Opis:
The web-tapered I-columns have the capacity to resist the flexural buckling and lateral torsional buckling at a particular location where as in the rest of the member the capacity is lower. There needs a focusing on the nonprismatic members, to find the buckling capacity and standard procedures are to be framed in Indian Code IS 800:2007. This exploratory research explores simulated finite element models covering a total of 60 web tapered column sections having taper ratios (h2/h1) from 1.0 to 3.0 using FEA software ANSYS17.2. With an elaborate Eigenvalue buckling analysis, this research has come up with newer design equation for calculating the buckling load of web tapered I columns. This novel equation could predict the buckling stress for any taper ratio of web tapered I column of any length.

Opis:
In this work, a design equation was presented for a batch-recirculated photoreactor composed of a packed bed reactor (PBR) with immobilised TiO2-P25 nanoparticle thin films on glass beads, and a continuous-flow stirred tank (CFST). The photoreactor was studied in order to remove C.I. Acid Orange 7 (AO7), a monoazo anionic dye from textile industry, by means of UV/TiO2 process. The effect of different operational parameters such as the initial concentration of contaminant, the volume of solution in CFST, the volumetric flow rate of liquid, and the power of light source in the removal efficiency were examined. A rate equation for the removal of AO7 is obtained by mathematical kinetic modelling. The results of reaction kinetic analysis indicate the conformity of removal kinetics with Langmuir-Hinshelwood model (kL-H = 0.74 mg L-1 min-1, Kads = 0.081 mg-1 L). The represented design equation obtained from mathematical kinetic modelling can properly predict the removal rate constant of the contaminant under different operational conditions (R2 = 0.963). Thus the calculated and experimental results are in good agreement with each other.

Opis:
A new method of pivoting applicable to banded unsymmetric linear equation systems has been introduced. It limits the fill--in, preserves basic band structure and makes full use of allocated memory. Two new features of this method include multiple pivoting and the threshold factor use for pivoting decision. The stability or rather the solution precision has been investigated basing on the examples of classic ill conditioned equation system (Hilbert) and quasi--random system with still more difficult conditioning characteristic. Comprehensive test results have been presented in the easily readable graphic form. They prove the overall efficiency of new solvers and compare them favourably with the software from CLAPACK library.
Przedstawiono nową metodę wyboru elementów głównych użyteczną w przypadku pasmowych niesymetrycznych układów równań liniowych. Metoda ta ogranicza wypełnianie, zachowuje podstawową strukturę pasmową i w pełni wykorzustuje zaalokowaną pamięć. Dwie nowe właściwości tej metody to wielokrotne wybieranie elementów głównych oraz stosowanie współczynników progowych przy podejmowaniu decyzji o wyborze elementów głównych. Stabilność, a właściwie dokładność rozwiązań zbadano w oparciu o przykład klasycznego źle uwarunkowanego układu równań (Hilbert) i pseudo--przypadkowego układu, jeszcze gorzej uwarunkowanego. Rezultaty ekstensywnych testów przedstawiono w dobrze czytelnej postaci graficznej. Potwierdzają one efektywność nowego oprogramowania, zwłaszcza w porównaniu z oprogramowaniem z biblioteki CLAPACK.

Opis:
One-dimensional, non-isothermal flow of gas in a straight pipe has been considered to predict pressure and temperature profiles along the horizontal pipeline under steady-state conditions. Selected analytical models for the simplified calculation of these profiles are evaluated on the basis of the numerical solution of the accurate model, which incorporates the convective term in the momentum equation and the kinetic energy term in the energy equation, while treating the enthalpy as a function of pressure and temperature. For closure of the system of the conservation equations, the GERG 2004 equation of state was chosen. In order to present the discrepancies introduced by the models, the results of the numerical and analytical solutions are compared with the field data. The results show that in the case of the high pressure gas transmission system, the effects of the convective term in the momentum equation and the kinetic energy term in the energy equation are negligible for pipeline pressure and temperature calculation accuracies. It also indicates that real gas effects play an important role in the temperature distribution along the pipeline and cannot be neglected from the calculation when approximate analytical equations are used.
W artykule analizowano jednowymiarowy, nieizotermiczny przepływ gazu w stanie ustalonym w celu określenia zmian ciśnienia i temperatury w poziomym gazociągu.

The optimal use of energy resources is the central dogma for green technology and bio-optics. Reflectors provide a simple and fundamental structure for energy transport from a light emitting diode (LED) chip, and an appropriately designed reflector can reduce the fabrication cost of secondary optics for the LED. This paper demonstrates the role of three proposed reflector geometric factors in the two performance metrics – uniformity and collected energy (power), for designing LED reflectors. Through canonical factor analysis, a linear structure equation for LED reflector is suggested, and the methodology for designing the optimal shape is discussed. In addition, a generalized factor and a synthesis response are proposed for a more comprehensive investigation of optical performance. Results indicate a key parameter for balancing the optical performance, and the effects of various parameters and the trade-offs are revealed.

