In the conditions of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, the issues of gender-based violence, discrimination based on gender and domestic violence are more acute than ever before the Ukrainian society. The war became the catalyst that caused not only an increase in cases of such violence, but also complicated the process of identifying and recording them. Despite the military actions, Ukraine continues to take decisive steps to overcome this problem, following the Euro-Atlantic and NATO course. Ukraine supports the policy of gender equality aimed at overcoming all forms of discrimination based on gender. Ukraine has recognized gender equality as one of the global standards – one of the basic principles of a democratic society, and strives to achieve real, factual equality between women and men. Evidence of this is the active implementation of international and European legislation and the implementation of its provisions in the practical activities of state bodies and institutions of all levels. In order to overcome gender stereotypes, education is actively developing, the institutional capacities of state bodies and institutions, and local self-government bodies are being strengthened. Alongside this, statistical research findings suggest that women still have limited access to decision-making in armed conflict, despite their disproportionate contribution to humanitarian aid, and that women remain under-represented in the security and defense sectors , in particular at the level of decision-making, including in military and civilian positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Police, in international operations to maintain peace and security. In view of the above, the issue of gender equality in the security and defense sector of Ukraine, in particular, in the bodies of the National Police, deserves special attention and remains relevant.

The author of the paper focuses on the discrepancies between the new feminism and the practice of the institutional Church. New feminism is approached here as an inherent part of the contemporary social teaching of the Catholic Church. Its practice is analyzed on the examples of statements uttered by Church officials as concerns the role of women in the Church, and the concrete activities and decisions of the institutional Church. The author seeks the reasons for these discrepancies in tradition, on the one hand, and on the other, in the fear of losing power.
Autorka artykułu koncentruje się na rozbieżnościach między założeniami nowego feminizmu a praktyką Kościoła instytucjonalnego. Nowy feminizm traktowany jest tutaj jako immanentna część współczesnej nauki społecznej Kościoła katolickiego. Natomiast praktyka Kościoła instytucjonalnego została przeanalizowana w oparciu o przykłady wypowiedzi hierarchów na temat udziału kobiet w Kościele oraz konkretne działania i decyzje Kościoła instytucjonalnego. Przyczyn tychże rozbieżności autorka upatruje, z jednej strony, w tradycji, z drugiej – w obawie o utratę władzy.

In the conditions of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, the issues of equal rights of women and men, prevention and counteraction of any manifestations of discrimination, including on the basis of gender, require a comprehensive approach for their effective solution and consolidation of the efforts of all state and public institutions. Ukraine continues to take decisive steps to overcome this problem, following the Euro- Atlantic and NATO course. Ukraine supports the policy of gender equality aimed at overcoming all forms of discrimination based on gender. Ukraine has embraced gender equality as a fundamental global standard, a cornerstone of democratic societies. The nation is actively working towards attaining authentic and factual equality between women and men, underscoring its commitment to fostering a society where equal opportunities and rights are afforded to individuals of all genders. Evidence of this is the active implementation of international and European legislation and the implementation of its provisions in the practical activities of state bodies and institutions of all levels. In order to overcome gender stereotypes, education is actively developing, the institutional capacities of state bodies and institutions, local self-government bodies are being strengthened. Furthermore, statistical research indicates that women continue to face restricted access to resolutions in armed conflicts, despite their significant contributions to humanitarian efforts. Women remain underrepresented in key sectors like security and defense, particularly at decision-making levels. This includes both military and civilian roles within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Police, and international peacekeeping operations, highlighting an ongoing imbalance in gender representation within these critical areas. In view of the above, the issue of gender equality in the security and defense sector of Ukraine, in particular, in the bodies of the National Police, deserves special attention and remains relevant. The responsibility for implementing a cohesive state gender policy within the units of the National Police of Ukraine lies with the Human Rights Office of the General Inspection and Human Rights Department of the National Police of Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the Human Rights Office). Despite the considerable volume of the legal framework outlining a diverse range of competences for the Human Rights Office as a subject of administrative and legal relations, it can be confidently stated that there has been no thorough examination of the regulatory and legal aspects governing the activities of the Human Rights Office in the field of implementing the unified state gender policy. This lack of comprehensive study contributes to the presence of numerous gaps in the legislative foundation of the Human Rights Office’s activities. All this actualizes the topic of the corresponding scientific research, testifies to its scientific and practical usefulness, taking into account the recent significant intensification of domestic law-making processes aimed at defining the legal foundations of gender equality and nondiscrimination, the integration of European and international legislation into domestic legislation.

