Opis:
The paper deals with the study of global financial transformations impact on the financial sector in Poland. Two types of tendencies of the global financial space development that create new conditions for national financial systems are defined, including: trends that lead to qualitative shifts in countries’ financial systems and do not necessarily imply a negative impact on the national financial systems; threatening challenges that shatter financial markets and restrain their sustainable development. The current positions of Poland’s financial sector in the world and regional financial systems are evaluated. The shifts in the national financial sector in terms of global financial transformations are found out. It is stated that while integrating into the global financial space, Poland will increasingly feel the impact of global transformations that will determine further scenarios for the domestic financial sector development. Exogenous factors that can aggravate challenges threatening the stability of Poland’s financial sector in the near future are identified.

Opis:
The aim of the work was to analyze the possibilities of measuring the phenomenon of financialization on a regional basis. The article attempts the move with the measurement of financialization from the level of countries to the level of regions. In the paper, some variables that can measure financialization at the level of voivodeships were used to create an index of regional financialization. The research proposal was verified empirically, using data from 2005–2015 for 16 Polish voivodeships. The results obtained allowed for the ranking of individual regions of the country, in terms of the degree of intensification of financialization. The regional approach is a subject, which is poorly recognized in the literature on the subject. However, according to the authors of the article, individual regions of the country may have a different degree of intensity of financialization, and knowledge on this subject may form the basis for strategic decisions regarding further development of these regions. The authors of the work wanted to pay attention to this issue and initiate further research in this direction. The presented methodology is only an attempt to measure this phenomenon and can be developed in subsequent studies.

Opis:
This paper carries out a comparative analysis of the degree of financial development between transition economies and developed ones based on variables that indicate the direct and indirect degree of financial development. To determine the way the financial systems works and the level of its development, the authors have taken into account four general characteristics of financial institutions and financial markets which were measured for the financial institutions (mainly banks, which are the most important financial institutions in most economies in transition, insurance companies and other financial institutions) as well as for the financial markets, thus leading to a 4x2 matrix of the main characteristics of the financial system. The analysis was developed based on the data found on the Global Financial Development database of the World Bank. Empirical data and authors’ analysis were used to characterize and compare financial systems between countries with economies in transition and developed countries for the years 2008 – 2011. The year 2011 was the last year of available qualitative data for many countries in the Balkan Region such as Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia.

Opis:
The paper aims at finding out what is the impact of bank capital ratios on loansupply in the EU and what factors explain the potential diversity of this impact.Applying the Blundell and Bond (1998) two step GMM estimator, we find that in thefull sample of large banks the role of capital ratio on loan growth in contractionsis relatively weak. However, if we take into account the differences in financial sector structure and development between EU countries, we find that the effectof capital ratio on lending is positive and statistically significant. Therefore, ourresults suggest that capital ratios are an important determinant of lending in thelarge EU banks in those countries where financial sector is more dominated bystock markets of is better developed. Thus, our results provide support for theview that more financially developed economies are prone to greater procyclicalimpact of capital ratios on lending of banks.

Opis:
The purpose of the article/hypothesis: The main objective of the article is to present the directions of pro-environmental activities undertaken by institutions from the financial sector operating in Poland and their significance for green transformation of the economy. In turn, an additional aim of the analysis undertaken is to show whether financial institutions have instruments that are typical for them, but at the same time are aimed directly at the process of greening the economy. Methodology: The study is of a theoretical and analytical character. In addition to a review of available domestic and foreign literature on the subject, selected good environmental practices implemented in financial sector institutions in Poland in 2016–2020 were analysed. Qualitative data analysis (content analysis of good practices) was applied. Results of the research: 94 good environmental practices from 24 financial sector institutions were analysed. Different subject and object orientations of the good practices were observed. It was found that through the implementation of environmental activities, financial institutions can build a positive image in their surroundings. In terms of issues related to green transformation, a special role was assigned to banks, which can offer green banking products. Products of this type are directly aimed at supporting investments whose role is to change the existing way of economy to a more sustainable one.

Opis:
Do obszarów tych należą: deficyt długoterminowego finansowania nieruchomości, mały rynek listów zastawnych i obligacji hipotecznych, niski udział inwestycji gospodarstw domowych w instrumenty rynku kapitałowego, słabo rozwinięty i mało konkurencyjny rynek kapitałowy, ograniczony i mało zdywersyfikowany dostęp przedsiębiorstw do kapitału.
A high efficiency of economic activity of market participants and maximization of the economic development of a country cannot be achieved in a situation of unproper functioning of market mechanisms. In the present article, the author refers to poorly operating market mechanisms in the polish financial sector, which inhibit the development of the real economy or resist the attainment of an appropriate scale of operations. These areas include: a deficit of long-term real estate financing, small market bonds and mortgage bonds, a low share of household investment in capital market instruments an underdeveloped and less competitive capital market, limited and little diversified business access to capital. This paper describes the nature of the above-mentioned areas in which market mechanisms cannot function well. Moreover, it outlines the modalities and directions of improvement of market processes, as well as the role of the economic development plan of the Polish government in improving the functioning of the market.

Opis:
This paper analyses the influence of financial development on income inequality. Throughout this work, one may find the overview of theoretical and empirical literature as well as the empirical model using fixed panel data method. This research paper tries to disentangle the opposing views on the relationship between finance and income distribution, by evaluating the impact of the different dimensions of financial development on the level of income inequality. The important added value of this research is the usage of quintiles of income distribution as a dependent variable that may help to recognise the effect of financial development on the poorest and richest. Another novelty of the paper is the consideration of the effects of financial variables on Gini coefficient in the long and short run. The main results of the analysis using dataset from 2003 to 2014 indicate that financial access decreases income inequality.

This article focuses on the sources of Israeli economic success. There were two main sources of Israeli success. Firstly, a large inflow of funds from abroad, mainly from the Jewish diaspora, enabled consecutive governments to make huge investment outlays. Secondly, effective integration of immigrants into social life provided the economy with highly qualified specialists. Traditionally, an important role in the economy of Israel is played by the financial sector and tourism. The defense industry, electronics industry and gem-cutting (in which Israel is the world undisputed leader) occupy a prominent position in the Israeli economy. An important factor that propels the Israeli economy is innovation.
