The main purpose of this article is to deal with the situation and implementation of Industry 4.0. The first part of the article is informative - it guides the reader with the evolution of industry (first - fourth industrial revolutions). The following part deals directly with Industry 4.0 and its characteristics. This concept focuses on digitization of all physical assets and integration into the digital ecosystem, including business partners within the value chain. Also, “pillars” on which Industry 4.0 relies, are presented here. The next part deals with Industry 4.0 initiative implementation. Eight crucial issues were selected here. The final part of the article proposes some solutions and suggestions for future implementation.

New EU rules on statutory audit reform were adopted by the Council of the EU in April 2014. The changes affect all areas of audit regulation, including market competition, auditor oversight, audit quality and application of standards, audit reporting, corporate governance related to auditors, auditor selection and auditor independence. The purpose of this study is to examine the current state and expected changes in the Latvian audit market within the context of EU audit reform. The research methods are respectively systematic, logical and comparative analysis, analysis of secondary data, as well as expert methods. The principal results of the study provide evidence of the high level of market concentration of Latvia’s audit firms/networks, the dominant share of non-audit revenue in total revenue for the four biggest players on the market, the auditing oligopoly in the PIE market, the impact of EU audit reform on auditor-client relationships, and the activities of audit committees in the banking sector. The results of the study indicate that Latvia’s audit firms are not fully transparent. Based on the findings and results of the study, the author proposes a set of recommendations aimed at making the Latvian audit market more transparent and less concentrated.

Introduction and objective. Paediatric chronic rhinosinusitis (PCRS) is a common disease in children. It is defined as an ongoing inflammation of the nasal cavity and sinuses lasting for over 12 weeks. Due to prevalence in the population, PCRS is associated with a high healthcare and financial burden. During the examination, attention should be paid to symptoms that may suggest chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), because it may be underdiagnosed. Due to the chronicity of the inflammatory process and the similarity of symptoms to allergic rhinitis and adenoid hypertrophy, diagnosis and treatment are difficult. In this review, guidelines from The European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps (EPOS) 2020 and recent literature reports from Medline and Scopus database are analysed. Materials and methods. Information was obtained through a review and analysis of the PubMed Medline and Scopus databases. Brief description of the state of knowledge. Diagnostic difficulties with CRS can be caused by many factors. The EPOS guidelines recommend flexible or rigid nasal endoscopy as a preliminary objective method to assist in the recognition of CRS. Computed tomography (CT) is not recommended for routine management; therefore, CT is the gold standard for imaging when establishing a PCRS diagnosis or preparing for sinus surgery. The use of conventional X-ray imaging for chronic rhinosinusitis is limited and not recommended. Conclusions. Understanding the symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis is of utmost importance in daily practice. Early initial assessment of symptoms in children with a high probability of CRS allows for early diagnosis and reduces the need for endoscopic and imaging examination.

The microbial contamination of water miscible metalworking fl uids (MWFs) is a serious problem in metal industry. A good maintenance of MWF re-circulation systems can extend the lifetime of coolants and ensure the quality of the tools produced. In MWFs, as in the other water-based environments, microorganisms usually live in the form of biofi lms, the communities of bacteria and fungi attached to the surface of sumps, metal parts and also to each other. Biofi lms exhibit very high resistance to biocides. The effect of biocides that are used as additives to MWFs to control the growth of the bacterial and fungal microbiomes (microorganisms characteristic to the individual coolant system) have become the subject of research only in recent years. There are also only sparse reports on the impact of biocides on microorganisms growing in biofi lms in MWF installations. Fast growing mycobacteria are important members of these biofi lm communities. Their presence has recently been linked with the occurrence of cases of hypersensitivity pneumonitis, a serious respiratory disorder in the metal industry employees. The new, relatively fast and inexpensive techniques to assess the species diversity within MWF microbiomes and their population size should be developed in order to control the microorganisms’ proliferation in MWFs and to diminish the occupational exposure to harmful bioaerosols in metal industry.

The aim of the article is to identify research areas that are relevant from the perspective of management in the field of cross-border tourism. The analysis is based on bibliometric information included in the Web of Science and Scopus database. The main task of the analysis is to identify current problems in the field of cross-border tourism management, taking into account regional characteristics as well as forms and content of tourism services. The authors use bibliometric analysis supported by the VOSviewer software. In addition, the case study method is used to identify the most common features and tendencies in the study of cross-border tourism management. A review of the literature in the field shows that the management of tourism services in border regions is currently a new branch of management sciences, which has seen a dynamic growth as evidenced by the number of studies published since the middle of the first decade of the 21st century. Most of them analyse problems of cross-border tourism management in Europe, in the border regions of Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain and Portugal. The objectives of cross-border tourism management in this region are the background for sustainable development, harmonization of relationships at the regional level, concern for the state of the environment. One of the urgent problems is the management of health-related or medical cross-border tourism. A number of issues require more in-depth research, such as the management of transnational tourism services and products at the borders of the EU; European and world trends in the development of the tourism services market in the border regions; and the impact of cross-border tourism on local communities. The article’s contribution consists in providing a list of current problems in the study of cross-border tourism management and identifying research gaps in this field.
