Opis:
This article examines social and ethnic group membership among sixth-grade students at a Czech lower secondary school whose student population is predominantly heterogeneous in terms of ethnicity. The main focus is on group membership in the sixth grade, which is considered as the worst class at school and which is attended by several Roma boys and girls. Special attention is paid to the boundary constructions in the groups of children from an anthropological perspective and interactionism. The article is based on qualitative, and ethnographic fieldwork. The central method of the fieldwork was observation. This method was partially supplemented by materials from the school evaluations and interviews with teachers and other respondents during the field research. Research findings derive from fieldwork conducted at the school that is perceived as problematic by local residents. The school is located near a socially excluded locality in the Czech Republic where a large number of the buildings are in deplorable condition, with many apartments unoccupied. Many city residents consider the locality to be a “Roma ghetto”. The article contributes to understanding the grouping and social and interethnic communication among twelve-year-old students. The article sheds light on the benefits of being in a group and how students and groups communicate with each other.

Opis:
The article addresses the multifaceted issues of cultural diversity in contemporary Spain. Multiculturalism is perceived from the perspective of ethnic minorities and immigrant students in, mainly, compulsory schooling. Legal framework for the school system is followed by the description of inequalities in education. The aspect of segregation or even marginalization of immigrant alumni and their significantly lower achievement (after PISA reports), when compared to native peers, is strongly emphasized. A section dedicated to linguistic pluralism in the Autonomous Communities of Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia, gives the way to the country's legal background, as regards cultural diversity. There are also considered the aspects of support through compensatory programmes in the classroom in the light of the policy of normalization.

Opis:
The objective of this article is to analyze income inequality and poverty issue among ethnic groups in Malaysia. The government in spite of the historic, social and economic determinants inherited from British colonists, has managed this problem efficiently. This was achieved thanks to actual focus on the matter, during the long term development programs realization since the early 70s. These programs’ implementation caused an immediate outbreak of violence targeted to the wealthiest Chinese in 1969. Nowadays Malaysia can be an example of the country that is managing successfully with inequality and poverty reduction together with the high economic growth. It has to be highlighted that during the decades of income inequality elimination between Bumiputera and other ethnic groups, the political and social inequalities raised. Presently, they have an effect on Malaysian economy and population and also impact the country destabilization.

Opis:
The outbreak of the civil war in Yugoslavia was the end of a certain stage in Dubravka Ugrešic’s writing. The shock experienced by the novelist and essayist in the first half of the 90s radically changed the nature of her literary work. One of the leading themes was that of Croatian and Serbian nationalism producing inequality, which was presented as a politically useful construct. The article focuses on three collections of essays by Dubravka Ugrešic: The culture of lies (1996), Nobody’s Home (2005) and Fox (2017). The article presents a detailed discussion of the author’s attitude to the wartime and post-war reality, which focused on dividing communities that had coexisted for decades in relative agreement. The pessimistic overtone of these ironic essays leaves no illusions as to the nature of nationalism as a dangerous tool in the hands of those who exercise power or wish to gain it by creating ethnic inequalities.
