Opis:
As economics became a model-based science, ontological nature, cognitive status, and practical uses of economic models came under the spotlight of philosophers of economics and economic methodologists. However, what was strikingly missing was the interest in the cultural dimension of economic modeling. Some calls for thematizing “cultural framework” (Mäki), “enculturation” (Goldschmidt, Remmele), or “culture patterns” (Benton) of economic models have appeared in recent years, and this paper aims at addressing such calls. To this end, we start with the artifactual approach to economic models (Morgan, Knuuttila, Halsmayer), which cuts across the idealization–construction debate, and complement this approach with the cultural-semiotic component, drawing from the symbolic anthropology of Clifford Geertz. We thus come up with an interpretation of economic models as cultural artifacts, which enables us to address the insufficiently explored question of style in economic modeling using Nelson Goodman’s semiotic account of style.

Opis:
The issue of using the physical method in economics is no longer an innovative idea. However, nowadays the methods of mathematical quantum mechanics are also applied to economic sciences. This is the natural result of the fact that as applicable in quantum mechanics, mathematical spaces and tools turn out to be useful in other fields of science. Then it is possible to assume that the problem of the choice of the space is a universal question that is associated not only with mathematics and physics but also with economics or social sciences. In this paper the author considers various formulations of Hilbert space in relation to finite-dimensional quantum mechanics which constitutes a fundament to also apply my outcomes in economics. On the basis of mathematical considerations the author puts forward the hypothesis that the complex Hilbert space is characterized with numerous advantages in relation to its real and quaternionic alternatives.

Opis:
The goal of our paper is to make a critical analysis of selected growth models that use the notion of natural capital and to construct the alternative model. In particular we treat the natural capital as a renewable resource and we use CES production function, weakening the assumption of substitutability of natural capital with other forms of capital. We investigate the optimal paths for capital and consumption, giving their characterization in the dependence on the parameters of the model. The paper ends with conclusions derived from the model.

Since 1975, when the R. May and J.R. Beddington informed about the possibility of application of chaos theory in economics, built many new economic models with chaotic dynamics and chaos have been identified in a number of already existing models. This paper presents briefly the theory of deterministic chaos and properties of chaotic dynamic. In addition, presents some economic models of chaotic dynamics.

Among the neighboring countries that are members of the EU (Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland), Ukraine's closest trade and economic relations are developing with Polish partners. The article analyzes the features of the transformation processes in the two countries after the collapse of the USSR (1991), the reorientation of their political and economic aspirations from Moscow (CIS) to Brussels (EU). The importance and necessity of studying the experience of Poland in the process of its accession and strengthening of its positions in the EU were emphasized. The author investigated the factors, whose influence quadrupled the economic potential (GDP, nominal) of Poland in comparison with Ukraine for the period of 1991-2020. The purpose of this paper is to study trends in the development of bilateral trade and economic relations, to develop recommendations for the further expansion and diversification of trade in goods and services between countries, as well as to substantiate the need to use effective mechanisms and tools for the European convergence of the national economies of Poland and Ukraine. These proposals correlate with the European and Euro-Atlantic course of Ukraine with the active support of Poland as one of its most important strategic partners.

The task of controlling the development of the technical-economic system of agricultural production (TESAP) as the only cross-functional business process is carried out. The methodological approach to its solution is proposed, based on the use of marketing research methods and construction of a complex of interrelated models of market-oriented technological options for the development of TESAP and financial schemes of realization. Different ways of interaction of the optimization and simulation models in the complex are considered.

Regardless of the fact that economics distinguishes itself from other social sciences by a high level of formal deductive modelling, it is a social science due to the essence of the economic process where a human is a subject and an object at the same time. In recent years this issue has been more frequently emphasized by economists in ongoing discussions. In the discussions, a good deal of time is devoted to economic models and, mainly, their relations with the socioeconomic reality and coherence of empirical evidence. The article presents a thesis that some mainstream economic theories have not always constituted the background to their practical applications, which led - and still can lead- to the dogmatic and inflexible use of model solutions for economic phenomena which are difficult to forecast in a non-variant rigid model. The aim is to critically analyse the beliefs about the usefulness of universal economic models in the economic reality advocated by mainstream economists, and to prove that not all economic models have constituted the background to their practical applications.

Opis:
Aim: In the context of climate change this paper explores the value of models for evaluating energy costs by considering energy accounting and externalities instead of capitalistic economics.   Research methods: We test the hypothesis that the conventional economic model of the energy market can lead to inappropriate choices, and that those choices may be environmentally damaging. We examine energy accounting (energy return on energy investment), embodied energy and the incorporation of external costs as more valuable economic models.   Findings: This paper reviews existing economic tools and examines modifications, which, when applied to energy provision or efficiency and conservation of energy applications, may give more accurate information about investment, return and environmental damage. Energy accounting of schemes should be a preliminary requirement for all proposed energy schemes. Externalities are less readily applied, but as the costs associated with renewable energy are becoming competitive in conventional economic terms, they are less valuable than energy accounting.   Value of the paper: The paper concludes that a preliminary assessment of a proposed energy scheme should be undertaken using energy accounting and external costs to determine the true energy value. These models could be used to select the best environmental option. Indeed “energy uneconomic” schemes, which cost more energy than they deliver, should be abandoned in order to avoid unnecessary environmental damage. After this process, legislation and fiscal measures such as taxes and incentives could be applied to satisfy social and political imperatives. Examples of energy accounting in insulation and consideration of external costs in a proposed strategy to replace fossil-fuelled electrical generation in Indonesia are included in the paper.   Limitations: We have not considered the serious question of finite fossil fuel resources and feel that this would be a profitable line of research.
