The research was undertaken due to the lack of synthetic studies and collections concerning monumental trees in the spa towns in Poland. We investigated all 45 towns with such a status. The article presents the numerical and species data of the nature monument trees. For individual species, the average breast height diameter is also given. A database of nature monuments was created (separately for coniferous and deciduous trees), covering over 90% of monumental trees that are located in all spa towns in Poland. Data for the study were obtained mainly from spas and spatial conditions and directions of communes and from the Central Register of Nature Conservation Forms as well as the General as well as regional directorates of Environmental Protection. In addition, field observations were made in selected spa towns. There were over 1507 monument trees in Polish health resorts. They represented 26 coniferous species (including Larix decidua, Taxus baccata) and 50 deciduous species with different varieties (including Tilia cordata, Carpinus betulus, Quercus robur). Followig spas were the towns with the highest number of monumental tree (over 50): Nałęczów, Kołobrzeg, Szczawno−Zdrój, Szczawnica, Cieplice, Kamień Pomorski, Jedlina−Zdrój, and Konstancin−Jeziorna. Constant monitoring and field inventory of missing monument trees in health resorts in Poland is recommended. Periodic inventory of monumental trees should lead to the desired quantitative and qualitative structure of trees and to protect further valuable specimens from the natural and social point of view. Trees growing in the spa towns perform a number of functions, including particularly important health care. Places with monumental tree species gain in value and therefore it is necessary to protect them and to continue research, one of which is presented in this article.

The paper presents results of a survey of natural monuments and monumental trees in the Góra county, Poland. During the field research it was found that there are 32 monuments of nature in the commune of Góra, five objects in the Jemielno commune, five objects in the Niechlów commune, and 46 monuments of nature in the Wąsosz commune. A total number of 93 trees were inventoried – 80 individual trees and one avenue. Six trees could not be found due to lack of information about their location. The health condition of most of the monuments can be considered as very good, most of the trees have minor damage to the branches. Nevertheless, there are specimens with worse health, and even a few are dead. Seventhy six monuments of nature of the Górowski commune are native species, among which the most common are pedunculate oaks (53 trees). The tree with the largest circumference of 819 cm. is a plane tree (monument of nature No. 351, Lechitów, Wąsosz commune). Numerical changes were noticed in the case of the platane alley in Ślubów and two other monuments of nature. There are no monuments of inanimate nature in the Górowski commune. There are 28 individual trees eligible for protection under the monument of nature.

The Wzniesienia Łódzkie Landscape Park was founded in 1996 within the administrative boundaries of Łódź and Skierniewice provinces. It encompasses a fragment of the edge zone of Northern Brink Heights which is characterized by considerable relative altitudes and large slope declivities. In the upland landscape of the park old and sightly trees play a significant role. They grow most often in villages, next to places of religious worship and national memorials. While preparing an inventory, many trees fulfilling the criteria of a natural monument were found. Of these only some specimens have been subject to legal protection. Valuable old trees may be also found in rural parks. Within the Wzniesienia Łódzkie Landscape Park 5 objects of this type can be found, the most valuable of them being the ancient manor-park in Klęk. Due to inadequate professional care most of them are in a doubtful state.

Opis:
Old Common Oaks (Quercus robur L.), often connected with myths and legends, are the largest trees occurring in Central Europe. The present paper describes twelve largest girthed specimens of the species growing in Poland. Authors, based on their own measurements and researches, prepared a ranking list of these unique trees and estimated their health condition. Moreover, their exact localizations in Mielno, Bąkowo, Piotrowice, Kadyny, Januszkowice, Zagnańsk, Rogalin, Nogat, Węglówka, Młock, Rudka and Karczmiska were described and most popular facts and stories from their history were given. The largest girthed Common Oak in Poland is “Napoleon” growing in Mielno (1042,5 cm in circumference), the second one is the oak from Bąkowo (1020 cm) and the third – “Chrobry” from Piotrowice. In total in Poland there are three specimens of Common Oaks with trunk circumference of more than 1000 cm, and five more with circumference between 900 and 1000 cm.

In this paper a preliminary list and characterization of the synantropic flora found in the area of Nowy Tomysl in 1999-2002, has been presented. The variety of the vascular flora of this town is an effect of differentiation of habitats and human economic activity. The vascular flora of Nowy Tomysl consists of 240 taxon. Among plants predominate perennial plants and apophytes.