We consider a linear damped wave equation defined on a two-dimensional domain [...], with a dissipative term localized in a subset [...]. We address the shape design problem which consists in optimizing the shape of [...] in order to minimize the energy of the system at a given time T. By introducing an adjoint problem, we first obtain explicitly the (shape) derivative of the energy at time T with respect to the variation in [...]. Expressed as a boundary integral on [...], this derivative is then used as an advection velocity in a Hamilton-Jacobi equation for shape changes. We use the level-set methodology on a fixed working Eulerian mesh as well as the notion of the topological derivative. We also consider optimization with respect to the value of the damping parameter. The numerical approximation is presented in detail and several numerical experiments are performed which relate the over-damping phenomenon to the well-posedness of the problem.

A special description of the boundary variation in a shape optimization problem is investigated. Therefore, standard differential calculus can be applied in order to prove the Frechet-differentiability of the cost function for appropriately chosen data (sufficiently smooth). Moreover, necessary optimality conditions are obtained in a similar way as in other approaches, and are expressed in terms of an adjoint state for more regular data.

This paper develops a mathematical framework for the infinite-dimensional Sylvester equation both in the differential and the algebraic form. It uses the implemented semigroup concept as the main mathematical tool. This concept may be found in the literature on evolution equations occurring in mathematics and physics and is rather unknown in systems and control theories. But it is just systems and control theory where Sylvester equations widely appear, and for this reason we intend to give a mathematically rigorous introduction to the subject which is tailored to researchers and postgraduate students working on systems and control. This goal motivates the assumptions under which the results are developed. As an important example of applications we study the problem of designing an asymptotic state observer for a linear infinite dimensional control system with a bounded input operator and an unbounded output operator.

In this article, the authors present a design methodology for generating a spatially tailored fragment beam with specified velocity and projection angles. The modified Gurney equation was used to estimate the length and diameter of the cylindrical charge to achieve the desired velocity; and the modified Taylor equation was used to arrive at the radius of curvature of the fragmenting disc. The methodology is further explained for generating a rectangular beam of fragments having a velocity of 1500 m/s with a tailored fragment beam of 32° in the azimuth and 20° in the elevation. The warhead had preformed steel fragments of 4 mm diameter arranged in a double layer. The design was validated using the fragment distribution measured experimentally.

Opis:
A high percentage of analogue integrated circuit designs use voltage domain signal processing techniques. Given the fact that integrated circuit current conveyors are high bandwidth current processing devices, often with superior RF performance compared to comparable voltage domain devices, it is surprising that the number of current mode integrated circuits available, as standard of-the-shelf industrial items, is so small. This paper introduces equation-defined device and Verilog-A synthesis approaches to the macromodelling of current conveyor integrated circuits. To illustrate the proposed modelling techniques the properties of a number of modular behavioural level current conveyor macromodel cells are described and their performance compared. The material presented is intended for analogue device modellers and circuit designers who wish to simulate large signal current domain integrated circuit designs. It also demonstrates how synthesized Verilog-A modules can be derived from equation-defined device and conventional subcircuits to form functional, computationally efficient current conveyor macromodels. To illustrate the application of behavioural current conveyor macromodels the design of a six cell CCII+ instrumentation amplifier is introduced and its performance discussed.

A method for reducing controllers for systems described by partial differential equations (PDEs) is applied to Burgers' equation with periodic boundary conditions. This approach differs from the typical approach of reducing the model and then designing the controller, and has developed over the past several years into its current form. In earlier work it was shown that functional gains for the feedback control law served well as a dataset for reduced order basis generation via the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). However, the test problem was the two-dimensional heat equation, a problem in which the physics dominates the system in such a way that controller efficacy is difficult to generalize. Here, we additionally incorporate a nonlinear observer by including the nonlinear terms of the state equation in the differential equation for the compensator.

For a shape optimization problem second derivatives are investigated, obtained by a special approach for the description of the boundary variation and the use of a potential ansatz for the state. The natural embedding of the problem in a Banach space allows the application of a standard differential calculus in order to get second derivatives by a straight forward "repetition of differentiation". Moreover, by using boundary value characerizations for more regular data, a complete boundary integral representation of the second derivative of the objective is possible. Basing on this, one easily obtains that the second derivative contains only normal components for stationary domains, i.e. for domains, satisfying the first order necessary condition for a free optimum. Moreover, the nature of the second derivative is discussed, which is helpful for the investigation of sufficient optimality conditions.

A kind of generalized proportional-integral (GPI) observer for descriptor linear systems is introduced. We first propose two complete parametric solutions to generalized Sylvester matrix equation corresponding to the left eigenvector matrices in the case of Jordan form. Then a parametric design approach for the observer is presented. The proposed method provides all parametric expression of the gain matrices and the corresponding finite left eigenvector matrix and guarantees the regularity and impulse-freeness of the expanded error system. Two numerical examples are given to explain the design procedure and illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
