Opis:
Though the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) systems are wide use in modern vehicles, they are manufactured by a few companies and supplied to engine manufacturers. Automotives with factory made ECUs designed to maximize the performance while minimize cost. However, factory made ECUs (FECU) have closed software and hardware. The control gain, lookup tables, and constants used in the algorithms are also calibrated for a particular engine design. Unlike the carburettor, these systems cannot be opened and studied under different operating conditions to determine their characteristics and how they influence the performance of an engine. They can be used as black boxes and work only at specified modes as determined by their electronic control unit (ECU) and more over the algorithms and their implementation are maintained as trade secret by the developers. In the research work, it often becomes necessary to study parameters like injection duration, injection timing, sensor responses etc. to ascertain their effects. Thus in such cases the factory made ECU supplied with the injection system cannot be used. The required need is fulfilled by developing a customized electronic controller that would be suitable for studying the variations at engine operating points. The project involved the development of a research ECU (RECU) using reconfigurable field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) based embedded control system for a four-stroke port fuel injected gasoline engine. A calibrated fuel map is generated for various operating points of the engine using virtual instrumentation (VI) based software while simulating functions of sensors. From the mapping, the fuel injection time and fuel delivery quantity is estimated for the required running conditions of the engine. The developed Research Electronic Control Unit (RECU) could reveal gasoline engine performance in particular for research-based applications as it involves frequent programme development and control implementations.

Due to the legal changes in the exhaust emission limits in the European Union meeting the new norms becomes more challenging for car manufacturers. The recent progress in the exhaust aftertreatment technology and commercially available aftertreatment systems. However, as the exhaust, systems become more and more complex the problem of high emissions in many engine-operating points that are not currently a part of the type approval tests remains. The article aims to address the limitations of the oxidation catalysts in current aftertreatment systems, mainly their light-off temperature, by investigating new options for in-cylinder catalysts. Placing the catalytic layer within the combustion chamber avoids a number of problems associated with these catalysts being a part of the aftertreatment system. Engine emission tests have been performed comparing the effects of using an in-cylinder Pt-Rh catalytic layer in relation to hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxides emissions. The viable methods of producing a catalytic layer on engine components along with the choice of components to use for catalytic surfaces have also been discussed.

The combustion stability and more in details the cyclic variability significantly influences the performance and the pollutant emissions of a spark ignition engine. In this work, an experimental research activity was carried out to investigate the influence of the different combustion phases on the cycle-to-cycle variation. In particular the flame kernel development and the fuel deposits burning were investigated by in-cylinder pressure measurements and optical investigations. Engine cycle resolved visualization was applied to characterize the spatial evolution of the flame front from the spark ignition until the exhaust phase. A numerical custom post-detection procedure was used to correlate the optical data with the pressure related parameters during the combustion process. The simultaneous use of optical diagnostics and pressure related analysis demonstrated the fundamental role of the first stage and late phase of the combustion on the spark ignition engine process. Flame kernel and diffusion controlled flame due to fuel deposits burning dominated the cyclic variability of in-cylinder combustion. The experiments were realized in a 250 cm3 single cylinder, port fuel injection, four-stroke spark ignition engine. The engine was optically accessible and it was equipped with the head, injection system and exhaust device of a commercial engine mounted on small motorcycles and scooters. Standard EURO IVgasoline was used.

Opis:
Among the drivers influencing vehicular powertrain development, the field of vehicular exhaust emissions is experiencing wideranging and rapid changes. New emissions regulations such as Euro 6d and new test methods (RDE and WLTP) are the main challenges for the automotive industry caused by political, socioeconomic and technical factors. Air quality is very high on the political agenda and pressure remains to limit and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the road transport sector. In addition to limits becoming increasingly stringent, the list of parameters subject to legal limits are slowly expanding – and, most importantly, these limits must be met under a wide range of conditions. A range of strategies are available to overcome these difficulties, which was explored during the 6th International Exhaust Emissions Symposium (IEES) hosted at BOSMAL in June 2018. This paper reports and summarises the topics of the 6th IEES and attempts a synthesis on the current status of the field of IC engines, hybrid powertrains and electric vehicles and what the coming years may hold for the automotive and fuel industries and other allied fields.

