledge and power and to criticize the practice of representing women as uneducated and ignorant. Last but not least, she highlights the degraded condition of the foreign women in an attempt to call for a universal enfranchisement of women abroad and in her country. All the three elements allow Bridges to fight against the “phantom” of the “angel in the house,” which, according to Woolf, needed to be “killed” in order for a woman to impose her authorship.

The situation of transsexual persons in Poland is not precisely known; there are only estimates determining the scale of the phenomenon. The lack of information fosters stereotypes and, not infrequently, injurious appraisal; fear of the unknown is also produced, and is gradually turning into widespread prejudice. A social analysis of the phenomenon of transsexuality is hampered by the predominance of the hetero- -normative discourse, including in scholarly spheres. The basic issue addressed by the author is the acceptance of transsexual persons, viewed from the perspective of their own personal experiences. These observations concern both the sphere of personal life as well as functioning in the macro-social space (school, work, etc.). In each of these spheres, a change of gender produces complications with which transsexual persons must grapple as they strive to live in harmony with their psychologically intuited gender

Aim: Higher education has experienced major changes in last few decades in India in terms of its expansion, content and reach. Massification of higher education has increased access to education and people belonging to different social backgrounds are getting enrolled in higher education. A pertinent question that emerges here is: what kind of relationship exists between the background characteristics of people and the levels and types of higher education they attain? This descriptive study provides a comprehensive answer. Method: This empirical work is conducted in Srinagar city of India. It covered 704 respondents belonging to 245 households. Survey method was used for collecting primary data and structured interviews were conducted by making use of interview-schedule. Results: This study finds that higher education in Srinagar is readily available for many but such availability is embedded within constraints related to gender, age, occupation and education of parents and caste related identities. People coming from different social backgrounds acquire different types and levels of higher education. It creates hierarchy among and within academic courses of higher education and inequalities among the groups. Conclusion: Higher education reflects as well as promotes social inequalities in contemporary context and thus the egalitarian goals of higher education are getting compromised. There is need to bring change in the courses and contents of higher education so that it can address to dynamic needs of people coming from different backgrounds. Education needs to become a vehicle for liberation and social transformation and should not remain a mere agency of social reproduction. By means of a qualitative approach, this study aimed to understand the main narrative patterns of working identity construction and influences of gender relations in these processes through content analysis of the narratives generated by a purposive sample of 40 Brazilian urban workers. Five narratives patterns were found (organizational, professional/occupational, networking, hybrid, and de-identification). In the analysis of gender relations, men and women likewise constructed organizational and professional/occupational identities; men, however, were more likely to construct hybrid identities while women were more likely to construct flexible identities. In conclusion, traditional models of identity construction coexist with flexible and hybrid models, but with an important gender difference consisting in women’s major tendency to change. The practical implications and limitations of these results for career counseling are discussed.
Celem niniejszej pracy, w której wykorzystano wyniki badań uzyskane przy użyciu podejścia jakościowego, było wyjaśnienie narracyjnych wzorów konstrukcji pracowniczej tożsamości oraz oddziaływania na nie relacji genderowych. Analizie poddano treść narracji 40 brazylijskich pracowników miejskich. Zidentyfikowano pięć wzorów narracyjnych (organizacyjny, zawodowy/branżowy, sieciowy, hybrydowy oraz deidentyfikujący). W analizie relacji genderowych zauważono, że kobiety i mężczyźni podobnie konstruowali tożsamość organizacyjną oraz zawodowo/branżową; z tym, że mężczyźni częściej skłaniali się do konstrukcji tożsamości hybrydowej, a kobiety do konstrukcji tożsamości plastycznej. Modele tradycyjne konstrukcji tożsamości współistnieją z modelami hybrydowymi i plastycznymi, ale ważną różnicą na poziomie gender jest to, że większość kobiet ma tendencję do ich zmiany. Omówione zostały praktyczne konsekwencje oraz zastosowania tych wyników dla doradztwa kariery.

