The present project has taken two spatial dimensions: regional and pan-regional. As far the regional dimension is concerned, I focused on the region of the lower Oder river. The main objective of this project was to create the fundamentals of taxonomic-chronological systematics of Corded Ware Culture materials for this region as well as summarise and verify previous achievements of studies on the aforementioned issue. However, as regards the pan-regional dimension, I attempted at discussing this region against the background of a wider communicative community– the circum-Baltic circle of Corded Ware Culture.

The title phrase “photographic enclave” expresses the condition of projects that tell about a city using a photographic medium. The article discusses three audiovisual works that use photos to portray New York and its inhabitants: Smoke by Wayne Wang and Paul Auster, Stefan Nadelman’s Terminal Bar, and the multimedia project One in 8 Million. The works represent a variety of film models (drama, documentary, interactive media), and their authors use the formal and cognitive aspects of photography in a different ways. The aim of the article is to analyze the function of photography for portraying urban communities and to see if this treatment was successful.

Opis:
This research project is devoted to the urgent problems of import substitution and food security in the Russian exclave (Kaliningrad region). It examines the stages and status of the development of the agriculture system in the region using a bifurcation analysis. This analysis reflects problematic zones, and the current crisis conditions of the (Russian) agro-industrial system. In an attempt to ensure food security, the research addresses the development and procedures of the agricultural sector in Kaliningrad. The development risks of the enterprises dealing with agriculture were evaluated and possible ways of development were offered and estimated. Prior to this study, the business–process of agriculture was created, thereby making the examination process on this topic easier.
Badania przedstawione w artykule są poświęcone problemom substytucji importu i bezpieczeństwu żywnościowemu w obwodzie Kaliningradzkim. W artykule rozpatruje się stan i status rozwoju systemu rolnictwa w regionie, przy wykorzystaniu analizy rozwidlonej. Analiza dotyczy problematycznych zagadnień i bieżącego kryzysu w rosyjskim systemie rolniczoprzemysłowym. Badania prowadzone są w celu zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego w Kaliningradzie. W artykule analizie i ocenie poddano także źródła ryzyka związane z analizowanym problemem. Opracowano także model procesu rolniczego w celu uproszczenia prowadzonych rozważań.

Opis:
Nadmiar związków organicznych i składników biogennych w wodach powierzchniowych stanowi istotne zagrożenie dla środowiska naturalnego. W pracy przeprowadzono analizę uzyskanych wyników dla oczek położonych na terenie Arboretum Akademii Rolniczej we Wrocławiu i na tej podstawie określono stan jakości wody i możliwości jego poprawy. Woda znajdująca się w stawach na terenie Arboretum charakteryzuje się niskim stężeniem tlenu rozpuszczonego wynoszącym średnio 3,7 mg O2/dm3 dla stawu S1 i 6,8 mg O2/dm3 dla stawu S2 oraz wysokimi wartościami wskaźników tlenowych - BZT5 i ChZTMn. Na uwagę zasługuje również bardzo wysokie średnie stężenie amoniaku odpowiednio 3,33 mgNH4/dm3 dla S1 i 2,24 mg NH4/dm3 dla S2. Woda z tych stawów zawiera również dużo fosforu. Poprawę jakości wód powierzchniowych w Arboretum można uzyskać poprzez usunięcie odpadów znajdujących się w stawach i przynajmniej części osadów dennych zgromadzonych w nich oraz uporządkowanie gospodarki wodo-ściekowej na terenie przyległym do Arboretum.
Surplus of organic and biogenic compounds in surface waters poses a serious risk to the natural environment. The work presents ananalysis of data obtained from small ponds located within the Arboretum of the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences. The data was used as a basis for assessing the quality of water and potential for its improvement. The water in the Arboretum ponds was characterized by low concentration of dissolved oxygen on the average level of 3,7 mg O2/dm3 for S1 pond and 6,8 O2/dm3 for S2 pond and height values of oxygen indicators :BOD5 and CODMn. Worth mentioning is also a very high average ammonium concentration: 3,33 NH4/dm3 for S1 pond and 2,24 NH4/dm3 for S2 pond, respectively. The water in the ponds had also very high phosphorus content. Improvement of the water quality of the Arboretum ponds can be achieved by removing the waste from the ponds and atleast some bottom sediments accumulated in them alongside with improved water and wastewater management in the area adjacent to the Arboretum.

