Teskt pisany, we wspomnianej grze, wpływa znacząco na odbiór świata przedstawionego i w znacznym stopniu determinuje odbiór także innych elementów gry, oddziałując na całe doświadczenie rozgrywki. Dowodzi tego zaprezentowana w artykule analiza fontów/krojów pisma, organizacji przestrzennej tekstów pisanych oraz znaczenia treści tych tekstów.
This article is about functions of written text in video game space. It aims to show the true potential of the written text in creating a vision of game in player’s mind and in keeping him immersed. I analyzed text material from the Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East, a turn-based strategy video game which action takes place in the fictional, colorful, fantasy world of Ashan. The written texts in mentioned video game determines the player’s perception of the other elements in the game and affects his playing experience. The following analysis of fonts, space organization of written texts and their meaning proves that point.

Jakub Parkosz, also known as Parkoszowic, is the author of the first proposal of Polish spelling. In order to account for all the phonemes of Polish, some new letters were proposed. As his proposal was not widely accepted, the letters have not become available with the standard fonts, which makes it difficult to quote and discuss the proposal. Fortunately, the letters have recently been added to the Junicode font by its creator, Peter Baker.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the motivation for a new general algebraic semantics for deductive systems, to introduce it, and to present an outline of its main features. Some tools from the theory of abstract logics are also introduced, and two classifications of deductive systems are analysed: one is based on the behaviour of the Leibniz congruence (the maximum congruence of a logical matrix) and the other on the behaviour of the Frege operator (which associates to every theory the interderivability relation modulo the theory). For protoalgebraic deductive systems the class of algebras associated in general turns out to be the class of algebra reducts of reduced matrices, which is the algebraic counterpart usually considered for this large class of deductive systems; but in the general case the new class of algebras shows a better behaviour.

This paper studies some properties of the so-called semilattice-based logics (which are defined in a standard way using only the order relation from a variety of algebras that have a semilattice reduct with maximum) under the assumption that its companion assertional logic (defined from the same variety of algebras using the top element as representing truth) is algebraizable. This describes a very common situation, and the conclusion of the paper is that these semilattice-based logics exhibit some of the good behaviour of protoalgebraic logics, without being necessarily so. The main result is that all these logics have enough Leibniz filters, a fact previously known in the literature to occur only for protoalgebraic logics. Another significant result is that the two companion logics coincide if and only if one of them enjoys the characteristic property of the other, that is, if and only if the semilattice-based logic is algebraizable, and if and only if its assertional companion is selfextensional. When these conditions are met, then the (unique) logic is finitely, regularly and strongly algebraizable and fully Fregean; this places it at some of the highest ranks in both the Leibniz hierarchy and the Frege hierarchy.

The article describes a calligraphic font, meant for math-oriented applications, designed while working on a collection of math fonts in the OpenType format. The construction of the glyphs of the font is based on graphemes are the glyphs manually prepared with an interactive font editor. The graphemes are then transformed into required outlines with at programmable engine. MetaTypel, employing operations known as expand stroke and remove overlap. The paper discusses possible applications of such an approach.

The TEX Gyre free collection of fonts [15] (released under the GUST Font License [4]) was created from 2006 to 2009 as a free replacement for the renowned standard set of the 35 Type1 fonts by Adobe Systems Inc. The article concerns the first phase of a recent GUST e-foundry project of enhancing the text fonts of the TEX Gyre collection; it describes the project’s essential, most difficult and thus, presumably, most interesting aspects. This “face-lifting” of the text TEX Gyre fonts is mainly rooted in the math part of those fonts. Many symbols contained therein do not need the mathematical extension of the font structure, i.e., the MATH table in OTF files [10], but still prove useful for typesetting technical texts; these, e.g., are mathematical symbols (operators, relational symbols), arrows, geometrical symbols, etc. Such symbols can be used in usual text fonts (without the MATH table).The main goal was to include selected math-oriented symbols into the TEX Gyre text fonts (circa 1000 characters were selected to be included). Apart from that, the structure of the fonts was enhanced by adding the so called anchor mechanism. So far, two fonts, TEX Gyre Pagella (the replacement for Palatino) and TEX Gyre Adventor (the replacement for Avant Garde), are released [6]. Additionally, for the purpose the project, our MetaType 1 engine for generating fonts was improved – it is now completely based on Metapost and Python with FontForge libraries.

Sex and sexuality are two obsessions of the 19th century. As the literature of this time, influenced by the Victorian hypocritical morality, rejects these subjects, considered as “immoral”, the relation of any form of sexual act is consequently absent in the works of 19th century writers, even of those who consider themselves as realists. However, the work of a writer like Emile Zola cannot overlook this problem, so important for naturalism. For Zola, sex is a vital activity and should be shown in works of art. Therefore, to give his writings the appearance of decency, Zola uses metaphors that “sexualise” some elements of the world of his novels, like plants, animals, things, places and everyday occupations. This allows him to show, in an imaginary way, the aspects of life that cannot be displayed openly and directly. Thank to his poetic talent these images constitute a valuable part of his Rougon-Macquart series.