The paper discusses the problem how is the basic principle binding in democratic societies being realized, what is citizens’ equality and lack of discrimination in view of sex. Despite many declarations contained in the law binding during the communist period there was no real equality between women and men in Poland. The rate of women, despite that they are better educated than men, and despite that their participation in the labour market is very high, was in the communist period and is now very low at executive posts. Their incomes were and are ca by 30% to 40% lower than men’s incomes. The participation of women in the authorities is also very low, and that both in the local authorities, in the Sejm and in the government. Despite the declaration of equality irrespectively of their sex the Polish legal system contains a series of regulations which introduce inequality between men and women. As an example here we may quote the regulations which define e.g. jobs forbidden to women or allowing only women to take doctor’s leave to take care about the sick child. These regulations are illegitimately called women’s "privileges". In fact they confine the freedom of choice accorded to individuals as regards their job. Parents are also limited in their choice of the person to take care about their child, imposing respective duties on women exclusively. The inequalities created in the old system are accompanied now by the new ones, connected with the new economic system. Women are burdened with the higher costs of transformation of the economic system, to a greater extent they are concerned with unemployment, their chances on the labour market are limited, and women take less part in the formation of the new economic sphere. This situation calls for new strategies which would change this state of affairs. It must be many-sided actions; one of their important elements should be the introduction of the laws of equal chances of men and women.

The paper presents the solutions applying to retirement in Poland that combine two systems: the capitalization system and repartition. Trying to answer the question of whether different retirement ages for men and women is discriminatory, the author refers to the adjudi- cation of the Supreme Court and public opinion. The paper also indicates that the practice of giving notice of employment termination to women with permanent employment contracts only because they have acquired the right to retirement benefit violates the Constitution of Poland.

Institutions and organizations that constitute Polish feminist movement acting in Poland after 1989 can be classified in many ways. One of them is isolating government and non-government subjects based on the criteria of founding body and the sources of financing the activities. Only public institutions formed at the initiative of government departments and supervised by them are the subject of the analysis undertaken for preparation of hereby paper. The main focus of the paper is the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Treatment appointed by the Prime Minister. The title, competence and methods of legal recognition of the Office has changed multiple times after the political transformation.
Instytucje i organizacje, które składają się na polski ruch feministyczny funkcjonujący w Polsce po 1989 r., można sklasyfikować na wiele sposobów. Jednym z nich jest wyodrębnienie podmiotów o charakterze rządowym oraz pozarządowym, na podstawie kryterium jednostki założycielskiej oraz źródła finansowania ich działalności3. Przedmiotem analizy podjętej na potrzeby przygotowania niniejszego tekstu stały się wyłącznie instytucje publiczne, powstałe z inicjatywy organów administracji rządowej i im podlegające. Skoncentrowano się na powoływanym przez Prezesa Rady Ministrów urzędzie pełnomocnika rządu do spraw związanych z równym traktowaniem4, którego zarówno nazwa, jak i kompetencje oraz sposób usankcjonowania prawego, zmieniały się po transformacji ustrojowej wielokrotnie.

The paper deals with the ever-current topic of stereotypisation in mass media. The issues of the usage and the effectiveness of stereotypes are being broadly discussed in the domain of marketing communication. In the study, the author focuses on identifying stereotypes (gender or other stereotypes) in so-called opinion-forming printed daily newspapers in Slovakia, while trying to note the type and direction of the trends to portray people stereotypically in picture section of the dailies between 2007 and 2013. The author has used a quantified content method [Scherer, 2004] with the results processed statistically by non-parametric procedures. 1685 people pictures and images have been analysed in total. Multiple stereotypes have been identified - including gender related and also stereotypes in the presentation of the elders and children.
