Underwater acoustic channels are characterized by multipath phenomenon whose characteristics are time varying. Multipath propagation contributes to signal fading, and causes intersymbol interference (ISI) in a digital communication system. Raised cosine filters are widely used in wireless communication systems and the effects of these filters are crucial to wireless communication systems, for example underwater communication systems. Pulse shaping filters are commonly used in digital data communication systems to limit intersymbol interference. Thus, digital filters have been recognized as primary digital signal processing operation. In order to apply DSP algorithms to wireless communication systems high density Field Programmable Gate Arrays have recently emerged as ideal implementation platforms for digital filters due to its potential speed and flexibility. This paper presents the design and implementation of FIR filters using FPGA technology. The following architectures of filters are studied: multiply and accumulate (MAC) standard FIR filter, parallel transposed FIR filter, and direct-form filter using Distributed Arithmetic (DA). The proposed filters have been designed and synthesized with ISE software, and implemented with a Virtex-II FPGA device.

The aim of this study is to explain the implementation of ecotourism and the humanist (eco-humanist) perspective in the tourism space of Grand Maerakaca. This research has used qualitative methods to explore issues related to these concepts as implemented in Grand Maerakaca. Observations and interviews with tourists from various demographic segments were conducted to get information related to their ability to access ecotourism spaces. The results show that not all tourist providers in Grand Maerakaca implement the eco-humanist concept such as shown by the absence of local community participation and the empowerment of vulnerable groups. Besides, some tourist paths are inaccessible and dangerous for older tourists and children. Some of these are reasons why Grand Maerakaca is not attractive to tourists. The findings were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques to obtain a perspective related to ecohumanist implementation in Grand Maerakaca. The output of this research is to suggest forms of this implementation in tourist spaces in Grand Maerakaca that can accommodate all tourists and can increase tourist visits.

Immutability and the functional programming style demand an extensible and generic approach in the domain of semantic and structural equivalence testing. The lack of a library or a framework offering such functionality for Clojure programming language led to some design and implementation efforts that this article undertakes to describe. Incidentally it tries to gather and present a collection of most severe mistakes that may be made by a programmer that attempts to test objects of various kinds for their equivalence, both in Clojure and the underlying Java run-time with it's standard library, showing simple yet usable ways to avoid them.

We present a design of a Mobile Grid Resource Management System aimed at integrating mobile resources to an existing Grid infrastructure, while creating a platform for interoperability with telecommunications providers. In order to reduce the load on an existing infrastructure, we separate responsibilities and run additional features on mobile resources. Finally we present the Ikaros-EG implementation, IkarosM android application and the mobile-Grid concept.The system used for our implementation was the NCSR “Demokritos” ZEUS computer Cluster, where the Ikaros-EG framework consisting of a meta-data collector and the Ikaros-EG plug-in has been installed. The ZEUS cluster has local and Grid access to data and meta-data from numerous scientific experiments. Our objective was to incorporate the mobile resources using the NCSR Demokritos campus wireless infrastructure in order to run applications concerning accounting, statistics, or further data/meta-data formatting.

The following work gives the details of the modelling, simulation, and testing of a small portable gravitational water vortex (GWV) based power plant. The gravitation water vortex is an ideal source of renewable energy for rural areas that have a small body of flowing water. For this purpose, we have selected a small size for the vortex chamber that enables it to form a vortex with limited amounts of water. The paper gives the details of the simulation of the GWV in COMSOL FEA software and the parameters that were chosen for optimization. These parameters were the height of the vortex chamber, the number of blades, the length of the blades, and the tilt angle of the blades. These parameters were systematically varied step by step, to observe their effect on the speed of the rotor. The results of the parametric sweep that was performed on all the parameters are also presented. Based on the simulation results an optimal set of parameters was chosen for the physical implementation of the GWV. The paper also goes into the details of the construction of the physical GWV, the experimental setup that was devised for the testing and verification of the simulation results.

The development of increasingly intelligent and autonomous technologies will eventually lead to these systems having to face morally problematic situations. This is particularly true of artificial systems that are used in geriatric care environments. The goal of this article is to describe how one can approach the design of an elder care robot which is capable of moral decision-making and moral learning. A conceptual design for the development of such a system is provided and the steps that are necessary to implement it are described.

Cardiac monitoring in the environment of the subject is one of the major fields of telemedicine. In this paper we present a prototype of embedded system for acquisition, storage, display on LCD or PC and transfer via GSM alarm warning in case of arrhythmias, which allows a great opportunity for rapid intervention of the physician. In terms of hardware, we have designed and implemented our system with a modular approach to facilitate development and debugging. Thus the system comprises three modules: analog module, digital module microcontroller-based for certain pretreatment, and a GSM communication module. Of course, there is appropriate software behind the material described. The system has the following features: low cost, ease to implement and versatility.

In this paper the design and implementation of a plug-and-play analog resistance temperature sensor is presented. The smart temperature sensor consists of an analog sensor element with transducer electronic data sheet (TEDS) memory device and a network- capable application processor (NCAP) connected through a mixed-mode interface (MMI). The mixed-mode interface and NCAP front-end electronic support have been implemented by the use of a standard 8-bit microcontroller. NCAP’s application processing and network communication functions are implemented based on the concept of virtual instrumentation using a PC. The implemented NCAP can also be used as a plug-and-play stand-alone data acquisition system or as development system for plug-and-play sensors compliant with the IEEE 1451.4 standard. Details of sensor implementation and test results are included in the paper.

W artykule zwrócono szczególną uwagę na konieczność tworzenia innowacji w gospodarce (w oparciu o analizę wskaźników innowacyjności odnoszących się do Polski). Opisano proces projektowania i wdrażania innowacyjnych rozwiązań z zastosowaniem metod wspierających twórcze rozwiązywanie problemów (inwentycznych) i metod zarządzania projektami. Przedstawiono zbieżność tematyki zarządzania innowacjami i zarządzania projektami. Wykorzystując ową relację przedstawiono model organizacji ukierunkowanej na innowację (wdrażanie projektów innowacyjnych).
The article indicates the need to create innovation in the economy (based on the indicators of Poland's innovativeness). Described the process of designing and implementing innovative solutions with using creative problem solving methods (inventic methods) and project management methods. Showed the similarity of innovation management and project management. Using this relationship, presented a model of an innovation-oriented organizationhe article indicates the need to create innovation in the economy.

In this work, we present an improved sliding mode control (ISMC) technique designed and implemented for control of 6R manipulator. Sliding mode control (SMC) is a well-known nonlinear robust method for controlling systems in the presence of uncertainties and disturbances and systems with complex dynamics as in manipulators. Despite this good property, it is difficult to implement this method for the manipulator with a complex structure and more than three degree-of-freedom because of the complicated and massive equation and chattering phenomenon as a property of SMC in control inputs. Here, the chattering phenomenon is eliminated by using an effective algorithm called ISMC and implemented to 6R manipulator by using a low-cost control board based on an ARM microcontroller with high accuracy and memory. The carrying load is considered as the uncertainty for the manipulator, while the dynamic load carrying capacity (DLCC) is considered as a robot performance criterion showing robustness of the controller. The results of simulations and experiments show that the proposed approach has a good performance and is suitable and practical to be applied for manipulators.
