Many innovative environmental technologies never reach the market because they are new and cannot demonstrate a successful track record of previous applications. This fact is a serious obstacle on their way to the market. Lack of credible data on the performance of a technology causes mistrust of investors in innovations, especially from public sector, who seek effective solutions however without compromising the technical and financial risks associated with their implementation. Environmental technology verification (ETV) offers a credible, robust and transparent process that results in a third party confirmation of the claims made by the providers about the performance of the novel environmental technologies. Verifications of performance are supported by high quality, independent test data. In that way ETV as a tool helps establish vendor credibility and buyer confidence. Several countries across the world have implemented ETV in the form of national or regional programmes. ETV in the European Union was implemented as a voluntary scheme if a form of a pilot programme. The European Commission launched the Environmental Technology Pilot Programme of the European Union (EU ETV) in 2011. The paper describes the European model of ETV set up and put to operation under the Pilot Programme of Environmental Technologies Verification of the European Union. The goal, objectives, technological scope, involved entities are presented. An attempt has been made to summarise the results of the EU ETV scheme performance available for the period of 2012 when the programme has become fully operational until the first half of 2016. The study was aimed at analysing the overall organisation and efficiency of the EU ETV Pilot Programme. The study was based on the analysis of the documents the operation of the EU ETV system. For this purpose, a relevant statistical analysis of the data on the performance of the EU ETV system provided by the European Commission was carried out.

This present study contribute to provide a simple technology to early detect the phenomenon of spontaneous coal combustion. A new prototype is designated to detect the CO gas formation as a product of initial coal oxidation. Moreover, several parameters including coal quality, coal weight sample, ambient temperature, and air flow were employed to investigate the effects of each parameter to the CO formation time. The results show that the coal characterisation have a significant effect in the CO formation time where the coal having a higher fixed carbon and high grass calorific values provide the high liability of spontaneous coal combustion. However, these finding only occurred in low weight sample where in the high coal weight sample only fixed carbon plays the main role in determining the CO formation time. Furthermore, the prototype ambient temperature become the important parameter in the boosting of CO formation time where airflow only enhance the CO formation time in low temperature condition (below 29°C). Moreover, these findings opens a new sight in coal management, especially in Indonesia, where controlling the coal and atmosphere temperature could effectively prevent the spontaneous coal combustion especially in coal stockpile. Nevertheless, the other factor including airflow and coal weight sample also need perfect controlling because all of these factors potentially create a perfect environment to combust the coal spontaneously.

The data of individual sector on environmental science is compiled in information technology (IT) through database software known as Environment Information (EI). Environment information is an easy accessible database in individual sector, where people can know both new research scope and impact on environment. The present study deals to inform that EI is an area, in which the knowledge of environmental science and IT is combined through database software. In this paper, individual research area, data format and beneficial aspects on environmental science is tabulated for EI. There are several research areas in which the data viz. ecology and ecosystem, biodiversity and conservation of important species, health hazards by diseases, health care facilities, toxicological aspects, wastes types, source generation and management, alternative energy generation facilities, environment education and awareness etc. It is a conceptual approach to gather knowledge of environment related problems and prospects and can easily make a database for the intellectuals, academicians, scientists, regulatory authorities, policy makers, researchers, students etc. These help to know benefits in research area, regulatory process, decision making and proper environment management. People can easily access compiled database in an individual sector of environment science.

International transfers of the environmental protection technologies are increasingly important in the international trade and economic development. The article’s aim is to discuss the subject and the level of international transfers in the environmental protection sector in connection with the development of the R&D sector in the chosen European countries. In the framework of selected European Union countries there were analyzed the relationships between the international transfer of eco-technologies and the research and development sector, which turned out to be positive. The methodology was based on the presenting, comparing and measuring the strength of the connection between the international transfers in environmental protection technologies and the R&D sector characteristics. The limitation of the research turned out to be the lack of the data after 2013 year and lack of the data for each European country. The practical implication of the analysis is that the support for the R&D sector can cause better environmental protection technologies exchange between countries and from the social point of view – better natural environment for the society in general.

Technology has tremendously shaped human society, economy and environment. The quest for better ways to human development has always been a key driver of technological advancement. However, such advancements have somewhat turned human beings to slaves of modern technology, its effects are therefore devastating. Several philosophers of technology have described technology as alienating: making humans lose their connection with fellow beings and nature, besides causing environmental degradation. Even though civilisation faces new unprecedented challenges regarding the negative impacts of technology on human societies, it can still be useful. This work posits that environmental challenges threatening humanity are not something that can be simply overcome by reducing or increasing technological use, but rather by humans re-thinking the attitude in which technology is applied to the environment. This study investigates the possibility of environmental sustainability through the ethics of anthropoholism. This work agrees with several environmentalists that the traditional anthropocentric attitude, which sees the environment only as a store-house for human exploitation with the use of technology is the major reason behind environmental degradation. This research reveals that humans need to adopt the ethics of anthropoholism, which sees the environment as having inherent value and humans as caretakers of the environment. Anthropoholism is the idea that human beings are a part of nature and that (s)he cannot exist independently of the environment, hence technological tools should be developed and applied with the live and let live attitude towards the environment. This study, as philosophical research, is critical in approach and uses the textual and contextual analytic method in arriving at its conclusions.