Recent studies reveal a growing number of individuals with the traits of broad autism phenotype who display communication problems and difficulties in establishing interpersonal relations. Studies suggest that BAP traits are more frequent in students of the sciences than in humanities students. Therefore, the present study aimed to establish the mediating role of a field of study in the relationship between BAP and the sense of coherence. The study included 168 students (90 females and 78 males) of science and humanities. We administered the AQ questionnaires (Autism -Spectrum Quotient, Baron-Cohen et al.,, 2001) for adults, the Sense of Coherence Questionnaire (SOC - 29, Antonovsky, 1987, 1993). The study confirmed that BAP traits are more expressed in students of science than in students of arts as well as in men than women. Also, relationships between the intensity of BAP traits and comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness were noted, but not between the total sense of coherence. Therefore, we concentrated on evaluating a mediating effect of the field of study and these three dimensions. The positive relationships between BAP meaningfulness and manageability suggest that the appropriate choice of the field of study plays a significant role in finding meaning in life and deve loping an ability to cope with emerging difficulties. Since the field of study is closely linked to the type of work, it might be assumed that the same role is played by a job that makes sense. It explains the frustration of brain-damaged patients at being unable to work. Clinical data show that giving such patients an oppor tunity to be active in any field restores their sense of meaning in life.

Objectives To investigate if effort–reward imbalance (ERI) and overcommitment (OC) are associated with all-cause and mental disorder long-term sick leave (LS), and to identify differences in associations between genders, private versus public sector employees and socioeconomic status groups. Material and Methods The study uses a cross-sectional case-control design with a sample of 3477 persons on long-term sick leave of more than 59 days and a control group of 2078 in employment. Data on sick leave originate from social insurance registers, while data on health, working and living conditions were gathered through a survey. The binary logistic regression was used to test the multivariate associations. Results Effort–reward imbalance was associated with all-cause LS among the women (odds ratio (OR) = 1.58, 95% CI: 1.2–2.08), but not among the men. Associations for mental disorder LS were evident for both ERI and OC among both genders (ERI/OC: women OR = 2.76/2.82; men OR = 2.18/2.92). For the men these associations were driven by high effort, while for the women it was low job esteem in public sector and low job security in private sector. Among the highly educated women, ERI was strongly related to mental disorder LS (OR = 6.94, 95% CI: 3.2–15.04), while the highly educated men seemed to be strongly affected by OC for the same outcome (OR = 5.79, 95% CI: 1.48–22.57). Conclusions The study confirmed the independent roles of ERI and OC for LS, with stronger associations among the women and for mental disorders. The ERI model is a promising tool that can contribute to understanding the prevailing gender gap in sick leave and increasing sick leave due to mental disorders. The paper presents the monographic study of Beata Rycielska, devoted to the nouns of common gender in Russian in comparison to the Polish language. The author of the book analyses selected lexical and grammatical phenomena from the perspective of cognitive grammar, in particular – the ideas of one of the founders of the cognitive linguistics movement and the creator of cognitive grammar – Ronald W. Langacker. In her work Beata Rycielska explains many linguistic aspects such as similarities and differences in the categorization of people assessment. However, the main value of the book is the logical discussion on selected phenomena in compared languages.
Niniejszy artykuł omawia nowatorską monografię Beaty Rycielskiej poświęconą rzeczownikom wspólnorodzajowym w języku rosyjskim w porównaniu z polskim. W analizie konfrontatywnej wybranych zjawisk z zakresu leksyki i gramatyki badaczka opiera się na podstawowych założeniach gramatyki kognitywnej, w szczególności zaś na teoretycznej wykładni czołowego przedstawiciela tego nurtu w lingwistyce – Ronalda W. Langackera. Autorka docieka istoty wielu kwestii, m.in. wyjaśnia podobieństwa i różnice w kategoryzowaniu oceny osoby. Nadrzędny walor tej pracy to sprawnie przeprowadzony wywód logiczny o wybranych zjawiskach w porównywanych językach.

The aim of the paper is to discuss Polish sex positivity movement and its relationship to queer theory. This is done on the basis of a case study, i.e. the analysis of the book Warsztaty intymnosci [The Workshops of Intimacy] by Agnieszka Szezynska. The author of the article presents selected aspects of this publication, focusing on the typical features of sex positivity approach (in so doing, she refers to other Polish and English sources which represent or study this topic). Apart from that, the scholar shows conceptual overlaps between Szezynska’s perspective and queer theory. In conclusion, the author discusses the functioning and possible outcomes of this alliance in the Polish context.

Due to the rarity of female pilots, aviation communication is typically conducted in a single-gender environment. The role of gender in interactions during inflight emergencies has not yet been adequately explored. This single case analysis uses a qualitative approach based on conversation analytic transcripts to investigate how gender may be relevant either explicitly or implicitly in radio transmissions between flight crew and Air Traffic Control (ATC) personnel, as well as internal ATC phone interactions as participants work to handle an inflight emergency. This incident involved a female pilot and a male copilot, thus providing a naturally occurring rare event to explore the potential relevance of gender. The analysis shows that explicit references to gender are limited to occasional asymmetrical use of gendered address terms and gendered pronouns. Participants also used interactional formulations that—while not explicitly gendered—have been associated in previous research with gender differences in interaction, for example, the use of indirect forms of requests or complaints, actions that imply inferences about the emotional state of participants, or possible confusion over the identity of the pilot given the transitions between male and female sounding voices speaking on behalf of the plane. The findings are discussed in terms of implications for how gender differences can impact aviation communication during emergency incidents.

