Opis:
A novel tripodal thioester type of broom extractant has been synthesized to investigate selectivity for soft metal ions. Broom extractant exhibited high extractability for silver ion compared with monopodal compound. The complexation ratio of the broom extractant and silver ion was found to be 1:1 from the result of extractant concentration dependency. For stripping of loaded silver ion, complete stripping was achieved with both 1 mol dm-3 thiourea and high concentration of acidic solutions. As an application, electrode response of silver ion was observed at concentration range of 10-3 to 10-6 M silver nitrate using broom extractant as an ionophore.

Opis:
The rapid development of the hydrometallurgical industry is the answer to the constantly decreasing resources of rich metal ores and the need for separation of metals from low-grade ores, conglomerates and various types of industrial wastes. The development of more effective leaching methods, as well as obtaining new, selective extractants, which are used for the purification of leach solutions in an extraction-stripping step, are the reason for the great progress that has been made in this industry. The appropriate selection of the extraction conditions (pH, the concentration of an extractant, the presence of a modifier) can highlight the advantages of the extractant and minimize its disadvantages, and thereby it makes the extraction process highly efficient. The use of selective extractants in relation to the selected metal ions, reduces the total cost of the recovery of metals from ores and secondary raw materials. The requirements for extractants, and discussion of extractants main groups (acidic, alkaline, chelating, and solvating) are presented in this paper. The reactions occurring in the two-phase systems in the extraction of metal ions, and the extractants most commonly used in hydrometallurgical processes are shown.

Opis:
In the early 2000-ies, world leaders in the field of computer engineering, such companies as IBM, Intel and Samsung Electronics announced the development of a new technology for the production of boards based on multilayer films HfO₂-Al₂O₃ on a silicon pad using the method of atomic layer deposition. The board has a high dielectric constant value thus making it possible to produce smaller transistors with increased operational speed, to reduce leakage current and electric energy consumption. It has been known that hafnium oxide is used in the production of optical devices, resistors, electronic ceramics, neutron absorption compositions, and catalysts. High purity of material is one of key conditions for its application. As source material, hafnium concentrate was used that was enriched to 10% in the form of K₂(ZrHf)F₆ salt - the product of fractional crystallization of zirconium and hafnium fluorides in the production of zirconium for nuclear applications. Another source material is a HFO₂ commercial-grade hafnium oxide produced at Vilnogorsk Mining and Smelting Works. Key process stages are fusion with alkali at a temperature of 800°C, dissolution in nitric acid and extraction. The impurities content of resultant hafnium re-extract is 10-5% (mass). The prime objective of the process technology is the preservation of hafnium purity in its oxide production, which is attained by the application of materials and equipment items having a high corrosion resistance, such as stainless steel, crucibles made of high-purity silicon, reaction vessels made of zirconium and fluoroplastic. Centrifugal extractors allow the key critical process of hafnium extraction purification to be sufficiently effective, resulting in obtaining the product of a required 99.99% purity. Physical properties of hafnium oxide are presented in sufficient detail in. Hafnium oxide can by produced using various methods to be selected based on the requirements to product quality, process efficiency and cost considerations.

Opis:
The paper presents results of studies on extracting properties of neodecanoic acid (Versatic 10) solutions. Neodecanoic acid was diluted in Exxsol D80 AZ to three concentrations: 7.5, 15, and 30 % (v/v). Tests were conducted using sulphate(VI) solutions of six ions: Zn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Cd(II), Mn(II) and a nitrate(V) solution of Pb(II). All the aqueous solutions were prepared as 0.1 M concentration. For all combinations of the used solutions (organic and aqueous), direct methods of measuring and recording the pH of the biphasic mixture have been applied. The degrees of ions extraction, depending on equilibrium pH were also presented in the paper. Extraction and stripping isotherms of selected ions and organic phase were plotted for 7.5 and 30 % (v/v) of extractant solutions and Zn(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions.