Opis:
The control of nox emissions from marine engines proves a challenge. Diesel engine manufacturers have been investigating a variety of methods with aim of reducing nox emissions. Currently, the plasma technology is undergoing rapid development in application to diesel engine exhausts. A combination of non-thermal plasma with catalysts can be referred to plasma assisted catalysts technology. This paper briefly describes research efforts aimed at non-thermal plasma reactor development for ship use with primary focus on NO oxidation condition. The part scale plasma reactor models have been designed and manufactured for the purpose of this trial. Exhaust emission plasma after-treatment module was fitted on exhaust outlet path of the marine test bed engine for fractional exhaust gas stream examination. Subsequently, the comprehensive series of trials were performed to assess the exhaust flow properties of the main exhaust channel and plasma reactor by-pass duct. Emission measurements were carried out on engine at steady-state operation. The NO reaction activity was a major task of the experiment and throughout the measurements, the engine outlet nox levels (NO and NO2) were monitored with simultaneous NO, NO2, N2O level recording after NTP reactor.

The paper describes the work of high speed charged spark ignition overhead poppet valve two-stroke engine, which enables to achieve higher total efficiency and exhaust gas emission comparable to four-stroke engines. The work of such engines is possible by proper choice ofvalve timings, geometrical parameters of inlet, outlet ducts and charge pressure. The engine has to be equipped with direct fuel injection system enabling lower emission of pollutants. The work is based on theoretical considerations performed in GT-Power in previous authors' research and carried out in CFD code (KIVA 3 V) for different engine configurations. The initial results included in the paper show influence of inlet port geometry and charge pressure on engine scavenging process. Additionally, optimum fuel spray injector position was considered in order to obtain proper fuel vaporization and avoid significant wall-wetting. The simulation results show that the nitrogen oxides arę considerably reduced in comparison to four-stroke engines because ofhigher internal exhaust gas recirculation. The innovation of this proposal is applying of poppet intake and exhaust valves with turbocharging in the two-stroke engine and obtaining a significant downsizing effect. The conclusion shows the possibilities of proper gas exchange process in this type of two-stroke engine and thus, the feasibility of its application as a power unii for transportation means with higher total efficiency than traditional engines with possible change of engine work in two modes: two- and four-stroke cycles.

Opis:
Nowadays the wide range of spark ignition (SI) engines with spray guided direct injection (SGDI) is in production. Spray development is playing a major role in advanced engine design with three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Nevertheless still there is a need for improvement in CFD injection simulations because of the high pressure injection. The high pressure injection influences the drop breakup, coalescence and evaporation which are critical for proper representation of simulated phenomenon. Computer codes, like FIRE, give a possibility to simulate the process of injection with various types of breakup models. In spite of the importance of atomization, mechanisms of breakup are still not well understood. To obtain better understanding of breakup models simulations have been performed for the engine combustion chamber with inlet andoutlet system and SGDI strategy. For that the model was at first constructed and then imported to the Fire code. After meshing process the model has 2 million cells. The engine is not boosted and as fuel the ethanol is used. The calculations were performedfor 3500 rpm. The influence of different breakup regimes on the spray shape is presented in this study. Comparison is made for Wave, TAB (Taylor Analogy Breakup) and Reitz-Diwkar breakup models.

Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono w maju i czerwcu 2018 roku. Dane zostały przygotowane na podstawie ankiety, wysłanej do 33 bibliotek państwowych wyższych szkół zawodowych w Polsce. Zarejestrowano odpowiedzi z 14 instytucji (42%). Wyniki.
Introduction. The aim of this article is to present the opinion of catalogue specialists working in state libraries of Higher Vocational Schools (HVS) in Poland about descriptors of the National Library (dNL), presentation of data relating to the application of selected standards of Resource Description & Access (RDA) in the process of development of sets and information about the library system. Material and methods. The studies were conducted in May and June of 2018. Data were prepared on the basis of a survey sent to 33 libraries of the Higher Vocational Schools in Poland. The answers were registered from 14 institutions (42%). Results. The majority of the libraries which applied JHP BN currently apply dBN and have a positive opinion about them. The majority of them apply selected standards RDA. Search in the OPAC catalogues only in several cases is based on faceted search, whilst not all systems give such opportunity and the exchange of software carries the burden of significant finance means. Conclusions. The results show that libraries, which replied to the survey are open to changes, willingly applying new standards and making efforts to meet the needs of users visiting them.

The principle of the two-phase variable supercharging system applied to heavy-duty automotive diesel engines and car diesel engines is indicated. The experimental and numerical simulations results show that twophase sequential turbocharging system with two unequal-size turbochargers is effective to improve performance per liter and torque output at low speed, and improve acceleration performance, fuel consumption at low speed. However, achieving such benefits requires proper matching of the two unequal-size turbochargers to the engine and the steady switching boundary, and corresponding solutions are discussed.

Consumer-grade game engines such as Multimedia Fusion and RPG Maker have dramatically extended the reach of digital games as a medium. They have also spawned online communities, where conventions and canons of using these tools have evolved. These partly stem from the functional constraints of the game engines themselves and are institutionalized through manuals, examples, tutorials, and games made with them. However, some members of game engine communities actively seek to challenge these conventions by experimenting with the engines and finding ingenious ways to put them to unexpected uses. Such experiments can be regarded as a form of metacommentary on the engines’ capabilities and limitations. While arguably impractical and inefficient, they enrich the scope of what can be done with the engine and can contribute to its further development.

The combustion stability of a spark ignition engine significantly influences its performances. The cyclic variation is generally evaluated by the fluctuation of in-cylinder peak pressure which changes in both magnitude and position measured from TDC. In this work the cyclic variation of combustion process were analysed as function of crank angles. The different SI engine process phases were investigated. The pressure related data were correlated with cycle resolved visualization measurements. The cycle resolved digital imaging was applied to follow the kernel inception and growth and to study the flame front propagation until the exhaust phase. A custom numerical post-detection procedure was applied to correlate the optical data from the integral luminous signal measured in the combustion chamber with the pressure related parameters .The flame kernel and the abnormal combustion due to the fuel deposits burning resulted particular relevant for the cycle-to-cycle variations. Optical measurements outlined better than pressure related analysis the role of the early andfinal stages of the combustion process. The experiments were performed in a 400 cm3 single cylinder, port fuel injection, four-stroke spark ignition engine. The engine was optical accessible with the same geometrical parameters as a 1600 cm3 passenger car engine. An inter turbine combustion is one of modern direction of turbofan engine cycle modification. It is possible to reduce gas temperature in high-pressure turbine inlet section and reduce NOX emission by an additional combustor placed between high and low pressure turbines. The analysis of engine cycle modification and its performance are a scope of many scientific investigations, but it is not any work about engine dimension change due to cycle modification. By these way problems of two combustor engine components and dimensions, change with comparison to conventional turbofan engine is a goal of this work. The structure of a turbofan engine with inter turbine combustor is shown and results of evaluation temperature and pressure in specified engine cut sections are presented and discussed. Then the gas density is calculated and by mass continuity equation application, the specified cross section areas are determined. The results of two-combustor turbofan engine are compared with conventional high bypass turbofan engine. The comparison of engines parameters allow to predict how engine components should be modified in two-combustor turbofan when the base of modification is classic turbofan engine. The analyse contain determination of compressor and turbine stage numbers, prediction of areas of cross section and diameters in specified engine sections and overall engine axial dimensions. The results are used to formulate conclusion about the turbofan engine structure modification by additional combustor implementation between turbines.