Głównym celem artykułu jest opisanie procesu zarządzania ryzykiem w jednostce inspekcyjnej weryfikującej technologie środowiskowe oraz koncepcji jego integracji z inteligentnym systemem zarządzania jakością (ISZJ). Proces zarządzania ryzykiem opisano na podstawie badań przeprowadzonych w roku 2016 w jednej z polskich jednostek inspekcyjnych oferującej usługi w zakresie weryfikacji technologii środowiskowych ETV (Environmental Technology Verification). W opracowaniu opisano wymagania jakie powinien spełniać system zarządzania jakością takiej jednostki w tym jej proces zarządzania ryzykiem. Wynik badań pozwoliły na opracowanie i zaprezentowanie w niniejszym opracowaniu koncepcji wykorzystania procesu zarządzania ryzykiem jako elementu wspomagającego mechanizmy doskonalenia inteligentnego systemu zarządzania jakością.
The article describes the process of risk management in one of the polish verification bodies. Furthermore, the article provides the concept of the integration process described risk management process with improvement mechanism characteristic for intelligent quality management system (IQMS). The risk management process is described on the basis of research conducted in the verification body offering services in the field of environmental technology verification [ETV]. The study was conducted in 2016.

One of the methods allowing the use of solar energy being a renewable, alternative form of energy is the environmental cleaning technology. It was stated that many types of pollutants, regardless of their toxicity and resistance to biodegradation, can be effectively degraded in photocatalytic processes initiated by sunlight. Among many different heterogeneous photocatalysts examined, titania (TiO2) is one of the commonly used in these processes. Unfortunately, in practice the main problem connected with the use of photocatalytic processes is their low quantum yield. In our opinion, the addition of Fe(III) salts to the reaction mixture will be a simple and inexpensive method that increases this yield. It was confirmed in studies on the photocatalytic degradation of many organic compounds, differing in chemical structure and properties. The goal of our study was to compare the results of photocatalytic degradation carried out in the presence of TiO2 or Fe(III) salts as well in the presence of a mixture TiO2 with Fe(III) salts. It was found that the ability of organic substrates to form the coordination complexes with Fe(III) ions and their adsorption onto TiO2 surface has the greatest effect on the course of photocatalytic reaction and its efficiency. Based on the literature data and own studies we propose a probable mechanism of process carried out in the presence of TiO2/Fe(III) mixture.
Jedną z metod zagospodarowania energii słonecznej jest jej wykorzystanie w technologiach oczyszczania środowiska. W inicjowanych światłem słonecznym procesach fotokatalitycznych mogą być skutecznie degradowane zanieczyszczenia, niezależnie od swojej toksyczności i odporności na biodegradację. Fotokatalizatorem w takich procesach najczęściej jest TiO2. Niestety problemem tych procesów jest ich niska wydajność kwantowa. Prostą i tanią metodą jej podwyższenia jest dodatek soli Fe(III). Fakt ten potwierdzono w badaniach nad fotokatalityczną degradacją wielu substratów zróżnicowanych pod względem chemicznym. Celem naszej pracy było porównanie rezultatów degradacji fotokatalitycznej prowadzonej w obecności TiO2, soli Fe(III) i w obecności mieszaniny TiO2/sól Fe(III) oraz ustalenie mechanizmu procesu fotokatalitycznego prowadzonego w obecności TiO2/sól Fe(III). Stwierdzono, że na przebieg reakcji i jej efektywność największy wpływ ma zdolność organicznego substratu do tworzenia związku koordynacyjnego z Fe(III) i jego sorpcji na powierzchni TiO2. Na podstawie danych literaturowych i badań własnych ustalono mechanizm początkowego etapu tej reakcji.

The paper presents the results of a multi-stage ultrafiltration process of industrial waste brines with the use of a pilot plant and commercial ceramic membranes. The purpose of the study was to analyse the applicability of ultrafiltration and membranes of various cut-off for the treatment of waste brines and fractionation of proteins contained therein. Research on the membrane process was performed under constant conditions: transmembrane pressure TMP = 0.2 MPa, velocity of a saline over the surface of the membrane CFV = 6 m/s, the temperature T = 25°C using ceramic membranes with a cut-off of 300, 150 and 50 kDa. In tests run in the semi-open ultrafiltration system (continuous discharge of a permeate and retentate recirculation) there were analysed the concentration of protein in permeate and retentate, as well as the recovery of the permeate QP. Results of microbiological tests on used brines and permeates after ultrafiltration process performed by an independent testing laboratory are also presented.
Przedstawiono wyniki badań wieloetapowego procesu ultrafiltracji zużytych solanek przemysłowych z zastosowaniem instalacji pilotowej oraz komercyjnych membran ceramicznych. Celem badań była analiza możliwości zastosowania ultrafiltracji i membran o różnym cut-off do oczyszczania zużytych solanek i frakcjonowania protein w nich zawartych. Badania procesu membranowego wykonano w stałych warunkach: ciśnienie transmembranowe TMP = 0,2 MPa, prędkość solanki nad powierzchnią membrany CFV = 6 m/s, temperatura T = 25ºC z zastosowaniem membran ceramicznych o cut-off 300, 150 i 50 kDa. W testach ultrafiltracyjnych realizowanych w systemie półotwartym (ciągłe odprowadzanie permeatu i zawracanie retentatu) analizowano zawartość protein w permeatach i retentatach oraz stopień odzysku permeatu Qp. Przedstawiono również wyniki badań mikrobiologicznych zużytych i oczyszczonych solanek wykonane przez dwa niezależne laboratoria.

The study of environmental loads resulting from manufacturing technology is of great importance for environmental protection. Applying the principles of sustainable development means "a way of farming in which meeting the needs of the present generation will not reduce the chances of meeting the needs of future generations." Faced with such a challenge, the product must be assessed throughout its entire life cycle (LCA). From the available technologies and materials, one should choose those that are least harmful to the environment. In order to make a correct choice, it is necessary to know and understand the technological processes and phenomena that take place in them. Using off-theshelf LCA applications, without knowing basic knowledge of manufacturing technology, can bias the results. The aim of the article is to present benefits resulting from the environmental assessment of manufacturing processes.
