Opis:
The combustion and emission characteristics of homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) fuelled by methyl decanoate (MD) with different engine speeds and dimethyl ether (DME) mixing ratios are investigated in this work. Engine data of a MAN B&W 6S70MC low-speed two-stroke marine diesel engine were used for the reactor. The results show that a decrease of engine speed has little effect on the in-cylinder temperature and pressure of the engine at constant excess air coefficient of 1.5. Meanwhile, NOx emissions decrease with a decrease of engine speed in pure MD HCCI combustion. The results also indicate that NOx and CO2 emissions decrease significantly with an increase in the percentage of DME in MD and DME mixing combustion at a constant total mole fraction and engine speed of 85 revolutions per minute (r/min).

The paper presents an evaluation of the various quality parameters of biofuels used to power diesel engines and engines, including the current findings in this regard made to the Scientific Committee for the Affairs of the World Wide Fuel Charter. Characterizes the requirements for ethanol and methyl esters of fatty acids, presented in addition to the fourth edition of WWFC, published in March 2009. Characterized the basic problems of storage, distribution, and operation of FAME and ethanol as a first-generation biofuels. Also presents the basic operating conditions resulting from the research for these fuels. Presents the future prospects of biofuels for motor set in the Roadmap for Biofuels for Transport, developed by the International Energy Agency, including fuels derived from syngas, using solar energy ("solar fuels") and furan derivatives. Characterized the need for changes in the classification of biofuels and make them permanent division of conventional biofuels (previously used) and the preferred biofuels in the future - advanced biofuel. The characteristics of alternative fuel for diesel: dimethyl ether (DME) and an analysis of the potential to reduce emissions of toxic compounds by the engines when running on this fuel have been presented in this work. Basic types of design solutions of gas supply and control systems, possible for use in internal combustion engines with DME supply have been also presented. The paper presents a study of the legislation and an analysis of the feasibility of the system storage and fueling DME on board small vessels.

The main problem that the automotive industry has been dealing with since the beginning of the XXI century is the need to reduce the exhaust emissions from piston combustion engines. Another, not at all less important problem is the depleting natural resources of crude oil. There are many concepts aiming at resolving of the said issues. One of them is the possibility of application of dimethyl ether (DME) in a classic engine. The paper characterizes this fuel, drawing attention to the aspects related to the adaptation of the engine to this type of fuel, presents the process of its atomization and relevant exhaust emissions.

The use of clean alternative fuels is the one of the most perspective method that aiming at resolving of the said issues. One of the promising alternative fuels that can be used as a clean high-efficiency compression ignition fuel with reduced of toxic emissions is dimethyl ether (DME). Moreover, it can be produced from various feedstocks such as natural gas, coal, biomass and others. This article describes the properties and the potential of DME application on the combustion and emission reduction characteristics of the compression ignition engines.

Opis:
The paper presents a computational simulation energy recovery of methanol dehydration to dimethyl ether (DME) in industrial process plant. Heat recovery technology from the viewpoint of energy saving in the environmental protection for the two key nodes in the system: reactor and distillation column was examined. Limited energy helps reduce emissions associated with the combustion of fuels into the atmosphere. Currently operating technological installations should be characterized by energy- and material savings, where significantly reducing the impact of harmful emissions into the environment. These simulations are a valuable tool to support the design of installation to preliminary estimate benefits of circuit materials and energy which introduces a significant innovation in the environmental protection.

Opis:
The production processes included catalytic dehydration of methanol in an adiabatic fixed-bed reactor and two columns product separations. In this study, the technological process for dimethyl ether (DME) synthesis is built on PRO/II platform based on the combined parameters of the reaction dynamic model for methanol dehydration reaction, the improved NRTL model of the liquid phase, the PR model of vapor phase. In order to validate the proposed model, the simulation results have been compared with the available data from a set of industrial production equipment with a production capacity of 200 000 tonnes per annum. A comparison between the calculated and measured results has proved that these results are satisfactory. The bed height and the volume of the catalytic bed are calculated aim at one million t/a DME yields and while taking account of high-purity DME production. After discussing the influence of feed stage location and reflux ratio for DME product purity, the suitable unit operation conditions are chosen. Accordingly, accurate process simulation results provide the basis and guidance for an improvement and development of the similar industrial device.