Opis:
The first dissenters arrived in Pogorzela during the time of the Reformation, but the first prayer house of the evangelical settlers was set up much later. For this purpose they rebuilt a wooden barn from 1778. In this building services were presided over by the parson from the nearby Kobylin, and once a week the teacher from Gumienice preached sermons. In 1853 the first local parson was appointed and so it was possible to establish a separate parish. The construction of the present church lasted from 1860 until October 1861, and on 24 July 1862 it was solemnly consecrated. The church in Pogorzela was built by Friedrich Wilhelm Butzke according to a typical government design by F.A. Stüler. In 1904 the parsonage was built.

In der Pfarrkirche St. Maria in Banská Bystrica in der Slowakei befindet sich ein Bronzetaufbecken in Kelchform, das – laut Inschrift auf dem nodus – 1475 von Jodocus angefertigt wurde. An der Schale sind Apostelfiguren und in dreifacher Wiederholung das Wappenschild des Veit Müllenstein angebracht. Die Schale umlaufen Inschriften, die an das Sakrametn der Taufe anknüpfen. Das Taufbecken gehört zu den Meisterwerken der Gießereikunst. Auffallend ist die Ähnlichkeit des Taufbeckens mit zeitgleicher Goldschmiedekunst. Dagegen unterscheidet es sich deutlich von den Bronzetaufbecken, die in der nahe gelegenen, für ihre Gießereikunst berühmten Zips, hergestellt wurden. Dies mag der Grund sein, weshalb die Forschung, die weder eine Analogie zwischen der Zipser Gießereikunst und dem Taufbecken in Banská Bystrica fand noch einen Zusammenhang zwischen dem Namen Jodok und jener Werkstatt herstellen konnte und somit auf der falschen Spur war, über diesen Forschungsgegenstand mit Stillschweigen hinweggingen oder ihn nur gelegentlich erwähnte. Jodok (Jodocus, Jost) Tauchen wirkte in der 2. Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts in Breslau. Er war Bildhauer, Baumeister und Gießer. Von diesem zniversalen Künstler ist bis heute in Breslau nur ein einziges signiertes Werk erhalten: Das Tabernakel der Elisabethenkirche. Von Jodok als Architekt erfahren wir aus Quellen, die den Bau der Nordkapellen der Marienkirche auf dem Sande in den Jahren 1466-1469 betraffen. Mit Jodok verbindet man verschiedene Bildwerke in der Kakpelle und im Nordschiff des Refektoriums im Rathaus, ebenso das Taufbecken in der Marienkirche auf dem Sande. Jodoks handwerkliches Können als Gießer mußte bereits in den sechziger Jahren des 15. Jahrhunderts bekannt gewesen sein, da der Erzbischof von Gnesen, Johannes Vi,. bei ihm 1462 eine Grabtafel bestellte. Das Bronzetaufbecken von der Elisabethenkirche in Breslau, das heute im Warschauer Nationalmuseum aufbewahrt wird, ist ebenfalls Jodoks Werk. Vermutlich wurde es gegen das Lebensende des Meisters angefertigt. Es kann sein, daß Jodok mit diesem Werk die breite palette seiner künstlerischen Fähigkeiten zeigen wollte. Jedenfalls macht es einen überladenen Eindruck. 1495 verschwindet der Name Jodok spurlos aus den Stadtbüchern von Breslau. Das Taufbecken in Banská Bystrica ist das einzige Werk des Künstlers, welches das Entstehungsjahr wie den namen des Meisters trägt. Es stellt sich die Frage, wie es nach Banská Bystrica gelangte. Möglich ist, daß die Verbindungen zu Johannes Turzon bestanden, der in Schlesien und in Ungarn, bekannt war – er hat Kupferbergwerke in Banská Bystrica und Kremnica gegründet –, und auf die Bestellung des Taufbeckens aus dem entlegenen Ort einen Einfluß hatten. Die Forschung zu Jodok scheint jedenfalls noch nicht abgeschlossen zu sein.

Ze względu na brak źródeł spisanych, zaświadczających przebieg liturgii chrztu świętego i pozostałych sakramentów inicjacji chrześcijańskiej pierwszego władcy Polski Mieszka I, można wysnuć hipotezę, że szafarz sakramentów korzystał z obrzędu zawartego w Pontyfikale rzymsko-germańskim, zredagowanym w Moguncji w połowie X w. Niewątpliwie z punktu widzenia historyczno-liturgicznego pontyfikał ten miał ogromny wpływ na kształtowanie się w kolejnych wiekach ksiąg liturgicznych, w tym również ksiąg powstających w Polsce. Hipoteza postawiona w artykule przybliża zatem, odległy w czasie, historyczny moment, który wydobył polskich „praojców” z pogańskiego świata, wszczepiając ich w Mistyczne Ciało Chrystusa i w wielowiekową tradycję Kościoła, a tym samym otworzył ich na kulturę ówczesnej Europy, która żyła wartościami chrześcijańskimi.
Due to the lack of written sources testifying the liturgy of baptism and of the other sacraments of Christian initiation of the first sovereign of Poland, Mieszko I, one can formulate a hypothesis, that the celebrant used the rites from the Romano-German Pontifical, edited in Mainz in the early 10th century. Unquestionable, from the historical-liturgical point of view this Pontifical had a large impact for the edition of the liturgical books in the following centuries, including the liturgical books in Poland. The hypothesis formulated in this study brings closer a distant historical moment, which took out the polish forefathers from the pagan world instilling them to the Mystical Body of Christ and to the centuries-old tradition of the Church, and opening them – at the same time – to the European, i.e. Christian culture.
