Artykuł ukazuje system wychowawczy jednego z wybitnych polskich myślicieli i działaczy społeczno-patriotycznych XIX wieku – Edmunda Bojanowskiego, którego myśl pedagogiczna również dzisiaj nie przestaje fascynować wielu pedagogów, czyniąc z nich „artystów” w dziedzinie wychowania. Tekst wskazuje na oryginalność systemu wychowania przedszkolnego Bojanowskiego, który w swych podstawowych założeniach odwołuje się do natury, historii i religii, proponując wychowanie o charakterze integralnym i realizowane w duchu rodzinnym. Autor zwraca również uwagę na potrzebę upowszechnienia i wykorzystania propozycji wychowawczej Bojanowskiego we współczesnej edukacji, gdzie stanowić może ona niezwykle cenne „narzędzie” w procesie kształtowania u dzieci osobowości harmonijnych i odpowiedzialnych.
The article shows the educational system of one of the eminent Polish thinkers and social-patriotic activists – Edmund Bojanowski, whose pedagogical thought continues to fascinate many educators today, making them “artists” in the field of education. The text points to the originality of the Bojanowski pre-school education system, which in its basic premise refers to nature, history and religion, offering an integral and family-oriented education. The author also points to the need to popularize and use Bojanowski's educational proposal in modern education, where it can be an extremely valuable "tool" in the process of developing harmonious and responsible children.

Substantial changes underwent by Polish society during the last eighteen years have posed important challenges for the national system of education. Although numerous attempts have been taken to adjust it to the contemporary social, political, cultural, and economic changes, including massive systemic reform introduced in 2000, a huge discrepancy between the kind of support students receive in schools and the necessities they have to meet outside the educational system is still clearly visible. Three basic challenges: globalization, democratization, and civil society building will be discussed in relationship to educational management as main factors for educational success.

The article depicts John Amos Comenius’ selected ideas and their reference to the contemporary times. It is mainly based on his two major works: Great Didactics and Pampaedia, my own research papers and other available ones, as well as on some research conducted by education science students for their MA theses concerning John Amos Comenius’ teacher in reference to the modern teacher2. It focuses on Comenius’ idea of permanent education, which refers to contemporary education3. Nowadays permanent education is a key educational challenge in Poland, Europe and all over the world. The article is an attempt to define comeniology as an emerging scientific discipline and specify the areas and ranges of comeniological research, mentioning its authors and describing their output published in “Siedlce Comeniological Research Bulletin. pedagogy series”. I prove the evolutional character of comeniological research. The article also mentions my education science students’ interest in Comenius and their activity including the research conducted for their MA theses about Comenius, presentations and written texts intended to be published in “Siedlce Comeniological Research Bulletin, pedagogy series”.

The book addresses contemporary ideological discourses concerning education in the United Kingdom. It provides a synthetic analysis of the roots of the political changes in education in the UK from the tenth to the first decade of the twenty-first century, with particular emphasis on the last hundred years. It presents British political and education thought during the tenth through the sixteenth centuries, then in the Age of Enlightenment, showing the roles of the positivist current in British education, the Chartist movement, and educational changes related to them. The remainder of the book focuses on the trends and stages of educational development up to World War II, the postwar reform of the education system in England and Wales, the neoliberal trend in the educational policy of Britain, and the genesis of the 1998 educational reforms in England and Wales and their consequences up to 2013.

The closer we get to our times, the more often school reforms take place in different countries. They are an attempt to respond to deep social changes. However, in most cases, these reforms are not veryeffective. The author gives examples of failed Polish educational reforms of the last half-century. It is noted that there was a large gap between the façade proclamations of the benefits that the announcedreforms were supposed to bring and their real effects. Therefore, the author puts forward a thesis that too often reformers play a confidence game and in fact the announced change in education means nochange in practice. Meanwhile, real, profound school reforms are essential, as society and the economy will increasingly need graduates educated to meet the needs of the 21 st century. They are supposed to be people who think critically, are creative, have high communication skills, and are focused on cooperation with others. For the preparation of such graduates to be possible, there needs to be a radical change in the concept of the school and in the way teachers work.

Tematem niniejszego artykułu są ideały wychowawcze w przodujących państwach greckich - w Atenach, strażnicy cywilizowanego świata, z demokratycznym ustrojem państwa, który przetrwał aż do XXI wieku n.e., a także w Sparcie, kolebce najlepszych wojowników. Na tym tle nakreślono współczesny ideał wychowania. Podejmując temat, przedstawiono istotę wychowania dwóch głównych ośrodków starożytnej Grecji, których charakter narodowy i wychowanie mają swoje odrębne właściwości. Mimo że cywilizacja starożytna przepadła, nie był to jednak całkowity upadek, gdyż pozostała ona podstawą mentalności następnych pokoleń, była wciąż żywa w ich świadomości. Nawet ustrój niewolniczy w świecie antycznym nie był przeszkodą w zakresie osiągania celów wychowania, bowiem pedagogika starożytna sformułowała ideał człowieka o wszechstronnie rozwiniętej osobowości. To starożytność stworzyła szkołę, dzisiejszą placówkę dydaktyczno-wychowawczą. Także dom rodzinny wpływał na kształtowanie charakteru młodych ludzi, co miało istotne znaczenie dawniej i ma obecnie. Nie bez znaczenia były również warunki społeczne, polityczne czy kulturalne, które wpływały na kształtowanie osobowości młodzieży, na stan edukacji oraz na poglądy młodych ludzi o roli, jaką mają pełnić w społeczeństwie.
The paper deals with the ideals of education characteristic of the leading ancient Greek states - Athens, the guardians of the civilized world, with its democratic political system, which has survived until the present day and Sparta, the state which delivered the best warriors ever. Against this background the ideal of modern education is presented. Exploring this topic, the essence of education characteristic of the centers of the ancient Greece mentioned is presented with regard to national and educational differences between them. Although, the ancient civilization declined long ago, its heritage has not disappeared totally. It still remains present as the cultural foundation of all up to day generations. Even the slave system of antiquity was not an obstacle for achieving the educational goals, for ancient pedagogy defined the ideal of man with a comprehensively developed personality. It is antiquity that established and developed the school as we know it today, as a place of didactics and upbringing. The family home played important role in forming personalities of youths and it continues to be equally true for the present time generation. The significance of the social, political and cultural conditions, which influenced the process of personality forming, education and young peoples' views on their role in the society, can not be neglected.