The paper presents the results of tests of the SI engine fuelled by LPG with the addition of DME in the form of a mixture of gaseous fuels. Experimental tests were carried out on a chassis dynamometer in the full range of engine loads, at a fixed rotational speed: 2000, 2500 and 3000 rpm. The use of dimethyl ether (DME) as a fuel component makes it possible to exploit its important advantages. DME can be produced as a renewable fuel, which is important from the point of view of ecology. Another important fact is the presence of oxygen in this fuel, which has a positive effect on the engine volumetric efficiency. During the tests, the ignition timing was also adjusted due to the very good DME flammability. Two additional correction levels were applied, increasing the ignition advance by 3 and 6 CA degrees, compared to the factory settings of the driver. The analysis of the obtained results allowed determining the dependence of the basic engine parameters, in the function of the correction of ignition advance angle. In the summary, attention was also paid to the possibility of determining corrected maps of the ignition advance angle taking into account the variable proportions of fuel components.

Niniejsze opracowanie jest kontynuacją prowadzonego przez autorów programu badań nad aktywatorami spalania alternatywnych paliw gazowych, wykorzystywanych do napędu pojazdów samochodowych. Zaprezentowano w nim wybrane parametry dynamiczne samochodu napędzanego mieszaniną LPG i eteru dwumetylowego, którego udział masowy zawierał się w zakresie od 5 do 26%. Dla każdej z mieszanin określono również zużycie energii oraz sprawność jej przetworzenia w układzie napędowym badanego pojazdu, napędzanego czterocylindrowym silnikiem o pojemności skokowej 1.6 dm³.
This paper present is continuing of research programme about gaseous fuels combustion activators which are used for vehicle feeding. The article presented chosen vehicle dynamic parameters gained by mixing LPG and DME for range of mixture from 5 up to 30%. The vehicle was powered by 1.6 SI engine adapted to gaseus fuels feeding. The work presents results of used energy and it convert efficiency at the driveline system fitted four cylinders SI engine with 1.6 cm³ capacity.

The results of SI engine fueled with blends of LPG and DME are presented in the paper. The range studies submitted includes measurements at varying engine loads, at selected values of speed. The research was conducted on a chassis dynamometer, specifying the engine load by the degree of throttle opening. Value of the mass fraction of DME in the blend with LPG was determined based on previous analyzes. The selected fuel blends containing from 7 to 17% DME (mass fraction). During the study was also performed a series of comparative measurements with pure LPG. Analyses show that of DME can be used as a partial substitute for LPG in SI engines. Its presence does not a negative impact on performance and emissions of the engine. The obtained results indicate that the amount of addition of DME should be varied depending on the engine load. Moreover, the use of this fuel does not require changes to the design fueling system and storage of LPG.

The paper presents a continuation of a research program related to the activators for gaseous fuels used in modern vehicles. Selected vehicle dynamic parameters obtained by the application of a mixture of LPG and DME for the mass share of 0 to 26 % have been presented. The object of the research was a 1.6 SI engine adapted to a combustion of gaseous fuels. The authors present the results of the energy conversion efficiency in a four cylinder SI 1.6 cm3 engine.
Artykuł prezentuje wybrane wyniki badań nad aktywatorami spalania alternatywnych paliw gazowych, wykorzystywanych do napędu pojazdów samochodowych. Określono wpływ udziału DME w mieszaninie DME-LPG na sprawność przetwarzania energii w silniku ZI. Obiektem badań był czterocylindrowy silnik napędzający samochód Opel Astra, wyposażony w dodatkowy układ zasilania, typu PFI. W badaniach wykorzystano mieszaniny DME-LPG o udziale masowym DME od 0 do 26 %. Dla każdej z mieszanin zrealizowano kilka serii pomiarowych, w ustalonych warunkach pracy silnika. Wyjaśniono wpływ udziału DME w mieszaninie na osiągi silnika, a także podstawowe parametry charakteryzujące proces spalania. Stwierdzono, że masowy udział DME nieprzekraczający 11 % wpływa na zwiększenie sprawności przetworzenia energii, przyrost ciśnienia, stopień wypalenia ładunku i ilość wydzielanego ciepła.
