Opis:
This study performed a numerical investigation of the Soret and Dufour effects on unsteady free convective chemically reacting nanofluid flowing past a vertically moving porous plate in the presence of viscous dissipation and a heat source/sink. The equations direct-ing the flow are non-dimensionalised, modified to ordinary differential equations and emerging equations are resolved computationally by using the bvp4c function in MATLAB software. The results obtained from this analysis indicate that the resulting velocity of the nanofluid increases with increasing Grashof number, mass Grashof number and porosity parameter. An increase in the Dufour number increases the fluid temperature, whereas the concentration profile declines with the increase in the Schmidt number. It is also observed that the skin fric-tion coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number increase with increasing magnetic field parameter, Eckert number and Schmidt number, respectively. The present study reveals the impact of Soret and Dufour effects on heat and mass transfer rates in chemically re-acting and viscous dissipating nanofluids.

This article describes the influence of an inclined magnetic field on the mixed convective peristaltic transport of fluid in an inclined channel. Two types of non-Newtonian fluids are considered. The problem formulation is presented for the Eyring-Prandtl and Sutterby fluids. Viscous dissipation and Joule heating in the heat transfer process are retained. The presence of a heat source in the energy equation is ensured. The resulting problems are solved by the perturbation method. The plots for different parameters of interest are given and discussed. Numerical values of a heat transfer rate are given and analyzed.

Opis:
In this paper, the analytical solution of natural convective heat transfer of a non-Newtonian fluid flow between two vertical infinite plates using the Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) and Daftardar-Gejiji & Jafari Method (DJM) is presented. The heat transfer problem of natural convection is observed in many engineering fields including geothermal systems, heat exchangers, petroleum reservoirs, nuclear waste reserves, etc. The problem which is modelled as fully coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations requires special analytical techniques for its solution. The solutions are obtained using an exact analytical method: the Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) and a semi-analytical method: the Daftardar-Gejiji & Jafari Method (DJM). These solutions are compared with solutions obtained from the Runge-Kutta numerical method. The results are in good agreement with the numerical solutions. The effects of the Eckert number, Prandtl number and the non-Newtonian fluid viscosity parameter on the non-dimensional temperature and velocity of the fluid are investigated. The results obtained from the analytical method show that the method can be applied to predict excellent results of the problem and can be used for parametric studies of the problem. From the results, it is shown that when the Prandtl number and the Eckert number are increased, there is an increase in both temperature and fluid flow velocity.

Realistic simulation of weather and climate parameters over West Africa is daunting, so the performance of the Tiedtke and Kain-Fritsch convection schemes within version 4.5 of the Regional Climate Model (RegCM4.5) of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste is evaluated over West Africa for improved simulation. The two schemes are compared to two traditional mixture schemes (Grell on land and Emanuel on Ocean), outperforming the mixture schemes with reduced magnitude and spatial coverage of dry bias. Both schemes simulate precipitation over West Africa with a low dry bias, however, the Kain-Fritsch convection scheme simulates more realistic precipitation in the West African convective environment. This is associated with the inclusion of a variable cloud radius and the convective available potential energy closure for the Kain-Fritsch in contrast to a fixed cloud radius and moisture convergence of the of the Tiedtke scheme. The simulated outgoing longwave radiation and omega lend support to the spatial variations and amount of simulated precipitation in the different areas by the schemes. The spatial variation of simulated temperature over the target region shows lower bias than precipitation by all the convection schemes. Soil moisture is more accurately simulated (correlation coefficient ~1) in the savannah (8-10°N) and Sahel (22-28°N) environments by all the convection schemes. Tiedtke performs the most accurate simulations of the pattern and profile of zonal wind which controls climate circulation, with slightly weaker simulations of the Africa easterly jet with core magnitude less than 10 m·s-1. The accuracy of the KF and Tiedtke in RegCM4.5 in simulating the climate of West Africa is documented for the first time for application in future studies over the region.

In this paper, effect of Hall currents on the thermal instability of couple-stress fluid permeated with dust particles has been considered. Following the linearized stability theory and normal mode analysis, the dispersion relation is obtained. For the case of stationary convection, dust particles and Hall currents are found to have destabilizing effect while couple stresses have stabilizing effect on the system. Magnetic field induced by Hall currents has stabilizing/destabilizing effect under certain conditions. It is found that due to the presence of Hall currents (hence magnetic field), oscillatory modes are produced which were non-existent in their absence.