Opis:
Phosphorus (P) is essential for plant growth and yield. Balanced fertilization can produce a yield-sustaining effect, but excessive P applied to agricultural soils poses a risk by losing excess of phosphorus to the aquatic environment. This is undesir- able from both an economic and environmental perspective as it wastes a finite phosphorus rock and represents a serious environ- mental hazard in the form of pollution and eutrophication of the aquatic resources. For this reason, proven methods of estimating the risk of P losses from agricultural land are needed. The aim of this study was to assess the content of soil available phosphorus (SP) and soil phosphorus sorption saturation (Psat) in arable soils and assess if they can be used to predict P in waters from drain- age outlets from adjacent arable land. The determination of phos- phorus content in the soil and determination of Psat was carried out using Mehlich 3 extractant. Psat was calculated as the molar ratio of P to the extractable Fe and Al in one solution. The aver- age phosphorus content determined in the soil by the Mehlich 3 method was 101.8 mg kg-1. Psat was on average 11.8%. The aver- age content of phosphorus in water samples from drain outlets was 0.1 mgP dm -3.

Opis:
Industrial acidic zinc electrolyte has been treated with calcium compounds and/or concentrated ammonia solution and resulting crystalline phases as well as equilibrium mother liquors were analyzed in detail for dependence on preliminary dilution of electrolyte with water. Neutralized zinc electrolyte was an object of investigation in zinc(II) extraction with di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (DEHPA) as an extractant. Dependencies of zinc(II) and contaminants extraction on equilibrium pH, isotherms of zinc(II) extraction and stripping have been studied. During simulated laboratory counter-current trial of zinc extraction a new zinc electrolyte (stripped solution) has been produced. Raffinates left after the process were purified and qualified as mineral magnesium-ammonium fertilizer solutions.

Celem pracy było zbadanie stopnia ekstrakcji związków azotowych z krajanki do soku surowego, w warunkach modelowych, z zastosowaniem wybranych substancji chemicznych. Badania prowadzono w skali laboratoryjnej. Do ekstrakcji 1 kg krajanki stosowano roztwory modelowe zawierające różne ilości odczynników: siarczan glinowy 21 do 86 mg Al, chlorek wapniowy 140 do 880 mg Ca oraz wodorotlenek wapniowy 357 do 1.428 mg Ca. W krajance buraczanej, a następnie w soku surowym oraz w wysłodkach oznaczano azot ex-aminokwasowy metodą Kubadinowa i Wieningera oraz ogólną zawartość azotu metodą mineralizacji Kjeldahla. Obliczono stopień ekstrakcji związków azotowych z krajanki do soku surowego i pozostałość tych związków w wysłodkach. Stwierdzono, że najmniej związków azotowych (ogólna zawartość azotu) przechodziło do soku surowego w przypadku stosowania chlorku wapniowego - stopień ekstrakcji wynosił ok. 55%. W analogicznych doświadczeniach z dodatkiem siarczanu glinowego stopień ekstrakcji związków azotowych wynosił ponad 60% a w przypadku wodorotlenku wapniowego blisko 80%. Nie stwierdzono wpływu zmiany wielkości dawki użytej substancji chemicznej na stopień przechodzenia związków azotowych z krajanki do soku surowego.

Opis:
Addition of organic acids to dilute hydrochloric acid solution can improve the extraction of rare earth elements by single cationic extractants. However, the correlation between the chemical structure of organic acids and the extraction of REEs as well as the variation in equilibrium pH has not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solutions containing an organic acid like formic, lactic, fumaric, or maleic acid. As extractants, single Cyanex 272, a mixture of Cyanex 272 and Alamine 336 (Ala336-Cy272), and an ionic liquid (ALi-Cy272) synthesized by Cyanex 272 and Aliquat 336 were used. The speciation of Tb(III) in dilute HCl solutions containing organic acids was analyzed. In extraction of Tb(III), organic acids showed two roles as complexing and buffering agent, which depended on the chemical structure of the acids. There was some difference in the extraction of Tb(III) between single Cyanex 272 and ionic liquid, ALi-Cy272. During extraction with ALi-Cy272, formic and lactic acid negatively affected the extraction of Tb(III). The fact that the chemical structure of organic acids affected the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solution by the studied extractants can provide important information on the selection of suitable extraction systems.
