Opis:
Mokara is one of the widely cultivated orchid in the Pacific region, especially in the tropics. In this study we evaluated the longevity of inflorescences and flowers 10 Mokara cultivars: ‘Bloonlong’, ‘Calipso’, Chak Kuan’, ‘Chorcharood’, ‘Jenistar’, ‘Kitti’, ‘Pranee’, ‘Robin’, ‘Tammy’ and ‘Tangerine’. Cultivar ‘Kitti’ inflorescences were characterized by excellent vase life for more than three weeks. The highest longevity had the flowers of ‘Bloonlong’, ’Kitti’ and ‘Robin’. Spraying flowers of Mokara orchids with the OASIS® Clear Life preparation increased their quality depending on the cultivar.

The Orchidacea are one of the largest families of flowering ornamental plants in the Pacific region, especially in the tropics. Among this group plants, attention should be paid to the intergeneric hybrid Mokara. The following 10 cultivars of the Mokara hybrid were used in the experiment: ‘Bloonlong’, ‘Calipso’, Chak Kuan’, ‘Chorcharood’, ‘Jenistar’, ‘Kitti’, ‘Pranee’, ‘Robin’, ‘Tammy’ and ‘Tangerine’. The tested Mokara cultivars are distinguished by a wide palette of warm colors, including many shades of orange and red. These are very rare colors among other popular genera of orchids.

This paper aims to reframe disability through John Dewey’s transactional theory of culture to indicate how disability is not located in the biological organization of the individual nor in the organization of culture, but in the transactions between the two. This paper will apply Dewey’s theory of culture to disability studies and philosophy of disability and then to ADHD to make clear the benefits of a transactional model of disability.

  The article treats of the issues of privacy and informality in Cyprian Norwid’s Czarne kwiaty [Black Flowers]. The poet wrote about events from the lives of individuals whose status was public. He wrote, among others, about informal meetings, universalising their meaning. He published the piece in a monthly insert to Czas daily newspaper. A question arises whether Norwid had the right to unveil the privacy of these people. Did he ask them to let him exploit very private moments from their lives? A scene from the drama, where the narrator (the author of Czarne kwiaty) cuts a souvenir drawing from Juliusz Słowacki – he sends one half to Poland and keeps the other to himself – reveals the quintessence of the piece. By cutting the drawing from Egypt Norwid made it into two pieces; at the same time he destroyed a souvenir from Słowacki and, in a certain sense, those things that were the most private in relationships with particular people.

Artykuł poświęcony tej części lirycznej twórczości Bronisławy Ostrowskiej, w której ujawnia się paralelność opisu gwiazd i kwiatów, wskazująca na powinowactwo tych bytów. W przyglądaniu się zależności między partiami ziemskimi a domeną niebiańską zastosowano założenia metodologiczne sakrologii (badania sacrum) i katoptrologii (problem odbić lustrzanego).
The article is devoted to this part of the lyrical work of Bronislawa Ostrowska’s, in which the parallelity of the description of stars and flowers is revealed, indicating the affinity of these entities. In studying the similarities in the land and celestial domains constructed by the poet, the methodological assumptions of sacrology (research on the sacrum) and catoptrology (the problem of mirror reflections) were used.

The aim of this article is to present the role of medicinal plants depicted in the songs of praise for Māriyamman and the important role they play in the ritual and in the cult of this goddess. This paper illustrates the connection between Māriyamman’s power of healing and the use of particular flowers to satisfy the goddess and cure the illness, usually skin problems, suffered by the worshippers. The medicinal plants and the benefits of their use are discussed in the context of a division into two socio-ritual spheres – kadu and nadu – representing areas overgrown by nature and inhabited by people respectively. They are analysed to present the strong influences of medicinal plants in the ritual performed in the cult of Māriyamman. With their help, the goddess, – despite the progressive process of Sanskritization in her cult, still representing the dangerous powers of nature that need to be appeased to be protective – becomes more accessible and benevolent towards people.

The flowers of Polemonium caeruleum are protandrous. The nectary is in the form of a rim encircling the ovary. Secreted nectar accumulates in a chamber located at the bottom of the floral tube and is protected by dense staminal hairs. The nectary tissue is not vascularized, but is supplied by vascular strands that occur near the base of the nectary and which directly supply the stamens. Nectar is secreted via modified stomata located on the upper part of the rim, particularly on the adaxial surface. The number of stomata and the volume and sugar concentration of nectar are greater during the female stage than during the male stage. In both stages, however, the nectar is sucrose-dominant. This paper shows that in P. caeruleum the nectar sugars are not a direct product of current photosynthesis, since plastids of nectary cells are devoid of chlorophyll. The main source of sugars in secreted nectar is the phloem sap, together with starch that accumulates in the nectary cells during the male stage and is then rapidly hydrolyzed during the female stage.