The free convection of the water and air over the globe induces evaporation of standing water and the generation of wind, respectively. The ratio of the corresponding heat transfer coefficients is shown to be equal to the ratio of solar power going into evaporation/precipitation and into wind generation. The present work provides a justification for the estimate on wind power reported by M. King Hubbert and also that wind generation on a global scale is about two-order magnitudes less than the solar power responsible for rainfall. This paper resolves the existing ambiguity in the estimates of wind power over the globe.

Opis:
The problem of mixed convection flow of a heat generating/absorbing fluid in the presence existence of Lorentz forces in a vertical micro circular subjected to a periodic sinusoidal temperature change at the surface has been studied taking the first-order slip and jump effects into consideration. The research analysis is carried out by considering a fully developed parallel flow and steady periodic regime. The governing equations, together with the constraint equations which arise from the definition of mean velocity and temperature, are written in a dimensionless form and mapped into equations in the complex domain. One obtains two independent boundary value problems, which provide the mean value and the oscillating term of the velocity and temperature distributions. These boundary value problems are solved analytically. A parametric study of some of the physical parameters involved in the problem is conducted. The results of this research revealed that the magnetic field has a damping impact on the flow and results in decreases in fluid velocity for both air and water. Furthermore, the presence of the heat generation parameter is seen to enhance the temperature distribution and this is reflected as an increase in the magnitude of the oscillation dimensionless velocity, whereas in the presence of heat absorption a reversed trend occurs.

Opis:
This article theoretically investigated mixed convection flow of heat generating/absorbing fluid in the presence of viscous dissipation and wall conduction effects. The flow is considered to be steady in a vertical channel with some boundary thickness. One of the plates is heated while the other is kept at ambient temperature. The governing flow equations were solved analytically using Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM). The influences of the governing parameters were captured in graphs, tables and a table was constructed for validation of the work. It is worthwhile to stress that, both the velocity and temperature profiles decrease near the heated plate with an increase in boundary thickness (d) while the reverse cases were observed toward the cold plate. The velocity profile increases near the heated plate with increase in mixed convection parameter (Gre) and decreases towards the cold plate. Rate of heat transfer has been observed to decrease with increase in boundary plate thickness (d) while the critical value of (Gre) increases with growing boundary plate thickness. The study therefore established the importance of boundary plate thickness in mixed convection investigation.

In the present work, the effect of various dimensionless parameters on the momentum, thermal and concentration boundary layer are analyzed. In this respect we have considered the MHD boundary layer flow of heat and transfer over a porous wedge surface in a nanofluid. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by using the similarity transformation. These ordinary differential equations are numerically solved using fourth order Runge–Kutta method along with shooting technique. The present results have been shown in a graphical and also in tabular form. The results indicate that the momentum boundary layer thickness reduces with increasing values of the pressure gradient parameter β for different situations and also for the magnetic parameter M but increases for the velocity ratio parameter λ and permeability parameter K*. The heat transfer rate increases for the pressure gradient parameter β, velocity ratio parameter λ, Brownian motion parameter Nb and Prandtl number Pr but opposite result is found for the increasing values of the thermoporesis parameter Nt. The nanoparticle concentration rate increases with an increase in the pressure gradient parameter β, velocity ratio parameter λ, Brownian motion parameter Nb and Lewis number Le, but decreases for the thermoporesis parameter Nt. Finally, the numerical results has compared with previously published studies and found to be in good agreement. So the validity of our results is ensured.

The main focus of the present study is to utilize the artifi cial neural network (ANN) in predicting the natural convection from horizontal isothermal cylinders arranged in vertical and inclined arrays. The effects of the vertical separation spacing to the cylinder diameter ratio (Py/d), horizontal separation spacing to the cylinder diameter ratio (Px/d) and Rayleigh number (Ra) variation on the average heat transfer from the arrays are considered via this prediction. The training data for optimizing the ANN structure is based on available experimental data. The Levenberg-Marquardt back propagation algorithm is used for ANN training. The proposed ANN is developed using MATLAB functions. For the best ANN structure obtained in this investigation, the mean relative errors of 0.027% and 0.482% were reached for the training and test data, respectively. The results show that the predicted values are very close to the experimental ones.