Aim. The aim of the current study is to address a gap in literature as well as explore the factors influencing the perceptions that Kosovar students hold over their research skills. To that end, the study assessed students’ perceptions on their research abilities as well as the variables which influence these perceptions, namely inclusion, exclusion, ethnicity, gender and parental education. Methods. The study employed the quantitative research approach and 303 Kosovar university students participated in the study by answering an instrument composed of three different scales measuring the variables in the study, namely the research skills scale, inclusion scale and exclusion scale. In addition the participants answered ten demographic questions. Participation in the study was on a volunteer basis and the results were analyzed with the SPSS package. Results. Participants in this study reported the highest levels of research skills when they reported being included in academic settings. Ethnicity was a powerful influencing variable. Participants who belonged to minority groups were the ones to report the lowest levels of abilities. Contrary to existing literature, gender did not influence perceptions on abilities. Additionally, unlike in a vast number of research studies, parental education did not influence perceptions that Kosovar students held over their research skills. Conclusions. This study is the first one to research skill acquisition among student populations in Kosovo; a region that is almost absent in international literature. This research presents an overview of variables predicting perceptions held by Kosovar students on their research skills with ethnicity and inclusion being detrimental to perceptions of research skills.

Objectives: Occupational accidents constitute a substantial health and economic burden for societies around the world and a variety of factors determine the frequency of accidents at work. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the economic situation and the rate of occupational accidents in Poland. Material and Methods: The analysis comprised data for 66 Polish sub-regions taken from the Central Statistical Office’s Local Data Bank. The regression analysis with panel data for period 2002–2014 was applied to identify the relationships involved. Four measures of accidents were used: the rates of total occupational accidents, accidents among men and women separately as well as days of incapacity to work due to accidents at work per employee. Four alternative measures assessed the economic situation: gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, average remuneration, the unemployment rate and number of dwelling permits. The confounding variables included were: employment in hazardous conditions and the size of enterprises. Results: The results of the regression estimates show that the number of occupational accidents in Poland exhibits procyclical behavior, which means that more accidents are observed during the times of economic expansion. Stronger relationships were observed in the equations explaining men’s accident rates as well as total rates. A weaker and not always statistically significant impact of economic situation was identified for women’s accident rates and days of incapacity to work. Conclusions: The results have important implications for occupational health and safety actions. In the periods of higher work intensity employers should focus on appropriate training and supervision of inexperienced workers as well as on ensuring enough time for already experienced employees to recuperate. In terms of public health actions, policy makers should focus on scrutinizing working conditions, educating employers and counteracting possible discrimination of injured employees. The article presents the results of a study on fathers in Poland. The main examined areas were: the role of the father, the division of responsibilities related to child care, time spent with the child, the use of paternity leave, ways to prepare for fatherhood, experienced difficulties and used methods of education. The article presents the idea of change from the traditional model of fatherhood in the direction of convergence father’s and mother’s roles.

The author analyses the autobiographical film Orchids. My Intersex Adventure by an Australian filmmaker who was born as an intersex person. The text begins with the explanation of the symbolism of the orchid, which appears in the title and in many frames of Phoebe Hart’s movie. The film and critical texts are presented as examples of the dynamically developing concept of posthuman sexuality. The process of making this documentary film is considered in terms of an autotherapeutic journey.

A cross-sectional study was carried out to examine the frequency and types of serious injuries in physical educators throughout their professional career, in relation to their gender, age and teaching level, certain factors causing the injuries and the consequences of those injuries on their working ability. The subjects (n = 468) answered a self-administered questionnaire. In men, one group's higher frequency of injuries was 1.8 (95% CI [1.26, 2.57]) times higher than in women. Every year in age increased the odds for moving into a group with a higher frequency of injuries by 7.6% (95% CI [1.06, 1.10]). The most common injuries for both genders were lower limb injuries. The most common cause of injury was the teacher's own mistake. Over 60% of teachers had to modify their teaching after an injury. It is necessary to further explore preventive strategies to reduce injuries in these workers.