The Wire of Death as a Border Guard. An Unknown Episode of the Great War 1914–1918 along the Dutch–Belgian FrontierFor four long years the First World War changed the relations between the Kingdom of The Netherlands and the Kingdom of Belgium, with the former remaining neutral in the conflict while the latter became a theatre of particularly bloody hostilities. In the province of North Brabant, which was part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, at a small distance from border with the Kingdom of Belgium there lies a locality bearing the double name of Baarle–Hertog and Baarle–Nassau – a Dutch–Belgian jigsaw composed of 30 enclaves. The German armies decided not to attack the Belgian enclaves since they could not do so without violating the neutrality of the Dutch. In order to prevent the inflow into The Netherlands of volunteers who could come to the aid of the army defending itself in the Yzer river valley, in January 1915 the German troops embarked upon setting up networks of barbed wire along the entire Belgian border (450 kms long) from the Zwin inlet in Knokke to the suburbs of Aix–la–Chapelle. The unique frontier encircling the Belgian enclaves was composed of electric barbed wire known as the „Wire of Death”, which took the lives of numerous victims and was the source of the tragic plight of all thus separated families. The border in question also divided small towns and villages, sometimes in half. The presented text discusses several such instances. The author concentrated predominantly on the functioning of the lethal frontier and the life of people residing on both its sides. He also described the history of Baarle–Hertog, a little– known fragment of free Belgium within Dutch Branat, and its role in obtaining information about the plans and activity of the German occupant.

W artykule podjąłem próbę rekonstrukcji definicji nazwy Kosznajderia (nieistniejącej już niemieckiej enklawy na ziemiach polskich) za pomocą metody analizy pola semantycznego. Jednostką analizy była dawna polska prasa lokalna i regionalna roku oraz piśmiennictwo od 1873 do 1939 roku. Analiza materiałów źródłowych ujawniła brak istotnych różnic w przekazie prasowym na temat omawianej krainy i zamieszkującej ją wspólnoty Kosznajdrów pozwalających na wyraźne postawienie linii demarkacyjnej pomiędzy okresem zaborów, kiedy to Kosznajderia była jeszcze w pozycji uprzywilejowanej, jako część narodu niemieckiego, a okresem II Rzeczypospolitej, kiedy to wszelkie mniejszości traktowane były w wyraźniej opozycji do podmiotowości państwa polskiego, szczególnie mniejszość niemiecka. Dlatego też zaproponowana definicja Kosznajderii zawiera w sobie cechy wyodrębnione z analizy pola semantycznego obejmujące swym zasięgiem zabory i dwudziestolecie międzywojenne jako jedną spójną definicję, której jednak nie traktuję jako ostateczną, a jedynie jako punkt odniesienia do dalszych eksploracji i ustaleń naukowych socjologów, etnografów, historyków czy prasoznawców. W analizie sięgam również po teksty niemieckich autorów piszących na łamach periodyków naukowych, a nie niemieckiej prasy, która nie była przedmiotem mojej analizy.
The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the definition of Kosznajderia (the now non-existent German eclave in Poland) by using the method ofsemantic field analysis. The subject of the research involved the Polish local and regional press as well as literary writing from 1873 to 1939. The analysis of the gathered sources revealed that there were no significant differences in the press release about the land and the Kosznajderia community that lived there at that time. Moreover, it is impossible to draw a line between the times when Kosznajderia was still in a privileged position as a part of the German nation and the times that we used to call the Second Republic of Poland. During that time, all national minorities were treated in clear opposition to the subjectivity of the Polish state, not to mention the German minority. This is why the definition of Kosznajderia covers all the features extracted from the analysis of the semantic field, including the partition times and the interwar period. As a result, it is one consistent definition. However, I do not consider it as a final one, but, rather, as a reference point for further research conducted by sociologists, ethnographers, historians, and press studies scholars. During my analysis, I take into consideration texts that were written by German authors who publish their work in scientific journals, although I omitted the German press that was not a subject of my analysis.
